AWA Championship Wrestling
Monday, Week 4, April 1991
Memorial Hall @ Philadelphia, PA
Announcers - Rod Trongard and Frank Reed
Attendance - 3,500 *SOLD OUT*
Rating - 0.25
SEGMENT 1 - We remember that the Cage of Hellhole teams will be determined by the draw drawn by Frank Reed himself, after the last two players to be determined tonight. Trongard asks about surprises. Reed, on the other hand, couldn't stand it, explaining that he signed with new wrestlers. He wanted to strengthen the roster that was lacking after the young names went to SEWA.
SEGMENT 2 - Before the next game, Jim Cornette and Sid make a statement. Normally this match should have been a Cage of Hellhole Participation match, which was arranged for Brian Pillman. But Pillman chose to challenge Sid instead. Cornette finds this very poetic. He says that Pillman can take part in the match without going to an participation match, and that he can deal with it with his connections. However, there was only one condition; If he can beat Sid. If Sid loses, he won't be in the match either.
SEGMENT 3 - Brian Pillman drew with Sid (w/Jim Cornette) in 8:56 following a double count out - The fight, which lasted outside the ring, is getting longer than expected with the participation of Youthquake Combat Class members coming from behind the stage and both names are tied with a double count out because they can't return to the ring in time. Thus, it is expected that Frank Reed's decision on participation in the Cage of Hellhole match will be made.
SEGMENT 4 - Cage of Hellhole Participation Match | The Wendigo def. Sabu in 5:22 by pinfall - One of the first surprises Reed mentions is The Wendigo. A scary masked figure with horns walks slowly into the ring. The announcers say that he was possessed by the devil. Reed signed a contract with him under very difficult circumstances. It was signed with the participation and help of priests from many churches. “I honestly don't know if I did the right thing in bringing someone like that into the company,” Reed says. Wendigo participates in the Cage of Hellhole match by defeating Sabu in their debut match.
SEGMENT 5 - After the commercial break, Nick Bockwinkel and Frank Reed will be on a special platform for the draw. Reed says that Pillman and Sid will participate in this match at first. He found their match tonight so absurd and would therefore consider it not to have happened. Despite this nonsense, he included Pillman directly in the game. Anyway, lots are drawn and teams are determined as follows: Team Red (Jerry Lawler, Tom Zenk, Razor, Saniko and The Wendigo) vs. Team Blue (Brian Pillman, Butch Reed, Sid, Tully Blanchard and Owen Hart). The rules are reminded again; To win, each member of the opposing team has to be thrown into the deep pit in the middle of the two rings. Five members of the winning team will qualify for a match of six against the AWA World Heavyweight champion at the PPV show at WrestleRock in May.
SEGMENT 6 - Jerry Lawler def. Don Muraco in 8:10 by pinfall - With Muraco distracted by Kevin Von Erich and Miss Elizabeth, who came out of the ring, Lawler gets an easy win with the Diving Fist Drop.
