I'm sensing an upset in the first round with The Freebirds (or The Von Erichs) failing to advance, but who knows? The Fantastics or even Adams and Rich also have a chance to win this one.
Jimmy Garvin will join The Freebirds, just like in real life, and I'm liking it!

June 12th - 18th 1983
- With Jim Cornette leaving me for CWA, I have just signed MSW's announcer Jim Ross! Ross will be my A announcer along with Bill Mercer and Gary Hart will give me some good colour too when needed. This can leave me with the freedom of using Hart as a matchmaker for now and an agent too, without having him commentating all the shows too
- MSW is investing some money anyway, as they signed both Dutch Mantell and Ric Flair to a handshake deal. I thought about offering Naitch an exclusive contract, but it would cost me a ridiculous amount of money and Flair wouldn't drop his MACW and AJPW bookings so easily. I hope I can still work with Flair, as I have been building him vs. Funk for 6 months now
- The other big news of the week is the argument between Bobby Fulton and Kevin von Erich, who have publicly insulted each other on the local press. My backstage morale has been absolutely great lately and I hope this won't ruin it. Both workers have been professional ever since and I hope they keep it this way
- I have also hired more wrestlers for Central States: Tom Prichard, Hector Guerrero, Steve Williams and Bret Hart. Prichard is a local worker with some good skills. Hector belongs to the famous Guerrero family and, as my roster is currently too loaded, he can do well there for a bit. Williams has just joined the business and he's still green and not popular, but he showed great potential, MSW wasn't happy about letting him go. Hart has been wrestling in his dad's territory for a bit and Stu is well respected, I only offered him a handshake deal so far so he can keep his bookings in Stampede as well
- Dallas can now sit 9100 people after last week's sell out!
- SWCW was all over the news this week, but for bad reasons: the banks gave them 3 months to pay back their $2 millions debt or they might be forced to close down
- Also, WWF tried to discredit GCW but the media caught them and Vince McMahon's company didn't look too good
World Class Championship Wrestling TV 18.06.1983 Dallas, TX Attendance: 9091 TV rating: 0.47 Show: 77
The Fantastics, Great Kabuki & Magic Dragon (w/ Armand Hussain) def. Tommy Rich, Chris Adams, Mr. X & José Lothario in 8:09 when Kabuki pins X by cheating (66)
Postmatch X doesn't seem happy about Lothario's support, while Marc Lowrance interviews Hussein, Kabuki and Dragon. Hussein hypes his guys, saying they won tag gold before and will do it again (52)
Bobby Eaton def. Brian Adias (w/ Ricky Morton) in 9:06 (62)
On stage Marc Lowrance interviews Jimmy Garvin, who gets immediately approached by The Freebirds and asked to walk out on Terry Taylor at Star Wars. Hayes says that they will reward Garvin, who seems interested (65)
Terry Funk def. Checkmate in 6:46 (70)
Postmatch Funk calls Ted DiBiase out, saying that DiBiase likes to talk sh!t when he's in Japan, but he's here tonight! DiBiase approaches the ring, but then decides to walk away and threatens Funk, saying that he's now in his head! (80)
WCCW American Heavyweight Title: Kevin von Erich (c) def. Dick Murdoch by DQ in 12:04 when Freebirds get too close to the ring and the referee calls for the bell (80)
Postmatch Kerry and David join Kevin and the von Erichs are circled by Freebirds, King Kong Bundy and Samu outside the ring! Security is struggling to restrain everybody, especially a wild Bundy, while the brothers want to fight! (83)
Show notes
- I don't know how, but I topped myself again! Best attendance, best match, best show rating and best TV rating of the year!
- The crowd, as usual, was really into the Freebirds/vonErichs interactions, but the main event was absolutely great too. Dick Murdoch is really over, seemed great to work with and his debut popped a great rating. I'm sure I will call him back...
- DiBiase came up with a new catchphrase and cut a great promo on Funk. Merchandising staff told me that this will sell a lot of shirts too... nice, as DiBiase had good momentum already! Funk seems in shape and just had a little masterpiece against Checkmate too
- The 4 vs. 4 was just a quick way to get all the feuds in and the quarterfinal matches... but it worked really well and X found great chemistry against Kabuki, which I might use soon. Lothario was the weak link of the match, even though I told the agents to limit his involvement
- Garvin keeps performing really well when he's with the Freebirds. Their angle is based on the fact that Garvin wants the Tag Titles, they mean good money, even though his partner is Terry Taylor

WCCW TAG STAR WARS 19.06.1983 Corpus Christy, TX Attendance: 34640 TV rating: 0.12 Show rating: 80
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAL DAVID VON ERICH & KERRY VON ERICH vs. KING KONG BUNDY & SAMU (w/ Skandor Akbar) The history between Bundy and the von Erichs goes way back and Bundy tries to bully them throughout the match, still shouting outloud that people like Stan Hansen haven't beaten him all year. Samu is a good partner, but clearly the weak link and Bundy gets frustrated. Bundy tries to splash David, but he moves and Bundy splashes Samu instead! Kerry dropkicks Bundy and David pins Samu, so the von Erichs advance! (13:08) (68)
Taped Freebirds promo from outside of the arena. The Birds are determined to get the Tag Titles tonight, plus Michael Hayes will get a step closer to the American Heavyweight Title! (68)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAL JIMMY GARVIN & TERRY TAYLOR vs. BUDDY ROBERTS & TERRY GORDY The announcers notice that both Sherri and Sunshine are not at ringside. Taylor and Garvin don't cooperate at all, but they are good enough to have a competitive match anyway. The Birds beat Taylor down and keep telling Garvin not to help him and to join them, but Garvin gets a hot tag by himself and keeps fighting. Taylor is injured, so Garvin is by himself and Gordy finishes him with the powerbomb! (67) (11:55)
Postmatch Garvin is mad at Taylor, who's still down for basically taking punishment for a lot of minutes while Garvin wasn't helping him! Sherri arrives to help Taylor, but Sunshine hits her from behind! Sunshine and Garvin leave together and upset for the loss (62)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAL THE FANTASTICS vs. JOSE' LOTHARIO & MR. X X and Lotherio seem in a decent mood and quite friendly here, despite their recent issues, which is good as the Fantastics are as cocky as good in the ring. X gets isolated and the heels work on him quite well, keeping Lothario's involvement really limited until the hot tag happens. X wants revenge and tries to punch Rogers, but the punches Lothario by mistake! The Fantastics hit the rocket launcher on Lothario for the pinfall, while X looks powerless from the apron! (8:46) (59)
On stage Marc Lowrance interviews the von Erichs. Kevin is happy about his brothers advancing in the first round and wants them to kick the Freebirds' butts, just like he will do in the main event! (74)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAL GREAT KABUKI & MAGIC DRAGON (w/ Armand Hussein) vs. CHRIS ADAMS & TOMMY RICH Adams and Rich are doing quite well for a new tag team, while Kabuki and Dragon have more experience and are also former All Asia Tag Champions. Checkmate also runs down to help his friends, but Iceman Parsons arrives to block his interference. Adams seems to have an arm injury, but he tags Rich and he clears the ring. Hussein's interference is also stopped and Rich DDTs Kabuki for the pinfall! (65) (11:03)
On stage Marc Lawrance interviews Ted DiBiase about the main event. DiBiase says that Ric Flair is too big for this show and he will beat Terry Funk by himself here and then at the next Star Wars! (75)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES TOURNAMENT SEMI FINAL DAVID VON ERICH & KERRY VON ERICH vs. TERRY GORDY & BUDDY ROBERTS The two teams attack each other even before the bell rings and, as the announcers remark, it is not too weird as they have been at war for the last 6 months! The match is chaotic and half of the times the fight is outside the ring, as the referee struggles to keep everything under control! Kerry and Roberts are punching at ringside despite not being the legal men and, when the referee tells them to stop it, they run him over too and so the match ends in a DQ! (80) (15:11)
Postmatch more referees and agents arrive to the ring to hold von Erichs and Birds apart! Birds are taken away from the ring, while the von Erichs still want to fight! Gary Hart seems furious and says that now the other semifinal becomes the final of the tournament! (81)
WCCW AMERICAN TAG TITLES TOURNAMENT FINAL THE FANTASTICS vs. CHRIS ADAMS & TOMMY RICH This was going to be a tense match regardless due to their current feud, but now the titles are also on the line and both teams seem more cautious than they would have been if this was just a tournament match. Adams' arm is still hurting from the previous match and so of course the Fantastics work on it as well, dominating the match for a long time. Rich gets the tag again, but this time his opponents are too smart to get beaten. Adams gets involved again and Rogers makes the mistake of mocking him with a slam, as Adams superkicks him right on the chin! 1, 2, 3! Adams and Rich are the new champions! (63) (12:15)
In ring Terry Funk cuts a promo on Ted DiBiase, saying that his continuous insults have now made this personal. He respects the von Erichs, even though he still wants a rematch from last January, and he doens't really like the Freebirds, but wants them out of his way tonight! (71)
KEVIN VON ERICH & TERRY FUNK vs. MICHAEL HAYES & TED DIBIASE The main event is here and, as predicted, Kevin/Hayes and DiBiase/Funk are the most common pairings due to the personal feuds and the skirmish for Independence Day Star Wars. Of course, Kevin/DiBiase and Funk/Hayes also happen and we get a wild and interesting brawl at times, followed by good matwork by the babyfaces. Kevin and Hayes both go down after a headbutt and so Funk and DiBiase get the hot tag! We get another big brawl and, while the referees stops Kevin, he doens't see that Hayes hands DiBiase his black glove. DiBiase punches Funk straight in the face and pins him! (81) (17:21)
Postmatch DiBiase and Hayes gets chased by Kevin and so leave the ring quickly. Kevin helps Funk getting up and the two shake hands, but seems ready for revenge! (80)
Show notes
- The momentum is doing wonders! This was a "transitional" Star Wars between two big shows and it still delivered by biggest crowd so far, the highest TV rating for a special and the biggest show rating too!
- The main event delivered big time. DiBiase is now chased by Funk, while Kevin and Hayes had no definitive finish to push the July title match even more. Chemistry was really good for all competitors. DiBiase is doing great with his catchphrase, while Funk was surprisingly asking for a script and didn't cut the best promo of his career
- I praised Kevin, DiBiase and Funk for their good performances
- I'm happy with tournament overall. The non finish between Birds and von Erichs was needed to keep the card tight and to build for a rematch at the next Star Wars. The crowd never gets enough of them!
- I was really torn between Adams/Rich and Fantastics for the final winner. It's 1-1 now in their feud and a rubber match will happen soon. Plus, I want both Adams and Rich to sign with me and this will hopefully help
- The final itself didn't deliver fully though, as it was a slower match to rest the crowd before the main event
- The tournament also helped the current storylines with some finishes: X and Lothario's crisis, Taylor and Garvin never getting along no matter what's at stake, Bundy still protected etc.
- Samu has been written out of TV after this match. More on him next week

Cool show! I hope it helped to sift out which tag teams work and which do not. Von Erich's versus The Freebirds, forever! I am very interested in the Funk/Dibiase feud and where that will take the two and its length. Adams & Rich seem like a great babyface team-up. I did want The Fantastics to win though. More please!

June 20th - 25th 1983
- The locker room morale is really high thanks to our momentum and performances!
- Not a lot of news this week, as I'm now focused on Independence Day Star Wars, which will take place at the end of the month due to conflicting schedule
- Chris Adams, new Tag Team champion, has signed with me for 2 years. Tommy Rich, however, still refused to sign due to his loyalty for GCW. I'm not really happy, but shall Rich leave me I will still have a month's notice so let's leave it like that for now
- Speaking of CWA, they are improving their production values and seems really serious about expanding their business
- Central States is doing decent business since I have been funding it. They only lost $3k this month, which for a tiny company with no TV deal is not that bad. I have sent Samu over there and he got quickly teamed up with Hector Guerrero
- I have signed another wrestler and he will debut at the next show!
- Young rookie Shane Douglas released an interview and seemed a bit annoyed about being unemployed
World Class Championship Wrestling 25.06.1983 Houston, TX Attendance: 9064 TV rating: 0.42 Show rating: 70
Bobby Eaton, Bill Irwin Jimmy Garvin (w/ Sunshine) def. Terry Taylor, Ricky Morton & Brian Adias in 9:01 when Dennis Condrey debuts and helps Eaton pinning Adias (67)
At ringside Marc Lowrance interviews Mr. X and José Lothario. José says that him and X are arguing too much for his own liking, but X interrupts him and says that things are very cool. X leaves and once again Lothario seems like he was stopped before saying something important (60)
King Kong Bundy (w/ Skandor Akbar) def. Al Madril in 5:06 (56)
Postmatch Bundy and Akbar are interviewed by Marc Lowrance. Akbar says that Stan Hansen didn't beat his client and Bruiser Brody ran away instead of fighting him, he wants a new challenge and dares Gary Hart to find him a good one! (68)
Ted DiBiase def. Al Perez in 6:56 by mocking Terry Funk's piledriver (61)
At ringside Marc Lowrance interviews The Fantastics, who are not happy about Chris Adams and Tommy Rich and accuse them of cheating at Star Wars! The 5 count wasn't respected many times by the referee and they remain the best team, plus it's 1-1 between them (58)
WCCW Six Men Tag Team Titles: The Fabolous Freebirds (c) def. Chris Adams, Tommy Rich & Iceman Parsons in 12:23 when Roberts pins Parsons (69)
In a taped promo, the von Erichs are exhausted Tag Wars. Kevin says that Hayes didn't beat him in the tag match and he won't beat him at Independence Day Star Wars! David adds that, after him and Kerry couldn't get a clean finish against Gordy and Roberts, Gary Hart has signed a rematch for Star Wars... in a No DQ Match! (83)
Show notes
- Not my best show, it was a transitional episode after a big show, but ratings and attendace stayed high and that is the important part
- Terry Taylor has sustained an injury! He suffered from a minor staph infection and will be out for a month... I wanted to do the mixed tag match at Star Wars and now I can't anymore, as Taylor will be back the day after the show. This is getting frustrating!
- Crowd loved the end of the show and that delivered as usual. Gordy was really great in the main event apparently
- The opener was really good and Dennis Condrey made his debut, after week of teasing! Him and Eaton will be a regular tag team and no, I can't use Jim Cornette as he will be in CWA for the next 5 months at least
- Both DiBiase and Mr. X are getting great at promos and they work well regardless of their opponents or angles
- I will announce more matches next week, even though Taylor's injury annoys me and forces me to change a few things on the card
WCCW Independence Day Star Wars 26.07.1983 - WCCW American Heavyweight Title: Kevin von Erich (c) vs. Michael Hayes - No Disqualification Match: Kevin von Erich & David von Erich vs. Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts - Ted DiBiase vs. Terry Funk

I don't really know if I can get behind your choice of making the second semi-final the final after the first one ended in Double DQ, but, in all fairness... it's logical, really. The titles are now in the midcard, and that's a good thing in my view. The Von Erichs vs. Freebirds feud is still alive and fresh after that decision.
Having Hayes fight for the Heavyweight title sounds good. He's obviously losing... or is he? Great card for the Independence Day Star Wars... which is 4 weeks late! xD

I couldn't wait to get at least the Tag Titles away from the von Erichs vs. Freebirds dynamic, at least for now
I will post the next show Saturday, along with the mid-year reviews!

June 26th - July 4th 1983
- Half of 1983 has gone by and I think it's been a successful semester all around! WCCW is the 1st promotion in the world today and our business is continuously improving, thanks mainly to the von Erich vs. Freebirds feud (we made $230k in June, not bad). I think that the roster has improved a lot and that, although I am committing to a monthly supershow, the storylines are long enough to create meaningful matches. Also, we now own CState too and that could be a good way to create and develop new talents!
- Speaking of CState: with Sam Muchnick retiring, I have hired Gene Kiniski as the new head booker
- Gary Hart spoke really highly about Sherri's potential and I have to agree, she has been really good so far in her role
- News from other promotions: Hulk Hogan buried the AWA locker room and looks like he's not really well liked over there; the WWF champion Billy Graham started a program with Jimmy Snuka; Akira Maeda won a MMA fight and will now return to wrestling
- This are the Award of the midyear! World Class didn't win any of them and New Japan was all over it Wrestler of the Midyear: Tatsumi Fujinami Promotion of the Midyear: NJPW Tag Team of the Midyear: Fujinami & Choshu Match of the Midyear: Hansen & Hogan vs. Inoki & Tiger Mask (NJPW) Show of the Midyear: NJPW Aura of the Dragon Young Star of the Midyear: Buzz Sawyer
World Class Championship Wrestling TV 04.07.1983 Dallas, TX Attendance: 9127 TV rating: 0.48 Show rating: 79
Michael Hayes (w/ Freebirds) def. Iceman Parsons in 6:13. Kevin von Erich is at ringside watching the match with the American Title around his waist (67)
On stage Marc Lowrance interviews Bobby Eaton and Dennis Condrey. Eaton mocks Ricky Morton and says that, as promised, he has a tag partner now! Condray says that they are the Midnight Express and will take no prisoners (58)
WCCW American Tag Titles: The Fantastics def. Tommy Rich & Chris Adams (c) by DQ in 7:23 when Rich is tired of the heels cheating on Adams and starts a riot (62)
On stage Jimmy Garvin interrupts Gary Hart's commentary and says that, now that he injured Terry Taylor and got him out of the company, he needs a match at Star Wars! Hart says that Taylor will be back soon, but in the meantime Garvin and Bundy, who moaned last week, can enter the 10 Men Battle Royal at Star Wars! The winner will have a title shot at the American Heavyweight Title! (65)
The Great Kabuki (w/ Armand Hussein) def. Mr. X in 8:28 when José Lothario, trying to get Checkmate and Magic Dragon away from ringside, distracts the referee and Kabuki hits X low (58)
In ring Ted DiBiase cuts a promo on Terry Funk and again mocks him knowing he's in Japan, but Funk is here and storms to the ring! Funk punches DiBiase in the face and dares him to fight him! DiBiase tries to use the black glove and Funk steals it, so DiBiase leaves the ring in fear (80)
Kerry von Erich & David von Erich def. King Kong Bundy & Dick Murdoch by DQ in 13:02 (84)
Postmatch Bundy and Murdoch try to jump the von Erichs again, but security try to stop them. The Freebirds head to the stage with a conferedate flag, but the von Erichs chase them and rip the flag, then showing the American flag to the crowd to end the show! (85)
Show notes
- This show set 4 different record! Best TV rating so far; best TV attendance; best rating for a TV show; best match of WCCW in 1983. So yeah, I'm quite happy to say the least!
- Keeping the von Erichs on top with the American flag was a must on July 4th. The main event went extremely well and I am now offering Dick Murdoch a contract, he's a great competitor, over in Texas and jelled really well with von Erichs. Plus, Bundy might need a partner one day...
- The Funk segment was my idea as he's often away on Thursdays and, now that he wasn't, maybe DiBiase thought he was and got surprised. I'm not using Funk on TV too much and even All Japan doesn't let him wrestle at all shows: it ruins the mystique and his body is never 100% anyway
- I was thinking of doing a Battle Royal at Star Wars anyway and, with the mixed match out of the way, it was a no brainer. I have big plans for it!
- X and Kabuki had a decent but disappointing match, even though the announcers told a good story. Things are about to develop here
- The Midnight Express might need a manager to cut their promos to be honest, I'll have a look around
- Chris Adams' performance in the tag match was really good and the crowd loved it
WCCW Independence Day Star Wars 26.07.1983 - WCCW American Heavyweight Title: Kevin von Erich (c) vs. Michael Hayes - No Disqualification Match: Kevin von Erich & David von Erich vs. Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts - Ted DiBiase vs. Terry Funk - #1 Contender Battle Royal: Jimmy Garvin vs. King Kong Bundy vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ? vs. ?
