WWE Judgment Day May 21, 2006 US Airways Center Phoenix, AZ SMACKDOWN Exclusive Event
*Bobby Lashley d. Mr. Kennedy by Pinfall in a King of the Ring Semifinal Match Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long, in an effort to "spice things up" resurrected the dormant King of the Ring tournament for Smackdown this year, with the semifinal and finals to be held at the Judgment Day Pay Per View. In a continuation of their feud, newly crowned US Champion Bobby Lashley took on Mr. Kennedy. The Loudmouth tried to psyche out the champion by consistently powdering out of the ring, but the powerhouse grew tired of his antics and chased him down, overcoming a temporary disadvantage when Kennedy cheated to gain the upper hand, and eventually pinning his adversary following a thunderous spear.
*Booker T w/Sharmell d. The Undertaker by Pinfall in a King of the Ring Semifinal Match The Undertaker was viewed by many to be the odds on favorite to win the King of the Ring tournament, squaring off against Booker T. And throughout the match it appeared that the former US Champion wouldn't be able to one up the Phenom. However, after a ref bump, the Undertaker was attacked by the recently debuted Kevin Thorn, who laid out the Undertaker with a massive chair shot to the head, concussing him. This allowed Booker to make the quick cover and pin, advancing to the finals.
*Montel Vontavious Porter d. The Brooklyn Brawler by Pinfall For a number of weeks Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long had been in "advance negotiations" for a new superstar named Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP). After signing him to a lucrative contract, MVP agreed to make his debut at Judgment Day against a hand picked opponent, who turned out to be longtime WWE enhancement talent The Brooklyn Brawler. MVP had little difficulty dealing with the Brawler, finishing him off in under 3 minutes with his Playmaker finisher.
*William Regal & Dave Taylor d. Paul London & Brian Kendrick by Pinfall William Regal had recently transferred over to Smackdown from Raw, claiming that he was going to bring "class" to the blue brand. He immediately tried to impart words of wisdom to the former WWE Tag Team Champions of London and Kendrick, only to be rebuffed by them. Regal challenged them to a tag match, declaring he would have a mystery partner to help him achieve tag team gold. That mystery partner turned out to be former WCW star and longtime British heavyweight Dave Taylor. The technical team of Regal and Taylor surprisingly made easy work of the former tag champions, grounding them both before finishing with a double pin following stereo butterfly suplexes on London and Kendrick each.
*"Mighty" Mike Mondo d. Super Crazy by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Cruiserweight Title The scrappy underdog "Mighty" Mike Mondo had shocked the world by defeating Gregory Helms to become the new cruiserweight champion. He had further angered the former champion by defeating him the following week on Smackdown, thus erasing Helms contractually obligated rematch. In this title match, Helms attempted to get revenge on the Mighty One, interfering in his contest with Super Crazy (Despite the fact that the luchadore was dominating the match). This attack by Helms distracted Super Crazy, allowing Mondo to score the victory with a small package to retain the championship.
*Chris Benoit & Chavo Guerrero d. Team Tazz [Kenny Kruise & Sim Snuka] w/Tazz by Pinfall to Win the WWE Tag Team Titles Chavo Guerrero and Chris Benoit, united by the friendship each of them had shared with Eddie Guerrero, formed a tag team with the express purpose of honoring the deceased hall of famer by winning the WWE Tag Team Titles, which Chavo had won with Eddie before as Los Guerreros. They challenged Team Tazz, the leader of whom didn't have flattering things to say about Guerrero, given his predilection towards "lying, cheating, and stealing." Kruise and Snuka were able to isolate Chavo for much of the match, using their manager to keep Benoit on the sidelines for much of the match. Benoit eventually made the hot tag and cleaned house, only for the referee to get knocked out by one of Benoit's many German Suplexes. Tazz took the opportunity to come in and try and hit Benoit with the title belt as Snuka held him, only for Benoit to duck and Tazz to drill Sim instead. Chavo then hit a Frogsplash from the top as the referee came to, picking up the pinfall and winning the WWE Tag Team Titles for Eddie.
*Booker T w/Sharmell d. Bobby Lashley by Pinfall to Win the King of the Ring Tournament The finals of the King of the Ring tournament saw Bobby Lashley face Booker T, with the former seemingly heavily favored over the latter. The United States Champion continued his run of dominance, throwing the former WCW champion around the ring. The match took a dark turn when Sharmell interjected herself, trying to stop Lashley from spearing her husband, only to inadvertantly take a spear herself. As Lashley and the referee attended to Sharmell, the crowd was stunned as Mark Henry entered the ring. Henry hit the World's Strongest Slam on Lashley, leaving him lying before exiting the ring. This allowed Booker to hit his Houston Hangover on Lashley to pick up the win and become the newest King of the Ring.
*Rey Mysterio d. Randy Orton by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship Rey Mysterio's underdog run to the World Heavyweight Title seemed to be in jeopardy as he faced former World Champion Randy Orton in the main event of Judgment Day. Despite losing to the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, Orton had continued his winning ways in the weeks since, becoming #1 contender by winning a Beat the Clock challenge on Smackdown. Orton claimed that Mysterio's title dream was only one RKO away from turning into a nightmare, and that Orton would easily beat the underdog champion. Orton's overconfidence however was clear, as Mysterio continued to find ways to escape the RKO, preventing the Legend Killer from hitting the home run shot. Eventually Mysterio was caught with the move, and Orton showboated to the crowd before a lackadasial pin, which allowed Mysterio to shock Orton by kicking out. Orton lost his mind and tried to punt Mysterio's head off, only for Mysterio to trip Orton and put him in position for the 619. Mysterio then hit several big springboard moves before finishing off the Legend Killer with a Frogsplash, picking up the win and retaining his title to close the show.
Off-Camera Title Changes: May 29: Melina d. Mickie James for the Divas Title June 2: Tajiri d. "Mighty" Mike Mondo for the Cruiserweight Title

Note: ECW will exist as its own third brand as in real life, but will operate in an ecosystem independent from WWE at least at the outset. This includes its own special live events that would be streamed on WWE.com at the time, similar to NXT Takeovers. That will change eventually, but not for at least a year.ECW One Night Stand June 11, 2006 Hammerstein Ballroom Manhattan, NY
*The FBI [Little Guido & Tony Mamaluke] w/Big Guido d. The Mexicools [Super Crazy & Psychosis] & Danny Doring & Roadkill by Pinfall The opening match of the first ever ECW Pay Per View under the WWE banner saw a three way dance between two old school ECW tag teams and a third team with ECW alumnists Psychosis and Super Crazy. In a match filled with high spots, the match ended when Big Guido grabbed both Super Crazy and Psychosis off of a springboard and chokeslammed both of them, before Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke hit dueling superkicks on Danny Doring to pick up a dominant win for the Full Blooded Italians.
*Gregory Helms d. Tajiri w/The Sinister Minister by Pinfall to Win the WWE Cruiserweight Title A week before One Night Stand, the Japanese Buzzsaw had defeated Mike Mondo to become the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion, threatening to take the title with him to the new ECW brand. Gregory Helms, a former champion, however challenged Tajiri for the gold. Despite Tajiri reuniting with his former manager The Sinister Minister, Helms won a hard fought match, putting away Tajiri with a Shining Wizard to score the pinfall and regain the Cruiserweight Title.
*The Impact Players [Justin Credible & Lance Storm] & Dawn Marie d. MNM [Johnny Nitro & Joey Mercury] & Melina by Pinfall in a Six Person Intergender Tag Match Mercury, Nitro and Melina showed up unannounced to One Night Stand, saying they could take out any tag team in ECW's history without any difficulty. This open challenge was answered by Justin Credible and Lance Storm, flanked by Dawn Marie, who quickly were granted permission by ECW General Manager Paul Heyman for an Intergender Tag Match. A cat fight quickly broke out between Dawn Marie and the WWE Divas Champion Melina, which nearly saw the champion's top get ripped off in the process. As far as the match went, The Impact Players pulled out a victory after Credible hit Mercury with his That's Incredible Tombstone Piledriver.
*Dean Malenko d. Chris Benoit by Submission in an "Eddie Guerrero Tribute Match" In one of the few advertised matches for the show, Dean Malenko came out of retirement for a tribute match against Chris Benoit, with both men paying homage to the late great ECW alumnus Eddie Guerrero. The two had an all time classic of a technical match that saw Malenko score the submission victory over Benoit with the Texas Cloverleaf. After the match, the two embraced and pointed to the sky in deference to Eddie, only for Benoit to suddenly clothesline Malenko out of nowhere. Benoit then locked Malenko in the Crippler Crossface and refused to let it go, even as Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero came out to try and snap Benoit back to his senses.
*Sabu d. Kenny Kruise w/Sim Snuka & Tazz by Pinfall With Tazz coming over to ECW, he brought his Team Tazz protege's with him in Kenny Kruise and Sim Snuka, issuing a challenge to his old ECW rival Sabu in the process. However, Kruise was unable to live up to Tazz's expectations, as Sabu beat him in under 5 minutes, hitting an Arabian Facebuster before picking up the pinfall.
*Edge w/Lita d. Cactus Jack by Pinfall in a Street Fight After being removed as Raw Interim General Manager a few months earlier, there was a career retrospective on Mick Foley on an episode of Raw. This celebration was interrupted by the Rated R Superstar Edge, who blamed Foley for his loss of the WWE Title at Wrestlemania while simultaneously decrying the "hardcore wrestling" that Foley had pioneered in the 90s. Edge challenged Foley to a match on Raw, but only if it was a "legitimate" wrestling match, which ended with Foley winning via DQ after Edge cheated by hitting the Hardcore Legend with a steel chair. Foley then came back, reverting to his Cactus Jack persona and challenged Edge to a Street Fight in the Hammerstein Ballroom. Both men beat each other to a bloody pulp, with Lita also getting in on the action, taking a bump into spilled thumb tacks on the floor. The end came when Foley lit a table on fire, attempting to suplex Edge into it. Lita came back and held Foley's leg, allowing Edge to break free. Edge then dived through the ropes, spearing Cactus Jack through the table and scoring the pinfall victory on the outside.
*Tommy Dreamer w/Beulah & Terry Funk d. John Bradshaw Leyfield by Pinfall Newly installed Smackdown color commentator John Bradshaw Leyfield (Replacing Tazz, who was transferring to the new brand) had taken it upon himself to begin a one man crusade against the revitalized ECW, calling it a cancer on the wrestling scene. He showed up to One Night Stand flanked with NYPD in tow, threatening to shut down the entire event, only to be answered by Mr. ECW himself, Tommy Dreamer, who had Beulah and Terry Funk in tow. Dreamer challenged the former WWE Champion to an impromptu fight right then and there, which Bradshaw agreed to. Despite being in hostile territory, Bradshaw's bar-room fight background lended itself to the Extreme Rules nature of ECW. Though before finishing off Dreamer, JBL took to the microphone and again lambasted ECW, saying the NYPD cops at ringside would close the show before the main event for the WWE Title. At that moment though, Natural Born Killaz played, heralding the arrival of New Jack back to ECW. New Jack showed up and decked Bradshaw ad the security with all manner of hardcore coutriment, as Dreamer came to and then hit a Spicolli Driver through a table set up on the outside for the 123.
*Rob Van Dam w/Bill Alfonso d. John Cena by Pinfall to Win the WWE Championship Shortly after Backlash, Rob Van Dam appeared on WWE Raw and challenged John Cena to a WWE Title match, declaring that it should take place on his home turf at ECW One Night Stand. Cena agreed, over the wishes of Raw General Manager Shane McMahon, though Cena disregarded the GM's wishes. Inside the Hammerstein Ballroom, the polarizing Cena received a fiercely negative reaction compared to the homefield advantage enjoyed by RVD, who came to the ring to his old ECW theme and had Bill Alfonso in his corner. Cena and Van Dam wrestled a competent match, with the crowd's negative chanting clearly getting under the skin of the champion despite his best efforts. In the end, Cena appeared ready to score the pinfall with an FU to RVD, but Van Dam was able to counter, using a tossed chair from Bill Alfonso to hit the Van Daminator on Cena. RVD then hit the 5 Star Frogsplash to pin Cena cleanly and win the WWE Title, to the delight of the crowd but the worry of Shane McMahon in the balcony to close the show.
Off-Camera Title Change: June 12: Trevor Murdoch d. Shelton Benjamin by Pinfall to Win the Intercontinental Title June 13: Rob Van Dam Vacated the WWE Title by Throwing It Down, Declaring Himself the new ECW World Heavyweight Champion June 16: Mark Henry d. Bobby Lashley for the United States Title

WWE Vengeance June 25, 2006 Charlotte Bobcats Arena Charlotte, NC RAW Exclusive Event
*John Cena d. "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters by Pinfall in a First Round WWE Title Tournament Match Following John Cena's title loss at ECW One Night Stand, Rob Van Dam (in a promo that mirrored the one delivered by Shane Douglas in 1994) threw down the WWE Championship in favor of the newly restored ECW World Heavyweight Championship. This forced Raw General Manager Shane McMahon to institute a one night tournament at Vengeance to crown a new WWE Champion. At first, Cena was not going to be part of the tournament (as punishment for losing the title in the first place), only earning his way in after winning a 15 man battle royal on Raw. His first round match against Chris Masters went off without incident, as Cena blocked Masters attempt to lock him in the Master Lock, reversing it into an FU for the Pinfall victory.
*Edge w/Lita d. Kane by Pinfall in a First Round WWE Title Match The second match of the first round saw the Rated R superstar take on the Big Red Machine, despite Edge's contention that he should just be given the title instead. Edge played a cat and mouse game with Kane, waiting for the Demon Incarnate to make a mistake. Kane however nearly put Edge away after hoisting him up into the air for a Tombstone, only to be distracted by Lita on the outside. Kane grabbed Lita as if to Chokeslam her to the outside, but he was instead rolled up from behind by Edge, who held Kane's tights to get the 1-2-3 and escape with a win, running off with Lita as Kane fumed from ringside.
*Shelton Benjamin d. Trevor Murdoch w/Garrison Cade by Pinfall in a First Round WWE Title Match The night after One Night Stand saw Trevor Murdoch (with help from his tag partner Garrison Cade) win the Intercontinental Championship from Shelton Benjamin, leading to this rematch at Vengeance that was made. However it would not be for the Intercontinental Title, rather it would be a first round match in the WWE Title Tournament. Cade's interference was thwarted a second time, as the former tag champion was ejected from ringside. This allowed Shelton to counter Murdoch's attempt at the Tumbleweed, turning it instead into first a pinning combination and then a T-Bone Suplex for the victory to advance.
*The Big Show d. Ric Flair by Pinfall in a First Round WWE Title Match The final match of the 1st round of the WWE title tournament saw hometown legend "Nature Boy" Ric Flair attempt to become a 17 Time World Champion, though standing in his way was the former 2 time WWE Champion and the McMahon's preferred champion, The Big Show. Flair was obviously the sentimental favorite, and he did his best against the Giant, targeting his knee and even managing to get the Giant down at one point, withstanding the hard hitting moves of the Big Show throughout the match. Flair locked on the Figure 4 and seemingly had the match won, only for The Big Show's size to allow him to reach for the ropes and force the break on the hold. Flair attempted to come off the top rope, only to be caught and hit with a Chokeslam. Big Show then waited for Flair to stumble to his feet before knocking him out with the Right Hand of Doom to pick up the victory.
*MNM [Johnny Nitro, Joey Mercury & Melina] d. The Hardy Boyz [Matt & Jeff Hardy] & Trish Stratus by Pinfall in a Mixed 6-Person Tag Match Melina had managed to defeat Mickie James for the Divas Title, putting her in the crosshairs of longtime Divas Champion Trish Stratus. Melina teamed up with her tag team, Mercury & Morrison, as they attempted to exact revenge on the World Tag Team Champions The Hardy Boyz, who teamed with Trish in this mixed tag match. Matt bore the brunt of the assault from Mercury and Morrison, with Jeff knocked out early on by a Snapshot on the outside, leading to the match being a three on two for most of its run time. Trish eventually got the hot tag, forcing Melina into the match, and she proceeded to dominate the Divas Champion, only to be taken down by Mercury pulling the top rope, causing her to tumble to the outside. Melina tagged in Morrison, forcing the injured Matt back into the ring, but Jeff came back from the back and made a hot tag, hitting a Whisper in the Wind that took out both Mercury and Morrison. Trish tagged herself in, going for the Stratusfaction on Melina, but the distraction on the outside of Jeff and Matt fighting MNM led to Melina using the Divas Title belt to KO Trish, picking up the pinfall victory for her team.
*Edge w/Lita d. John Cena by Disqualification in a Semifinal WWE Title Tournament Match Edge and John Cena battled one on one for the first time since the Royal Rumble in the semifinals of the WWE Title Tournament, and Cena faced an uphill mountain as both Shane McMahon and Lita attempted to get involved, only to be thwarted by the Doctor of Thuganomics. Edge hit a Spear on the outside and nearly got a countout victory, only to be caught by Cena's STF. Edge almost tapped out, only for Shane to come back and pull the referee out to prevent the submission. Cena came back and attacked Shane, chasing the GM around the ring, before Kane decided to reenter the equation. Kane attacked Edge, getting revenge for his underhanded victory earlier in the night by Chokeslamming him through a table, leaving the ringside area as the referee saw only this interference, disqualifying Cena and allowing Edge to sneak into the finals for the title yet again.
*Shelton Benjamin d. The Big Show by Pinfall in a Semifinal WWE Title Tournament Match The Big Show came into this semifinal match against Shelton Benjamin as the odds on favorite to advance to the title tournament finals, and indeed controlled much of the match, despite Benjamin's explosive offense. The Big Show however had difficulty putting the former Intercontinental Champion away, allowing Benjamin to chip away at the Giant and eventually get him down on the ground. Benjamin went for a top rope cross body, only to get caught in midair much like Flair had. Benjamin fought out of the Chokeslam though and hit a dropkick that sent Big Show into the turnbuckle, before hitting a huge splash that cause the Big Show to smack his head into the ring post. This dazed him enough for Benjamin to hit a springboard clothesline to take him down and pick up the pinfall victory. As Benjamin celebrated though, Big Show came too and gained some degree of vengeance as he delivered a low blow to Benjamin before hitting him with the Right Hand of Doom to knock him out.
*Shelton Benjamin d. Edge w/Lita by Pinfall to Win the Vacant WWE Championship As Big Show headed to the back following his assault on Shelton Benjamin, Edge came running out with Lita, demanding that the tournament finals begin immediately. The referee was initially against the demands, only for Shane McMahon to appear and order the match started. The delay allowed Benjamin to kick out of the immediate pin attempt by Edge, but the Rated R Superstar immediately set up for a Spear, only to be distracted by John Cena's music playing (though Cena himself didn't appear). Benjamin then dodged the Spear and hit a Splash in the corner. Benjamin then hit the T-Bone Suplex to pick up the surprise victory and become the new WWE Champion to the shock of everyone.
*Triple H w/Shawn Michaels d. Kurt Angle w/Shane McMahon by Pinfall One man who wasn't included in the WWE Title tournament was Triple H, who quickly found himself on the bad end of his father-in-law Mr. McMahon and Brother-in-Law Shane McMahon after being forced to defeat his former friend at Backlash, resulting in Michaels being fired. Triple H tried to advocate for HBK to be rehired, only for Mr. McMahon to try and punish his son-in-law for his impudence by denying him the opportunity at any future WWE Championship Matches. Eventually Shane made a match between Triple H and Kurt Angle for Vengeance (after Triple H had caused Angle to be eliminated from the 15-man qualifying battle royal on Raw) where if Triple H won, Michaels would be reinstated, but if Angle won, Triple H would be fired from WWE. Triple H and Angle had a classic matchup, with The Game surprisingly able to outwrestle the Olympic Hero. Angle eventually locked in the Ankle Lock, only for Shane to try and recreate the Montreal Screwjob. Michaels, who was sitting at ringside, jumped the barricade and delivered Sweet Chin Music to Shane, knocking out the Raw General Manager. The distraction allowed Triple H to hit a Spinebuster followed by a Pedigree on Angle to pick up the win, reinstating Shawn Michaels. After the match, the two former rivals looked at each other before giving each other a high five and a trademark crotch chop to the retreating Shane McMahon and Kurt Angle, signifying the return of D-Generation X to close the show.

WWE The Great American Bash July 23, 2006 Conseco Fieldhouse Indianapolis, IN SMACKDOWN Exclusive Event
*Gregory Helms d. Jamie Noble by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Cruiserweight Title With Kid Kash having transferred over to the ECW brand, Jamie Noble was left without a tag partner, though he decided to try and regain the Cruiserweight title instead. In a standard title challenge against Gregory Helms. Unfortunately, Helms was able to hold on to the title, defeating Noble with a Shining Wizard for the pinfall.
*Montel Vontavious Porter d. Finlay by Pinfall Since his debut at Judgment Day, Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) had been easily squashing enhancement talent and low level superstars in all of his matches. After weeks of hearing derisive commentary over his lackluster competition, MVP asked to face someone of a higher caliber, issuing an open challenge to the locker room. This challenge was answered by the Irishman Finlay. In the first part of their match, MVP was overwhelmed by Finlay's brawling style, having to powder out of the ring at regular intervals. As Finlay gave chase around the ring, MVP took advantage and caught him as he dived back into the ring, targeting Finlay's knee and trying to keep the brawler on the ground. Finlay was able to turn the tide following a distraction from the gremlin known as Hornswoggle, who appeared under the ring and then stole MVP's gold chain from the ringside area, but as the referee dealt with Hornswoggle when he tried to toss Finlay's sheleilaigh into the ring, MVP hit a low blow on Finlay and then hit the Playmaker for the victory.
*William Regal & Dave Taylor d. Chavo Guerrero & Chris Benoit by Disqualification to Retain the WWE Tag Team Titles Since winning the King of the Ring tournament, Booker T (now calling himself King Booker) had assembled a stable called the King's Court, consisting of himself, his "Knight of the Round" Mark Henry and the tag team of Regal and Taylor. The British fighters had won the WWE Tag Team Titles from the team from Benoit and Guerrero following One Night Stand, as Benoit seemingly became more violent and unhinged. In interviews the Wolverine explained that he was tired of "fighting for Eddie" and that he just wanted to move on with his career, while simultaneously maintaining his team with Chavo as a "tribute" to Eddie. In the title rematch, it seemed that whatever issues Chavo and Benoit had were fixed, as they were able to coexist and dominate Dave Taylor in the early going. But Benoit became too aggressive yet again, taking his frustrations out on Regal and Taylor to the point where he failed to answer a five count from the referee, resulting in a disqualification. When Chavo confronted Benoit about it, Benoit seemed to calm down, only to turn on Chavo and lock him in the Crossface for a brief moment, before he finally let go as officials and Rey Mysterio came down to check on Chavo.
*The Undertaker d. Kevin Thorn w/Ariel by Disqualification In the King of the Ring tournament at Judgment Day, The Undertaker had been attacked by the debuting Kevin Thorn, who cost the Deadman his semifinal match with eventual winner King Booker. This led to The Undertaker challenging Thorn to a match at The Great American Bash. The gothic vampire tried to get the jump on the Phenom early, attacking him before his entrance had even finished. This early jump allowed Thorn to get some degree of offense in, but the Phenom quickly turned the tide and took control over the youngster. It appeared that The Undertaker would finish off Thorn, the lights turned red and the familiar theme of the Brood began playing over the PA. When the lights came back, Gangrel had made his return, standing on the ring apron in front of The Undertaker. Gangrel caused a vat of blood to fall from the rafters, dousing the Phenom in a Blood Bath, before attacking Undertaker with Thorn and Ariel, resulting in a DQ victory for the Undertaker. The trio then made their way to the back as Undertaker struggled to his feet.
*Batista d. Mr. Kennedy by Pinfall Back in January, Batista had suffered a torn pectoral muscle which had sidelined him for several months. This precluded any possibility of Batista defending his Royal Rumble crown or challenging for a title at Wrestlemania. The Animal was slated to make his return to The Great American Bash against the loudmouth Mr. Kennedy, who claimed that Batista had gone soft and that he would "neuter" the Animal once and for all. However Batista showed no signs of ring rust, as he casually swatted away Kennedy's attacks and eventually pinned him with a Batista Bomb.
*Mark Henry & Bobby Lashley Wrestled to a Double Countout [Henry Retains the United States Title] Mark Henry had transferred over to Smackdown at Judgment Day, helping Booker T beat Bobby Lashley in the King of the Ring final in the process. After being dubbed "Sir Henry" by the newly crowned King Booker and made his official "Knight of the Round," The World's Strongest Man managed to wrestle the United States Title off of Lashley as well, leading to this one on one rematch. The match quickly turned into an out and out brawl that the referee could barely maintain control of. In the end, Lashley speared Henry through the barricade at ringside, with both men being counted out as they continued to brawl into the crowd.
*King Booker w/Queen Sharmell d. Rey Mysterio by Pinfall to Win the World Heavyweight Championship King Booker had earned a title shot by winning both the King of the Ring tournament as well as a battle royal on Smackdown. Booker promised to complete the King's Court by winning the World Heavyweight Title from Rey Mysterio, this despite the luchadore earning a pinfall victory over the challenger in a six man tag on Smackdown. Mysterio's quickness would have been the deciding factor in the match, as he was able to run circles around the self-professed King. Outside interference from Sharmell was able to turn the tide in favor of King Booker briefly, but turned back to Mysterio in short order. The champion hit a 619 which took out the challenger, but also sent him stumbling back into the referee. This brought out Taylor and Regal who double teamed the champion with the ref down. Chris Benoit came out with a steel chair, chasing off his adversaries from earlier in the night, before turning on Rey and smashing him in the back with the chair. Benoit then coldly looked down at Rey before stalking off without emotion on his face. Booker crawled over and made the cover as the referee came to, earning the victory and becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion to close out the show.

Note: For many of these ECW shows, ECW alumns will be brought in for short term runs with the company, mostly one off matches. This is in addition to the usual mix of stars and developmental prospects that defined ECW at this time. There will also be little crossover between ECW and the main roster, at least in the short term.ECW Heatwave August 19, 2006 ECW Arena Philadelphia, PA ECW Exclusive Event
*The Blue World Order [Nova & Steven Richards] w/The Blue Meanie d. The FBI [Little Guido & Tony Mamaluke] w/Big Guido by Pinfall to Win the ECW World Tag Team Titles ECW General Manager Paul Heyman had opted to resurrect the ECW World Tag Team Titles for his brand, leading to a tournament to crown new champions. The finals of that tournament consisted of the Blue World Order facing the Full Blooded Italians. Despite the experience advantage, The FBI were unable to counter Nova's unique offense or the outside antics of The Blue Meanie, which eventually saw Richards hit Tony Mamaluke with a Stevie Kick to pick up the win and become the new ECW Tag Team Champions.
*CM Punk d. Lance Storm by Submission For many weeks since One Night Stand, there had been vignettes showcasing the talents of indie superstar CM Punk. Punk was finally set to make his debut in this match, taking on Lance Storm. Storm and Punk had a stupendous technical match, which eventually ended with Punk picking up the victory via locking Storm in his Anaconda Vice submission hold. After the match, Storm shook Punk's hand and raised it in victory.
*Umaga w/Tazz d. Sabu by Pinfall Former ECW Champion Tazz had promised to dominate the new promotion, mostly through his managerial exploits if he couldn't do it through his own physical involvement anymore. Though his Team Tazz tag team had lost in the first round of the ECW World Tag Team Title Tournament, the singles star that Tazz introduced was the "Samoan Savage" Umaga (a repackaged Jamal). Umaga took on Tazz's old ECW rival in Sabu and thoroughly dominated him, eventually finishing him off with a huge top rope splash following a Samoan Spike to the throat.
*Test w/Lou E. Dangerously d. Balls Mahoney w/Axl Rotten by Pinfall Former ECW manager (and Paul E. wannabe) Lou E. Dangerously had appeared from nowhere, promising to bring a real "WWE Superstar" to ECW. That superstar turned out to be the returning Test, who promised he would destroy the new ECW and bring "sports entertainment" to the ECW Arena. Test's first match was against one half of the Hardcore Chair Swinging Freaks in Balls Mahoney. Ballas put up a good fight, but Test was able to finish him off with his Big Boot, kicking the chair straight into Mahoney's face for the victory.
*Tommy Dreamer & The Sandman w/Beulah d. Team Tazz [Kenny Kruise & Sim Snuka] w/Tazz by Pinfall The ECW original tag team of Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman had defeated Team Tazz in the first round of the ECW Tag Title tournament. Kruise and Snuka had returned the favor by costing Dreamer and Sandman their match against the FBI in the semifinals of the tournament. As a result, the two teams met up at Heatwave. Despite the youth and speed of Team Tazz, they couldn't compete with the sheer hardcore devilry that Dreamer and Sandman brought to the table, with the veterans picking up the win after Sandman hit a White Russian Legsweep on Snuka for the win. After the match, Tazz berated his team and left them to their own devices, seemingly quitting as their manager.
*Rob Van Dam d. Shane Douglas by Pinfall to Retain the ECW World Heavyweight Championship The very first episode of ECW on SciFi, Rob Van Dam had declared himself as the new ECW World Heavyweight Champion (throwing down the WWE Title in the process) in a promo that mirrored the one Shane Douglas gave when throwing down the NWA Title in 1994. ECW General Manager Paul Heyman had called Van Dam the "Franchise" of ECW, which brought out to the shock of many Shane Douglas to the ECW Arena. The original Franchise attacked Heyman and said that he was the one who put ECW on the map, and that if anyone was going to lead the new ECW, it would be him. With Heyman and Van Dam on the shelf (the latter due to a kayfabe assault from Douglas, but in reality due to his suspension for drugs), Douglas ran ECW as de facto GM for a period of time, before RVD returned to take one Douglas and challenge him to a title match at Heatwave. The technically minded Douglas worked over the kayfabe injured knee of Van Dam, locking him in a Figure-4 while mocking Ric Flair in the process. Van Dam fought out of the hold though and hit his signature offense, including a Van Daminator to the face of the self-professed Franchise. Van Dam then hit a split legged moonsault followed by an attempt at the 5 Star Frogsplash, only for Douglas to move out of the way. Douglas then hit his Pittsburgh Plunge finisher, only to get a 2 count. Van Dam eventually hit a second Van Daminator, before setting up Douglas in the corner and hitting the springboard Van Terminator onto the Franchise, picking up the pinfall win and celebrating in the ECW crowd to close the show.

I always find it interesting, going through these rebookings, how many of us take inspiration from Blampied's rebookings.
I'm guilty of it too for the record.

I try to avoid it, honestly, but sometimes it makes its way in subconsciously because they are pretty close to what I would have done anyway.

WWE Summerslam August 20, 2006 TD Banknorth Garden Boston, MA
*Matt Hardy d. Jeff Hardy, Trevor Murdoch & Garrison Cade by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title In recent weeks, the Intercontinental Title had hot potatoed between the individual members of The Hardy Boyz and Cade & Murdoch, leading to a Fatal Fourway match at Summerslam with each individual member trying to capture the singles gold. Despite the teams working together at times, it became clear that the lure of the IC Title would split apart even the most together teams, as the Hardys fought between themselves while Murdoch and Cade tore into each other with reckless abandon. In the end, Jeff hit a Swanton on Murdoch, only to be stopped by Cade attempting to pin his own partner. Matt broke up the pin and then hit the Twist of Fate on Cade to pick up the win and retain the Intercontinental Championship.
*Hulk Hogan & Ric Flair d. MNM [Johnny Nitro & Joey Mercury] w/Melina by Pinfall to Win the World Tag Team Titles Ric Flair was initially set to take on the duo of MNM by teaming with WWE road agent Arn Anderson (despite the fact that Anderson was incapable of taking most bumps) by the advertising of this match, after the duo of Nitro and Mercury had made fun of the Enforcer on an episode of Raw. However, with Arn unable to compete (due to a kayfabe backstage attack on the pre-show), Flair found a replacement partner in Hulk Hogan. The world tag team champions were flummoxed as to how to handle this new development, and were easily bested by the legendary duo, as Hogan pinned Mercury following a Leg Drop while Flair had Nitro in the Figure-4 Leglock.
*The Miz w/Billy Kidman d. Gregory Helms by Disqualification [Helms Retains the Cruiserweight Title] Former Reality TV Star turned WWE superstar The Miz had recently turned to the Cruiserweight Division on Smackdown, using longtime champion Billy Kidman as his trainer and mentor. He had garnered a small winning streak, leading to a title match against Gregory Helms. The champion easily discounted The Miz, but nearly lost it in a quick rollup early on. Helms then took control of the match, but failed to put away the Miz even after hitting the Shining Wizard. Helms then grabbed the Cruiserweight Title Belt, only to be intercepted by Kidman, who stole the title belt away. Miz nearly got the win on an inside cradle, but Helms was able to kick out. To escape with his title, Helms then drilled Miz below the belt, resulting in the disqualification victory for the challenger.
*The Undertaker d. Kevin Thorn w/Ariel & Gangrel in a First Blood Match After Gangrel managed to attack The Undertaker at The Great American Bash, he allied himself with the Gothic Vampire Kevin Thorn. This led the youngster to grow confident and challenge the Phenom to a First Blood match, where the only way to win was to make your opponent bleed first. After both men brutalized each either, with The Undertaker picking up the win after hitting a massive steel chair shot to Thorn's head, busting him open. He then delivered a Tombstone to Gangrel to cement his victory over the vampires.
*Bobby Lashley d. Mark Henry in a Last Man Standing Match to Win the United States Title After their US Title match had ended in a double countout at The Great American Bash, Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long made a rematch for Summerslam that would be under Last Man Standing rules, in the hope that the match would continue until a definitive winner could be named. Henry came out of the gate quickly, attacking Lashley on the entrance ramp and beating him down around ringside. Lashley was able to withstand the attacks from the World's Strongest Man though, and after a bruising encounter hit a Dominator to the 400 Pound Henry on top of the stage that sent him crashing through a table below. Henry failed to make it to his feet, giving Lashley the win and allowing him to reclaim the US Title.
*D-Generation X [Shawn Michaels & Triple H] d. Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, The Big Show & Kurt Angle in a 4-2 Handicap Match Where the Pinned Superstar Was Fired At Vengeance, Triple H and Shawn Michaels had reunited as D-Generation X, much to the chagrin of Mr. McMahon and his allies. The duo then proceeded to perform a series of pranks on the owner of the company, including spraypainting the DX logo on the side of Titan Towers and messing with the audio tracks on Raw, replacing Vince McMahon's theme music every week with a different tune (ranging from a xylophone rendition of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" to a version of his usual theme tune only with fart noises instead of the lyrics to the song). Tired of their antics, Vince made a 4 on 2 Handicap Match for Summerslam, teaming with his son Shane as well as The Big Show and Kurt Angle against DX, with the additional stipulation that the match must end in pinfall or submission, and that whoever was pinned would be fired. Despite having a 4 on 2 advantage, the match largely came down to Angle and The Big Show facing D-X, with the McMahons instead picking their shots. D-X however proved to be a more cohesive unit than the McMahon contingent, eventually ending the match with Triple H hitting a Pedigree on Angle following the Olympic Hero taking a Sweet Chin Music from Michaels, sending Angle packing from the WWE in kayfabe (in reality, he had requested his release and would be officially released from the company 5 days later).
*Chris Benoit d. Rey Mysterio by Referee Stoppage in a No Disqualifications Match To the shock of many, Chris Benoit had attacked Rey Mysterio the previous month at The Great American Bash, costing him the World Heavyweight Title. Benoit explained on Smackdown, in order to move past Eddie's death, he needed to rid himself of every vestige of Eddie Guerrero from the WWE. That started with Mysterio, whom he accused of profiting off of Eddie's death rather than honoring it. Benoit and Mysterio had a one-sided match at Summerslam, with Benoit more focused on hurting Rey than he was at beating him. After Benoit locked Rey in a Figure-4 around the ring post and then smashed a chair into it, leading to the referee using his discretion to stop the match and declare Benoit the winner. Benoit coldly walked off as EMT's dealt with Mysterio's injured knee.
*Batista d. King Booker w/Queen Sharmell by Countout [Booker Retains the World Title] The Animal Batista, courtesy of his victory over Mr. Kennedy the month before, became #1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship held by King Booker. This was despite Booker's best efforts to avoid having to defend the title. Using his "royal major domo" William Regal, Booker negotiated a clause into the title contract unbeknownst to Batista that said that Batista wouldn't receive an automatic rematch for the title, regardless of how the match ended. Batista controlled much of their contest, despite the King's best efforts. However Booker's underhanded tactics would win the day, after Batista clothesline him out of the ring, Booker feigned a knee injury, allowing the doctor at ringside to delay Batista from coming out. The referee then counted out Booker, giving Batista the win but allowing Booker to keep the title. Booker then jumped to his feet "miraculously" healed and running for the back as Batista gave chase...only for the Animal to run into the duo of Regal and Taylor, who each used a royal scepter to knock out Batista and leave him lying on the stage.
*Edge w/Lita d. John Cena & Shelton Benjamin by Pinfall to Win the WWE Championship In a huge upset, Shelton Benjamin had won the vacant WWE Championship at Vengeance by way of a victory over the Rated R Superstar Edge. The following night on Raw, John Cena immediately challenged Benjamin to a title match, only for that challenge to be equaled by Edge. A #1 contenders match between the two rivals ended in a double countout, leading to Raw GM Shane McMahon (otherwise preoccupied with his dealings with DX) making a triple threat match for the main event of Summerslam. The match was largely contested between Edge and Cena, though Benjamin clearly proved his worth as well. In the end, Cena seemingly had the match won when he hit Benjamin with an FU after catching him off a dive from the top rope. But Edge snuck in with the WWE Title Belt and hit Cena in the back to break up the pin, before pinning Benjamin himself and escaping with the WWE Title to end the show.

WWE Unforgiven September 17, 2006 Air Canada Centre Toronto, Ontario, Canada RAW Exclusive Event
*Ric Flair d. Johnny Nitro w/Joey Mercury & Melina by Submission The Nature Boy Ric Flair had continued his feud with the team of MNM following his victory at Summerslam (when he was stripped of the tag titles due to Hulk Hogan not being his advertised tag partner/not a full time competitor), but this time faced Johnny Nitro in singles competition. Nitro and Mercury were seemingly having difficulties with one another, each one trying to claim to be the top star of the team. This lack of communication would come back to haunt the pair, as attempted interference saw Mercury accidentally hit Nitro with a gold chain wrapped around his fist. Flair then delivered a low blow to Mercury, sending him sprawling to the outside. Flair locked in the Figure-4 Leglock, resulting in a submission victory over Johnny Nitro. After the match, Mercury and Nitro exploded into a fistfight that Melina desperately tried to break up, before Nitro stormed off to the back.
*Sylvester Terkay w/Elijah Burke d. Kane by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title Former MMA fighter Sylvester Terkay had made his WWE debut on Raw in the middle part of June, and had (along with his corner man Elijah Burke) run roughshot over every person put in front of him since. This culminated with his victory over Matt Hardy for the Intercontinental Title the night after Summerslam. Burke however seemed to write a check that Terkay would have difficulty cashing, issuing an open challenge to anyone in the back which was then answered by the Big Red Machine Kane. The Demon Incarnate would proceed to chokeslam Terkay through the announce table on the outside of the ring in the leadup to this match. Surprisingly though, Terkay was able to match up well against the former WWE Champion, using his MMA style to power through Kane's high octane offense. Burke would get involved, distracting Kane and eating a chokeslam for his trouble, before Terkay hit a modified back suplex onto the Big Red Machine. He followed that up with a bridging German Suplex into a pin to score what many would call an upset and to retain the title.
*Jeff Hardy d. Carlito by Pinfall Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Carlito had been on an "uncool" losing streak in recent months, and he looked to get off the shnide by facing Jeff Hardy in a standard one on one contest. Unfrotunately for him, Hardy countered a Backstabber attempt and hit a Twist of Fate followed by a Swanton Bomb for the singles victory. Later on in the evening, a despondent Carlito was approached by a celebrating Ric Flair, with the Nature Boy talking about Carlito's father and trying to give him a pep talk.
*The Highlanders [Robbie & Rory MacAllister] d. Garrison Cade & Trevor Murdoch by Pinfall to Win the Vacant World Tag Team Titles The night after Summerslam saw Raw General Manager Shane McMahon strip away the World Tag Team Titles from the team of Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, leading to a 10 team battle royal on Raw to crown new champions. The final two teams in that battle royal were the former champions Cade and Murdoch, as well as newcomers Robbie and Rory MacAllister. The Highlanders, as the brothers were known, were Scotsmen who had recently come to America to ply their trade. Cade and Murdoch controlled the early part of the match, but to the surprise of many the toughness of the Scotsmen couldn't be stopped, and the Highlanders won in a huge upset, defeating Cade with a Caber Toss (a double flapjack into a pin.)
*Randy Orton d. Shelton Benjamin by Pinfall The Legend Killer Randy Orton had made his return to WWE the night after Summerslam, redebuting on Raw (as a result of the trade that sent Mark Henry to Smackdown earlier in the year) and making his intentions to claim the WWE Championship well known. In pursuit of this goal, he began a feud with former WWE Champion Shelton Benjamin, which saw the Gold Standard shock everyone by pinning Orton in his first match back on Raw. Orton would get his revenge at Unforgiven though, pinning Benjamin after catching him springboarding into the ring with an RKO to pick up the victory.
*Trish Stratus d. Lita by Submission to Win the Divas Title The two long running rivals of the Divas division had their final one on one encounter in this match, as Trish made it clear that win or lose this would be her final match in the WWE in front of her hometown Toronto crowd. Lita played up that she would be the one to deny Trish victory in her hometown, nearly pinning Trish after a Moonsault, but Stratus rallied back and eventually hit a Chick Kick on the Divas Champion. Instead of going for a pin, though, Trish instead locked in the Sharpshooter, causing Lita to tap and giving Trish one final bow in her home town before riding off into the sunset.
*Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon & The Big Show d. D-Generation X [Shawn Michaels & Triple H] by Pinfall in a Handicap Hell in a Cell Match After DX had humiliated the McMahons and sent Kurt Angle packing from the WWE at Summerslam, Vince and Shane (as well as The Big Show) vowed to get revenge against Michaels and Triple H, making a handicap Hell in a Cell match for Unforgiven. Michaels and Triple H relished the chance to take out the McMahons once again, humiliating both of them by forcing Big Show and Shane to join the "Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass" Club at one point. However the fun and games ended when Randy Orton, who had been hiding under the ring since his match earlier in the night, slithered out and hit a Punt Kick on a Prone Shawn Michaels on the outside. He then hit Triple H with a sledge hammer shot, allowing Vince to crawl over and pin his son-in-law and gain a measure of revenge on the degenerates.
*John Cena d. Edge in a TLC Match to Win the WWE Championship After Edge conned his way into the WWE Title at Summerslam, John Cena immediately reappeared on Raw and demanded a final match against Edge. While the Rated R superstar didn't want to grant Cena any kind of match, Cena agreed to any match type anywhere Edge wanted it. This caused Edge to choose a TLC match in Edge's own hometown of Toronto, with an additional stipulation that Cena would leave Monday Night Raw if Edge won. The champion used his familiarity with the stipulation to work over Cena, attacking him with a steel chair at every opportunity, but Cena turned the tide when Edge accidentally missed a spear and sent himself careening through a table. Edge distracted Cena when he was on the ladder, threatening to grab the title, when Edge pulled Cena's father from the front row and slammed him on the mat, leading Cena to abandon the belt and chase Edge around the ring, before being hit with a steel chair to the gut. In the end, Cena and Edge fought on top of the ladder with two tables stacked on top of each other in the middle of the ring. Cena hoisted Edge onto his shoulders and then delivered an FU to the Rated R superstar, sending him crashing through the tables below, before reaching up and grabbing the title, hugging his father at ringside to celebrate to close the show.
Off-Camera Title Changes: September 18: The Divas Title is Vacated due to Trish Stratus' retirement September 25: Ashley Massaro Won a Divas Battle Royal to Become the New Divas Champion

ECW Barely Legal October 7, 2006 Mid-Hudson Civic Center Poughkeepsie, NY ECW Exclusive Event
*The Sandman d. Matt Striker by Pinfall Former teacher Matt Striker had debuted on ECW as the "Anti-Extremist", decrying the lack of rules within the promotion and promising to clean up wrestling in Philadelphia. He tried to shut down the PPV before it began, promising to hijack the broadcast with a detailed lesson on "great American literature" before launching into an AP presentation on F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Before he could get too far, though, he was interrupted by Enter Sandman, as The Sandman came through the crowd and attacked Striker. A short match followed which The Sandman won via a second rope splash through a table for the pinfall.
*CM Punk d. Psychosis w/Super Crazy by Submission The undefeated Straight Edge Superstar CM Punk continued his run of dominance in the company, scoring the submission victory over Psychosis by locking the luchadore inside the Anaconda Vice.
*Umaga w/Tazz d. Kenny Kruise & Sim Snuka by Pinfall in a Handicap Match Tazz's weapon of destruction, The Samoan Savage Umaga, also continued his reign of dominance in ECW as he took on Tazz's former proteges in Kenny Kruise and Sim Snuka. The two former WWE tag team champions put up a decent fight against Umaga, but both of them eventually fell to the heavyweights devastating Samoan Spike for the double pinfall victory.
*Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] d. The Blue World Order [Stevie Richards & Nova] w/The Blue Meanie by Pinfall to Win the ECW World Tag Team Titles JTG and Shad Gaspard had debuted in early August on ECW television as a pair of hoodlums known as Cryme Tyme. The fun loving gangstas had been undefeated in tag team action, and had won a match against Danny Doring and Roadkill on ECW on SciFi just before Barely Legal to earn a shot against the BWO for the ECW Tag Titles. Nova controlled much of the match over the smaller JTG, but when Shad Gaspard got in the ring, things turned, as he steamrolled over Richards and Nova. The Blue Meanie attempted to get involved, only to be powerbombed through a table, before JTG hit a top rope clothesline on Richards to pick up the win and give the young team the ECW Tag Team Titles.
*Justin Credible & ODB d. Tommy Dreamer & Beulah by Pinfall in a Mixed Tag Match Two old ECW rivals in Tommy Dreamer and Justin Credible had reignited their feud from the dying days of the Extreme promotion in recent weeks, as both men pursued the ECW World Championship. Complicating matters was Justin's adoption of a new valet in the form of ODB, who attacked Dreamer's valet/wife Beulah, leading to this mixed tag match. Dreamer and Credible worked much of the match against each other, with each man evenly matched. However ODB easily bested the non-wrestler Beulah, hitting her with a huge powerbomb that gave her and Credible the win.
*Rob Van Dam w/Sabu d. Test w/Lou E. Dangerously by Pinfall to Retain the ECW World Heavyweight Championship Lou E. Dangerously's would be WWE superstar Test had vowed to defeat Rob Van Dam and take the ECW World Championship to No Mercy the following night, where he would bury it like the "piece of garbage that it is". Van Dam had his old tag partner Sabu in his corner, whom Test had beaten to earn the world title shot in the first place. This proved inconsequential though as, despite Test hitting his Big Boot on Van Dam at one point, Mr. ECW defeated Test by way of a 5 Star Frogsplash in the center of the ring, retaining his title once again. As RVD and Sabu celebrated in the ring, Umaga and Tazz appeared in the entryway, with Tazz signaling that Umaga was coming for RVD's title to close the show.
