Event: AJPW October Giant Series - Day 1 Date: Monday, October, Week 1, 1998 Attendance: 2,000 at Korakuen Hall (NO VACANCY!) Show Rating: 86 B+
The show starts off as per usual with the NTV sports march blasting
In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Nobuhiko Takada defeated Yoshinari Ogawa in 16:03 by submission with a Jujigatame.
Takada won cleanly over the junior as expected, though postmatch he did give him a few unwarranted kicks to the head.
Rating: 80 B
Stan Hansen and Vader have made their way to the ring and are awaiting their opponent, when suddenly the lights are turned off in Korakuen Hall and a single spotlight is put towards one half of the entrance way.
Suddenly a theme begins to play that sends the crowd in a frenzy.
IT'S MMA LEGEND KAZUSHI SAKURABA, SAKURABA IS BACK FROM HIS STINT IN MMA AFTER FINDING SUCCESS THERE!!!
He stands at the entrance way, waiting for his tag partner.
NO WAY, IT'S ANOTHER MMA LEGEND, MINORU SUZUKI!!! SUZUKI IS BACK AND HERE IN AJPW!!!
The two men walk to the ring as the crowd is exploding in cheers for the 2 stars!!! Minoru Suzuki and Kazushi Sakuraba are here in AJPW!!!
In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Minoru Suzuki and Kazushi Sakuraba defeated Stan Hansen and Vader in 13:03 when Minoru Suzuki defeated Stan Hansen by submission with a Sleeper Hold.
Minoru Suzuki carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. Stan Hansen was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.
Rating: 81 B The crowd is still in shock and excitement as Suzuki and Sakuraba leave with their win.
Hansen sits in the ring, defeated for now, a 3rd month straight without a single victory in any sort of match, Vader starts to kneel beside him.
Vader suddenly grabs Hansen and tosses him to the outside with no hesitation!!!
Vader what the hell are you doing, he ripping the padding off the floor!!!
He's pulling Hansen back up, Vader don't do this!!!
POWERBOMB ON THE EXPOSED CONCRETE FLOOR RIGHT TO HANSEN!!!
Vader walks out angry and with another lose to his record, as Hansen is now left without his tag partner, the only thing he truly had left.
In a decent match, Hayabusa and Mitsuharu Misawa defeated Gedo and Tamon Honda in 14:05 when Hayabusa defeated Gedo by pinfall with a Phoenix Splash.
Rating: 81 B
After the match, Hayabusa grabs the mic.
"Ladies and Gentleman of AJPW, at the end of the last tour I said I had a surprise as my next title challenger, and I will make sure of that promise right now, isn't that right, YOSHIHIRO TAJIRI!!!"
Before we know it, the theme of Tajiri is blasting throughout Korakuen!!!
Some of the more smarky members of the crowd begin to cheer for the hot young star as he makes his way to the ring and shakes hands with Hayabusa for giving him this shot!!!
In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Burning (Kenta Kobashi, Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Yoshinobu Kanemaru) defeated Holy Demon Army (Akira Taue, Toshiaki Kawada and Masanobu Fuchi) in 20:14 when Kenta Kobashi defeated Akira Taue by pinfall with an Orange Crush.
Rating: 93 A
Post Match, Kobashi after beating Taue with a big move, is able to compose himself and get ahold of a mic.
"Kawada, Taue, I know I already have the All Asia Tag Team Championships, But I'd like to be a double champion and seeing as how I pinned Taue, I think I am due a shot, what do you say?"
Kawada grabs the mic and looks at Kobashi's seemingly dead eyes.
"We accept, we'll see you at the end of the tour Kobashi and Kikuchi..."
And with the challenge accepted, both teams leave as Kobashi has a new goal in mind!
In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Triangle of Power (Steve Williams, Takeshi Morishima and Yoshihiro Takayama) defeated Sternness (Jun Akiyama, Takao Omori and Owen Hart) in 21:22 when Steve Williams defeated Jun Akiyama by pinfall with a Backdrop Driver.
Rating: 86 B+
Post Match, Steve Williams grabs a hold of a mic after pinning Jun clean!!!
"First of all, Kawada and Taue, I better be expecting a tag title match after you finish your business with Kobashi and Kikuchi, me and Takayama still deserve our due for all these wins we've been puttin' up, but as for this tour, Akiyama, I just pinned you right here in this very ring for the One, Two, Three, and I think that makes me the Number 1 Contender for that Triple Crown Title you got kiddo, so now, you're gonna give me my shot for it and I'm gonna give Kobashi the rematch that Misawa wasn't able too. So good luck Jun, you're gonna need it against me!"
The show ends as the Triangle of Power celebrates in the ring, with them being owed 2 title matches now!!!

Jun Akiyama (c) vs Steve Williams (Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship) - clearly Akiyama is a longer term project, so I expect him to continue his title reign
Akira Taue and Toshiaki Kawada (c) vs Kenta Kobashi and Tsuyoshi Kikuchi (World Tag Team Championship) - The way he's been lately, I think pissed off Kobashi gets another big win
Minoru Suzuki vs Mitsuharu Misawa (Special Singles Match) - I have doubts on this, but it's Suzuki's big singles debut. I think he gets a somewhat shocking win.
Hayabusa vs Yoshihiro Tajiri (World Junior Heavyweight Championship) - I'm conflicted on this too, because Tajiri is a big acquisition for the division (as is the case for my save too). But Hayabusa is your junior ace, so I don't think he falls that easily. I still think Tajiri will beat Hayabusa eventually, but it won't be on his first try.
Gedo and Jado vs Takeshi Morishima and Yoshihiro Takayama - I like this Triangle faction, they're the type of guys I'd make a trios belt for.
Owen Hart and Nobuhiko Takeda vs Kazushi Sakuraba and ??? - Looks like we're getting another MMA boy, who's it gonna be?
Stan Hansen vs Vader - Badass Vader is back and ready for a renewed push

Event: AJPW October Giant Series - Day 10 Date: Saturday, October, Week 3, 1998 Attendance: 16,500 in Nippon Budokan (NO VACANCY!!!) Show Rating: 96 A*
The show starts off as per usual with the NTV sports march blasting
In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Vader defeated Stan Hansen in 14:44 by pinfall with a Power Bomb.
Rating: 75 B-
Vader after gaining a big win, would walk out and Hansen would stumble out after taking a lose to the man who turned on him at the start of this tour.
Directless, no partner for tag league, nothing for Hansen, his emotions overwhelm him as he attacks a few members of the crowd and staff, wrestling his way out of the arena.
This isn't Stan Hansen anymore, this is John Stanley Hansen II, and he has nothing, the top gaijin in Japan now has nothing to show for it...
After Hansen leaves, it is now time for another star to debut in AJPW and to team with Kazushi Sakuraba.
After the other teams enter, the theme of a man most the Japanese audience is accustom to begins to play!
IT'S AKIRA MAEDA!!!
HE'S HERE IN AJPW!!!
He walks down to the ring and shakes hand with Sakuraba and they get ready, soon enough, the match begins!!!
In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Akira Maeda and Kazushi Sakuraba defeated Owen Hart and Nobuhiko Takada in 15:22 when Akira Maeda defeated Nobuhiko Takada by pinfall.
Rating: 79 B
In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Takeshi Morishima and Yoshihiro Takayama defeated Gedo and Jado in 12:30 when Takeshi Morishima defeated Gedo by pinfall.
During the match, Tamon Honda tried to get involved to assist the other members of Sternness, but failed to do so.
Rating: 80 B
In a decent match, Hayabusa defeated Yoshihiro Tajiri in 14:28 by pinfall with a Phoenix Splash.
Hayabusa makes defence number 2 of his AJPW Junior Heavyweight title.
Him and Tajiri shook hands after the match.
Rating: 73 B-
In an exceptional match, Minoru Suzuki defeated Mitsuharu Misawa in 22:32 by pinfall with a Gotch-Style Piledriver.
Rating: 98 A*
After the match, Suzuki grabbed the mic and looked around, smirking to himself as he began to speak.
"Akiyama or Williams, whichever one of you win that title match tonight, just know that I'M your next opponent. Good Luck boys." In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Holy Demon Army defeated Kenta Kobashi and Tsuyoshi Kikuchi in 29:30 when Toshiaki Kawada defeated Tsuyoshi Kikuchi by pinfall with a High-Angle Power Bomb.Holy Demon Army make defence number 2 of their AJPW Unifed Tag Team titles.
During the match, Kobashi would do whatever in his power to save Kikuchi and in all honesty, his emotions probably cost them the titles as he needs Kikuchi more then anymore.
Kobashi cried that he wasn't able to save his friend and had to be forced out of the arena as Kikuchi was helped out by the other members of Burning.
Rating: 95 A*
In an exceptional match, Jun Akiyama defeated Steve Williams in 28:30 by stoppage when Steve Williams could not continue. Jun Akiyama makes defence number 2 of his AJPW Triple Crown title. Rating: 97 A*

This looks like an exciting lineup. What time of the year is the biggest AJPW annual show? Their equivalent to Wrestle Kingdom, if you will.
