The Week Zero of the college football season featured some surprising upsets and thrilling finishes. Here is a brief report on three of the most notable games from Week Zero, along with the updated Top 6 Rankings:
- Tulane def. #4 Ole Miss 56-50: In a high-scoring shootout, the Green Wave stunned the Rebels with a last-minute touchdown pass from quarterback Michael Pratt to receiver Jha'Quan Jackson. Pratt threw for 367 yards and four touchdowns, while Jackson had 10 catches for 173 yards and two scores. Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral also had a big day, passing for 443 yards and five touchdowns, but he threw two costly interceptions that helped Tulane pull off the upset.
- Rhode Island def. Army 15-14: The Rams pulled off a rare win over an FBS opponent, thanks to a gutsy two-point conversion attempt in the final seconds. Trailing 14-13, Rhode Island scored a touchdown on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Kasim Hill to tight end Caleb Warren. Instead of kicking the extra point, the Rams went for two and Hill found Warren again in the end zone for the winning score. Army had a chance to win the game, but missed a 42-yard field goal as time expired.
- Yale def. Tulsa 18-12: The Bulldogs made history by beating an FBS team for the first time since 1986, and snapping a 19-game losing streak to FBS opponents. Yale's defense was the key, holding Tulsa to just 237 yards of total offense and forcing four turnovers. Yale kicker Sam Tuckerman made four field goals, including a 51-yarder in the fourth quarter that gave the Bulldogs a six-point lead. Tulsa had one last drive to try to win the game, but Yale linebacker Noah Pope intercepted a pass at the Yale 25-yard line to seal the victory.
