Hey all. I thought this would be the right place to drop this message. But if I am in the wrong place just let me know. I am doing RnD on a potential multiplayer promotion game and I am looking to get an idea of interest, feedback and potential discussion. A proof of concept has been created and initial work on the match writing engine has been set up but we have decided to take a little step back, assess the landscape and ask the audience if this is something that people want or would have any interest in before we take this to the next level. So, my main question is this…. Do players play these games because of the mods to play real world scenarios and fantasy booking? Or are there players out the who like to play with original characters? The idea of our game is that you run your own territory. We have a universe of talent from different parts of the world (fictional) and the idea is to get your territory to be the number 1 promotion in the world. The game would be played online with players biding for the number one slot in their region, country, etc… and the universe would be a living breathing entity with potential co-op (or wars) with other promotions. It would be great to know what your thoughts are and if any interest is out there for playing games with original characters.

Including a editor for creating fan made real world mods and other fantasy mods will attract more players. Yeah that is what I figured as I know modding is a huge part of the scene. However, for our project the idea was to have one shared database which is online that players connect to upon starting the game. With the nature of the beast modding would not be possible as everyone would be using the same database. This would have obvious drawbacks in terms of modding but would allow for a living breathing shared universe which bookers can build relationships with talent offer contracts etc and a lot more. It would also allow us to let the universe evolve. Planning on a day in the real world being an equivalent to a week in the game world. Meaning talent will retire and new talent would build up their reputation. And we were planning on a dedicated website that would use the database to showcase player promotions and publish reports on cards that are put together and booked by the player. I hope this makes sense. I know thus is a little different to the way these things work but we are hoping different is a good thing.

Just thought I would give the thread a quick bump.
After the feedback I had from this (and several) forums I decided to switch focus on this game. Although I thought the multiplayer live world was a good idea in theory, I simply don't think the interest was there for people to want to play it, and what use is a live game if no one is actually playing in it?
So, I switched direction with the game. I was ablwe to use some of the code I had originally written so not all was lost and I am now focusing on creating a match/show generator. My aim is to provide fully written shows and I want someone to read it and think it is a hand-written piece of work rather that generated by a computer.
Now I have taken feedback about modding into consideration and I am trying to make this as fully customisable as possible, giving the option to create custom rosters, shows, and eventually custom matches, along with custom commentary files and custom angles.
It is still a work in progress as it is something I work on in my spare time but just a heads up at the state of play.

Another Update.
Not sure how often this gets read or what/if anyone has interest in this but thought it would be worth dropping a note.
I have been working on creative options. I have pertty much finished the 'Create a Worker' section. This has thrown a few new extra options that I thought had potential, which in turn has made my creative suite seem a little daunting. However, I think this will be ultimately better and it will allow for much more creativity for users and give more unique experiences/storylines. These include 'Create A Weapon' and 'Create A Sign'.
A quick question.... Does more creative options/modding a general appeal to play these types of games. Also When creating Mods, is it the more options the better?

A good editor and lot of options usually is what is needed to get a active modding community. Those sims/games without editors usually don't result in a large and active community.

Just thought it was about time I had a little update on this game.
I have been working on the implementation of championships and other worthy title wins. The ability to create championships is a no brainer but I am looking at giving the titles priorities, so having a primary and secondary belt etc, also having the ability to assign a championship to a custom division within the promotion eg cruiser weight division would have the cruiser weight title which would be classed as the premier title within that division and treated as such but would not be the premier title of the promotion.
Also looking at options for a trio titles and stable titles? And match specific titles like exclusive titles for cage matches submission matches etc.
What kind of titles would anyone like to see? Any comments or suggestions just let me know!

Besides the ones you already mentioned, tournaments, leagues and battle royals.

Will there be alliances and alliance titles? Working agreements and co-hosted shows? Can you takeover other territories?
