AJ STYLES SAYS GOODBYE TO WWE
They say anything can happen in professional wrestling and it usually does, but sometimes events unfold that you never quite expect.
That can be applied to the news hitting the feed early this morning that AJ Styles has parted ways with WWE after 6 years working for the sports entertainment juggernaut.
Very little information has become available regarding the situation although we’re sure more will be revealed over the coming days and weeks.
Before joining WWE in January 2016 AJ Styles had a “phenomenal” career, first as the face of NWA:TNA and Impact Wrestling where he was a 5-time World Champion and 6-time X-Division Champion. Then in 2014 he would cross the Pacific to join New Japan Pro-Wrestling where he reinvented himself and revitalised his career, becoming a 2-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion in the process.
SUMMER STRUGGLE POST-SHOW PRESS JUNKET DRAMA, CHALLENGES MADE
Following a massive night of Summer Struggle in Osaka things continued to explode as we went off the air and the stars of New Japan made their way to the always controversial press area where reporters were ready to collect their scoops.
One moment of drama happened moments after the IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay made his way to the back after his team's losing effort to Los Ingobernables de Japon. “The Kingpin” was mid-interview with Tokyo Sports when his time was crashed by one of his oldest foes in Zack Sabre Jr. of Suzuki-gun. Immediately heated, ZSJ laid out a challenge to Ospreay on account of being the only man to beat him during this years G1 Climax, however Zack wasn’t just after his US Title - he also wanted the RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship. Ospreay brashly told him he couldn’t stand to be in the ring with Zack once, let alone twice, which pushed Zack to go for broke and suggest a two-fall match - the first fall for the RevPro Championship, the second for the IWGP US.
The press junket also saw Juice Robinson of Bullet Club running his mouth off again, but this time he was running down Hiroshi Tanahashi after “The Ace” crushed his ribs with a High Fly Flow. Tanahashi just happened to be in earshot as the foul mouth tirade left Juice’s tongue and seeing as “The Ace” is never one not to defend himself, he challenged Juice to put his money where his mouth is and face him one on one.
We’re sure all these developments will factor into the cards being announced for the second leg of the Summer Struggle tour, which NJPW1972.com expect to receive imminently. Watch this space!
