AWWA Global Open Championship – V1
Akira Taue © [AJPW] vs. Big Bossman [WWF]
Big Bossman showed his authority stopping a post-match attack by Masanobu Fuchi on Kazuo Yamazaki on the B1 show. Immediately after, he challenged Akira Taue for the new AWWA Global Open Championship, being the first WWF superstar to do it.
The two big men clashed and Bossman was able to showcase some of the agility that he doesn’t regularly show in WWF. Although not mesmerized, the AJPW audience liked seeing the challenger taking Taue to the limit. Part of said audience was really on Bossman’s side.
However, Taue managed to retain the silver belt with an impressive Nodowa Otoshi (Chokeslam) to a bigger man.
Result: Akira Taue over Big Bossman --- Still champion! --- 16 min.

AJPW Unified World Tag Team Championship – V1
Miracle Violence Connection © vs. The Fantastics
Rare are the times in which a team as skilled as The Fantastics are seen as the underdogs. But against Steve Williams and Terry Gordy, who isn’t? It was a match of technical prowess vs. brute force, with the champions starting off strong once again, showcasing the roughness that made them famous.
A Rocket Launcher to the outside by the challengers temporarily shook Gordy, making the match a 2-on-1. However, when Gordy got back to the ring, the tables turned once again. Legal, while Williams took care of Fulton, Gordy finished Rogers with the Powerbomb to retain the belts in a great match.
Result: Terry Gordy over Tommy Rogers --- Still champions! --- 17 min.
AJPW Recap from the Road:
So far, the #1 Contender to the Triple Crown, Mitsuharu Misawa, has been involved in the ring with Stan Hansen ever since New Year’s Clash. They’ll meet in February 21st in the first Triple Crown Special and Misawa is winning 2-1 in tag matches in the Road To. After the last meeting, Stan Hansen teased hitting Misawa with a Western Lariat after seeing his team take a loss. He was only fooling the challenger, but the spark only grew.
Curiously, Naoki Sano has been a factor. The former SWS and UWFi star debuted in-ring teaming with Stan Hansen against Super Generation Army and he fumed at Hansen when the champion didn’t tag him in to pick up the win. They both were on the same team in Team Spirit #1, and they ended up losing.
Big Bossman was the first WWF star to challenge for the AWWA Global Open Championship. Losing to Akira Taue, the challenger first appeared to establish some order as Masanobu Fuchi locked Kazuo Yamazaki in the STF, at Puro Series B1.
In the next show, Yamazaki tried to ignore the World Jr. Heavyweight Champion’s post-match attack and offered to shake Fuchi’s hand. Fuchi denied and war is on. The thing is: Kazuo Yamazaki is 3-0 down in tag action against the champion, despite being the next official challenger.
