Full-Show Recap
1. Johnny Ace & Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Masayoshi Motegi & Satoshi Kojima
The next challengers for the Unified World Tag Team Championships had some easy opposition: two young wrestlers. Unsurprisingly, Ace pinned Motegi for the win following an Ace Crusher, proving last week’s win wasn’t his last in AJPW. Will this one be?
- Ace > Motegi (Ace Crusher) --- 5:46
- Rating: 61
»» After the match, Giant Baba came to the ring to explain the reason behind the previous match: Baba told the AJPW fans that in 1993 more input is going towards young wrestlers, as they will be called ‘Projects’ from now on. There will be some news regarding young talent soon.
2. Al Perez & Giant Warrior & Naoki Sano & Richard Slinger vs. Dan Kroffat & Doug Furnas & Dean Malenko & Kazuo Yamazaki
The champions also passed their test while teaming with two Jr. Heavyweights fed on the desire to get some revenge on Sano. Malenko and Yamazaki beat him up, effectively putting him offside, making his team substantially weaker. Malenko made Slinger submit with the Texas Cloverleaf.
- Malenko > Slinger (Texas Cloverleaf) --- 11:29
- Rating: 68
»» It was announced that tomorrow, at Power Clash, there will be a six-man tag team match: Naoki Sano and The Fantastic Bruisers vs. Dean Malenko, Kazuo Yamazaki and… ‘Dr. Death’ Steve Williams, who will substitute the injured Jackie Fulton in the bout.
3. Chris Youngblood & Mark Youngblood [The Youngbloods] vs. Giant Kimala & Haku [Savage International]
Kimala went to the match with a broken jaw. However, he wouldn’t be the only guy leaving the ring with an injury, as Chris Youngblood broke his neck in the later stages of the match in a move he took from Haku. He went on to be pinned by a Running Big Splash after a dominating display by Savage International.
- Kimala > Chris (Running Big Splash) --- 10:40
- Rating: 52
4. Jumbo Tsuruta & Satoru Asako & Yoshinari Ogawa [Tsuruta-gun] vs. Mighty Inoue & Fire Cat & Octagon
Tsuruta is still some steps above everyone else in this match, we could see that, even though Ogawa, Octagon and Cat performed very well… until Fire Cat also got injured of course. He had a neck strain, but he’ll be fine.
Octagon was close to submit Asako, but Ogawa saved Tsuruta-gun. A few moments later, Tsuruta ragdolled Inoue before pinning him with a Backdrop Driver.
- Tsuruta > Inoue (Backdrop Driver) --- 12:36
- Rating: 52
5. Akira Taue & Terry Gordy & The Gladiator & Masanobu Fuchi vs. Eddie Gilbert & Toshiaki Kawada & Gran Hamada & Ultimo Dragon
Tsuruta-gun was really on fire! In an amazing match, the feud of Taue and Gilbert was given time to cook, with Gilbert looking far more capable than when close to facing Williams or Misawa in the previous months. The feud between The Gladiator and Kawada over the National Openweight Championship… that one is already on fire… so they went on to brawl all over the ringside for the majority of the second half of the match, yet again.
Hamada and Ultimo, who will clash over the World Jr. Heavyweight Championship continued to get along, but Ultimo couldn’t avoid Hamada’s defeat, after a cheap shot by Fuchi set him up for two Powerbombs by the much bigger Gordy.
- Gordy > Hamada (Powerbomb x2) --- 17:07
- Rating: 80
»» Before the main event pitting AJPW against UWF-i, it was announced a tag team match envolving two men from each company will take place tomorrow at Power Clash: it's going to be AJPW's and The Outlaw Stable's The Funks vs. UWF-i's Bob Backlund and Gary Albright.
Special Elimination 10-Man Tag Team Match
6. Bob Backlund & Gary Albright & Nobuhiko Takada & The Great Kabuki & Yoshiaki Yatsu [UWF-i] vs. Dory Funk Jr. & Kenta Kobashi & Stan Hansen & Steve Williams & Terry Funk [AJPW]
Ah! The Special Elimination 10-Man Tag Match made a special return for the feud between AJPW and UWF-i. It delivered, for sure. Things looked sour for AJPW when early on, Takada’s Cross Armbreaker, which at some point looked like it would indeed break the veteran’s left arm, submitted Dory Jr.
But then, Steve Williams and Kenta Kobashi took charge of the action and, in some minutes, eliminated both Yoshiaki Yatsu (Williams’s Doctor Bomb) and the Real World’s Heavyweight Champion, The Great Kabuki (Kobashi threw him over the top rope). Sadly, Albright entered the ring, running over Kobashi and hitting some big moves before sending him to the same place, eliminating him.
The match entered a cool-down period up until both veterans left met each other: Terry and Backlund went technical before they went crazy. Backlund avoided Funk’s fists by going to ringside and Funk followed. The two brawled, getting counted out: it was now 2-to-2, as Hansen and Williams defended AJPW from UWF-i’s Albright and Takada.
The two leaders and the men that will main event Power Clash stepped up. Takada and Hansen fought their own game, leaving us with a preview of the night after. But in a match where eliminations can occur by sending one over the top rope, Hansen had the edge: he stunned Takada before he hit a huge Lariat to eliminate him as the crowd erupted. Once again, Albright took revenge, running over yet another victim, throwing Hansen with a huge Saito Suplex before eliminating him, making him fall at Takada’s feet.
Albright vs. Williams was the match’s climax, and for some six/seven minutes, the two wrestled, making an arrangement to commit not to try to eliminate the final man via an over the top rope throw. It felt like amateur wrestling at some point, and the two excelled in that game. ‘Dr. Death’ got a little edge over Albright, surprising him with a Backdrop Driver that won the match for AJPW.

1. Dory Funk Jr. [AJPW] (by Takada – submission)

- Final elimination: Williams > Albright (Backdrop Driver) --- 27:11
- Rating: 81
»» After the match, Stan Hansen joined Steve Williams in the ring, showing respect to the man who made AJPW victorious tonight. Others joined, such as the rest of the AJPW participants in the match, Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, Can-Am Express, Dean Malenko, Ultimo Dragon and some of the veterans.
No matter what happens tomorrow, tonight AJPW stands tall.

Weekly Recap
»» WWF – January 21st: WWF held the Royal Rumble and the winner was… Ric Flair! In fact, he became a two-time winner after doing it in 1992 as well. The main event, however, was The Undertaker vs. Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship, in which ‘The Deadman’ retained.
»» WWF – January 23rd: The All-World Wrestling Alliance is officially over. There wasn’t much interest from AJPW or WWF and the ‘Federation’ exited AWWA by its own feet. RIP AWWA. Thanks for the memories.
