Terry Gordy © [AJPW] vs. Owen Hart [WWF]
Owen Hart was the challenger for Terry Gordy’s fourth title defense. More a filler than anything, the two fought in a decent styles clash type of match, although Gordy was not the ideal partner for Owen to showcase his technical prowess.
The match ended after a Backdrop Driver, and ‘Bam Bam’ is still champion!
Result: Terry Gordy over Owen Hart --- Still champion! --- 11 min.

AWWA Global Open Championship – V5
Terry Gordy [AJPW] © vs. Jake Roberts [WWF]
For 12 minutes, the contrast between Terry Gordy’s brute force and Jake ‘The Snake’s intelligence. Damien stayed in the bag while Roberts “played chess” with a bigger man and the fans, slowly, began to understand that Roberts was the biggest threat to Gordy’s reign yet.
Then… the whole thing bombed. The AJPW fans hate non-clean finishes, so they hated to see Terry Funk spoil the match: Funk came to the ring with a cowbell in hand, and hit Roberts’ shoulder to end the match, via DQ.
Result: Jake Roberts over Terry Gordy – via DQ --- Gordy is still champion! --- 13 min.
»» After the bell, Terry Gordy was too unbothered to stop Terry Funk’s attack, so Funk hit Jake Roberts one time more with the cowbell, bloodying him before hitting a definitive Piledriver.
Then, Funk grabbed a mic: «Oh, Jake… for years now you’ve been dubbed one of the meanest around. One of the toughest too. And you can be the meanest, the toughest, and the hardest nail to bite in the WWF! But once you step into this ring, you have to know, Jake, that description can only fit one man… and that’s this old man right here: Terry Funk!»
So, Funk laid the challenge: «You pinned me a month ago and I give you that… but that moment prompted me to do this and to issue a challenge you cannot refuse: Jake… at Summer Stardom, it’s going to be me and you… under my rules: Texas Death Match!»
The Show's Ending:
»» The main event was a very special Eight-Man Tag Team Match, ending with the victory of Akira Taue, Jumbo Tsuruta, Stan Hansen and Steve Williams over Johnny Ace, Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada. Then, the winners jumped on the fan favorites and Terry Gordy joined the fray, leaving Kobashi, Misawa and Kawada in numerical disadvantage.
Plus, Ace, who suffered the pin after a stiff Lariat, was pretty much knocked out. As the rest of the men brawled all the way to the back, Taue and Tsuruta were beating Ace in the ring freely… until: shockingly, ‘Real American’ began sounding in the arena, making Taue and Tsuruta stop immediately. Hulk Hogan is in All Japan Pro Wrestling for the first time ever!
Taue displayed more guts than brains, running towards Hogan who was on his way to the ring, eating a Big Boot! In the ring, Hogan and Tsuruta had a very intense staredown as Hogan ripped the 5487th shirt of his career. Wisely, Tsuruta retreated. Does this mean… can it be? Will Hulk Hogan team up with Johnny Ace at Summer Stardom?
Note: as soon as I pressed the 'Start the Show' button I knew it would be a mess and have such a low rating due to the ammount of non-wrestling time. I got bummed for real as I thought the show would rock (and it would if I had adjusted the timings just a little bit) despite the bullsh*t finish in the title match which I knew would anger the fans.
AJPW Recap from the Road:
The Summer Stardom card is now shaping up and the main event is heating up. Despite losing in the last multi-man tag team match (June 21st), Mitsuharu Misawa is riding a wave of momentum and looks more ready than ever to challenge for the Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion. The problem is: Stan Hansen never looked grumpier and meaner, which means the title match will probably be one for the ages!
Challenger after challenger, Terry Gordy has dealt with them all, in what comes to singles competition. In tag team action, the Miracle Violence Connection look really dominant since unifying the Tag Team Championships. But they are yet to face a duo so legitimate as Kenta Kobashi and Toshiaki Kawada, their challengers at Summer Stardom. At the last show (June 21st), Steve Williams quit being the calmer member of the team, attacking the challengers for the first time.
Tsuruta-gun may be biting more than they can chew. Masanobu Fuchi is the challenger for the World Jr. Heavyweight belt and the junior part of the faction is no shy of attacking both Naoki Sano and, now, Ultimo Dragon, who was attacked by Yoshinari Ogawa on June 21st. As for the heavyweights, oh brotherrrr! At the June 10th show, Johnny Ace prevented an attack on Naoki Sano, so he became a target of both Akira Taue and Jumbo Tsuruta. Four days later, Ace was brave enough to challenge both men for a tag team match at Summer Stardom, despite not having a partner. He now has one (apparently), and what an ally it is! Hulk Hogan saved Ace on June 21st and he’s probably teaming up with the gaijin at the marquee event.
Is AJPW about to get hardcore? Probably. Terry Funk didn’t take lightly the fact that Jake Roberts pinned him on May 21st. So, one month later, Funk took matters to his own hands and, with the help of a cowbell, spoiled Roberts’ chances of winning the Global Open Championship. After the attack, the Texan veteran laid the challenge for a Texas Death Match. ‘The Funker’ and ‘The Snake’ are scheduled to a fight at Summer Stardom to prove who’s tougher.
AJPW has a new face: The Gladiator, known from both Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi debuted on the Jun. 10th show, defeating Rusher Kimura in singles action. From then on, the big gaijin continue to cause impression, being a dominant force in tag matches.
