WWE Summerslam August 17, 2008 Conseco Fieldhouse Indianapolis, IN
*Kane d. The Big Show in an Inferno Match THe feud between former tag partners ended in an explosive match, as both men took part in a dreaded Inferno Match where the object was to set your opponent on fire. The slow plodding match between the giants led to several hard hitting moments, but The Big Red Machine eventually pulled out the victory after hitting a big boot that sent Big Show tumbling to the outside over the flames, catching his back on fire and sending him running to the back as Kane posed in the center of the ring, flames rising from all the sides of the ring.
*Los Diablos del Corazon [Eric Escobar & Ricky Ortiz] d. The Dudebusters [Trent Baretta & Caylen Croft] w/Tyler Reks & The Boom Squad [Kofi Kingston & Colt Cabana] by Pinfall to Win the ECW World Tag Team Titles Both ECW titles were on the line in a pair of triple threat matches, with the ECW Tag Titles up for grabs first. The presence of Tyler Reks on the outside for the Dudebusters proved to help the champions in the early going, but the referee eventually ejected him from ringside to make the match more even. It looked as if Kingston and Cabana would win after Kingston hit Baretta with a Trouble in Paradise, but Escobar and Ortiz intercepted the pinfall, with Ortiz pinning Baretta to pick up the win and regain the ECW Tag Team Titles.
*Vladimir Kozlov & Maryse d. Jeff Hardy & Mickie James by Pinfall A growing feud between Mickie James and Maryse had grown to include Maryse's client, United States Champion Vladimir Kozlov. To counter the 2 on 1 threat, James teamed with Jeff Hardy from Raw in this interpromotional Mixed Tag Matchup. Despite the Extreme Enigma having the best showing against the Moscow Mauler thus far, it would be the women who would decide the match, as Maryse scored the upset over the Divas Champion via a rollup (after using a loaded boot as a weapon) while the referee had been distracted by Kozlov and Hardy brawling on the outside.
*The Colons [Carlito & Primo] d. Cody Rhodes & Manu w/Sim Snuka by Pinfall to Retain the World Tag Team Titles Tensions had been forming within Randy Orton's faction of Legacy, mainly around The Samoan Fight Club and their failure to regain the World Tag Team Titles from the Colons. Orton had ordered a change in the lineup, as he ordered Manu to team with Cody Rhodes instead of Sim Snuka for their title match at Summerslam. The team of Rhodes and Manu, despite being relatively new, teamed well together against the brothers, coming close to winning the titles after isolating Primo and with Cody hitting a huge DDT on Carlito's younger brother. Carlito eventually made the hot tag, though, coming in against Legacy like a house of fire. At one point the referee went down, allowing Sim Snuka to sneak into the ring with the World Tag Team Title belt. Manu held Primo for the hit, but Primo ducked, causing Snuka to hit Manu instead. As Cody looked on in disbelief, Carlito snuck in from behind and hit the Backstabber as the referee came to, picking up the victory and title retention.
*Sheamus d. Finlay & Matt Hardy by Pinfall to Retain the ECW Title The rookie Irishman Sheamus had won the ECW Championship on his first night with the brand, proving to be a formidable foe against everyone put against him. Matt Hardy's rematch against Sheamus ended in the same outcome, with the Irishman winning via a sudden Brogue Kick against Hardy. Sheamus then entered a feud with Finlay, who was targeting Sheamus to try and win his first ever World Title. After Hardy interfered in their match on ECW, a Triple Threat match was set for the ECW Title. Matt Hardy seemingly had the match won towards the end, hitting a Twist of Fate on Finlay. However when he stood up he walked right into another Brogue Kick from Sheamus, who then pinned Finlay and picked up the win without doing the work, barely retaining his title.
*Rey Mysterio w/Batista d. MVP w/Armando Estrada to Win the World Heavyweight Championship Batista had suffered a concussion in his dealings with MVP and his cohorts, Brian Kendrick and Ezekiel Jackson, leaving him unable to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship. Rey Mysterio had won a #1 contenders Triple Threat match on Smackdown to become the next challenger for the title, and for the match Batista would be in his corner to ensure that no interference came from Armando Estrada or his other clients. MVP controlled the bulk of the match, taking advantage of Mysterio's bad knee to ground the high flyer. Mysterio capitalized on a rare top rope move attempt from the champion though and quickened the pace, just as Kendrick and Jackson tried to intervene. Batista cut them off at the bend though, and the ensuing distraction set up MVP for the 619 which Mysterio hit. Rey then hit a top rope splash to pick up the pin and win his second ever World Title, celebrating with Batista after the match.
*John Cena d. Triple H by Pinfall After months spent in each others orbits, Triple H and John Cena met for the first time in a one on one environment, having previously met on in multi-man matches. The build for the match saw it turn into a tense battle for respect from two of the top dogs in the WWE, and was a very evenly paced affair filled with back and forth action. In the end, Triple H went for a Pedigree, but Cena was able to fight out of it and power Triple H up to his shoulders for an FU, which netted him the victory from the exhausted Game. After the match the two men shook each others hand as a sign of respect.
*Shawn Michaels Retirement Segment Earlier in the summer, Chris Jericho had attacked Shawn Michaels on an episode of the Highlight Reel and smashed his face into the "obscenely expensive" Jeritron 5000, badly injuring HBK's eye. After Michaels' had to have a match stopped due to excessive blood loss from this injury, speculation ran rampant on the future of Shawn Michaels in wrestling. Appearing with his wife Rebecca in the ring, Michaels appeared ready to announce his retirement when he was confronted by Jericho. After a verbal sparring match, Jericho tried to hit Michaels, only to accidentally hit Rebecca instead. A reflective but remorseless Jericho then went to the back while Michaels looked on seething.
*Randy Orton d. CM Punk by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship The match between Orton and Punk was initially billed as champion vs champion, until Orton helped his stablemate Ted DiBiase Jr. win the Intercontinental Title from Punk on an episode of Raw. Clearly the underdog against the more heavily favored champion, Punk fought back from underneath and nearly was able to lock Orton into the Anaconda Vise, which might have won him the WWE Title. Orton fought out of the attempted hold and turned the tide with an Apron DDT to take control of the match. The champion set up Punk for the Punt Kick, but Punk dodged out of the way and hoisted Orton up in the air for the GTS. Orton fought out of the hold and tried to shove Punk into the referee. Punk held back, but the distraction allowed Orton to hit Punk with a lowblow and then deliver the RKO for the pinfall.
*The Undertaker d. Edge by Pinfall in a Hell in a Cell Match After footage from Batista revealed to Vickie Guerrero that Edge had attempted to cheat on her with the wedding planner, Vickie decided to punish the Rated R superstar by reinstating the Undertaker to the WWE and booking him in a match against Edge inside Hell in a Cell. The vengeful Undertaker relentlessly assaulted Edge, with the former World Champion trying his best to avoid the Deadman. In the end, The Undertaker won with a Tombstone Piledriver. He then chokeslammed Edge through the ring in the corner before summoning fire from below, engulfing the pit in the ring and seemingly consigning Edge to hell as the show went off the air.

WWE Unforgiven September 7, 2008 Quicken Loans Arena Cleveland, OH
*Finlay d. Sheamus, Matt Hardy, Tommy Dreamer & Colt Cabana in a Championship Scramble Match to Win the ECW World Championship The main gimmick behind Unforgiven was the Championship Scramble match, in which 5 men competed in a 20 minute match and whoever the reigning "champion" was at the end of the match would win the title. All three major world titles were on the line in such a match, with the ECW title up first. The sentimental favorite going in was obviously Tommy Dreamer, as the veteran was looking for one last run as ECW champion. However he would not be a winner, only a spoiler in the closing moments. Matt Hardy had become the interim champion by pinning Colt Cabana, only to be caught by Finlay with a shelaileigh to the head, giving Finlay the interim title. Sheamus hit a Brogue Kick on his fellow Irishman in the closing seconds, but the pinfall was broken up by Dreamer with two seconds left on the clock. This allowed Finlay to escape with the title.
*Ted DiBiase Jr. d. Kofi Kingston by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title Former ECW star Kofi Kingston had made his debut on Raw, answering an open challenge for a non-title match against Intercontinental Champion Ted DiBiase Jr on Raw and then defeating him cleanly. This earned him a title shot against the Legacy member at Unforgiven, and Kingston made the most of his opportunity, nearly winning the title after hitting a Trouble in Paradise early on to the overconfident champion, getting a very near fall. Kingston continued to control the match for the most part, but was eventually undone by the appearance of Cody Rhodes at ringside, who distracted Kingston long enough for DiBiase to turn the tide and eventually hit the Dream Street on Kofi to pick up the victory.
*Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] d. John Morrison & The Miz and Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder by Pinfall to Win the WWE Tag Team Titles The feud between Cryme Tyme and the team of Morrison & The Miz had expanded to include another former ECW alumnus team in the form of La Familia's Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, leading to this triple threat match for the WWE Tag Team Titles. In a fairly standard triple threat match, Morrison and The Miz looked to have the match well in hand after they hit Hawkins with their respective finishers, only for Shad to jump into the ring and lay out everyone with several Drive-By Lariats. JTG then hit The Miz with a Brooklyn Blockbuster to pick up the shock win and regain tag team gold.
*Shawn Michaels d. Chris Jericho in an Unsanctioned Match After Summerslam, where Chris Jericho had "accidentally" hit Shawn Michaels' wife Rebecca during a moment where it looked like the Heartbreak Kid was going to announce his retirement, Michaels had sworn revenge against Jericho. However, due to Michaels' lingering injuries, Raw GM William Regal refused to sanction a match between the two, forcing Michaels to sign a hold harmless agreement for an Unsanctioned match against Y2J. In the early part of the match, Jericho tried his best to reinjure Michaels' eye, slamming his head into the steel steps repeatedly. However Michaels proved to be resiliant against Jericho and refused to give up. In the end, Michaels used a steel chair shot to the head and a slap from Rebecca at ringside to set up Jericho for Sweet Chin Music to pick up the emotional win.
*Rey Mysterio d. Batista, Kane, MVP & The Big Show in a Championship Scramble Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The unlikely World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio faced 4 former world champions in his Championship Scramble match, making him a huge underdog. Mysterio didn't shy away from the challenge, involving himself in many of the falls as the interim title label bounced between the giants like a pinball. In the end it appeared that The Animal Batista would finally be able to recapture the World Heavyweight Title as he hit The Big Show with a huge spinebuster and went for a pinfall. However MVP broke up the pinfall, just as Mysterio dived in from the top rope with a big splash to steal the pinfall. Time then expired before Batista could make another cover, leaving The Animal frustrated with the outcome. Despite this, he seemingly congratulated Mysterio after the match was over.
*The Bella Twins [Nikki & Brie Bella] d. LayCool [Layla El & Michelle McCool] by Pinfall In a standard Divas tag match, Nikki and Brie Bella utilized some "twin magic" (whereby Nikki snuck into the ring and replaced Brie) and caught Layla El off guard, picking up the win via a small package to earn a title shot for their team at Maryse in the coming weeks.
*Vladimir Kozlov w/Maryse & The Undertaker Wrestled to a No Contest The United States Champion had entered a feud with The Undertaker following Summerslam, costing the Deadman a qualifying match to get into the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble Match against The Big Show on an episode of Smackdown. Kozlov justified his actions by saying he wanted to take out "the biggest dog in the yard", setting up this non-title match for Unforgiven. Kozlov had a tougher time dealing with The Undertaker than any other opponent, but seemed able to outwrestle the Phenom. In the end, The Undertaker locked Kozlov in the Hell's Gate submission hold, causing Kozlov to seemingly tap out. However, Kozlov had pinned the Undertaker's shoulders to the mat at the same time, leaving two referees confused as to the outcome. Despite the No Contest, both men continued to fight each other as they traveled through the crowd, security struggling to stop them.
*Chris Jericho d. Randy Orton, Triple H, CM Punk & JBL in a Championship Scramble Match to Win the WWE Championship Jeff Hardy was initially scheduled to be a part of the WWE Championship Scramble Match, only to be taken out by an unknown assailant in the backstage area. To fill out the match, Chris Jericho was added by Raw General Manager William Regal, despite Jericho having been in an unsanctioned match earlier in the night. The main focus of the match was between Orton and Triple H, with them trading the interim title brand between them twice each. In the end, with Triple H as champion, Sim Snuka attempted to intervene on Orton's behalf, only to botch the interference, leading to Orton being tossed to the outside. JBL attempted to hit Triple H with a Clothesline from Hell while CM Punk attempted a diving clothesline, catching the Game off guard and leaving him easy pickings for Jericho to hit a Codebreaker and pick up the shocking win, regaining the WWE title for the first time since 2002 to close the show.

WWE No Mercy October 5, 2008 Rose Garden Portland, OR
*John Morrison, The Miz & Dolph Ziggler d. Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] & R-Truth by Pinfall John Morrison & The Miz were looking to regain some momentum over Cryme Tyme, after having lost the WWE Tag Team Titles to them the previous month at Unforgiven. They teamed with newcomer Dolph Ziggler to take on the champions and their "homeboy" R-Truth in a six man tag. Truth actually came out looking like the star in the match, controlling the pace with his unique style of offense whenever he was in the ring. Miz's underhanded tactics were enough to turn the tide, as JTG was isolated from his partners in the middle of the match. Shad eventually made the hot tag and cleaned house, clotheslining Morrison and Miz out of the ring and leaving R-Truth and Ziggler in the ring as the legal men. After a short exchange, Miz managed to sneak onto the apron and get the blind tag from Ziggler as Truth hit him with the Truthseeker, thinking he had the win. Miz then rolled up Truth from behind and, with a handful of tights, got the sneaky win for his team.
*Legacy [Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase Jr.] w/Manu d. The Colons [Carlito & Primo] by Pinfall to Win the World Tag Team Titles Randy Orton's Legacy stable had been thinned out the night after Unforgiven, as Sim Snuka was unceremoniously booted from the group after a series of failures (most specifically failing to help Randy Orton keep the WWE Title in the Championship Scramble match), which also saw Snuka's Samoan Fight Club partner Manu turn on him as well. A newly formed coalition within the group consisting of Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr challenged The Colons for the World Tag Team Titles, and seemed to have far more luck than any other combination of the group had had in recent months. Despite Carlito's best efforts, DiBiase and Rhodes were too much for the Champions, and didn't even need the assistance of Manu on the outside to eventually pick up the win, as Rhodes pinned Primo following a Cross Rhodes.
*Finlay d. Tommy Dreamer by Pinfall to Retain the ECW World Title After winning the ECW title the previous month at Unforgiven under somewhat dubious means, Finlay was immediately met with the task of defeating ECW veteran Tommy Dreamer to retain his title, losing their match on ECW television via disqualification due to interference from the former champion Sheamus. ECW General Manager Johnny Ace ordered a return match be made for No Mercy, with Sheamus acting as the special guest referee. After a highly competitive match between the two men, Finlay seemingly had the match won with the Celtic Cross, but Sheamus refused to make the count. As Finlay argued with Sheamus, Dreamer then caught him with a DDT. Sheamus started to make the count, but "got something in his eye", interrupting it. Dreamer and Finlay then double teamed the referee, taking him out together, before Finlay grabbed his shelaileigh and KO'ed Dreamer. Finlay then counted the fall with the knocked out Sheamus' hand to pick up the win.
*Mr. Kennedy d. The Big Show by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title The loudmouth Mr. Kennedy had made his return to Smackdown after several months out with an injury, returning in his hometown of Green Bay Wisconsin and defeating Vladimir Kozlov for the United States title (albeit with indirect help from The Undertaker) in a huge upset. A confrontation with The Big Show set up this impromptu title match, with Kennedy competing at a huge disadvantage against The Giant. However the Loudmouth was able to avoid The Big Show's signature offense and, when the referee was distracted for a moment, hit The Big Show with a low blow before hitting the Mic Check to pick up the win.
*Triple H d. CM Punk, Randy Orton & JBL by Pinfall in a #1 contenders Fatal Fourway Match for the WWE Title The four men who failed to win the WWE Title in the Championship Scramble match at Unforgiven competed in a Fatal Fourway match at No Mercy in order to determine who the #1 contender for the WWE Title would be. The two individual feuds in the match, that of Triple H vs. Randy Orton and JBL vs. CM Punk, were how the match largely divided itself for long stretches of the match. In the end, Sim Snuka returned and stuck it to his former stablemate, attacking Orton when he was setting up Punk for a Punt Kick. This distraction allowed Triple H to clothesline him out of the ring and turn around and hit JBL with a Pedigree to pick up the win and earn a title shot at Cyber Sunday.
*Maryse Wrestled Candace Michelle to a No Contest [Maryse Retains the Divas Title] After defeating Brie Bella on Raw, Maryse was confronted by a returning Candace Michelle, who demanded a title match for the championship she had lost nearly a year prior. The French-Canadian was willing to grant her request, but the "match" was interrupted by Maryse's client, the Moscow Mauler Vladimir Kozlov, who was in a foul mood and looking to hurt someone after losing the US Title. Thankfully Michelle was saved by The Undertaker, who appeared suddenly in the ring and attacked Kozlov, resulting in a No Contest.
*Batista d. Rey Mysterio by Referee Stoppage to Win the World Heavyweight Championship To the shock of many, Batista had turned heel on Rey Mysterio following Unforgiven, interrupting a championship celebration between Mysterio and his family by powerbombing the luchadore through a table. Rey's family was at ringside in his corner for this title match, and it become clear that Rey (with injured ribs) was no match for a 100% and angry Animal. Batista repeatedly devastated Rey's ribs, before hitting him with several spinebusters and Batista Bombs. Mysterio refused to give in though, kicking out of every pinfall attempt. By the end, as Batista went for a 4th Batista Bomb, Rey's wife Angie pleaded with the referee to stop the match, figuratively throwing in the towel. Referee Jimmy Korderas agreed and stopped the match, awarding the title to Batista amidst a chorus of boos.
*Chris Jericho d. Shawn Michaels in a Ladder Match to Retain the WWE Championship The feud between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels reached its crescendo in this Ladder Match for the WWE Title. With both men having been innovators in the Ladder Match in years previous, this was a highly competitve match that in the end saw both men playing tug of war over the title. Jericho eventually won the struggle, kicking Michaels from the ladder and hoisting the title high above his head. Jericho looked to further damage Michaels after the match, but Michaels was saved by Triple H running to his D-X teammates aide, staring down Y2J to end the show.

WWE Cyber Sunday October 26, 2008 US Airways Center Phoenix, AZ
*Jack Swagger & Matt Hardy d. Los Diablos del Corazon [Eric Escobar & Ricky Ortiz] by Disqualification [Los Diablos Retain the ECW Tag Team Titles] (Swagger and Hardy were the top two also-run finishers in the poll to choose the next challenger for Finlay's ECW World Title) In keeping with the theme of Cyber Sunday, two polls were held on ECW to determine the challengers for both championships. Dreamer and Sheamus were the top two vote getters in the poll to determine the challenger for Finlay's ECW title, which left newcomer Jack Swagger and Matt Hardy to team together to face Escobar and Ortiz for the ECW World Tag Team Titles. Despite the fact that Hardy and Swagger couldn't work well together, they still nearly managed to pull off the upset. Los Diablos used the ECW Tag belts to get themselves intentionally disqualified, giving Swagger and Hardy the win.
*Sheamus d. Finlay & Tommy Dreamer by Pinfall in a Shelaileigh on a Pole Match to Win the ECW World Title (Fans could vote on if a shelaileigh, singapore cane or steel chair would be hanging from a pole) On the surface it appeared as if Finlay had gained an advantage, as it would be his signature weapon hanging from a pole in this triple threat match for the ECW title. And indeed the Fighting Irishman retrieved the shelaileigh from the top of the pole, attempting to use it on Dreamer and Sheamus. However the former champion Sheamus managed to wrestle the stick away from Finlay and instead used it himself, knocking out Finlay before delivering a Brogue Kick to Dreamer and pinning him to regain the ECW World Title.
*Mr. Kennedy d. Ezekiel Jackson w/Armando Estrada by Pinfall to Retain the US Title (Fans could vote on which member of Estrada Entertainment Enterprises challenged Kennedy for the title). Much to the chagrin of MVP, the fans chose to give a US Title match to the muscle of Armando Estrada's group in Ezekiel Jackson. The big man gave Mr. Kennedy a run for his money, muscling him up and around the ring with great ease and overpowering him at every turn. As Kennedy managed to turn the tide with a springboard clothesline off the second rope though, MVP and Brian Kendrick attempted to get involved. Kennedy chased off Kendrick, who was dealt with by the referee, only to accidentally eat a US Title shot from MVP who was aiming for Kennedy. The loudmouth then picked up Jackson and hit the Mic Check for good measure to retain the title. After the match, MVP argued with Jackson and Estrada, with Kendrick left to try and play peacemaker.
*Melina Won a 15 Diva Lingerie Battle Royal to Win the Divas Championship (Fans Could Vote on if it would be a lingerie, bikini or halloween costume Battle Royal) The Divas of WWE were engaged in a Battle Royal with the Divas Title on the line, with fans having voted on the outfits the Divas would wear in the ring as being lingerie. The battle royal was a standard one, which saw Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Maryse and Melina as the Final 4. Phoenix and James essentially eliminated themselves, with a little help from the Divas champion, who seemingly forgot about Melina in the corner. Maryse's taunting of the Glamazon and Mickie on the outside led to Melina surprising her from behind and eliminating her to regain the Divas Title.
*John Morrison & The Miz d. Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] by Pinfall in a Lumberjack Match to Win the WWE Tag Team Titles (Fans Could Vote on a Lumberjack, Steel Cage or Texas Tornado Rules Match) In a standard title defense, Cryme Tyme defended the WWE Tag Titles against the former champions of Miz and Morrison, with the fans voting on a stipulation of a lumberjack match in order to keep outside interference from happening and to ensure as fair a fight as possible. Despite the stipulation, it didn't stop an attempt from the former champions to gain an advantage, as Morrison went outside to grab the tag title belt while the referee was distracted, only to be intercepted by the face contingent of lumberjacks and forced back into the ring. This nearly cost them the match, as Morrison then turned around into a Drive By Lariat from Shad Gaspard that nearly got the champions the win. In the end though, Miz's craftiness proved to win the day, as a brawl on the outside between Shad and Morrison with the lumberjacks allowed Miz to hit a low blow on JTG before hitting him with the Skull Crushing Finale to pick up the win and regain the belts.
*Cody Rhodes d. Sim Snuka by Pinfall (Fans Could Vote on which member of Legacy Snuka would face between Rhodes, DiBiase or Manu) The cast out member of Legacy, Sim Snuka, was seeking revenge against his former stablemates. While Randy Orton claimed an "injury" was keeping him away from the event, fans could vote between the other three members of the group, with Cody Rhodes winning the fan vote. Snuka came out like a house of fire, quickly overwhelming the tag team champion. However, Snuka's former tag partner Manu would get involved, tripping up Snuka and distracting him long enough for Snuka to walk into the Cross Rhodes, which Cody hit to pick up the victory.
*The Undertaker d. Vladimir Kozlov in a Casket Match (Fans could vote on a Casket Match, Last Ride Match or Submission Match) Fans voted to make the final confrontation between The Undertaker and Vladimir Kozlov a Casket Match to ensure that their would be a winner. The natural strikes from Kozlov kept the Deadman off pace, but neither man could put the other down for very long. Kozlov seemingly had the match won after locking Undertaker in his Rear Naked Choke Hold, but the Phenom got a sudden burst of energy, preventing the casket lid from closing after Kozlov had dumped him in there. Taker then hit a Chokeslam before following up with a Tombstone to put Kozlov away, sealing him in the casket for the win.
*Batista d. CM Punk by Disqualification to Retain the World Heavyweight Title (CM Punk won a fan vote between both brands to challenge Batista for the World Heavyweight Title) CM Punk had far and away won the open fan vote to challenge Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship, but the arrogant (and newly heel) champion had ignored any challenge that Punk presented, dismissing him as a "bug that needed to be squashed like Rey Mysterio was". Batista toyed with Punk in the opening moments of the match, but Punk quickly caught him by surprise with several kicks to the head and nearly locked The Animal in the Anaconda Vise, shocking him. Batista then took the match more seriously, utilizing power moves to slow the match down. Punk was resiliant though and able to fend off Batista's attempts to finish him off. The conclusion of the match wouldn't be known, though, as Rey Mysterio suddenly came back through the crowd in street clothes holding a steel chair. He viciously attacked Batista with said chair, leading to The Animal winning by DQ as security forcefully pulled Rey off The Animal.
*Chris Jericho d. Triple H by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship (Fans could vote between Returning Superstars Jeff Hardy, Edge or John Cena to be the Special Guest Referee) Triple H had earned the WWE Championship match against Chris Jericho by virtue of winning a Fatal Fourway at No Mercy. Fans would vote on which returning superstar would be the special guest referee, narrowly choosing Jeff Hardy over John Cena in the voting. Hardy was quietly subdued during the course of the match, which saw Jericho and Triple H go back and forth for the title. At one point Jericho hit the Codebreaker on Triple H, but only got a two count. Jericho argued with Hardy, pushing him back to the corner, but Hardy pushed back, tripping Jericho to the ground, which let Triple H lock Jericho in a Crossface, nearly getting the victory via submission. Triple H began hitting more signature moves on Jericho, but inadvertantly struck Hardy with a high knee to the face. In the midst of the confusion, Triple H hit Jericho with a Pedigree and got a visible pin on the champion, when he was interrupted by Randy Orton slithering in from the crowd, "miraculously healed" from the broken wrist that had prevented him from facing Sim Snuka earlier. Orton hit the RKO on Triple H, and was chased out of the ring by Snuka before he could do more damage. However Jericho rolled over and made the cover, and Hardy reluctantly counted the 3 count, giving Jericho the win. As the champion demanded Hardy raise his hand in victory, Jeff did so, only to then hit Jericho with a Twist of Fate to the crowd's delight, before saying "That was for Unforgiven" to close the show.

*Rey Mysterio, MVP, Mark Henry, Kane & The Undertaker d. Edge, The Big Show, Chavo Guerrero, The Brian Kendrick & Vladimir Kozlov in a Survivor Series Match The return of Edge to Smackdown had led to a conflict as to who the new #1 contender for Batista's World Title would be. At first Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero (who had forgiven Edge for his infidelities in the summer) made Edge the #1 contender without any consideration to anyone else. This was overruled by Mr. McMahon, who ordered that a 5 on 5 Survivor Series match be held, with any surviving members of the teams gaining a title shot. - The Brian Kendrick d. *Shelton Benjamin d. Mr. Kennedy by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title The self-professed Gold Standard had defeated Mr. Kennedy for the United States title on an episode of Smackdown, leading to this rematch at Survivor Series. In a highly competitve match up, Kennedy nearly had the match won with the Mic Check, but Benjamin was able to get his foot on the rope at the last minute. Kennedy rose in premature celebration, only to have his dreams dashed by the referee. Kennedy was then caught by surprise with the Paydirt from Benjamin, who then pinned Kennedy with the benefit of leverage from the ropes to get the cheap title retention.

*John Morrison & The Miz d. R-Truth & Santino Marella by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Tag Team Titles R-Truth and Santino Marella seemed like an unlikely chance to defeat the team of Miz and Morrison, yet they came close at Survivor Series, with Truth largely leading the team to its near victory over the WWE Tag Team Champions. R-Truth managed to hit the Truthseeker, but in the end that wasn't enough as Morrison eventually hit Starship Pain to pick up the win.

*Batista d. Rey Mysterio & Edge by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship Due to the results of the Smackdown Survivor Series match earlier in the night, Batista was slated to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Rey Mysterio as had been previously planned. Mysterio was far more competitive against Batista in their second bout, using his speed to confound the Animal and avoiding his more powerful offense. However attrition eventually wore down the luchadore, and both men were exhausted halfway through. However, halfway through the match, Vickie Guerrero announced that, despite Mr. McMahon's previous stipulations, Edge would be added to the match, making it a triple threat. Edge came in quickly and tried to take advantage of the situation, gaining near falls on both Batista and Mysterio. The two men set aside their differences to deal with Edge briefly, before Mysterio got an advantage and went to deliver the 619 on Batista. As he did so, Edge speared Mysterio in mid run, taking him out of the equation. However Batista then delivered a Batista Bomb onto Edge to get the pinfall and retain his title.
*Jeff Hardy d. Chris Jericho by Pinfall to Win the WWE Championship Jeff hardy had made his return at Cyber Sunday, targeting Chris Jericho not only for the WWE Championship, but also by claiming that Jericho had been the man to take him out of the Championship Scramble match at Unforgiven back in September. While Jericho denied the allegations, he still made himself more of an enemy against Hardy, attacking his brother Matt on an episode of ECW and leaving him bloodied and hospitalized. Jeff quickly attacked Jericho in their match with reckless abandon, nearly getting himself disqualified. Jericho took advantage of the situation and targeted Hardy's knee, methodically taking apart the challenger. Hardy refused to be pinned, as Jericho eventually grew frustrated himself, taking that frustration out on the referee by attacking him with the Codebreaker. Jeff then had a flurry of offense before Jericho locked him in the Walls of Jericho in the center of the ring. With the official down, Matt Hardy came through the crowd with a steel chair and attacked Jericho from behind, taking out the champion. Jeff and Jericho slowly staggrered to their feet as the ref came too and administered a near ten count, with Hardy eventually hitting the Twist of Fate and overcoming the damage on his knee to hit the Swanton and capture the WWE Championship, much to the delight of the Boston crowd to close the show.

*Tommy Dreamer d. Sheamus by Pinfall in a Career vs. Title Match to Win the ECW World Title The on-again, off-again quest of Tommy Dreamer to become ECW champion reached a potential final stop as Dreamer agreed to put his career on the line for one more opportunity against ECW Champion Sheamus. Despite Dreamer's best efforts, it appeared Sheamus would be able to put Dreamer out to pasture, setting the veteran up for a Brogue Kick for the win. However Finlay came out from the back, distracting the champion just long enough for Dreamer to duck the Brogue kick and then hit the Spicolli Driver for the win, the title, and his career.
*R-Truth d. Shelton Benjamin by Pinfall to Win the United States Title In a standard match, R-Truth took on The Gold Standard for the United States Title. In a surprisingly athletic contest, Benjamin and R-Truth were evenly matched, so much so that Shelton attempted to get himself intentionally disqualified by using the US Title as a weapon in front of the referee. However, this failed as the ref simply ripped the title out of Benjamin's hands, leading to R-Truth being able to hit the Axe Kick followed by the Truthseeker for the win and title victory.
*Dolph Ziggler d. Kane by Pinfall At the Survivor Series, Dolph Ziggler and Kane had crossed paths backstage in a staredown, with Ziggler insulting Kane from afar. This dust up had continued the following week on Smackdown, when Ziggler continued to insult Kane, only for the Big Red Machine to come out seeking revenge. Ziggler then pressed charges the following week on Smackdown, wanting to see Kane committed to an insane asylum. This backfired when Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, who was visiting Smackdown as part of Vickie Guerrero's job review, who rescinded this order, leading to Kane devastating the Show Off and leading to a match at Armageddon. Dolph did his best to try and run away from Kane, only taking the offensive when Kane attempted a clothesline to the outside and missed, seemingly tweeking his knee. Ziggler then targeted the knee and nearly got the win via submission with a Figure-4 Leglock. Kane fought back and went for a chokeslam on Ziggler, but his knee gave out. Ziggler then hit the Zig Zag and got the quick win as doctors attended to Kane's knee.
*Edge, The Big Show, John Morrison & The Miz d. The Undertaker, Mark Henry, Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins by Pinfall The remnants of La Familia, falling apart following Vickie Guerrero being placed on suspension by Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, teamed up with John Morrison and The Miz to take on The Undertaker, Mark Henry and former teammates Hawkins & Ryder in an 8 man tag match. The Undertaker and The Big Show took each other out of the match, largely turning the match into a six man tag for a good portion of the match, before the brawl between the two giants led back to the ring. In the end, Hawkins and Ryder were set to pick up a huge win over their former mentor Edge, when The Big Show was able to break away from The Undertaker long enough to deliver the Right Hand of Doom to both men. The Miz was then there to pick the bones and score the pinfall for his team.
*Gail Kim d. Melina by Pinfall to Win the Divas Title Melina came out for a promo, not having a scheduled match for the Pay Per View. She claimed to be the best woman wrestler of all time, and that no one could compare to her. She issued an open challenge to the locker room for a Divas Title match, which was answered by a returning Gail Kim. Kim dominated the champion and hit a bridging German Suplex to pick up the quick win and regain the Divas Title on her first night back in the company.
*John Bradshaw Leyfield d. Shawn Michaels by Pinfall JBL and Shawn Michaels had crossed paths in the Raw Survivor Series match, with Bradshaw surprisingly eliminating Michaels without any difficulty. On top of that HBK had appeared mostly aloof in the weeks following, leading to a match against Bradshaw at Armageddon. Michaels put forward some effort, outclassing the Texan in the early going, but eventually Michaels got ready to hit Sweet Chin Music before Bradshaw yelled at him to think of his family. Michaels then stopped and delayed, with the delay allowing JBL to hit the Clothesline from Hell on Michaels, picking up the victory. Michaels then rolled out of the ring and sullenly went to the back while JBL celebrated.
*William Regal d. CM Punk by Pinfall to Win the King of the Ring Tournament The King of the Ring tournament had been reinstated, though only on Raw and largely as a vehicle for the Raw General Manager, William Regal to try and prove that he was royally better than the lot of the WWE. Regal greased his path to the finals, where he faced off against an old enemy in Intercontinental Champion CM Punk. At first as if it looked like the fix would be in on Punk, as Regal appointed a special guest referee for the match in the form of his longtime friend and tag partner Dave Taylor. However this was overruled in absentia by Mr. McMahon, who suspended Regal for the duration of the night as General Manager, making the match an even fight. Punk and Regal wrestled a strong match, matching each other hold for hold. The IC Champion was seemingly setting up for the win when the ref went down, signaling for his Go 2 Sleep finisher, when he was attacked by a man in jeans and a T-Shirt, who hit him with a modified DDT. The man was later identitified as WWE newcomer Drew McIntyre. Regal then made the cover as the ref came too and became the 2008 King of the Ring winner.
*Jeff Hardy d. John Cena & Chris Jericho by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Despite achieving his lifelong dream of becoming WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy was still treated as the underdog in this triple threat match against multiple time champions John Cena and Chris Jericho. Jericho was exercising his rematch clause, while Cena had beten Jericho on Raw to earn his way into the match. With the normal triple threat rules in effect, Hardy was clearly at a disadvantage. Yet he took advantage of the fact that Cena and Jericho were seemingly more concerned with each other than with him. Cena though appeared to have the match won after locking an arrogant Jericho in the STF, attempting the submission win. However Hardy broke up the submission hold with a frenetic Swanton Bomb onto both men, rolling Cena out of the way and then pinning Jericho to retain the title.
*Batista d. Rey Mysterio in a Hell in a Cell Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship Following the triple threat match at Survivor Series, The Animal Batista claimed to be done with Rey Mysterio after the luchadore challenged the World Heavyweight Champion to one more match. After some consideration though, Batista agreed to grant Rey one more title match, but only if Rey would agree to a Hell in a Cell stipulation, so that Batista could crush Mysterio like "the ant that he was." Despite pleas from his family, Mysterio agreed, setting up the main event. Batista came to the cell determined to end Mysterio's career, but Rey treated the match like a street fight, forgoing his colorful outfits for a more down to earth jeans and t-shirt approach and attacking The Animal with the utmost ferocity. Batista was busted open by a chair shot to the head at one point, but the blood on his face only seemed to rile up the champion even more. Despite Rey's perseverence, eventually Batista finished him off with a Batista Bomb onto steel steps, finally ending the match and retaining his title in a hard fought victory.
