Wrestling News and Notes for the Week - December 30, 1997
STING STOPS HOLLYWOOD HOGAN'S REIGN - At Starrcade for the first time since 1993, Sting has finally won the WCW Championship over Hulk Hogan in a clean finish. WCW Officials have stated that Sting will lead 1998 into the new year as the WCW Champion. WCW officials do expect Sting to have a lengthy title run.
HOGAN NOT HAPPY WITH WCW? - There are reports stating that Hulk Hogan is not happy with WCW. Hogan has not been happy with WCW since WCW wanted Hogan to drop the title to Sting at Starrcade. WCW had promised Hogan a long run with the title through the Spring or Summer of 1998. But it looks like it will not be the case. There are talks that Hogan and Bischoff are at odds with each other. Hogan has not been happy at all about it, but he wants to provide for WCW in the best way he can and have his WCW Title Rematch soon enough.
BRET HART SET FOR MAJOR PUSH IN WCW? - At WWF's Survivor Series. Bret Hart was screwed in Montreal by Shawn Michaels & Vince McMahon after he signed onto WCW. Vince feared that the WWF Championship would be taken to World Championship Wrestling similar to what Alundra Blayze did in September of 1995 when she threw the WWF Women's Championship in the garbage. After that, Bret went to WCW and debuted last month, now WCW officials are stating that they wanna give Bret a run and a major push and quite possibly a WCW Title run, WCW officials state that if Hogan is still not happy with his creative control, there are rumours to push Hogan out of the nWo and give new leadership to Bret Hart setting up for a match between Hart vs Hogan.
OWEN HART'S CHAMPIONSHIP REIGN IS EXPECTED TO BE A SHORT REIGN - Speaking of Bret, his younger brother Owen got his feel good moment at Saturday Night's Main Event by defeating Shawn Michaels to win the World Wrestling Federation Championship, after being pushed up to the main event in Late 1993 through Early 1995. Owen got pushed down to the mid-card, but after the Montreal Screwjob, Owen moved up to the main event card and finally captured the WWF Championship that alluded him for a long time, but don't expect Owen's title reign to be a long one, it's going to be a short reign as Owen is expected to drop the belt at the Royal Rumble to Shawn Michaels in the Ladder Match.
MICHAELS TO POSSIBLY TAKE TIME OFF AFTER WRESTLEMANIA 14? - No one can deny that D-Generation X is the most popular brand in the World Wrestling Federation and the leader of the group is of course Shawn Michaels. There are rumours though that Michaels has had some backstage issues in the past, but it seems like his backstage issues are a thing of the past now as he has requested for some time off, the plan is for Shawn as expected to defeat Owen Hart for the title at the Royal Rumble and then drop the belt to the potential Royal Rumble Winner which is being discussed for WrestleMania 14 and then Michaels will take some time off cause of some nagging injuries.
REPORTS ON THE POTENTIAL ROYAL RUMBLE WINNER? - WWF officials are at a stalemate and a decision to see who is going to win the Royal Rumble, It seems like they are favoring Stone Cold Steve Austin & Kane as 2 of the potential top picks. Stone Cold has been on a rise after nearly getting himself paralyzed, despite his paralyzation at Summerslam, his roll has been red hot and he's gained more popularity from 1997 after winning the 1996 King of The Ring. There had been plans for him to become WWF Champion at the start of 1997, but those plans never fell through. And Kane has also been on a rise as well since he was brought to the WWF by Paul Bearer. Glenn Jacobs known as Kane had a gimmick before when he faced The Undertaker as everyone knows it was Unabomb. Jacobs had defeated The Undertaker under that gimmick at the 1993 Survivor Series only for The Undertaker to defeat him in the first-ever buried alive match at WrestleMania 10. But Kane has been on quite the roll ever since defeating Bret Hart, the then WWF Champion in his first match, and also causing havoc on the rest of the WWF Superstars. So WWF Officials want to have either Kane or Stone Cold win the match, the heavy favorite is still Stone Cold Steve Austin although he was close to winning the Royal Rumble last year as the #1 entrant and becoming the first man in WWF History to win the Royal Rumble at that spot. We will find out at the Royal Rumble who will be the winner though?.
