ROH 20th Anniversary Night 1 May 27, 2022 - Sam's Town Live
"The Voice of Ring of Honor" Bobby Cruise welcomes the fans to the first night of Ring of Honor's 20th Anniversary before the action gets underway!
Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman run down the card for Night 1. As they are wrapping up, the following song begins to play throughout the venue...
Steve Corino has returned to Ring of Honor! He joins the commentary table as the show begins.
Blake Christian vs. Lee Moriarty vs. Rey Horus
ROH's 20th Anniversary events kicked off with a three-way match that it was announced would be elimination-style! This match was packed to the brim with high-flying action from the get-go. The first elimination came when "All Heart" Blake Christian planted Rey Horus with the 2K1 Driver around the 10-minute mark. Christian and Lee Moriarty did battle for about 5 more minutes until Moriarty was able to finish things off with the Taiga Driver '18!
Winner: Lee Moriarty via pinfall at 15:07
Bear Country vs. OGK
The powerhouse duo of Bear Country have been impressive thus far in ROH but faced their biggest challenge yet as they met OGK in action in the second bout of the night! The match was back and forth between both teams with Bear Country showing they can compete with one of ROH's top teams. OGK emerged victorious with some assistance from Maria who distracted the referee while her husband Mike Bennett struck Bear Boulder with a low blow, which was followed up with their signature "Hail Mary" spike piledriver for the win.
Winners: OGK via pinfall at 9:14
Cameras cut backstage where Wheeler Yuta is being given a pep talk by fellow Blackpool Combat Club members Bryan Danielson and William Regal!
Elsewhere backstage, Daniel Garcia pays a visit to Josh Woods and requests that he not only take Yuta's title but hurt him in the process!
Trish Adora vs. Willow Nightingale
This bout was very competitive as both competitors undoubtedly have their eyes set on the ROH Women's Championship. The match was an intense physical affair and the hardest-hitting match of the night so far! The final stretch of the match saw a few near-falls with Willow kicking out of a pinfall after Adora lambasted her with a Lariat Tubman and Adora kicking out after a pulverizing Doctor Bomb! It was Adora's second Lariat Tubman of the bout that was finally enough to keep Willow down for the count!
Winner: Trish Adora via pinfall at 11:19
After the intense bout between Trish Adora and Willow Nightingale, Nigel McGuinness made his way to the ring.
He announced that unfortunately Suzu Suzuki was seriously injured in a match in her native Japan just two days ago.
Due to Suzu Suzuki's injury, tomorrow's ROH Women's Championship match will now be Athena vs Trish Adora!
Juice Robinson (C) vs. Swerve Strickland The IWGP United States Championship was on the line next as the champion Juice Robinson defended against Swerve Strickland! Swerve's incredible athleticism gave him the upper hand throughout much of the bout, with Juice resorting to underhanded tactics to turn the tide in his favor. Near the end of the bout, Swerve Strickland attempted a superkick, but Juice pulled the referee into the line of fire! Swerve didn't let that distract him and kept his offense up. Swerve planted Juice in the center of the ring with a Rolling Thunder Flatliner, but the referee was still down! Swerve moved to attempt to bring the ref back to life, but out of nowhere a hooded individual slid into the ring and blasted Swerve with the IWGP United States Championship belt!! The hooded individual stood in the center of the ring, looking down at Swerve before removing his hood and flashing a devilish grin...Bullet Club's leader Jay White is here -- and he wasn't about to let one of his boys lose their championship! Juice has made it back to his feet and hugs Switchblade. White leaves the ring just as the referee is recovering and Juice makes the cover... 1... 2... NO! Swerve somehow kicks out! Juice Robinson and Jay White can't believe it!!! Juice grabs Swerve by the hair and forces him to his feet, setting him up for his finisher "The Juice is Loose" but Swerve breaks away and instead it's Juice who gets laid out with a finisher -- Swerve's JML Driver! Swerve covers... 1... 2... 3!! Brian Johnson vs. Samoa JoeThis match was a game of cat and mouse to begin with as Brian Johnson, despite claiming Joe's previous victory over him was a fluke, wanted nothing to do with his opponent! Once Joe got his hands on Johnson, "The Mecca" was subjected to some good ol' fashioned brutality from the "Samoan Submission Machine". Johnson tried to fight back but Joe's aggression was too much for him to counter. Just shy of the 8-minute mark, Joe locked Johnson in the Coquina Clutch and Johnson immediately and frantically tapped out!
Winner: Samoa Joe via submission at 7:59
Minoru Suzuki (C) vs. Eddie Edwards
The ROH Television Championship was on the line next as Minoru Suzuki and a returning Eddie Edwards clashed! Both men tried to one-up the other with their strikes and their grappling in a strong style match worthy of taking place in Korakuen Hall! Toward the end of the match, both competitors exchanged submission attempts in efforts to walk away as the Television Champion. Suzuki decided to ditch the submission attempts around the 16-minute mark and opted for his signature Gotch-style Piledriver to put Edwards down for the count!
Winner: Minoru Suzuki via pinfall at 16:25
The competitors shook hands after the match and Edwards raised the champion's hand in victory!
The judges for our ROH Pure Championship bout are introduced next! Former ROH World Champion... Dalton Castle! Former ROH World Champion and ECW World Champion... Jerry Lynn! Former IWGP Tag Team Champion, former 3-time NEVER Openweight Champion and head coach of NJPW's LA Dojo... Katsuyori Shibata! Wheeler Yuta (C) vs. Josh WoodsIn the semi-main event of the evening Wheeler Yuta put the Pure Championship on the line against the man he defeated to become champion, Josh Woods! Woods showed more aggression as the match started, possibly having come to an agreement with Daniel Garcia earlier in the evening. That aggression was matched by Wheeler Yuta however as the Pure Champion has been training with the Blackpool Combat Club, learning from Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley and William Regal in recent weeks! Yuta and Woods put on a highly competitive match, taking each other to the limit. Both competitors had exhausted their rope breaks by the 16-minute mark, leading to an intense and exciting final 5 minutes. Yuta took a page out of Bryan Danielson's book to win the match, locking Woods into a Cattle Mutilation in the center of the ring!! Trapped and with no rope breaks remaining, Woods had no choice but to give up!
Winner: Wheeler Yuta via submission at 21:02
With the match having concluded, Daniel Garcia stormed down to the ring. He stared down Yuta, making his intentions clear -- he wants the ROH Pure Championship!
The Briscoes (C) vs. FTR
The main event of Night 1 of ROH's 20th Anniversary was a rematch between the 12-time and current ROH World Tag Team Champions, The Briscoes, and their challengers FTR! Their first bout at Supercard of Honor XV ended in a time-limit draw leaving the Ring of Honor fans wanting more -- and wanting a definitive conclusion to this tag team dream match! Both teams went all out as not only were they aiming to capture the ROH World Tag Team Championships, they were aiming to prove that they are the best tag team in the world! This resulted in a tremendous brawl with neither team giving up for just over 40 minutes. It seemed the defending champions were going to emerge victorious as they set up for the Doomsday Device on Cash Wheeler, but Dax Harwood made the save and instead FTR hit their double team finishing move The Big Rig on Jay Briscoe and pinned him to become new ROH World Tag Team Champions!!
Winners: FTR via pinfall at 40:47

I liked the first night, and it felt really good to see some simple things, like Steve Corino returning to commentary. I was definitely not expecting Strickland to win, as I thought you'd keep the belt on Juice's waist with some dirty tactics.
