CMLL Sin Salida 2001 "Lucha de Año Nuevo" Saturday, January 6th 2001 @ Local Large Arena in Mexico City, MX - 10.000 in attendance (SOLD OUT!) 42.362 PPV buys
Everything is ready for the first PPV of the year! Miguel Linares and Adolfo Morales welcome the people at home, going on a quick rundown of the matches that we will see tonight!
OPENER Lightning Tag Team Match - 1 Fall, 10 Minutes Time Limit Mistico y Lizmark Jr. VS NOSAWA y Zumbido
The show opens with this bout, featuring 4 young wrestlers that are willing to prove themselves on a big stage like this. The match is decent at best, but there are some good moments. Mistico, being only 18 years old, steals the show with some incredible maneuvers, but it's his partner who scores the pin for the victory.
Mistico y Lizmark Jr.(O) def. NOSAWA(X) y Zumbido by Pinfall (7:16) Rating: 48%
2ND MATCH Trios Match Los Brazos (Brazo de Plata y Brazo de Oro) y Ringo Mendoza VS Tarzan Boy, Bestia Salvaje y Gran Markus Jr.
VS The World Middleweight Champion Ringo Mendoza partnered with Los Brazos in order to take on three possible challengers. The main focus of the match, in fact, was the interactions between Mendoza and his opponents, especially the younger Tarzan Boy, who wanted to establish himself by pinning the champion. On the other hand, his partner, Bestia Salvaje, already held the Middleweight title once, and wanted to win the match to make a statement and challenge for the belt once more. These motivations brought conflict between the two, and the tecnicos took advantage of the situation, scoring the victory. Los Brazos y Ringo Mendoza(O) def. Tarzan Boy, Bestia Salvaje(X) y Gran Markus Jr. by Pinfall (9:25) Rating: 45%
With Bestia Salvaje being the one who took the pin for his team, he seems now far away from a title shot, meanwhile Tarzan Boy could still make his challenge known. 3RD MATCH 2 Out 3 Falls Tag Team Match Satanico y Silver King VS La Parka y Ricky Marvin
VS Another match featuring a young talent in the only 20 years old Ricky Marvin. The match is decent, and it's more of a brawl rather than a classic Lucha Libre encounter. Satanico and Silver King strike their opponents as soon as the bell rings, bringing them on the outside and beating them around the area, even throwing Marvin in the crowd. The young talent tries to fight off, but gets overwhelmed by a 2 on 1 situation after Satanico knocked La Parka down with a Suplex on the concrete. In the end, Marvin shows a good fighting spirit but it's not enough to stop the aggression of the rudos.
Satanico(O) y Silver King def. La Parka y Ricky Marvin(X) 2-0 by Pinfall (10:58)Rating: 57% 4TH MATCH 2 Out of 3 Falls Special Tag Team Match Mascara Ano 2000 y Felino VS ? y ? (2 Mysterious International Wrestlers)
VS ? y ? Ano 2000 and Felino are in the ring, eager to discover the identities of their opponents tonight.
THE GREAT SASUKE IS HERE! And alongside him there is... GRAN HAMADA!
The two wrestlers wear Michinoku Pro Wrestling tees, representing Sasuke's own company. This is huge!
The crowd was familiar with the two Japanese wrestler, and welcomed them with open arms. The match was decent, with the two outsiders giving a taste of what they are really capable of. In the end, Sasuke got the victory following a Fire Powerbomb on Felino.
The Great Sasuke (O) y Gran Hamada def. Mascara Ano 2000 y Felino (X) 2-1 by Pinfall (10:25)Rating: 54% 5TH MATCH 2 Out of 3 Falls Trios Match Mil Mascaras, El Hijo del Santo y Negro Casas VS Los Villanos (Villano III, Villano IV y Villano V)
VS The match was good, with the Villanos trying to cheat their win to victory, but the tecnicos didn't want any of that and were ready to fight. In the closing moments, on the result of 1-1, Casas was finally able to put his hands on Villano III, but Villano IV tagged in, and was surprised by a La Magistral from Casas.
Mascaras, Santo y Casas (O) def. Los Villanos (X) 2-1 by Pinfall (13:41) Rating: 65% After the match, the three tecnicos stood tall in the middle of the ring. Negro Casas took a microphone and said that, since he was seconds away to pin Villano III, he wanted to face him again, 1 on 1, in a Light Heavyweight Title match!
Villano III accepted the challenge, and went to the back with his brothers. We have a title match set for the future! SEMI MAIN EVENT CMLL WORLD TRIOS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2 Out of 3 Falls Trios Match Dr. Wagner Jr., Blue Panther y Black Warrior (c) VS Shocker, Ultimo Guerrero y Negro Casas (CAMPEÓNES) VS (RETADORES)
In a mostly-decent match, the tecnicos were able to avenge what was done to them on Super Viernes, standing tall against the rudos in what could be described as a mix of wild brawling and eye-catching Lucha Libre action. Dr. Wagner Jr. called it an end after a Wagner Driver to Shocker.
Wagner Jr.(O), Panther y Warrior def. Shocker(X), Guerrero y Bucanero 2-1 by Pinfall (17:22) -- TITLE DEFENSE! Rating: 58%
Even tho they weren't pinned directly, the Tag Team Champions still lost tonight, and Wagner could surely propose a challenge in the near future. MAIN EVENT CMLL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP 2 Out of 3 Falls Match Universo 2000 (c) VS Atlantis
(CAMPEÓN) VS (RETADOR)The crowd was totally behind Atlantis, and the two managed to have a good match, focusing more on the storytelling rather than the actual quality of the match. THE MAIN EVENT:
Primiera Caida/First Fall: The big story of the match focused on La Atlantida, the finishing move of Atlantis, and the champion knew that, if locked in that submission, his reign would have been over. Atlantis tried to apply his finisher on his opponent, but Universo always successfully escaped from the challenger's grasp. Atlantis tried one more time to apply La Atlantida, but Universo reversed it into a Crucifix Pin, scoring the first fall! Segunda Caida/Second Fall: Universo tried to score the second point as soon as possible, but Atlantis was able to fight back. Universo then worked on Atlantis' arms, in order to stop him from looking to apply La Atlantida. The pace picked up from there, with Atlantis diving between the ropes with a Tope Suicida. He then brought the champion back in the ring and signaled for the finisher, Universo once again reversed it in a Crucifix Pin, but the challenger was ready this time, and rolled through, following with a Small Package to even the score! Terciera Caida: A desperate Universo 2000 tried everything in his power to put his challenger down, and decided to use his finisher, the Black Hammer! ONE... TWO... ATLANTIS KICKED OUT AT 2.9! At this point, Universo didn't know what to do anymore. He went outside, reaching for his belt, and then he got back in the ring. He wanted to end the match at any cost, and tried to strike with the belt! NO! Atlantis picked him for La Altantida! But 2000 started pulling Atlantis' mask, almost ripping it off, and he got out of the old... AND HE STRUCK WITH A LOW BLOW!
The referee for the bout, Pompin, called the DQ. Atlantis won the match, but the belt was stolen from him.
Atlantis def. Universo 2000 2-1 by DQ (14:49) -- TITLE DEFENSE! Rating: 60% Universo 2000 celebrated by holding the belt under a rain of boos. He got on his feet, and turned his head to Atlantis once again... he had an idea. He wasn't finished yet! He waited for Atlantis to get up, yelling at him while holding the belt... he tried to strike again! But Atlantis responded with a Dropkick!
The challenger was furious, he picked the champion and knocked him down with a Black Hammer of his own! Atlantis then got in the middle of the ring, preparing for La Atlantida... but Universo got out of the ring right in time, escaping from that maneuver once more! Atlantis stood in the squared circle, while the fans kept chanting his name to show support.

Oh my, I actually won a prediction contest. And a lucha one!
I seriously don't know much about lucha libre before the mid 2000s, and I've always followed AAA more. So this diary is actually very refreshing for me. I'm liking the way you tell the story and your presentation is also very good. I really like that you differenciated the main event from the rest, as it should definitely stand out.
It's a very simple detail but I loved the seemingly fast-paced finish between Negro Casas and The Villanos.

So this diary is actually very refreshing for me. I'm also very new to the Lucha Libre scene, but I enjoy discovering new things while I'm playing, so it's a nice test for me and a way to learn more about the world of pro-wrestling. I'm liking the way you tell the story and your presentation is also very good. Thank you, I really appreciate it

CMLL Sin Salida 2001 Post Show Press Conference
The press room was already full of journalists, waiting for Mr. Lutteroth to come on in. The boss made his way into the press room, reaching his desk and sitting on a chair.
"Good evening gentlemen, I don't usually hold press conferences or interviews, but it's clear that we have some announcements to make, so I'll make an exception for this time." Mr. Lutteroth smiled, there were some pictures taken. "So, before we begin... did you enjoy the show?" There were some good reactions from the press. "I'm glad to hear that. Now, before going on making the big announcement, I need my guest. So please welcome, a wrestler who fought tonight, the Michinoku Pro Wrestling owner, Great Sasuke!" The Great Sasuke made his way into the press room, dressed for the occasion, and sat down beside Mr. Lutteroth. S: Arigatōgozaimasu. L: "It's really an honor to have The Great Sasuke here, back in Mexico, in CMLL, and Gran Hamada, too!" Sasuke speaks, while an interpreter translates his words for the press. S: "I'm really thankful for the opportunity that Mr. Lutteroth gave me, it was good to get back in a CMLL ring. I already fought in CMLL, in 1999 and 1996 if I recall correctly, and also in the UWA, but it's always a pleasure to come back here. It was in Mexico where The Great Sasuke was born, so I feel a connection with this country." The press clapped for Sasuke's kind words. L: "And now, we wanted to talk about our big project, that's been brewing for some weeks now." A big board, covered by a black cloth, is put behind Mr. Lutteroth and Sasuke. The two get on their feet and pull down the cloth together. On the board there is a big logo:
The press start taking some pictures. L: "As of today, we can officially announce that CMLL and Michinoku Pro Wrestling have made a working deal. The two promotions will share wrestlers, titles, but the main goal will be to promote interpromotional cards between the two." S: "And speaking about those... well, we have other news." A second board is put behind the two, while the first is taken away. Once again, Mr. Lutteroth and Sasuke pull down the black cloth. Another logo is now visible: Once again, the press starts taking pictures. L: "On Saturday, February 3rd, CMLL and Michinoku Pro Wrestling will hold their first co-promoted supercard, Gran Premio Internacional. The main focus of the show will be a Single Elimination Tournament in which will take part wrestlers from both companies, and the winner will be crowned the first ever CMLL International Champion!" Sasuke smiles. L: "The title was made to celebrate the deal, and it will be showed to the public for the first time on Friday, February 2nd, on Super Viernes! Regarding the rules, it will be no different from the other CMLL championships, but it will be defended exclusively in bouts pitting two wrestlers from different countries. For example, if a Mexican wrestler wins the title, he can defend it against all wrestlers, expect for Mexican ones." S: "And now, the last news of the night... I'm officially declaring that me and Gran Hamada will be part of the tournament!" The press claps. L: "Well, now everything is out of the way. This press conference is over, I want to thank both The Great Sasuke and Gran Hamada, and also you for being here tonight. And of course, I want to thank all the CMLL fans that watched the show, both in presence and at home. Thank you very much." The press is about to go away, but something keeps their attention high. Somebody has entered the press room and is walking towards Mr. Lutteroth... It's Altantis! The flashes of the cameras bright the room. Atlantis picks a mic and looks at the boss. A: "I'm really sorry to interrupt this, it's exciting news and I can't wait for February 3rd, but there is something I have to get out of my chest." Mr. Lutteroth looks at Atlantis, and he's willing to listen. A: "I was robbed of the title tonight, I should be champion, not Universo 2000. He went low and proved to everyone that I was right, he ain't got what it takes to represent this company. I want another chance, a fair one." Mr. Lutteroth nods his head. Atlantis seems satisfied, and turns to the press. A: "I'll give you another scoop. Universo 2000, next time we meet in the ring, I don't want to beat you, I want to destroy you! I don't want a normal match... I want to face you in a Super Lucha!" He drops his mic and leaves the room, the challenge is made!
After the press conference, we went to a local restaurant that was already familiar with the wrestlers. There was an infectious happiness in the air, it was really a great time. Also, I discovered my unconditioned love for the Mexican cuisine. While I was eating, Blue Panther must have noticed me, since he approached my table and he looked directly in my eyes. He said: BP: "Maybe you are not bad as I thought. Good job." Well, what a way to cap off the day. I actually gained Blue Panther's trust. And like it happened before, this mysterious words from Panther started motivating me for the next shows. I was only at the beginning, but coming back to book a show was more than I could ever ask for. I didn't want to disappoint anybody, especially myself, so I had to keep this good streak going.

I'm a real fan of the gimmick of the International Title (hell, I love all gimmicked titles). Excuse my ignorance, but what's a Super Lucha?

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a Super Lucha? No worries! It's the Mexican equivalent of a No DQ Match.
