FULL-SHOW RECAP>> HEYMAN: “TO THE NETWORK DOUBTING OUR CHANCES OF MAINTAINING ONE TV SHOW: WE WILL HAVE TWO!”>> This episode started with a huge announcement. In the ring, Paul Heyman addressed the New York fans and scared them at first, by saying that in October, Fridays won’t feature ECW on MTV anymore. Would ECW be without a TV show? Of course not. ECW on MTV will retain the 9pm slot. However, it will move to Wednesday nights…
>> …and that’s because, on Fridays, USA and Canada will witness the debut of a brand new ECW show on MTV: After Hours will air at 11:30pm, giving some space for up and coming wrestlers to prove their value.
>> Of course, Heyman had to take a dig at TNN, the network who didn’t believe in ECW in the past couple of years.
>> DIAMOND BODIES: FLAUTING THEM BY TIMES SQUARE>> The Diamond Bodies are not in the arena tonight. One week after winning the ECW World Tag Team Championships, Chris Candido, Simon Diamond and their girls, Dawn Marie and Tammy Lynn Sytch, are strutting around Times Square. The champions acted cockily with the belts on their waists, as they mocked the Impact Players for having lost the titles… and the referee, for how the match ended last week.
MATCH #1
CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & CM PUNK [INDEPENDENT CHURCH] (w/SINISTER MINISTER) vs. DANNY DORING & ROADKILL (w/NOVA)Doring and Roadkill will be in an important contendership match at Anarchy Rulz, but before they had a very tough test in their first match with Nova as their manager. The bout was good, technical with some mild hardcore, specially after Punk got pissed with Roadkill’s fun vibes.
In the end, Punk hit Doring with the scepter and Daniels hit the Angel’s Wings, pinning him while staring at Nova.
RESULT: CHRISTOPHER DANIELS DEF. DANNY DORING – PIN – 7:34
RATING: 45>> MINISTER’S WISH SETS TITLE MATCH UP>> As soon as the match ended, Nova got his clients out of the ring. The Sinister Minister, in other hand, got a microphone. Once again, he tried to lure Yoshihiro Tajiri into joining the Independent Church, clarifying that he has nothing against the Japanese, only against Mikey Whipwreck.
>> Mikey, after being insulted again, came to the ring, confronting the Church solo. Daniels and Punk attacked, but it was all a set up, as Tajiri came from the back, kicking Punk senseless and misting the TV Champion this time. The Church evaded the ring after Mikey got hold of the scepter.
>> Out of the ring, it was Christopher Daniels the one to hold a mic afterwards, challenging Tajiri and putting his own Television Championship on the line next week. Of course Tajiri accepted it.
>> DREAMER: WARNING SANDMAN + HIS LAST ECW MATCH IN NEW YORK?>> We hear from Tommy Dreamer. Not from home, though, as he was backstage alongside Beulah. He targeted Sandman after his claims that he wouldn’t mind hitting Beulah again. Dreamer warned Sandman that if he does it, he’s dead to him and a new, even more violent side of him will be shown at Anarchy Rulz.
>> Then, Dreamer revealed he’s in tonight’s main event. Emotionally, the New Yorker stated that tonight may be his final ECW match in his hometown. So, he’ll give 110% to assure he picks up the win. He didn’t reveal who is opponent is.
MATCH #2
JULIO DINERO (w/ELEKTRA) vs. SUPER CRAZYTwo good Junior Heavyweights at different card levels were given time to work and the result was pretty good. Dinero once again showed he can hang with the best. A chair was used as a prop for some moves and Elektra got too close to action, as she got lucky not being caught by an Asai Moonsault by Crazy. The champion then won with a Crazy Bomb on the chair.
RESULT: SUPER CRAZY DEF. JULIO DINERO – PIN – 7:19
RATING: 55>> JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE CHALLENGER ANNOUNCEMENT (GIBSON SPOILS IT…)>> The moment we’ve been waiting for: Paul Heyman got to the ring to finally announce Super Crazy’s challenger at Anarchy Rulz. However, Jamie Gibson didn’t let the announcement be a pacific one, instead announcing himself as Crazy’s challenger first and ironically thanking Heyman for the opportunity.
>> Heyman was quick to shut him up (well, to try), as he clarified that Gibson is not the actual challenger. The actual challenger is none other than… HAYABUSA! The crowd was on fire for ‘The Phoenix’s return, but that was brief, as Gibson jumped Super Crazy, punching him on the ground before Heyman could do a thing.
>> Gibson then got out of the ring and claimed he’d love to shoot down the dream match before Anarchy Rulz, so he challenged Super Crazy for the title next week. On the floor, the Champion accepted it and called Gibson a “hijo de p*ta”. Tense.
>> I.Q.: THE TWO FACES OF RUIN>> Backstage promo with the Insurance of Quality. Sean O’Haire was the one to talk first, calling out Steve Corino for ruining both his matches last night. Then, the former WCW prospect dared to compare the two, claiming Corino is trying and failing to live his 15 minutes of fame, as O’Haire is only growing into one of the biggest names in the industry.
>> Chris Kanyon had a few words next. He announced himself as Tommy Dreamer’s opponent in the main event and told the ECW faithful he would be happy to ruin what’s possibly Dreamer’s last match in New York.
MATCH #3
BILLY KIDMAN & KID KASH vs. LITTLE GUIDO & TONY MAMALUKE [FULL BLOODIED ITALIANS] (w/BIG VITO)Another pretty good match. Kidman and Kash are definitely not great teammates and the former pissed the latter up by acting arrogantly once again, tagging in at will and showing off more than he probably should, so much that the F.B.I. felt disrespected by Kidman. And Italians do NOT tolerate disrespect. The good bout ended when Guido ducked a Springboard Crossbody and then rolled up Kidman for the 1, 2, 3.
RESULT: LITTLE GUIDO DEF. BILLY KIDMAN – PIN – 8:12
RATING: 57>> KIDMAN EXPLODES>> After the bell, Billy Kidman got to his feet quickly and in Kid Kash’s face. BK blamed him for the loss, as he didn’t bother breaking the pin. Kash laughed and claimed Kidman got what he asked for. BK reacted promptly, attacking Kash violently, even getting a chair from under the ring and crushing Kash’s knee with it. Once again, he played up to the crowd, asking “Is this what you like?”, as he got… hardcore.
>> A LEGENDARY MANAGER COMING TO ECW?>> Weekly meeting between Paul Heyman and Shane McMahon: once again, two men knock on the door and they’re none other than Jerry Lynn and Mike Awesome, the two guys battling for the ECW World Title at Anarchy Rulz. Heyman had called them.
>> Then, Heyman told the two that there are some huge news for them: a legendary manager is interested in coming to ECW… and he has his eyes on Awesome vs. Lynn for the gold, as he might be interested in taking both men as clients.
>> None of them is too keen on the news, frankly, as both of them claim they don’t need a manager to be the ECW World Champion. Lynn added: “… as I will prove at Anarchy Rulz.”; Awesome answered: “You may not need a manager to win the title, but you probably need one to keep it.”, as Lynn’s only title reign was a short one. The confrontation was tense, but that was it.
>> IMPACT PLAYERS: REMATCH CHALLENGE + MCMAHON’S FEEDBACK>> The Impact Players were backstage and didn’t waste the opportunity to lash out on the Diamond Bodies. Francine, Justin Credible (with bandaged ribs, again) and Lance Storm said that the Bodies proved last week that they aren’t able to defeat the Players without shady tactics. So, to keep “those two trashy-looking skanks” (Francine’s words) to interfere once again, the Players want their rematch at Anarchy Rulz… inside a cage!
>> The promo was cut very close to the bosses’ office, as Shane McMahon came out from the door behind the former champions. McMahon told they that he listened to them, and he actually liked the idea, so he made the match official: Diamond Bodies vs. Impact Players in a Steel Cage Match for the World Tag Team Championships!
MATCH #4
CHRIS KANYON (w/C.W. ANDERSON & SEAN O’HAIRE) vs. TOMMY DREAMER (w/BEULAH MCGILLICUTTY)Dreamer received a hero’s welcome in his hometown. The same can’t be said about Kanyon. Psychology-wise, the match was great, pitting moral values against the lack of them, with the leader of I.Q. going back to display some anti-hardcore antics as well as triggering some cheap heat.
The two were toe-to-toe, and even when Dreamer was able to introduce weapons into the mix, such as a trash can and two tables, the match was even, also thanks to Anderson and O’Haire, who provoked Beulah, getting really close to her, but not touching her. That was, however, enough to distract Dreamer, so much that he almost fell victim to a Superkick.
After a bit, the match got to a point when the I.Q. felt they needed to interfere. With a set table, Dreamer was going for a Superplex, but he was ambushed by them. Rescue was quick: Balls Mahoney, Spike Dudley and… once again, Steve Corino ran the I.Q. off the ring, brawling with them into the back. Dreamer did hit the Superplex through the table! 1…2… but no! Kanyon kicked out.
Dreamer was also hurt and took a bit to get to his feet. When he did, he signaled for the Spicolli Driver (through the other table), but as he was getting Kanyon on his shoulders… enter Sandman! Tommy wasn’t aware until Beulah screamed his name, and when he looked, Sandman had Beulah by the hair! He released Kanyon and tried to fight Sandman, but Kanyon prevented him from leaving, hitting him with the trash can and then hitting a Quality Sign (Electric Chair Facebuster)! 1…2…3!
RESULT: CHRIS KANYON DEF. TOMMY DREAMER – PIN – 11:06
RATING: 64>> TWO BRAWLS AT ONCE + DREAMER TAKES REVENGE>> After the match, Balls, Spike and Corino came back. They weren’t able to get to Sandman, as they were chased by the I.Q., but a three-on-three brawl was enough to get Beulah to escape from Sandman. Then, Sandman got into the mix, caning Balls before Dreamer stepped up! The two then brawled. Corino got hold of Sandman’s cane, hitting the I.Q. so the good guys had the advantage: Dreamer had the upper hand on Sandman for once and a table was still leaned on the corner… Tommy got Sandman up: Spicolli Driver! Dreamer closed the show on top, in his hometown! Will it be his last match there?
FINAL RATING: 65
BOOKER’S NOTES:>> Do I really like the name ‘After Hours’? I don’t know. It will air on a late night slot, but it may sound more like a past-midnight show. So, yeah, I do like the name, but I don’t know if it fits. Is it ok?
>> Some more matches announced for Anarchy Rulz, spice added to some other ones, two title matches set for the next show… this is definitely one of the shows that I liked the most, to be honest.
