KID KASH DEF. AMAZING RED – PIN – 5:32
RATING: 46
FULL-SHOW RECAP>> WHO’S CHALLENGIN’ KANYON?... (TAKE TWO)>> Paul Heyman kicked off the show. The fans in New York wanted him to address the World title picture, but in that regard, he only confirmed that the match is indeed happening… and Mike Awesome can’t touch Kurt Angle until November to Remember, and if he does, he should be stripped of the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.
>> Then, Heyman called Chris Kanyon out to the ring again, telling him that he better be ready to announce his match for the big pay-per-view. Kanyon came to the ring, in a suit and with his I.Q. stablemates. Overdressed? Not really, at least he didn’t think so, as he even had a paper with a nice speech.
>> In his speech, sometimes in the third person, Kanyon revealed that he saved the announcement to New York on purpose and claimed that his intention of being the most impactful force in ECW is about to become a real thing “(…) and for that to happen, I know that Chris Kanyon has to step on some of the most impactful wrestlers in ECW history.” Finally, he addressed the hint he gave on After Hours: “The fact is Chris Kanyon is prohibited to go for the ECW World title, and yet… I said Kanyon is gunning for gold… rumors arose: ‘Is he going after the TV title? The Tag Team titles?’… the answer is: no. And you want to know why? Because if Chris Kanyon can’t compete for the World belt… then… F**K THE WORLD BELT! Paul! I told you I’d have everything set: you can thank me for having… Chris Kanyon vs. Tazz!”
>> Heyman doubted Kanyon, but only for a brief time, as the heart rate monitor sound was heard in the arena. Once again, Tazz is in ECW! The ‘Human Suplex Machine’ got to the ring and on Kanyon’s face. Heyman was in disbelief, Kanyon had a defying smile on his face. Tazz grabbed a microphone and said it’s good to be back for some weeks, before taking the FTW Championship off his waist, showing it to Kanyon and asking him: “You want this?!... you ain’t having it! At November to Remember, I’m going to f**k you up!”. Tazz simply threw the mic on the mat and left after patting Heyman on the shoulder.
>> DREAMER CALLS FUNK OUT>> Tommy Dreamer made his entrance for the first match of the night. However, one thing was bothering him: the possibility of Terry Funk assaulting him mid-match like he did during the Battle Royal less than two weeks ago. So, he openly told Funk he was expecting that, so, if ‘The Funker’ is planning to do just that, he should do it before the bell and Tommy won’t fight back. Terry didn’t answer the call out.
MATCH #1
JOHNNY SWINGER vs. TOMMY DREAMER (w/BEULAH MCGILLICUTTY)It’s safe to say there’s no one in ECW colder than Swinger at the moment. Two months ago both had a match and Swinger flirted with Beulah, which cost him the match. This time he thought twice and didn’t, but ended up losing after a Spicolli Driver onto a trash can.
RESULT: TOMMY DREAMER DEF. JOHNNY SWINGER – PIN – 5:11
RATING: 39>> FUNK: HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER>> However, if Terry Funk didn’t appear when Tommy Dreamer called him out, he did show up after the match. Funk got to the ring, but he didn’t want to fight or assault Tommy, no. He had something to say: something very important as we got to know. Finally, Funk explained the true reason for wanting to fight Dreamer at November to Remember.
>> ‘The Funker’s announcement had Tommy in shock, as he told us that November 27th will be his last day in professional wrestling… and that’s why he wants ‘The Innovator of Violence’ in the same ring as him, as his last opponent ever. Tommy felt Terry’s words, as the legend begged: “Tommy… if you look up to me as much as you say you do, please… don’t let this old man’s career die without fulfilling the only last wish I have to fulfill.”
>> Tommy looked touched, but didn’t accept the challenge. He looked in Terry’s eyes, thought about it, but left the ring, seemingly thinking if he should, after all, fight his idol.
>> DIAMOND BODIES IN NEW YORK… WANNA GUESS WHERE THEY ARE?>> Times Square, New York. the Diamond Bodies were there, once again, seemingly in another day off with their babes and the ECW World Tag Team Titles. The champions said they were going to treat themselves, and that means they won’t even bother to watch the #1 Contendership match between the F.B.I. and the Impact Players. Their point is: whichever team wins will be defeated once again at November to Remember.
MATCH #2 - #1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH
JUSTIN CREDIBLE & LANCE STORM [IMPACT PLAYERS] (w/FRANCINE) vs. LITTLE GUIDO & TONY MAMALUKE [F.B.I.] (w/BIG VITO)The two teams had a pretty good match. There was some bad blood between them, specially after Francine’s interference in the Guido vs. Candido match from three weeks ago. Credible embraced the technical style of the other three participants, Francine was provocative, but Vito was there to impose some respect.
In the second half, Credible brought his kendo stick and the F.B.I. introduced chairs. After seven minutes and something and some near falls by both teams, two guys rushed to the ring: Candido and Diamond, armed with chairs, attacked all four members and Vito as well. For good measure, Diamond also hit Francine with a chair shot that caused a lot of anger in the fans. Of course, the match was called out.
RESULT: NO CONTEST – 7:43
RATING: 62>> DIAMOND BODIES: ONE UP OR A DEATH SENTENCE?>> The Diamond Bodies had tricked everyone, as they weren’t in Times Square for the night after all. Shane McMahon came out to confront the Diamond Bodies, but he was met with laughter by the champions, who told the boss to suck it. Shane warned up, telling the champions they’ve just signed their death sentence, before calling for security to escort them out. Dawn Marie and Tammy Lynn Sytch came out to protest. They were escorted out too.
>> TAKES ON THE UPCOMING TV TITLE MATCH>> The TV Title match was next! Who was Christopher Daniels’ opponent going to be? We didn’t know yet, but Mikey Whipwreck knew exactly who he was going to pull for: whoever the surprise challenger is, as he wants to see the Independent Church losing the only valuable thing they have: the title. “Everything else is rotten”.
>> As for Sinister Minister, he was out of the arena with CM Punk, as they weren’t allowed in for the night, and so was Daniels. The leader of the Church motivated Daniels for his defense, stating that it shouldn’t matter who the challenger is, as Daniels is better, both as an athlete and spiritually.
MATCH #3 – ECW WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP – NO TIME LIMIT
CHRISTOPHER DANIELS © vs. JERRY LYNNIt was ‘The Dynamic One’! Jerry Lynn was the challenger Paul Heyman booked to face Daniels. The match was a very good one and that meant we got two technical-based matches in a row. With someone as skilled as Lynn, Daniels really showed his potential and how great of a wrestler he is. So much that Lynn even nodded giving him props after an early sequence.
Around the middle of the match, we had two chairs being introduced in a duel that saw Daniels come out on top. He stunned Lynn and, from the top, hit a big Diving Crossbody for a two-count. After that he followed it with a Bridging Dragon Suplex for a very near fall! The challenger was able to recover and, after getting control, he brought a table to the ring too. That table ended up being used: the champion tried to hit a Superplex through it, but, of course, Lynn countered it to an impactful Sunset Flip Powerbomb. The table split itself in pieces, but Lynn took a bit to go for the pin. Near fall!
Once again, after that, the match toned down a little, getting cleaner again. Finally, in the end, Jerry seemed to have control, but Daniels raked his eyes before hitting a bit Tornado DDT! Lynn was not that broken, though, and Daniels knew it as he was slowly getting up. So the champion got to his robe and took something out of the pocket: the spike! He went to hit Lynn with it, but Lynn was aware, and he swung a chair against Daniels’ arm! Then, he threw the chair on the ground and hit a devastating Cradle Piledriver onto it! 1…2…3! Jerry Lynn has taken the TV title from the Church!
RESULT: JERRY LYNN DEF. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS – PIN – NEW CHAMPION! – 17:22
RATING: 63>> LYNN: A FIGHTING CHAMPION TO BE>> After winning gold once again, Jerry Lynn grabbed a microphone with the belt in hand, but only to say a few words. Those words were aimed at anyone that wants to hold the ECW World Television Championship: “Get in line!” Lynn said he planned to be a fighting champion, and that means defending the title in TV every week.
>> ANOTHER MATCH ADDED TO NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER… WITH AN ASTERISK>> Paul Heyman had another announcement. From his desk, this time, he let us know that the ECW World Junior Heavyweight Championship will be defended at November to Remember. He reminded us that Hayabusa promised Super Crazy a rematch when the Mexican felt ready, and the former champion made the matchmaker know that time is now. So, at November to Remember, it will be Hayabusa vs. Super Crazy again. Unless… well, since Billy Kidman has beef with both men, Hayabusa and Super Crazy accepted to make the match a 3-Way Dance. But Heyman thinks that after losing clean to the two of them in the space of three months, BK now has to earn that spot. If he wins his match next week, he’s added to the title match.
>> CORINO AND DOUGLAS IN THE SAME MOOD>> On video, we had ‘The Franchise’! Shane Douglas addressed Steve Corino’s beef with him, announcing he’s back in ECW to stay. Full-time. And that means he’s more than happy to teach Corino something. Once again, he recognizes Corino’s value and potential, but he plans to make the differences between both clear to the ECW faithful.
>> Then, we had ‘His Own Man’! Corino addressed the brawl from last week and stated he doesn’t want the next physical confrontation he has with Douglas to be stopped by other wrestlers or security. He wants Douglas in a match… next week!
MATCH #4
KURT ANGLE vs. RIC NOVA (w/DAN DORINSON & J.J. KILLON)Time for the main event, which, in a night with a title match and a #1 contendership match, could only be… Kurt Angle’s first match in ECW! His opponent was Nova. Ric Nova, that is, who got to the ring telling Angle: “You’ve gaht yourself a gold medal, but I’m the real World Heavyweight Champion in wrasslin’! Wooooo!”
Obviously, Angle controlled the match, humbling poor Nova as Dorin(g)son and (Road)Killon watched. Angle could’ve ended it sooner and even dared the stablemates of his opponent to get in the ring. Both were floored with German Suplexes. Finally, he locked the Ankle Lock on Nova to make him submit.
RESULT: KURT ANGLE DEF. RIC NOVA – SUBMISSION – 7:47
RATING: 73>> CHAMPION: LOSING TEMPER AGAINST THE CHALLENGER?>> He didn’t release the hold, though, as he was enjoying inflicting pain in an ECW original. Enter Mike Awesome! The ECW World Heavyweight Champion rushed to the ring, Paul Ellering some meters back. Kurt Angle then released the hold, daring Awesome to hit him, and he was pretty insistent. So much that Paul Heyman had to get to the ring himself and talk Awesome into his senses, as he’d lose the title if he hit Angle.
>> Awesome then assured Heyman he was calm enough and wouldn’t do anything that stupid, as he cherishes the ECW World Title more than anything. Kurt Angle kept trying to get in Awesome’s head, telling him: “I’m bigger than the cesspool that is ECW! And frankly, Mike, so are you! Open your freakin’ eyes!” Mike Awesome answered: “Enjoy your trial period, Angle. At November to Remember I’ll welcome you to ECW, you piece of sh*t!” Angle laughed and left the ring, walking to the back with his middle fingers up to the crowd.
FINAL RATING: 73
BOOKER’S NOTES:>> Happy with this show too. The TV Title match could’ve had a better rating, but setting the aim to Technical Masterpiece with that placement wasn’t smart enough. Still, the angle ratings (I know, I don’t list them, since I often use two or three segments in-game to write an angle) were fantastic. The show had some important announcements, but there’s still a lot to unveil until November to Remember!
>> Yeah, it has to be “Tazz”, as copyright exists now that ECW is a WWE subsidiary.
