Great show! I love the dynamic of Shane vs. the OGs and the Mike Awesome plot was interesting at the end given his history.
I also welcome this diary change cause I enjoy your writing but now I know who everyone is haha!!!

I think there are two ways to take ECW in 2001. You could focus on workrate and push smaller cruiserweights and do lots of high spots. Or, you could do deathmatches every show and focus on hardcore matches.
Either way, Sabu probably is your most valuable player. Even with RVD on the roster.

I definitely don't want to have fully-fledged deathmatches here. It wouldn't even make sense, given ECW is owned by WWF, even though I'm a fan of the deathmatch genre. The product will be similar to ECW's own, I can guarantee that!

I'm happy to see this starting, but don't forget about the last night of the Carnival please!
Such a nice opening segment and Shane's role is quickly established. It's a total reboot and we'll get a tournament, I love the piece of reality that comes with Rhyno already being a WWF wrestling in May 2001 Crazy and Tajiri had an awesome feud in ECW and they are a great choice to open the show Kanyon is a nice acquisition, he did nothing in New York, might as well go to ECW and do well there. So do you have him thanks to a development contract? If so, can the AI take him back or is the contract only for a specific period of time? That's interesting Bit of waste of RVD maybe, but he went over at least. Van Dam will chase the belt of course, it would be huge if he finally got it and then turneed heel to go to Raw as the Mr. Monday Night he always wanted to be. On that note, can WWF hire your wrestlers too? I know you like Awesome and he could be a good hand in here, I don't know where it stands but he probably should be a heel after what he did in 2000 Great show! Yeah, the attendance was too low, you would have easily filled the ECW arena with this

I read the Sabu's wikipedia and from that it appeared Sabu would be a free agent in 2001. Shows that wikipedia isn't always accurate, I guess.

Well, it is right, because he was a freelancer, but he was on tour with AJPW and then went to the wild land of XPW.

Great questions regarding the relationship with WWF. So: Shane is the owner of ECW in-game and he's actually my character too, so he had to be removed from WWF. So WWF doesn't officially own ECW like it owns NXT, so we're not a development territory. We have a relationship where we're in good terms, can trade talent (although I'm not looking to fill the shows with WWF guys) and no company can steal talent. However, WWF can sign my wrestlers when it's time to renew their contracts. I can't. Thought it would be a fairer deal that could happen IRL.

That makes sense!
Actually, Sabu was under contract to ECW until like 2002 (he signed a 5 years deal in 1997 when the PPV era started). He walked out on ECW due to creative issues and Heyman prevented him from signing with WCW or even showing up in XPW's PPV IIRC
Sullivan wanted Sabu in 2000 to use him in the Hardcore division, but Heyman wouldn't release Sabu
