WCW Clash of the Champions XXXVI: The Big Easy Brawl
March 26, 2026 Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, LAA video package opened the show featuring the first Clash of the Champions Main Event of Sting vs. Ric Flair, leading into a reminder that tonight would feature the WCW in-ring return of Sting, and then hyping some of the other important matches of the night. WCW World Tag Team Championship
Christy Hemme was backstage with Planet Jarrett members Jeff Jarrett, Abyss and Monty Brown with Hemme bringing up the tension that seemed apparent when Monty Brown got the microphone last night on WCW Nitro. Jeff Jarrett blew that off stating that both Abyss and Monty Brown knew their roles, and that they knew exactly what to do if they were to win tonight, before making fun of Christy and walking away leaving Monty Brown in particular looking annoyed that he didn’t get to speak.
NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship
WCW World Television Championship
After the match Christopher Daniels quickly got into the ring to make sure that Joe wouldn’t attack Styles, but Joe just nodded at both men before dropping out of the ring and grabbing the WCW World Television Championship belt and made his way to the back.
After the match Ron Killings jumped into the ring to celebrate with Raven, while the camera focused on Larry Zbyszko outside looking shocked that his time as WCW Commissioner was over!
Chrisy Hemme was interviewing Jay Lethal backstage, and he was joined by his friend Sonjay Dutt. Lethal spoke about how he was excited to get a rematch with Liger after their draw, and that tonight he would get the victory. He then turned to pat Dutt on the back and tell him that it would be okay, and he would get a Championship soon enough. It does not look like the words of encouragement meant much to Dutt.
WCW Cruiserweight Championship After the match Jay was celebrating with the WCW Cruiserweight Championship and Sonjay Dutt after helping Jushin Liger to his feet. As soon as Jay turned his back….Sonjay Dutt turned and nailed Liger with a Clothesline! With Liger on his back, Sonjay Dutt started to kick away at him, until Lethal turned around and saw what was going on. Lethal pushed Dutt away from Liger, and Sonjay pushed Lethal back before leaving the ring and walking away in disgust.
WCW Control Center with Don West! On this special edition of the WCW Control Center, Don West hyped the news that WCW Nitro would be going to 90 minutes! This would begin in two weeks, after a best of episode of WCW Nitro on April 1. During the first edition of the 90-minute WCW Nitro Sting would return to the ring when he teams with Christian Cage to face off against Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown. The NWA had sanctioned a one-on-one match for the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship with new Champion Fergal Devitt facing off against former Champion, Rocky Romero. And a new WCW Commissioner would be announced, and it was going to be a wrestling Hall of Famer!
Shane Douglas interviewed Christian Cage who promised to win this match for his friend Rhino.
Overall Rating: 63-this was a lot better than the last Clash of Champions run by the original WCW, with a good mix of high flying, some technical work, legends, and a great main event. It was also a pleasant surprise to have Devitt added to the card, and then Dutt turning on Liger. I'm not sure what Machete brought to the show though, and I'm not sure that this LAX thing is going to take off at this rate as thus far they just look like cannon fodder for the James Gang. With a couple of months now until they next WCW PPV it will be interesting to see how they build things without having the benefit of a tournament to take up the time.
