Piper serves as a stepping stone for him here. Just putting young guy over for the future. In Piper's farewell match, the cocky and evasive Piper finally faces his match in the debuting Rick Martel. The "Loser Leaves Town" stipulation adds an extra layer of drama, and Martel emerges victorious, sending Piper off to pursue his movie career.
