In real life Backlund wouldn't turn heel until the 90s, mainly because he didn't want his daughter to see him as a heel. Once she was older, he would turn heel for Vince. The idea of turning him heel alongside Bockwinkel and Zbyszko is an intriguing one, and it sets up a ready made faction for whoever the top babyface champion will be, either Martel or Flair (the latter of which could do either one).
Some good matches so far. Interested to see what you do with the tag team talent of the day.

My thinking on Backlund is that he needed to freshen up his character at the time. And we know he has being a heel in him. And this isn't him being the crazy old man heel he would be later on. This is him basically still being the same wrestler in the ring and talking the same on promos, but he's just allied with heels and going against faces. Backlund, Zybszko and Bockwinkel were all in the AWA at the time and being that all three are mat based old school grapplers, that just seemed like a good fit for a heel stable. This is fantasy wrestling, but I don't think such a heel turn for Backlund like this is outside of the realm of possibility for the time. I could even see a face turn back if he gets tired of the cheating and beat downs, sort of this isn't what I signed up for.
