Main Event - Bruno Sammartino vs Gorilla Monsoon - WWWF World Heavyweight Title Match [87]
Closing out the year, Bruno Sammartino and Gorilla Monsoon battle it out once again. With both men knowing this is make or break match between the both of them, they battle it out courageously for over an hour.
Towards the end of the match, Freddie Blassie knocks down the referee and climbs into the ring. He goes to hit Bruno with his cane but, after Bruno ducked, Blassie ended up striking Monsoon. A clothesline from Bruno sent Blassie to the outside. With Monsoon dazed, Bruno took the opportunity to hoist Monsoon over his shoulder and hit a running powerslam. The referee climbs into the ring to count the pin - One...Two...Three! Bruno Sammartino overcomes Gorilla Monsoon after 68:42 and retains his title.
After the match, Freddie Blassie comes to console Gorilla Monsoon. However, Monsoon grips the throat of Blassie and hits a choke bomb, thus breaking up their partnership.
