List of trades 1986
We received a offer from Los Angeles that we couldn't turn down. Brent Ashton is a solid winger that have several 50 points season in New Jersey, but at the same time our roster is getting stacked on left wing and right wing. So this move clears a spot for our bluechippers. Kevin Hatcher is a offensive defenceman with solid physical and defensive skills.
We sent goalie Kirk McLean to the Kings to clear a spot for 19-year old bluechipper Curtis Joseph.
Craig Ludwig is a solid defensive defenceman and plays a more physical style than Joe Cirella.

New Jersey Devils
Building a DynastyThe objective is straightforward: Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The goal for the 1986–87 season is to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs again, and make another Stanley Cup run. Glenn Resch is a solid veteran goalie, and Curtis Joseph is a top bluechipper. Our defence is solid and our main strength with Scott Stevens, Rob Ramage and Brad McCrimmon as our backbone. When it comes to the offense we have a 3 defensive centers (Dale Hunter, Joel Otto and Brian Skrudland) and a offensive playmaker in Aaron Broten. On the wings we have several quality power forwards, grinders and agitators that are capable of stealing games.
Main Rivals New York Rangers
Minor Rivals Edmonton Oilers
The playoff series during the debut season created a new rivalry with the New York Rangers. So expect intense and heated division matches against Rangers. The other rivalry is Edmonton Oilers; the team to beat in the NHL. Since the move from Colorado to New Jersey we obviously don't play in the same division or conference any more, but the AI still lists the rivalry as active and the last Stanley Cup Finals against the Oilers keeps the rivalry alive.
Head Coach Fred Shero
Offensive Coach Pat Quinn
Defensive Coach Jacques Demers Goalie Coach Gerald Dorais
With Fred Shero as our head coach we will continue to play a defensive and very physical tactic in the same mold as the Broad Street Bullies. We are aggressive team that use physical strength, fighting and intimidation as a tactic.
