List of trades 1983 Right wing Lanny McDonald is a quality sniper, but isn't interested in negotiating a new deal. So to not lose him without compensation to the free agency market, I decided to put him on the trading block. The alternative would have been to kept him for the upcoming 1983/84 season and then lost him to free agency. This is a huge loss for the team since McDonald scored 88 points (40 goals and 48 assists) in 76 games for New Jersey Devils last season.
After Lanny McDonald goes center Steve Tambellini, another member of New Jersey Devils 1st Line. Tambellini delivered 80 points (31 goals and 49 assists) in 78 matches for New Jersey Devils last season. In exchange for Tambellini New Jersey Devils receives the rights to right wing Pat Verbeek. Verbeek is a power forward that was selected as #20 by Montreal Canadiens in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Our scouts gives him potential of a future second-liner.
John MacLean is a potential first-liner that hopefully can replace some of Lanny McDonald's and Steve Tambellini's offensive production. Goalie Glenn Healy was our top goalie prospect, but we really wanted MacLean. Hopefully our veteran goalie Glenn Resch will continue to work wonders until we manages to draft another potential starting goalie prospect.

New Jersey Devils
Building a DynastyThe objective is straightforward: Rebuild.
The goal for the 1983–84 season is to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, while continuing building a future contender. Glenn Resch is a solid veteran goalie, but Devils really need a goalie bluechipper since Resch is in time decline. Our defence is solid and our main strength. When it comes to the offense our young players will have to replace our top two scorers (Lanny McDonald and Steve Tambellini). We have quality prospects on left wing and right wing, but could use a bluechip center.
Main Rivals New York Rangers
Minor Rivals Edmonton Oilers
The playoff series created a new rivalry with the New York Rangers. So expect intense and heated division matches against Rangers. The other rivalry is Edmonton Oilers; the team to beat in the NHL. Since the move from Colorado to New Jersey we obviously don't play in the same division or conference any more, but the AI still lists the rivalry as active.

It won't turn either team into an instant contender, but the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks finalized a trade today. Vancouver Canucks will send 29-year old left wing enforcer Tiger Williams in exchange for 25-year old right wing Dave Hindmarch. Tiger Williams is a elite level enforcer, which means that New Jersey now have the two top 2 enforcers in the NHL (Tiger Williams and Curt Brackenbury).

Chicago Blackhawks 2-4 Pat Verbeek (Dale Hunter) Brad McCrimmon (Joe Cirella and Tiger Williams)
