Grand Wrestling TournamentAs according to from the newly instated 'American Department of Pugilism & Wrestling', founded by Illinoisan politician Abraham Lincoln, has decreed that a great wrestling tournament will be held in this coming January to declarer a 'definitive' nationwide catch wrestling champion. This has caused a stir with politicians & athletes alike with many stating that the government is encroaching on a free market space & as one concerned wrestler has put, "Mr. Lincoln is looking to remove the freedom from our glorious sport & it replace it with mockery the likes this great nation has ever seen.". Mr. Lincoln addressed these concerns in a speech he that he gave at the inaugural meeting of the department where he said, "The sport of boxing & wrestling in a noble one, one in which where it is determined through the might & mass of man, the multitude & magistery of maneuvers, where the penultimate competitor lies on the field of combat. My friends, as long as that is still the case at hand, I will be the one overseeing the juncture of this department."
Despite concerns of the new departments controls on the sport, many wrestlers from across the nation have flocked to New York to take part in the grand event. Some of the which being members of the feared Manhattan side gang the 'Bowery Boys' along with the gangs leader William Poole, members of the Tammany Hall & even an Arabian Giant going by the name of 'Colonel Routh Goshen'. Mr. Lincoln will be there in attendance to award the winner with the honorary championship belt. The event will be held over a three day period near Central Park's southernmost entrance, with admission being the cost of 14¢.From the "New York Report" December 29, 1847.

Before the bout, for weeks leading up to the contest, Wood had taken several interviews stating that he would be as hard on crime as he was on Poole in his contest & that Poole's "Gang of Hooligans'" wouldn't stand a chance when put next to a hardworking U.S. citizen, like himself. Sadly for Wood, on this day the pen wasn't mightier than the sword, as The Butcher successfully threw him three consecutive times in under 15 minutes. A crushing defeat for Wood as he had more than likely would have liked to have used his victory as a publicity stunt to help secure his spot for the Democrats in this year's upcoming mayoral election.Winner: William "The Butcher" PooleTom Hyer vs. Moses "Fireboy" Humphrey The next match is between the currant heavyweight boxing champion Tom Hyer & Bowery Boys gang member Moses "Fireboy" Humphrey. Having looked at this scenario you can pretty much highlight anyname and find a wikipedia article or news story talking about them, it's actually really impressive the effort put in. Also IDK if this diary is still active but if you didn't grab Abraham Lincoln along the way I'm going to be disappointed.
