Hello, firstly I'm new here so if I've put this post in the wrong place I apologise/please move to correct location.
Purchased TEW 2020 in December 2020 after seeing the 'WCW Goodnight and goodbye?' mod database and played it back for about 5 or 6 months (in game time) until not touching TEW 2020 again until January 2021. The game coincided with my binge listening to podcasts like 83 Weeks, Something to Wrestle With and What Happened When.
After going back to my save I found myself using the in-game editor a lot to try and fix a few things in the database I wasn't happy with and after hearing another podcast by Bischoff himself on what his plans were back in 2000/2001 about purchasing WCW I started making a list of changes I'd make to the database if I was to start again.
I copied this database and made a number of changes last night (not started the new save yet)
* Starting Absences
- Bill Goldberg - Time Warner
- Bobby Heenan - Time Warner
- Kevin Nash - Time Warner
- Hulk Hogan - Time Warner
- Lex Luger - Time Warner
- Stevie Ray - Time Warner
All 44 weeks (until March 2002)
I deleted these workers WCW contracts and created the above absences. I did consider adding Sting, Rey Mysterio Jr., Alex Wright, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Rick Steiner and DDP too however I thought these workers would have most likely been persuaded/wanted to keep working rather than sit on the sidelines for nearly a year. Going through the WCW roster that is in this mod I couldn't think of any others that would have had a time warner deal/or wouldn't want to work for the new venture under Bischoff.
I also deleted HBK's WWF contract as I don't believe he had one in 2001 and resigned with them in 2002 IRL.
I also created HHH's quad injury which he would have had by May 2001 IRL keeping him out until Jan 2002.
* New Venue
- Created 'WCW Arena, Hard Rock Cafe & Casino, Las Vegas'
Bischoff said as part of the Fusient deal to buy WCW there were plans for a purpose built arena above this casino is Las Vegas with a 5,000 to 7,000 capacity where he would have held all Monday Nitro's for the foreseeable future to save costs and only tour USA with PPV Events.
I also changed WCW's base to South West from South East.
* Roster additions
Steve Corino
RVD
Jerry Lynn
Jerry Lawler
Don Callis
Joey Styles
Corino has gone on record to say he signed a deal with WCW in 2001 and was paid over the summer because of it.
Bischoff has said RVD and Lynn had verbally signed around the same time.
Bischoff has said Jerry Lawler phoned him in Jan 2001 to ask for work and said he'll happily sign him if his takeover is successful.
Bischoff also said he has verbal agreements in place with Joey Styles and Don Callis.
* Events
I left this alone but here are some ideas to make it true to life
- Bischoff said the plan was for the first PPV of this new WCW was to be called 'The Big Bang' at the end of May 2001 although he would have preferred to return in November but didn't think it would be possible to have such a long hiatus without heavy financial losses.
- Bischoff also said that he doubts he would have had monthly PPVs and instead only keeping the prestigious ones like Havoc, Starrcade etc.
I didn't add these into the starting database as this could be down to the player/user. Bischoff hated Events/PPVs from March to June as he said the business is always down then and the market is consumed by Wrestlemania so my idea is to not have typical PPVs here and instead have WCW tour UK, Europe, Japan, Oceania etc to increase popularity elsewhere.
* TV Shows
- I made WCW Thunder dormant
- A realistic edit would to have WCW Nitro on TNT or TBS as the Bischoff/Fusient takeover was counting on them buying the time slots on either of these channels for weekly TV. Once it was rejected they pulled out.
I didn't add this in because I just don't want this new WCW venture having anything to do with Time Warner. Also keeping it open allows the user to try and negotiate and new TV deal for Nitro which can be fun or go down the TNA format of weekly PPV/Events maybe 'Clash of the Champions'?
* Roster - Popularity disparity
One big problem I found with this database is the popularity of the works on the roster being incorrect or problematic.
Big example is the main eventers like Sting, Goldberg, Flair are in the 80's then Scott Steiner 70's and Booker/Jarret 60's then Rey Mysterio 50's then the likes of Vampiro, Douglas etc in the 40's then everyone else is in the 10's or 20's. Causes problems because those over 50 won't job for anyone else under them and there's only so many times you can have the same people wrestle each other again and again.
Also, there's Jindrak on 67 popularity (WTF?) and Big Vito on 47 when they've only been in the business for 1 year in game.
There's a lot of others who I would consider more 'over' at the time that have abysmal popularity - and I'm UK based and I know the WCW roster very well as we got Nitro on TNT and Thunder weekly throughout the 90's until the end.
I've adjusted a few of the popularities before starting the game but thinking I may edit in game at the start to create a more blanket for my roster.
Example Main Eventers would all be in the 70s, US Title in 50s etc etc - everyone will be 30+ if they have more than 1 years experience or been over exposed early otherwise i'll be sending them to NWA Wildside for developtment.
If anyone has any helpful ideas/additions to add please let me know.
Thanks for reading.
