Great Eight-man tag team match to main event the A show. I really like The Racket Club's line up. Liking the developments between Foley and Blanchard too. I wouldn't mind seeing a funnier version of Foley (a bit like Mankind during a point of the AE.)

Great Eight-man tag team match to main event the A show. I really like The Racket Club's line up. Liking the developments between Foley and Blanchard too. I wouldn't mind seeing a funnier version of Foley (a bit like Mankind during a point of the AE.) Of course, I'm planning a period when Foley's character will deteriorate and get darker at some point. Early-Mankind times were incredible. I'm considering going a similar route.

I imagined a crazy segment where Backlund and Foley are interviewed but they have their giant check with them still. The giant novelty check looks a little weathered and worse for wear, but they proudly show it off like they just won. Then they keep the gimmick going until the giant check could be folded in half and carried easier. Then during a future interview segment Backlund and Foley argue over the check and end up ripping it in half, destroying it.

Red Hook Machine (w/Jesse Ventura) defeated Brooklyn Brawler in 3:57 Red Hook submitted Brawler with Kati Hajime. Brawler did not perform well.
SEGMENT - Mick Foley lashes out at Blanchard, who makes fun of his mental state in the promo he cut. He screams, speaks hoarsely, and challenges Blanchard to a "No DQ" match for Gauntlet 10 this Sunday. Foley gave a great performance in this segment. His interaction with the crowd was tremendous.
🏆 Crockett Cup 1st Round | Jerry Lawler defeated Jeff Jarrett in 5:47 Lawler pinned Jarrett with Piledriver. Lawler thus became the second wrestler to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. SEGMENT - Lanny The Clever and Chris Candido cut a promo for their takeover of the AWA World Tag titles. Lanny admits that his rivals, Malenko and Benoit, have great technical abilities. But he also says it has a huge advantage: all its movesets are very predictable. They knew very well the next moves of both opponents. They would sit and work with Candido all week. Low rating points came as Lanny could not improvise very well in this segment. SEGMENT - There was an attack on the trailer, which contains the souvenirs that DDP used on the sets in Hollywood and collected from there. It is unknown who did it. Brian Pillman defeated Tom Prichard (w/Jimmy Del Ray) in 7:18 Pillman pinned Prichard with Air Pillman. Zbyszko, who was among the announcers during the match, tried to distract Pillman in the ring by constantly shouting. However, Pillman still managed to win the match. After the match, the two met face to face in front of the announce table. Bob Backlund (w/Mick Foley) defeated Tully Blanchard in 12:32 Backlund submitted Blanchard with Crippler Crossface. Blanchard made his 1992 debut with this match. Foley distracts Blanchard by acting strangely outside the ring during the match. After a while, Blanchard gets very angry when Foley spit at him. In the meantime, Backlund catches his opponent from behind and makes him give up and wins the match. Backlund strides backstage, expressionless. Only Foley experiences the joy of victory. Crazy moment.

Hilarious scenes from Foley and Backlund again. I want Blanchard to beat Foley somehow to further up the storyline, tho.
Larry Zbyszko's reign may be coming to an end soon...

I decided to share such a recap post periodically so that the progress of the storylines can be followed more easily.
STORYLINES RECAP - AUG 92
🏆 CROCKETT CUP 1992 TOURNAMENT Status: First Round
The Crockett Cup 1992 tournament began. It has been announced that starting this year, the winners of the Crockett Cup tournament will go directly to SuperClash and compete for the AWA World Title. Mr. Sandman and Jerry Lawler have won the first round matches so far. Bracket of the tournament to be released soon.
📌 WHO IS BEHIND OF RENTAL KILLERS?Status: Hold
This is the oldest storyline right now. Composed of Ed Ewers (Tony Norris) and Tom Lindman (Ludvig Borga), who have been doing things for the money since TBS took over the AWA in 1991, Rental Killers has existed in many different formations. We most recently saw Ken Patera enter this formation as a leader. However, he was not replaced after he was fired after a backstage fight in May 1992. The Rental Killers formation has attacked good wrestlers by getting involved in many critical AWA World title matches to date. In the spring of 1992, Reed commissioned Eric Bischoff to investigate the power behind this team. Before Bischoff can fully begin his research, he is attacked by the Rental Killers. A few weeks later, Reed brings a detective named Daxton Hartweck (Charles Wright) to AWA. Hartweck conducts interviews for weeks, completely focused on this event. At one point he even takes on and defeats Patera, the apparent leader of the Rental Killers. However, a few months after this win, it disappears. Hartweck gets an unknown call and he goes on a meeting. After that, he is never heard from again. It is still unknown what the force and goal behind Rental Killers is.
📌 LARRY ZBYSZKO vs. BRIAN PILLMAN (AWA WORLD TITLE) Status: Active
Three weeks after defeating Sid and winning the AWA World Championship for the fourth time, Larry Zbyszko reads a manifesto in the ring in which he makes it clear that he is the face of the company. However, Brian Pillman interrupts, saying that the "face of the company" status is about to pass to him. The following week, Youthquake Combat Class cuts a promo in the ring as a full line-up. Pillman gives a speech emphasizing that change is imminent for the AWA, also praising his friends Malenko/Benoit, who have recently taken AWA World Tag titles. He says that this change will be completed when he takes over the AWA World title. YCC defeats Zbyszko, Bundy and Red Hook in a six-man tag match at the Team Challenge Series show. After the match, the heel side does not accept defeat and goes on the attack. Dynamite Kid saves YCC. At the Championship Wrestling show the next day, Zbyszko defended his title against the Dynamite Kid. At the end of the match, he wins by knocking out his opponent with gauze, without letting the referee know. However, Pillman at the announce table says "this is bullshit" and jumps into the ring and finds the gauze and shows it to the referee. The referee changes his decision and thus Zbyszko loses by disqualification. After this event, the main match of the show Gauntlet 10: Faces of the Fear becomes clear: Zbyszko vs. pillman. The next week, as a guest on The NB Show, Pillman says that since the end of last year, he has been waiting for a chance to win the AWA World Championship again, and this wait is now over. He also thinks that the Rental Killers formation, which prevented him from winning the belt, has been weakened and that there is no obstacle in front of him anymore. Wk 3, Aug - Championship Wrestling show, Pillman defeats Tom Prichard despite Zbyszko's distraction at the announce table. After the match, the two meet face to face.
📌 OWEN HART vs. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE (AWA INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION TITLE) Status: Active
Owen Hart is attacked by DDP and Greg Valentine after defeating Mike Enos to seize the AWA International Television title at WrestleRock 92. This is how the conflict begins. In the following weeks, DDP announced that it was attacking Owen and coveting the title so that the title would now be represented by a nationally famous wrestler. As a matter of fact, Wk 2, July 1992 - captured the championship with Valentine's support in Championship Wrestling show. The next week, DDP comes to the screen while making tense phone calls backstage. After a while, it is understood that he was seeing someone from Hollywood. We can understand from this phone call why DDP is so eager to seize the belt. He was looking for sponsors for his new film project. He thought that by winning the belt, he could increase his reputation and that way, he could get more investment in his new movie. However, even if he seizes the belt, he cannot find the sponsors he expects. Not giving up, DDP focuses on the next PPV, the Team Challenge Series, and the half-million dollar prize for the tournament winner. With the award he will win here, he will find the financial support he wants for his new movie. DDP and Valentine made it to the finals with the Model Antagonists they formed. However, with Owen's intervention in the final, the Backlund & Foley duo won the tournament and DDP could not get the money they wanted. DDP then sues Owen, who was involved in the final match, for compensation because it cost him 500 thousand dollars. He wants this money from her. Due to the case, it is informed that a possible attack by DDP or Owen on each other during this process will affect the outcome of the case. And for the show Gauntlet 10, Valentine vs. The Owen match is also finalized in this process. It is DDP itself who encourages Valentine to this match. At the Wk 3, August 1992 - Championship Wrestling show, an attack takes place on the trailer containing the memorabilia that DDP used on the sets in Hollywood and collected from there. It is unknown who did it.
📌 JERRY LAWLER vs. TERRY MAWASHI (w/RACKET CLUB) Status: Active
During the Jerry Lawler vs Larry Zbyszko match in Gauntlet 9: Commandment, Lawler's junior student Chris Youngblood is attacked by Terry Mawashi while standing at the ringside. There had been a similar attack in the Rage in a Cage show before, and Lawler, who left the match to prevent this attack, lost the Cage of Hellhole match. When the same happens on this show, Lawler doesn't want to quit the game at first. However, when Mawashi continues his attack, he wants to go out of the ring and respond. Zbyszko also does not miss this opportunity and pins his opponent, which he catches from behind. After the match, enraged, Lawler summons Mawashi to the ring. Answering the call, Mawashi enters the ring and starts to fight Lawler. A little while later, Lawler takes a beating when Racket Club members Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon also come to attack. Meanwhile, Youngblood, who comes to his senses, enters the ring and saves his mentor from the attack. In the weeks that follow, Lawler calls the Racket Club that they will be held accountable for their actions. Meanwhile, it is revealed that Racket Club leader Paul Ellering sabotaged the draw after Cage of Hellhole winner Ricky Steamboat was injured against Lawler. Although Lawler wanted to repeat the draw by explaining the situation to Frank Reed, he could not convince the AWA management to draw a lot again because it was too late. Finally, Lawler and Mawashi come face to face. After Ellering said that Lawler was a terrible team player, evident after losing the teams belt earlier this year, Lawler challenges Racket Club's The Can-Am Express for WrestleRock 92, but does not reveal his partner. He says he will not put Youngblood into such a dangerous match. Because he says it will be a really dirty match. At WrestleRock 92, Lawler's secret partner, Mr. It is learned that he is a Sandman. The Can-Am Express wins the head-to-head match. Lawler doesn't tag Sandman much during the match, and after the match, the two argue over this reason. Sandman is even more angry because he doesn't like to wrestle as a team anyway. In the match the next day, Lawler defeats Mawashi by disqualification. After this match, we won't see Racket Club in weekly shows. On the Team Challenge Series show, Lawler takes on Jarrett. During the match, Mawashi comes to the ring and distracts Lawler. However, Lawler still wins the match. The next day at Championship Wrestling, Lawler says his patience is running out, and challenges the entire Racket Club to an 8-Man Tag match. Lawler/Backlund/Foley/Steamboat team wins the tag match at the Championship Wrestling show the following week. Especially the fact that Steamboat is in Lawler's team creates a shock effect. This is how the former AWA World Tag Team champions who are at odds with each other are reconciled. After the duo wins the match, they shake hands.
📌 UNORTHODOX CIRICE'S EXPANSION Status: Hold
Jesse Ventura, who has been missing for a while, especially after Rick Rude's departure from the AWA, reappears on Wk 2, Aug 1992 - Championship Wrestling. He cuts a promo with Red Hook Machine and King Kong Bundy by his side, announcing that he's reviving the Unorthodox Cirice formation, which has been quiet since Rude's departure. He also transferred a new name to his team: MIKE ENOS! Ventura officially announces the acquisition of former AWA International Television champion Enos from the United Nations of Terror formation. He adds that his team will continue to grow.
📌 LANNY THE CLEVER'S DEBUT Status: Active
Lanny Poffo, also known as The Genius at WWF, arrives at the AWA under the name Lanny The Clever. Early on, Lanny appears in short videos emphasizing his superiority in "mind and intellect." Short sketches of AWA's key wrestlers like Sid and Ricky Steamboat appear on weekly shows, saying that he can predict all their moves, everything they can do, and thus beat them. Lanny finally debuts and manages to beat his opponents without actually falling behind. It is noteworthy that he defeated the Dynamite Kid in the Team Challenge Series show. In fact, Lanny will lose this match. However, Lanny wins this tough match thanks to the intervention of a young wrestler, Chris Candido, at the last moment. At the Wk 1, Aug 1992 - Championship Wrestling show, Lanny wants to meet this young man who helped him. The two get along well. At the Wk 1, Aug 1992 - Taboo Hour show, young Candido wins a match for the company for the first time. Having Lanny at the ringside and preparing for the matches with him from the front was the key point of this victory. Lanny says he has this young man under his protection. The duo will also play as a team in the following weeks and win. At the Wk 3, Aug 1992 - Championship Wrestling, Lanny challenges AWA World Tag champions Dean Malenko / Chris Benoit at Gauntlet 10: Faces of the Fear. Lanny demonstrates his team's assertiveness by saying that they have a tremendous advantage, that they know the technical abilities of the champions, that they have been training them for weeks and that they can predict all their moves.
📌 TULLY BLANCHARD vs. MICK FOLEY Status: Active
Bob Backlund / Mick Foley duo, who won the Team Challenge Series tournament and won half a million dollars in prize money, are reviewed on Star Review by Tully Blanchard. Blanchard slams the duo: "How could a man with doubts of his sanity, especially Mick Foley, get into this tournament? How was he given such a large sum of money? What could have been done with that money?" At the Wk 2, Aug 1992 - Championship Wrestling, Blanchard is attacked unexpectedly when she arrives at the studio to shoot the new episode of Star Review. Foley, who has infiltrated the studio posing as a cameraman, launches an attack for what he said about himself last week. After beating Blanchard with the camera, he holds the same camera to his face and grins grudgingly with missing teeth. At the Wk 3, Aug 1992 - Championship Wrestling show, Foley lashes out at Blanchard, who makes fun of his mental state, and challenges him to a No DQ match for the show Gauntlet 10: Faces of the Fear.
📌 WHO INJURED RICKY STEAMBOAT? Status: Hold
Ricky Steamboat, who won the tough Cage of Hellhole match in Rage in a Cage and qualified for the AWA World championship match for WrestleRock 92, is injured by a mysterious attack the day after the show and misses this championship game. Larry Zbyszko won the draw to determine the wrestler to replace for him. A few weeks later, Daxton, who comes to the company as a detective, asks Hartweck for help in finding his attacker. After completing his research, Hartweck concludes that the Rental Killers are behind the attack.

Pretty good Gauntlet. I could see Blanchard beating Foley, but I expected something different, so I'm happy to be surprised! It's also great to see Bam Bam Bigelow aligning with Ventura and, specially, with Chris Candido. It gives some good Triple Threat vibes.

AWA Championship Wrestling Monday, Week 4, August 1992
🎙️ Announcers - Rod Trongard, Eric Bischoff and Mr. T 🏟️ Attendance - 2,500 *SOLD OUT* 📺 Rating - 0.65 ✍️ Show Grade - C (63) 🎖️ CHAMPIONS 🎖️ AWA World Heavyweight Title: Larry Zbyszko AWA International Television Title: Diamond Dallas Page AWA World Tag Team Titles: Lanny The Clever and Chris Candido
SEGMENT - Announcers announce the new semi-final system for this year's tournament, announcing that Red Hook Machine has confirmed they have made it to the direct finals. Just for this year, it is announced that the Crockett Cup 1992 semi-final will be a 3-Way match. Therefore, they say that three quarter-finals will be played and that the winners of these matches will be able to reach the final on the same night after a tough semi-final match. However, for the sake of not being unfair, another match will be arranged for Red Hook on the same night.
🏆 Crockett Cup 1st Round | Chris Benoit defeated Salazar Luuv in 7:35 Benoit submitted Luuv with Crippler Crossface. Benoit thus advances to the quarterfinals. With this match, Luuv's rumble and performance skills improved.
SEGMENT - Sandman comes into the ring in anger after Unorthodox Cirice lost the AWA World Tag titles to successful young champions Malenko/Benoit last night. On the other hand, he harshly criticizes that Red Hook was made a finalist directly. He accuses the AWA of having subjugated Ventura. Ventura soon interrupts and confronts him in the ring. Ventura asks Sandman who he is, saying that he has "information" that is very important to the company, and that its value was realized, albeit late, by Frank Reed himself: "I will not answer to a young idiot like you. It has to happen, it has to be done. Red Hook is in the final! Do you want to make it to the final too? If you really want it, work hard and face him! DO NOT cry!" Sandman gets very angry and rams Ventura with the microphone and knocks him down. Ventura immediately runs out of the ring. Red Hook comes to the ringside to attack, but Sandman does not let him into the ring.
Dynamite Kid (w/Dave Taylor) defeated Chris Candido (w/Lanny The Clever) in 8:50 Dynamited pinned Candido with Cradle Piledriver. After Lanny and Candido's shocking takeover of the AWA World Tag titles last night, Dynamite Kid challenges Lanny by interrupting the duo's in-ring promo. He says he wants to put an end to it, saying that he is now very uncomfortable with Lanny playing the "smart" and "witty" roles for weeks. Lanny warns him at first by reminding him "what happened last time". (Lanny defeated the Dynamite Kid in the Team Challenge Series show) Dynamite repeats his challenge, saying that "he is the main teacher" since then. Lanny doesn't accept the match, but is pleased that Dynamite is "so eager to get beaten up". He takes Candido into the match instead of him. No matter how many out-of-the-ring tactics Lanny tries, Dynamite successfully beats him. SEGMENT - Brian Pillman breaks into Reed's office and starts yelling at him about last night. He grabs Reed's collar, asking how the referee had changed and how the officials didn't notice it. So we learn more details about the incident: the person who will be the main referee of the match before the match is locked in the material warehouse. During the match, the fake referee was likened to the real referee with a magnificent make-up and wig, so no one could notice. It turns out that all of these are Zbyszko's tricks. Pillman demands a rematch right away. But Reed is so close to finding out who the power behind the Rental Killers is that he says he can't make up his mind about it right now. This was the best segment of the show.
🎖️ AWA International Television Championship | Diamond Dallas Page (w/Greg Valentine) (c) defeated Dean Malenko (w/Chris Benoit) in 13:08 DDP pinned Malenko after using a foreign object. DDP seems very relaxed and happy. With this match, he defends the belt for the second time.
