AWA Championship Wrestling Monday, Week 1, November 1992 Dickens Athletic Center @ Chicago, IL (Great Lakes)
🎙️ Announcers - Rod Trongard, Eric Bischoff and Mr. T 🏟️ Attendance - 2,000 *SOLD OUT* 📺 Rating - 0.71 ✍️ Show Grade - B- (76)
🎖️ CHAMPIONS 🎖️ AWA World Heavyweight Title: Larry Zbyszko AWA International Television Title: Owen Hart AWA World Tag Team Titles: Los Tiradores (Eddie Guerrero and Salazar Luuv)
SEGMENT - Jerry Lawler comes into the ring under boos and says what Steamboat said is true. However, he says that he could not understand the reaction shown to him in any way. Because Steamboat has always shown great ambition to regain the AWA title—even when they were tag team champions—and when he showed it, he was met with backlash. "He betrayed me too, when he sold our tag team title match and left, when he wrestled stupidly, I always stayed in the ring to clear the shit he did and got beaten up. Now does that make me the bad guy? I DON'T CARE! I'm the only one," he defends himself and becomes a total bad guy. Lawler cuts a great promo. This segment is one of the best promos of 1992.
Michael Hayes (w/Jeff Jarrett) defeated Brooklyn Brawler in 5:02 Hayes pinned Brawler with Bulldog. We learn that Hayes came to the company from WCW at Jarrett's invitation and will be on the World at War show. After the match, the two send a message to Owen. THE NB SHOW WITH NICK BOCKWINKEL - Frank Reed on The NB Show makes critical statements. He admits that his reason for not being on the show last week was really a depressed mood. They're not here at the moment, but I still have the Gagne awards given to this company every year to keep the memory of them and their family alive. I and my team got the company back on its feet. Thanks to Mr. Turner, we saved it from bankruptcy. As I said before, I won't leave this company so easily. Just yet. nothing is over! At World at War I will openly show what I have done for this company. And I will do so with the greatest value I have ever brought to this company: with Shawn Michaels, winner of the Crockett Cup 92! Shawn vs. Williams - at World at War ! This is an official match announcement!" While Bockwinkel performed well in this segment, Reed was not so successful. But the segment still received a good rating. Jizo defeated Greg Valentine in 6:30 Jizo pinned Valentine with Banzai Drop. Months later, Jizo successfully defeated his tough rival Valentine in his first singles match and got a big win. With this match, Valentine's performance skills improved. SEGMENT - Tully Blanchard makes fun of Mick Foley in the ring and invites him to the ring. However, contrary to expectations, Foley comes to the match after ripping off his straitjacket from the mental hospital where he was sent in the past weeks! Tully Blanchard defeated Mick Foley in 8:14 via count out Foley's appearance in the match excited the audience. At the end of the match, however, Arn Anderson from WCW returned to the AWA, interfering with the match and attacking Foley. Blanchard won the match with count out when Foley could not return to the ring in time. Thus, former AWA World Tag champions, The Brain Busters, are reactivated before World at War. With this match, Foley's technical skills and Blanchard's rumble skills improved. AWA World Heavyweight Championship | Larry Zbyszko (c) defeated Scott Steiner in 8:43 via DQ Zbyszko hits the pin at the end of the match, but outside the ring Dustin puts Scott's foot on the ropes. The referee realizes this after a while and gives the match to Zbyszko with disqualification. Zbyszko comes out of the ring and attacks Dustin and a big fight begins. The fight escalates as Dustin answers. Thus, Zbyszko retained his belt for the 7th time. This match and the fight after the match got pretty good ratings.

Fantastic! I missed this diary, specially because I love the presentation of it.
Solid show, with a great announcement for World at War. Michaels vs. Williams will be great, I'm sure. The Foley/Blanchard feud is getting more interesting at each time and I'm sure they'll kill each other in the PPV.

The past will swallow you up and destroy you, Frank!” With this match, Williams' technical skills improved.
Mr. Sandman defeated Chris Candido (w/Lanny The Clever) in 13:30 Sandman pinned Candido with White Russian Legsweep. It's going to be a solid main event. Especially after Lanny was sent to the locker room by the referee for interfering too much, Sandman won the match by gaining the upper hand. With this match, Sandman's performance skills improved. 🎖️ CHAMPIONS 🎖️ AWA World Heavyweight Title: Larry Zbyszko AWA International Television Title: Owen Hart AWA World Tag Team Titles: Los Tiradores (Eddie Guerrero and Salazar Luuv)
SEGMENT - Ricky Steamboat vs. Jerry Lawler match, which would normally be held at the beginning of the show, just couldn't get started. While Lawler was coming to the ring, the two had a long fight after Steamboat's attack from behind. Although the referees try to intervene, they cannot separate the two. Thus, the match is cancelled.
Mike Enos (w/Jesse Ventura) defeated Negative Nancy in 4:26 Enos pinned Nancy with Super Fallaway Slam. SEGMENT - After the previous match, Ventura cuts a promo at ringside: "Jizo, you idiot! You could have had a great career. But what did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO? You tried to be the bona fide giant of this decaying company. I have news for you: we have a giant too. But NOT as GOOD as you. A REAL one! King Kong Bundy!" Ventura performed exceptionally in this segment. The Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard) defeated Brooklyn Brawler and Dave Taylor in 6:56 Anderson pinned Taylor with Spike Piledriver. After attacking Foley last week, it becomes clear that Anderson is coming to AWA this year as part of the World at War show. This marks the first time The Brain Busters team has played since last year. The team's comeback received a lot of positive feedback from the crowd and boosted the show's ratings. With this match, Anderson's performance skills improved. SEGMENT - After the previous match, the tag team match for World at War was announced: The Brain Busters vs. The Asylum Inhabitants (Bob Backlund and Mick Foley) Let's see what the 1992 Team Challenge Series winners will do in this match. Shawn Michaels defeated James Sandoval in 7:36 Shawn pinned Sandoval with Sweet Chin Music. The match wasn't bad. In an interview with Bischoff after the match, Shawn says Frank Reed honored him. “I knew I came to this company as a star. I was so proud when Mr. Reed named me last week to protect the honor of AWA as this company's most important asset. Bill Gagne, listen to me! In your father's regime I was even better at AWA than I am now. I was a young wrestler. I was naive and handsome. I was in the limelight. But I improved myself when your soon-to-be-dad bastard didn't renew my contract and put me in front of the door. And here I am again. Thanks to Mr. Reed! I won't disregard it! First I'll beat your man, then become the AWA champion in SuperClash. I will literally be the star of the company!” Bischoff and Shawn improvised well in this segment and received positive feedback from the audience. SEGMENT - Michael Hayes, who came from WCW last week, cuts a promo in the ring. He tells Owen Hart that he doesn't want to leave the AWA without success, that he didn't come here as a trade wrestler to increase ticket revenues, and immediately offers Owen Hart a title match for tonight. Owen doesn't show up at first. But when Hayes, with his great promo skills, says bad words about the Hart family, Owen comes in anger and reveals his belt. No matter how much Jackie Fargo wants to prevent it, he cannot stop the angry Owen. AWA International Television Championship | Michael Hayes defeated Owen Hart (c) (w/Jackie Fargo) in 12:15 TITLE CHANGE!!! Hayes pinned Owen with Bulldog following interference from Jeff Jarrett. At the end of the match, Jarrett comes to the ringside. When Hayes takes his opponent under his arm to perform the Bulldog move, Jarrett hits Owen on the head with his chair from outside the ring, and then the pinfall comes in like this. Hayes thus shockingly seizes the belt!

It would be amazing if you marketed the World at War tag team match as "The Brain Busters vs. The Busted Brains". I didn't expect Owen Hart dropping the AWA Int. TV Championship for a special attraction, but I'm ok with it, it makes sense. It's getting interesting!

Cool shows! Those were a fun read. It's cool Sandman is gaining performance skills. God knows he needs them. Michael Hayes getting the victory over Owen Hart is a HUGE upset IMO but done well with the interference. I really liked the Taboo Hour show.

Arn Anderson, from WCW to AWA, speaks: "You remember what happened the last time I left here, Nick? They had a farewell party for us. It's like making fun of... How are the organizers of that party now? They'd kill each other if they could! "Look at us, there's no more copy of our friendship between Tully and I. It can't be! I mean, it's pretty obvious what's happened to those who messed with us. It's pretty obvious what happened to those who messed with us. Whether we win or lose, dealing with The Brain Busters has consequences. Now we're set to match two crazy people. Honestly." I respect crazy people. I want to help them and I do. After a while, we realize that Hayes was brought to the company by Jarrett to seize this belt and then deliver it to him. But Hayes bluntly says he won't give the belt to anyone without a clean pin in the ring and leaves. Jarrett, whose plans do not work, freezes in the ring in shock. Hayes gave an amazing performance. Jarrett looked lost out there. Dustin Rhodes defeated James Sandoval in 12:46 via DQ AWA World champion Larry Zbyszko, who came to the ring during the match, attacked Dustin, and the referee disqualified him. The duo continue to struggle on the ground after the match. With this match, Sandoval's rumble skills improved.
