Global Force Wrestling
History and Background
In April 2014, Jeff Jarrett departed from his role as minority investor with TNA Wrestling and subsequently debuted the branding of Global Force Wrestling. Jarrett began promoting the brand and establishing international partnerships with wrestling promotions across the world. The organization had a strategic partnership with 25/7 Productions and David Broome (creator of NBC's The Biggest Loser). After GFW was announced, Broome stated that the organization planned to create new on-air content 52 weeks per year.
On July 9, 2015, Jeff Jarrett announced that the name of GFW's television program was "Amped". The first tapings for Amped took place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 24, August 21, and October 23, 2015. These tapings were the beginning of success for Jarrett’s promotion. Broome, having a standing relationship with streaming service Netflix, pitched the concept of Global Force Wrestling to Netflix. The pitch was highly successful and Netflix executives saw the value of having a Netflix-exclusive wrestling promotion. As a result, GFW became the first ever Netflix original professional wrestling program, producing weekly episodic programs that appeal to both longtime wrestling fans and newcomers alike.
Now, nearly two years after its inception, Global Force Wrestling has developed a loyal fanbase that has come to appreciate the promotion for its high-octane action, compelling stories, and commitment to its fans. GFW has also assembled one of the best rosters in wrestling today, with an eclectic mix of familiar faces as well as exciting up-and-comers. With a brand new episode of Amped coming to Netflix each Tuesday of the week, GFW is building its reputation as being one of the most exciting, and forward-thinking wrestling promotions out there.
