Royal Rumble 2008 January 27, 2008 Madison Square Garden New York City, NY
*JBL d. Chris Jericho by Pinfall Following Bradshaw costing Y2J the WWE Championship the month before, Jericho quickly challenged the self-professed Wrestling God to a match at the Royal Rumble. Jericho used his athleticism and quickness to run circles around Bradshaw, but JBL managed to take advantage of an errant miscue when Jericho mistimed a springboard dropkick, targeting Jericho's knee and trying to ground him for the rest of the match. JBL locked Jericho in a half Boston Crab, twisting his knee in the process. Jericho fought back on one leg and managed to knock over JBL, though only briefly. Jericho managed to hit a Codebreaker on JBL and tried to lock in the Walls of Jericho, only for Bradshaw to grab at the feet of the referee to pull himself out. Jericho went to hit a spinning elbow on JBL, but Bradshaw ducked, resulting in Jericho almost hitting the ref. As Jericho tended to the official, JBL rebounded off the ropes and hit the Clothesline from Hell on Jericho, holding the tights as he cinched in the pin to pick up the victory.
*Ric Flair d. Mr. Kennedy by Submission in a Career Threatening Match Mr. Kennedy became the latest man to step up and challenge Ric Flair in an effort to end the Nature Boy's career. And he seemed to have the advantage going into the match, having attacked Ric Flair viciously on Raw and delivered a steel chair shot to the Nature Boy's head that left him concussed and left many to question whether or not he could compete. Flair made it to the ring, but it was obvious he was less than 100%. Kennedy nearly won after hitting the Mic Check on Flair, but the Nature Boy managed to kick out at the last possible second. Kennedy argued with the referee, but this merely gave Flair a chance to come back, as he clipped Kennedy's knee and worked it over, locking in the Figure-4 Leglock. Kennedy nearly reversed the hold, but Flair grabbed the ropes for extra leverage without the referee noticing (or possibly ignoring it), causing Kennedy to tap out and keeping Flair's career in tact yet again.
*John Morrison w/The Miz d. Hardcore Holly w/Cody Rhodes by Pinfall to Win the ECW World Title John Morrison had won a 12 man battle royal on ECW to become the new #1 contender to Hardcore Holly's ECW Championship, and extension of the feud between the two teams for the ECW World Tag Team Titles. The veteran started off the match well, hitting his signature power moves against the Parkour Prince. The Miz attempted to interfere, only to be interrupted by Cody Rhodes, causing a fight to break out. Holly came out to help his protege, but this distraction allowed Morrison to turn the tide on Holly. Morrison hit several high flying moves on the champion to wear him down, only to miss with Starship Pain which allowed a Holly comeback. Hardcore signaled for the Alabama Slam, but Miz hit Rhodes on the outside, causing another brawl. This distracted the referee long enough for Morrison to grab one of the ECW Tag Title belts from ringside and deck Holly with it, which netted him the win and the ECW World Championship.
*Mickie James d. Ashley Massaro by Pinfall to Retain the Divas Title Ashley Massaro had turned heel on Divas Champion Mickie James at Armageddon, aligning herself with the McCool/Layla faction of the Women's locker room and claiming to be coming back for the Divas Title that James had beaten her for the previous spring and summer. Massaro took note of the fact that she kayfabe broke Mickie's nose, forcing the champion to wear a protective mask during their title match. This mask would become a point of contention, as James was nearly disqualified for "using it as a weapon" when she headbutted Massaro, only for Ashley to remove the mask and attack the damaged face of the champion. Ashley eventually went for Starstruck, but James was able to roll out of the way. Mickie then made a comeback against the challenger and hit a Tornado Mick-DT for the win to retain the title.
*Randy Orton d. Jeff Hardy by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Jeff Hardy had won a Beat the Clock challenge on Raw to secure the #1 contendership to the WWE Championship, and had even secured a stipulation due to Orton's boasting that if the Legend Killer was disqualified or counted out, he would lose the title. Jeff Hardy was clearly the sentimental favorite going into the match, and used the fan support to fuel him in the early going feeling out process. Orton had the Daredevil well scouted, dodging an attempted Whisper in the Wind and causing Hardy to crash and burn. The champion then slowed down the match, almost to a deliberate pace, drawing out heat from the crowd, only for Hardy to get a huge pop when he hit a Twist of Fate out of nowhere for a near fall. Hardy made a comeback, hitting a Whisper in the Wind on the second attempt and seeming to be nearing victory. However an errant kick from Hardy caused the referee to go down, bringing out the Samoan Fight Club to help their friend, Randy Orton. They were intercepted by Matt Hardy and Cryme Tyme, who took them out of the equation as well. Hardy hit the Swanton Bomb for a visible three count, only for a masked man to come in and break up the pin before the ref could come to. The masked man then hit a Cobra Clutch Slam on Hardy and woke up the referee as Orton made the desperation cover, getting the pinfall. After the match, the man removed his mask to reveal WWE prospect Ted DiBiase Jr
*Edge d. Mark Henry by Cage Escape to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship After defeating Mark Henry the previous month with the help of Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, Edge felt that he was owed some "time off" from defending his title, and planned on sitting the Royal Rumble event out to have some "alone time" with Vickie Guerrero in the GM Suite box. This changed however when Stephanie McMahon returned on camera and announced that Teddy Long's health difficulties had been resolved, and that he was returning full time as the co-General Manager of Smackdown. Long then ordered Edge to defend the World Heavyweight Championship in a Steel Cage Match against the World's Strongest Man. With nowhere to run, Edge's title reign seemed to be on life support, as Henry tossed the champion around with little difficulty. Edge tried to fight back by targeting Henry's knee, which he had injured in the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble, and using Vickie Guerrero to pad lock the door so that Henry couldn't escape that way. Henry eventually made the comeback and hit the World's Strongest Slam on Edge and tried to climb the cage, only for his knee to give out and for him to plummet to the ground. Edge stirred and started scrambling his way to the top of the cage as Henry stirred and made his way to the door. Edge got halfway over the top when Mark, in a show of strength, ripped the door off its hinges in order to escape. However he was met by Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins, who each hit Henry in the head with a steel chair, causing him to topple sideways onto the apron unconscious, and giving Edge just enough time to finish climbing out of the cage to retain his title.
*John Cena Won the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match The first entrant of the Royal Rumble match was CM Punk, much to the delight of the New York crowd. Punk would put on a stellar performance as well, lasting all the way to near the end in a true Iron Man performance. Legends purveyed the Royal Rumble match as well, with Roddy Piper, Sgt. Slaughter, and the backstage inventor of the Rumble match itself Pat Patterson, all making appearances. But it was Ricky Steamboat, entering at number 18 and having a good showing for himself, that would last the most of the legends. One of the favorites, Triple H, was eliminated by Batista once The Animal entered the ring, much to the Game's frustration. In the end though the biggest shock was the unannounced arrival of John Cena to the proceedings, returning several months earlier than had originally been intended at number 30. Cena rode the momentum of his surprise and, in a reverse of the 2005 Royal Rumble ending, last eliminated Batista to win the Rumble match and secure his ticket to Wrestlemania, ending the show by celebrating in Madison Square Garden. No Way Out 2008 February 17, 2008 Thomas & Mack Center Paradise, NV
*Jeff Hardy d. Matt Hardy by Pinfall in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match Based on a bet between Raw GM William Regal and Smackdown Co-GM Vickie Guerrero, an interpromotional match was made between the two Hardy brothers to see which Hardy was the better one, with the added incentive that the winner would automatically qualify for the Money in the Bank ladder match at Wrestlemania XXIV. Though the two brothers had fought before, this encounter seemed a bit more intense than previous encounters, given the heightened stakes. Despite this, it ended abruptly. Matt Hardy attempted a Victory Roll on his brother, only for Jeff to sit down on the move and get the sudden pinfall. After the match, Jeff offered his hand to his brother, and after a moment of seeming reluctance, Matt took the hand offered.
*Michelle McCool w/Layla & Ashley Massaro d. Mickie James by Pinfall to Win the Divas Title Divas Champion Mickie James had been engaged in a feud with the trio of divas consisting of Michelle McCool, Layla and Ashley Massaro for a few months, and was set to defend her title against McCool (the seeming leader of the group) at No Way Out. It was clear from the beginning that the numbers game was going to be against the champion, and despite her best efforts, it would cost her the title. As the referee was distracted by Massaro, missing Mickie hitting McCool with a Chick Kick, Layla came in with the Divas title belt and nailed James in the back of the head, allowing McCool to get the pin. After the match, the three Divas looked to humiliate Mickie by cutting her head, only for the former champion to be surprisingly saved by Beth Phoenix, who chased the three out of the ring, leaving James to stare at her as to what her intentions might be.
*Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] & The Colons [Carlito & Primo] Wrestled to a No Contest [Cryme Tyme Retains the World Tag Team Titles Carlito's younger brother, Primo, had recently made his debut on WWE television. The two Colon brothers formed a team to challenge Cryme Tyme for the World Tag Team Titles, and for the first 8 minutes of the match, it was an evenly paced affair full of back and forth action. Unfortunately the match was then interrupted by the Samoan Fight Club, who attacked both teams and left them both lying, resulting in a No Contest. The former champions then posed with the belts after the match.
*Mark Henry d. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder by Pinfall in a Handicap Match After costing the World's Strongest Man the World Heavyweight Championship two months in a row, the team of Hawkins and Ryder (colloquially known as The Edgeheads) were put into a handicap match against Mark Henry by Smackdown co-General Manager Theodore Long. Despite Henry dealing with an injured knee and having to face a 2 on 1 advantage, Henry was able to overcome the odds and hit the two with the World's Strongest Slam, one after the other, to pick up the double pinfall.
*Floyd Mayweather Segment In between matches, the camera showed that Floyd "Money" Mayweather was present in the crowd for the No Way Out show. This occured when Shane McMahon came out to announce the attendance figures for the show. Shane-o-Mac came to ringside to attempt to converse with Mayweather, and when Money "snubbed" him, Shane insulted Mayweather then and there. A fistfight nearly broke out between the two that security eventually had to break up.
*Ric Flair d. John Bradshaw Leyfield by Pinfall William Regal was determined to see Ric Flair's career end, and in order to do so he co-opted Smackdown star John Bradshaw Leyfield to challenge Flair to a match, with the added stipulation that while Flair could be disqualified, JBL could not. The self-professed wrestling God took full advantage of that stipulation, wearing out Flair's back with a steel chair and nearly getting a pinfall after busting open the Nature Boy. However Flair refused to go down and targeted the knee of JBL, only for Bradshaw to level Flair with a backdrop. JBL went for the Clothesline from Hell, and inadvertently nailed the referee instead, allowing Flair to hit a low blow on the former champion. Flair then locked in the Figure 4, causing JBL to tap out, but with no referee present. Regal came to ringside (before his own scheduled match) and interfered, only for Flair to be saved by Chris Jericho, who leveled both JBL and Regal with a steel chair of his own. Flair then pinned JBL as the ref came too, resulting in his career continuing yet again.
*CM Punk d. William Regal by Pinfall to Win the Intercontinental Title William Regal remained at ringside, lamenting the outcome of the previous match, and took offense at Floyd Mayweather at ringside laughing at his misfortune. Another fight nearly broke out, only for CM Punk's music to interrupt the proceedings, as Regal had to defend his IC Title. Regal had taken exception to the newer superstar after Punk had eliminated him during his marathon run in the Royal Rumble match the previous month. Punk controlled the early part of the match, but an underhanded low blow behind the ref's back caused the tide to turn and gave the upper hand to the champion. Regal then applied several submission holds to Punk, only for the Second City Saint to counter with submissions of his own. The ref went down after an errant strike from the challenger, and Regal donned his brass knuckles for the Power of the Punch. This caused Mayweather to intervene, as he jumped the guardrail and came into the ring, daring Regal to hit him. Regal took aim with the brass knucks and swung a haymaker at Mayweather, but Floyd ducked and delivered a body blow that left Regal gasping for air before leaving the ring. Punk then scooped up Regal and hit the GTS for the win as the ref came too, winning the Intercontinental Title as well.
*Edge d. The Undertaker, Kane, Rey Mysterio, MVP & Chuck Palumbo in an Elimination Chamber Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Title Edge was forced to defend his World Heavyweight Championship in an Elimination Chamber match, by order of Smackdown co-GM Theodore Long. Amazingly, Batista wasn't included in the match, as he lost his qualifying match to Chuck Palumbo on Smackdown as a result of a distraction from Raw superstar Triple H, who was visiting Smackdown that night for "personal" reasons (namely being there with his wife, Stephanie McMahon). Rey Mysterio was another star to interact with Floyd Mayweather at ringside, but this interaction was wholly positive, as Mayweather was there as a guest for Rey and sported a Mysterio T-shirt. - MVP & Rey Mysterio entered the Chamber at numbers 1 and 2 respectively - Kane entered the Chamber at number 3. - Chuck Palumbo entered the Chamber at number 4. - Edge entered the Chamber at number 5 - The Undertaker entered the Chamber at number 6. - The Undertaker d. Chuck Palumbo by Pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver - Edge d. Kane by Pinfall with a Spear - MVP d. Rey Mysterio by Pinfall with a Playmaker on the Steel Grating. - The Undertaker d. MVP by Pinfall with a Last Ride. - Edge d. The Undertaker by Pinfall with a Spear following outside interference from Chavo Guerrero and Bam Neely, who entered the chamber after Vickie Guerrero unlocked the door for them.
*Randy Orton d. Triple H by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Triple H had been named #1 contender to the WWE Championship following the Royal Rumble, which was made more interesting when Rumble winner John Cena announced that he would challenge for the WWE Title at Wrestlemania XXIV. To "spice things up" Raw GM William Regal ordered Cena to be the Special Guest Referee for the match between Orton and Triple H, with the added stipulation that if Cena showed favortism to either man, he would be stripped of his Wrestlemania title shot. Cena did his best to call the match down the middle, despite Orton doing everything in his power to get under Cena's skin. Cena only got physically involved when Ted DiBiase Jr attempted to get involved, as Cena forcefully ejected him from ringside. In the closing moments, Orton argued with Cena after Triple H kicked out of an RKO, and then shoved the #1 contender into the corner. Cena tried hard to control his temper, only for Orton to be knocked into Cena when Triple H hit him with a knee to the back. Triple H then hit a Pedigree, but Cena was unavailable to make the cover. From out of the crowd came The Animal Batista, bringing Triple H's signature sledge hammer with him. Batista proceeded to drill Triple H in the back of the head with the sledge hammer, before placing Orton's hand over the fallen game. Cena came too and, not knowing what had happened, reluctantly counted the three for Orton, giving the Legend Killer the win. After the match, Cena raised Orton's hand in victory, only to pull him into an FU and nail him with it, before posing with the title belt to close the show.
Off-Camera Title Changes February 29: Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder d. Kane & Rey Mysterio for the WWE Tag Team Titles March 4: The Boom Squad d. John Morrison & The Miz for the ECW World Tag Team Titles March 14: Umaga d. MVP for the United States Title

Note: I forgot to include a planned JBL vs. Chris Jericho match on the Wrestlemania card. So that won't count for Predictions...for whatever that's worth.WWE Wrestlemania XXIV March 30, 2008 Orlando Citrus Bowl Orlando, FL
*PRE-SHOW: Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] d. The Samoan Fight Club [Manu & Sim Snuka] & The Colons [Carlito & Primo] by Pinfall to Retain the World Tag Team Titles After interfering in the World Tag Team Title match a month before, The Samoan Fight Club were set to face both Cryme Tyme and The Colons for the belts in a triple threat match. Though the champs were on the ropes for much of the match, the six man free for all prevented any of the other teams from winning the titles at any point. Snuka hit his Superfly splash from the top on Primo, but walked right into a Backstabber from Carlito that took him out of the match. Manu then took out Carlito with a Samoan drop, only to be caught by a Drive-By Lariat from Shad Gaspard. JTG then followed that up with a Brooklyn Blockbuster to pick up the win and retain the titles.
*CM Punk d. Shelton Benjamin by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title Wrestlemania proper got underway with the Intercontinental Title on the line. The self-professed Gold Standard had been one of the few people to pin CM Punk since he arrived on Monday Night Raw from ECW, having done so in both a non-title match and in a six man tag match leading into Wrestlemania. In a highly athletic encounter, Benjamin seemingly had the match won after hitting CM Punk with his Paydirt finisher. But Punk was able to get his feet on the ropes, breaking the count. Punk then made a comeback after countering a top rope cross body with a dropkick, eventually hitting Benjamin with the GTS and retaining the title in a hard fought victory.
*Chris Jericho d. John Bradshaw Leyfield in an Orlando Street Fight Chris Jericho and JBL had been feuding off and on for the better part of six months, with JBL having cost Jericho the WWE Title back in December, and Jericho stopping JBL from retiring Ric Flair in February, leading to this Orlando Street Fight between the two at Wrestlemania. Despite the hardcore environment favoring JBL, Jericho was able to outwrestle Bradshaw and utilize more of his high flying ability to eventually hit JBL with a Lionsault pick up the victory.
*John Morrison w/The Miz d. Cody Rhodes w/Hardcore Holly by Pinfall to Retain the ECW World Title After Hardcore Holly had failed to win the ECW title on numerous occasions, his protege Cody Rhodes was given the opportunity at Wrestlemania. Despite his inexperience, Rhodes showed a level of in-ring awareness that belied his youth. However it would be outside interference that would dictate the outcome of the match, as Holly got into a fight with Morrison's tag team partner The Miz on the outside. This allowed the referee to miss an obvious pinfall when Rhodes had Morrison beat after a snap DDT. Rhodes went to get the referee, and when he came back Morrison caught Cody with a small package and picked up the surprise win to retain the title. After the match, a frustrated Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly had an argument, and when it seemed like cooler heads would prevail, Cody hit Holly with his own Alabama Slam finisher and left in anger.
*Jeff Hardy d. Mr. Kennedy, Ted DiBiase Jr., Umaga, Matt Hardy, MVP, The Brian Kendrick & Mark Henry in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match to Win the Money in the Bank Briefcase The annual Money in the Bank match saw eight men try and win the golden ticket suspended high above the ring. In the early going, the match was down to the new US Champion Umaga and the World's Strongest Man Mark Henry, as they squared up to each other in an attempt to showcase dominance. In the end, Henry would take both of them out of the match with a powerful tackling spear through the barricade that left both men down and out. Every other competitor attempted to pick their spot, but most found their way into being cut off by other competitors. One memorable spot near the end saw MVP nearly grab the briefcase, only for Matt Hardy to deliver a Twist of Fate from the top of a ladder, taking them both out. This left Ted DiBiase Jr as the last man standing, as he tried to climb the ladder, only to meet Jeff Hardy who jumped from the top rope onto the ladder Spider-Man style to intercept the third generation star. Hardy then managed to suplex DiBiase off the top of the ladder, maintaining his balance long enough to grab the briefcase himself and pull it down, picking up the win.
*Triple H d. Batista by Pinfall The feud between Batista and Triple H seemingly had renewed itself at the Royal Rumble, when The Animal had eliminated The Game from the Rumble match. Batista then would go on to cost Triple H the WWE Championship as their war of words increased. Batista pointed out that Triple H had never beaten him, and that he hadn't won a world title since Batista took the World Heavyweight Championship from him three years earlier. The Game then challenged The Animal to a No Disqualification Match, to prove that he was the better man once and for all. A knock down drag out fight ensued with both men being busted open at various points in the match. Batista prepared to end the match with a Batista Bomb onto some steel steps, but Triple H was able to counter the move with a low blow. He then delivered a sledge hammer shot to the side of Batista's head before following up with a Pedigree to pick up the win.
*Kane & The Big Show d. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder w/Chavo Guerrero to Win the WWE Tag Team Titles Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder had won the WWE Tag Team Titles with the aide of William Regal and Shane McMahon in their ongoing feud with Rey Mysterio. With the luchadore otherwise occupied, The Big Red Machine Kane promised that he would find a new partner to take back the titles from the self-professed Edgeheads. As it turned out, Kane's partner would be the returning Big Show. The two giants easily crushed Hawkins and Ryder, hitting stereo chokeslams on the champions to easily win the titles. After the match, when Chavo Guerrero attempted to intervene, he ate a Right Hand of Doom from The Big Show and then ate a Tombstone from Kane for good measure.
*Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Victoria & Natalya d. Michelle McCool, Layla, Ashley Massaro & Melina by Submission The 2nd generation Diva Natalya Neidhart had debuted on Raw, earning a victory over Melina in a huge upset victory. Natalya was quickly recruited into the growing gang warfare between Michelle McCool's faction and that of Mickie James, eventually siding with James and her former rival Beth Phoenix, leading to this 8 Diva Tag Match. Amidst the all out brawl that the match turned into, a miscommunication between McCool and Ashley Massaro led to their downfall, as Massaro accidentally hit McCool with the Divas Title belt. Massaro was then tripped up by Natalya who locked in a Sharpshooter on the former champion, picking up the submission victory.
*The Undertaker d. Edge w/Vickie Guerrero by Submission to Win the World Heavyweight Title After costing The Undertaker the World Heavyweight Title at Elimination Chamber, Edge claimed that he was done fighting the Phenom. The Undertaker however played psychological mind games with the Rated R Superstar, offering him the chance to immortalize himself by being the one to end the Undertaker's vaunted Wrestlemania streak. Against Vickie Guerrero's wishes, Edge accepted the match. The two were evenly paced throughout, and it looked as if Edge might pull off the unbelievable when Hawkins and Ryder came back to ringside to help the leader of La Familia, but it only resorted in a two count. After several more back and forth minutes, Edge looked to hit one more Spear on The Deadman, only for The Undertaker to catch Edge in the Hell's Gate Submission hold. Edge fought to maintain consciousness, but eventually had to succumb, tapping out and giving The Undertaker yet another Wrestlemania win, and the World Heavyweight Title in the process.
*Shawn Michaels d. Ric Flair by Pinfall in a Career Threatening Match Shortly after No Way Out, Shawn Michaels came out on an episode of Raw, lamenting the fact that he didn't have a Wrestlemania opponent. This open challenge was answered by Ric Flair, who challenged Michaels to a match. HBK was reluctant to accept the challenge, knowing that the next match Flair lost would be his last. Flair retorted by saying that if he couldn't beat the best, then he didn't deserve to be called The Man anymore, leading Michaels to accept the match. Flair fought valiantly, but Michaels clearly outclassed him for much of the match, only for Flair to refuse to stay down. Finally, Michaels appeared ready to hit Sweet Chin Music, only to hesitate, seemingly unwilling to end Flair's career. Flair staggered to his feet, demanding Michaels hit him. Michaels mouthed the words "I'm sorry, I love you" to Flair, before delivering the Superkick and getting the three count, ending the Nature Boy's career. After Michaels left, Flair got to his feet amidst tears and a standing ovation from the crowd, leaving to the back one final time.
*Rey Mysterio & Floyd Mayweather Jr. d. William Regal & Shane McMahon by Pinfall At No Way Out, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr had been the personal guest of Rey Mysterio and had gotten physically involved with both Shane McMahon and William Regal. Later that week on Smackdown, Mayweather was again in attendance, invited there by Shane McMahon. Shane-o-Mac challenged Mayweather to a fight in the ring, only to be knocked out in one punch. Raw GM Regal then invaded and ordered Mayweather be arrested, taking a pot shot at the champion as he was led away in handcuffs. Eventually the challenge was made for a tag match at Wrestlemania, with Regal teaming with Shane and Mysterio teaming with Mayweather, echoing the Wrestlemania 1 main event of Hogan and Mr. T facing Piper and Orndorff. Shane McMahon even tried to get the one up on his opponents by appointing Tampa native and WWE Hall of Famer Paul Orndorff to be the Special Guest Referee, thinking that he was in the back for Shane's team. Orndorff however proved to be a fair official, nullifying the younger McMahon's plans. Regal and Mysterio worked most of the match, but Mayweather eventually got in the ring with both men and mixed it up with them with a good amount of offense. In the end, Mayweather squared up to Shane when McMahon tried the Shane-o-Mac shuffle on him, only to take an uppercut that sent him sprawling into the ropes. Mysterio then hit the 619, while Mayweather climbed to the second rope and hit a flying clothesline to Shane that finally knocked him out, securing the pinfall win.
*John Cena d. Randy Orton by Pinfall to Win the WWE Championship After John Cena had refereed the match between Randy Orton and Triple H at No Way Out, he delivered an FU to the WWE Champion, solidifying his choice of champion to challenge in the main event of Wrestlemania XXIV. A contract signing was held, after which it was revealed by Raw GM William Regal that a clause had been added that if Cena attacked Orton, their match would be made non-title. Orton then spent weeks trying to goad Cena into attacking him, only for Cena to keep his cool. On the go home episode of Raw, Orton slapped Cena, causing Cena to reveal that Orton's physical assault of Cena had nullified the no-contact clause, leading to a pull apart brawl. The two men were evenly matched, despite Cena attempting to end the match early with both an FU and an STF, as well as Orton attempting the RKO early on. Orton took control after targeting Cena's surgically repaired pectoral muscle, focusing on the ribs of the challenger. Cena made a comeback though and attempted a Five Knuckle Suffle, only for Manu to appear at ringside as a distraction. After dispatching Orton's ally, Cena turned around right into an RKO, but the move only got a two count. Orton then lined up to hit Cena with a Punt Kick, but Cena moved out of the way and caught Orton with an FU, which still only got a two count. Both men fought back and forth, with Orton setting up for a move off the top. Cena caught him on the top rope though and eventually hit an FU from the top rope to pick up the win and regain the WWE Championship, seemingly ending the Age of Orton and celebrating to close the show.
