No Mercy 2007 October 7, 2007
Allstate Arena
Chicago, Illinois
No Mercy begins with a video package using “Ties That Bind” by Alter Bridge to go over the big matches of the night. Shots of Lashley slamming Cena, Triple H & Umaga brawling, and The Undertaker returning to hit a Tombstone on Edge are prominent. After the video, pyro goes off, and 'Good 'Ol' JR and Jerry 'The King' Lawler lead us into the PPV. (90%)
MATCH 1: Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy (79%, 3*)
Moments later, 'Loaded' hits the Allstate Arena and the Chicago crowd pops as Jeff Hardy will kick off the action. Hardy makes his way down before a loud KENNEDYYYYY cuts off Hardy's theme as 'Turn Up The Trouble' begins playing. Mr. Kennedy makes his entrance and while the crowd boos, they still chant when he does his classic announcement of his name.
The bell rings and the match begins with Jeff Hardy flying into Kennedy with a forearm. Hardy clearly hasn't forgotten about Kennedy's ambush on Monday. The forearm knocked Kennedy back into the corner and Hardy continued punching Kennedy down until he slid into a seated position. Hardy then hit Kennedy with his 'Hardyac Arrest' rope-aided corner dropkick.
Kennedy held his mouth as he slid under the rope and to the outside. Kennedy was trying to distance himself from Hardy but Jeff went right out after him, clubbing him from behind. Kennedy stumbled to around the start of the entrance aisle and Hardy ran up on the barricade and jumped off to hit Kennedy with a crossbody. Hardy played to the crowd, who was loving the early beatdown of Kennedy.
Hardy tossed Kennedy back in the ring and then got on the apron and used the ropes to launch himself over to hit Kennedy with a slingshot leg drop. A cover got a two-count and Hardy then picked Kennedy up. Hardy went for some sort of suplex but Kennedy used his foot to block it. Hardy tried to lift Kennedy up again, but Kennedy stopped progress and turned it into his own suplex.
Finally, with some control, Kennedy started stomping away at a prone Hardy. Kennedy was hurling insults towards Hardy and then dropped an elbow to Hardy's heart. Kennedy then went off the ropes and dropped a knee right to Hardy's face. Kennedy picked up Hardy and whipped him super hard into the corner. Hardy hit hard and held his back as he flopped to the canvas.
Kennedy picked up Hardy and hit him with a neckbreaker. A cover got a two-count and then Kennedy tried another pin right away and got another near-fall. Kennedy would then lock in a reverse chinlock and continue his verbal barrage as he applied pressure. The crowd started trying to will Hardy into working his way out and after getting halfway up, Kennedy intentionally broke the hold for a second to hit Hardy in the back of the head with a forearm.
Kennedy put the hold back on but the second time the crowd got loud, Hardy would get up and break the hold by turning it into his signature sitout jawbreaker. Both men were down as referee Jack Doan started a ten-count. Both men rose to their feet and started to strike each other back and forth as the crowd cheered Hardy and booed Kennedy. Kennedy then snuck a knee lift to the midsection of Hardy and stopped his momentum.
Kennedy then went to whip Hardy hard into the turnbuckle again but this time Hardy used his athleticism to jump up on the ropes and hit a 'Whisper in the Wind' to Kennedy! Hardy landed in a position to pin Kennedy but Kennedy just got the shoulder up before the three. After the close call, Hardy got Kennedy up and attempted to hit the 'Twist of Fate' but when Hardy rotated, Kennedy shoved Hardy off.
Kennedy then charged at Hardy but Hardy side-stepped and Kennedy put on the brakes as he almost squashed referee Doan in the corner. Kennedy put his hands up to avoid contact but stayed in the corner and talked to the ref for a second. Hardy went over to the corner and when Kennedy felt Hardy, he blocked Doan's view and kicked backward to low-blow Hardy. With Hardy keeled over in pain, Kennedy would nail him with the 'Mic Check' to steal the win.
WINNER – Mr. Kennedy by pinfall in 11:04
Mr. Kennedy celebrates the win and then the camera cuts to Josh Mathews who has World Heavyweight Champion, Edge standing with him. Mathews asks Edge about his match with The Undertaker tonight and inquires about the effect of the mind games that Undertaker is playing. Edge quickly shuts that down and gets mad with Mathews before saying they don't call him the 'Master Manipulator' for nothing. Edge says he has a plan in motion and that The Undertaker is going to find out that not even he can beat him in a mental game of chess. (91%)
MATCH 2: Matt Hardy (c) vs. Mark Henry for the United States Championship (71%, 1.5*)
'Some Bodies Gonna Get It' hits and 'The World's Strongest Man,' Mark Henry makes his way down. Henry faces Matt Hardy for the United States Championship and the champ makes his way out. Hardy has an expression on his face knowing that this will be a helluva feat for him to retain as referee Charles Robinson showcases the championship belt.
The bell rings and Henry and Hardy lock up. Henry shoves Hardy to the ground and he laughs as Hardy had a flustered look. Hardy got up and charged at Henry and the second lock-up resulted in Hardy being thrown down again. Hardy then came at Henry with an eruption of strikes but after an initial flurry, Henry grabbed Hardy and threw him into the corner.
Henry hit a couple of back elbows to the face of Hardy and then began to choke Hardy until referee Charles Robinson forced Henry to break. Henry then went to the opposite corner and charged to hit a splash but Hardy moved and Henry bounced his head off the top turnbuckle. On the rebound, Hardy kicked Henry in the gut and then dropped him with a DDT.
Hardy then got up on the middle rope, did his taunt, and hit Henry with his signature middle-rope leg drop. Hardy went for a cover but Henry threw him off at just one and Hardy was shocked. Trying to figure out how to keep Henry down, Hardy went back to the middle rope and waited for Henry to get to his feet. Hardy was gonna drop the point of his elbow but Henry caught him out of mid-air and applied a bearhug.
Henry had Hardy in the bearhug for about a minute before Hardy started to fade. Referee Charles Robinson went to check on Hardy and lifted his arm up but Hardy stopped it from falling limp and started to charge back up. Hardy used his head to headbutt Henry a couple of times before Henry released the hold. Hardy then went off the ropes and dropkicked Henry's left leg, knocking him down to one knee.
Hardy tried to hit a 'Twist of Fate' on Henry but like his brother Jeff in the previous match, the attempt was unsuccessful as Henry didn't allow Hardy to rotate and lifted him up over his head. Hardy still had a grip around Henry's head but Henry used his strength to break the grip and turn it into a Military Press Drop. Hardy took a nasty fall and Henry then followed it up by going off the ropes and hitting a big splash.
With Hardy pretty much out cold, Henry could have won right there but he decided to pick up Hardy and hit him with a 'World's Strongest Slam' for good measure. Henry gave a menacing look as he made the cover and finished off Hardy to become the NEW United States Champion.
WINNER – Mark Henry by pinfall in 8:58 ***NEW UNITED STATES CHAMPION***
Henry grabs the belt and lifts it up as he roars and celebrates his first United States Championship victory. Replays are shown as Michael Cole and Ernest 'The Cat' Miller go over just how dominant 'The World's Strongest Man was in this match. Henry poses at the top of the entrance stage before Cole and Cat begin talking about the next match between Michelle McCool and Victoria. The camera then cuts to the front row of the crowd and Cole loses his train of thought as a 'VIP' section has apparently been set up. There are bodyguards in front of the red velvet stanchions as MVP and Kristal appear and are let into the area. The crowd starts booing when they see them on the titantron and Cole calls MVP a 'homewrecker.' Cole was about to call Kristal a name but Cat cut him off and defended the duo. The two sat as the next match was about to begin. (77%)
MATCH 3: Michelle McCool vs. Victoria (62%, 1*)
Victoria's music hits as the crazed diva made her way down to the ring for a match with Michelle McCool. The feud has gone on for a couple of months now since McCool's debut and it was Victoria's jealousy of McCool getting more spotlight than her that intensified her hatred. McCool made her way out to a nice crowd reaction and that seemed to irk Victoria even more as the bell rang.
The two ladies locked up and Victoria applied a side headlock before McCool shot her off the ropes. Victoria would knock down McCool with a shoulder block and then hit a quick elbow drop. Victoria then picked up McCool and dropped her with a scoop slam before applying a rear chinlock. Referee Jimmy Korderas would yell at Victoria when she started to fishhook McCool's nose and pull up on it.
Eventually, McCool got back up to a vertical base and elbowed Victoria in the midsection a couple of times to break her hold. McCool went to send her off the ropes but Victoria reversed and sent McCool off the ropes. On the rebound, McCool slid through the legs of Victoria and ended up behind her in position to hit a Russian legsweep. McCool floated over into a pin and got a near-fall.
McCool then showed her power when she lifted Victoria up in a vertical suplex position and held Victoria in the air for about 15 seconds before slamming her to the mat. Victoria then rolled over to the corner and used the ropes to assist her in getting up.
McCool went over to the corner and hit Victoria with a couple of punches and then attempted to whip her out of the corner but Victoria, the crafty veteran, hooked her free arm around the ropes and when McCool pulled again, Victoria blocked, and used McCool's momentum against her like a game of tug-of-war and pulled her in to drop toehold her face-first into the middle turnbuckle.
Victoria then pulled McCool towards the middle of the ring and locked in a bridging reverse chinlock. This was a submission that Victoria just showcased the other night on Smackdown! to pick up a victory. Victoria started cranking back on McCool's neck but she was not giving up. McCool was desperately scratching and clawing to the ropes but it appeared she was running out of steam. After Referee Korderas checked on her, she stayed alive and finally reached out to get a rope break.
Victoria was irate and kept the hold locked in until a four count and then started arguing with Korderas. Victoria looked like she was “seeing red” and wanted to finish McCool off. Victoria picked McCool up and got set to hit 'Widow's Peak' but McCool broke off and turned her positioning into a backslide cover to get a close near-fall.
Both ladies quickly got up but when Victoria charged at McCool she was caught with a big boot right to the face. McCool recuperated first and picked Victoria up to hit her with the 'Wings of Love' double underhook sitout facebuster to get the big victory at No Mercy.
WINNER – Michelle McCool by pinfall in 7:27
After McCool celebrated the victory, the camera cut back to Jim Ross and Jerry 'The King' Lawler as they set the stage for the next contest between 'The Game' Triple H and 'The Samoan Bulldozer' Umaga. After a graphic of the match is shown, a video package is played detailing their lengthy feud so far. (86%)
MATCH 4: Triple H vs. Umaga w/Armando Alejandro Estrada (86%, 3*)
Umaga makes his way down to the ring with his manager Armando Alejandro Estrada before 'The Game' by Motorhead echoes through the arena as Triple H makes his entrance. Triple H would get on the apron to do his signature water spray but Umaga attacks him from behind and knocks him off the apron!
Triple H bounces face-first off the barricade and the music stops as the lights come up. Estrada is now barking orders to Umaga and 'The Samoan Bulldozer' goes right to the outside to start beating up on Triple H. Umaga has mounted Hunter and is raining down heavy strikes while referee Mike Chioda tries to get him to stop so the match can officially begin.
Umaga then lifts HHH and drops him on his sternum over the barricade. The damage has been done and Umaga rolls Triple H back into the ring. Once Umaga re-entered, Chioda went over to Triple H and asked him if he wanted to start and Triple H got to his feet and waved his head. Chioda rang the bell and Umaga made a beeline towards Hunter, splashing him in the corner.
Triple H was now down to a seated position and Umaga went to the opposite corner before charging and hitting a running hip attack. The impact whiplashed HHH's head and neck and referee Chioda went back over to Triple H and backed Umaga up. Chioda looked as if he was going to call for the bell but Triple H grabbed Chioda and gave him a look that convinced him to keep it going.
Umaga ran at Hunter again but this time Triple H moved out of the way and Umaga overshot and hit the top of his head on the metal ring post. Both men were now down and the crowd was back into it, willing Triple H on. Both men got to their feet at the same time and began to trade blows. After Umaga nailed Triple H with a right, Hunter stumbled back but then rebounded off the ropes to hit Umaga with his classic high knee.
Triple H then lifted his arms as the crowd went crazy and waited for Umaga to get up. Triple H booted Umaga in the gut and tried to lock his arms for a 'Pedigree' attempt but Umaga escaped and rolled out of the ring. Triple H then went out on a different side and ran around the corner to clothesline Umaga on the floor. Estrada came over and was yelling but he scurried away when he saw Hunter head towards him.
Umaga started using the steel steps to work his way up and Triple H walked up to the top and stomped his hand, causing Umaga to yell out in agony and shake his hand. Referee Chioda was warning Triple H to get the action back into the ring but Triple H then decided to Irish Whip Umaga into the steel steps. Umaga hit shoulder-first and the impact sent the top section flying off.
Triple H rolled back in to break the count and then grabbed Umaga and threw him over the RAW announce table. Umaga landed in the laps of JR and King and as the two got up and moved out of the way, Triple H removed the cover on the table. Triple H stood atop the table and grabbed Umaga and was going to attempt a 'Pedigree' through the table just like last month at Unforgiven.
However, Umaga spun out of it and then nailed Triple H with a 'Samoan Spike' out of nowhere. Triple H fell backward and ended up on prone on the ECW table. Referee Chioda had begun his count and yelled at Umaga to bring the action back in but Estrada then yelled at Chioda and then barked some more instructions to 'The Samoan Bulldozer.'
Umaga then went to the Smackdown! announce table on the far end and removed the cover and items on it. Umaga got on top of the Smackdown! table and traversed over both tables to hit a running splash to Triple H, collapsing the ECW table. The move got an audible reaction from the crowd as referee Chioda rang the bell for a double countout.
RESULT – Draw by double countout in 13:43
Umaga got to his feet and let out a primal scream as Triple H was left gasping for air. Umaga and Estrada started to walk away from the scene as medical assistance came down to aid Triple H. After Triple H was helped up and refused assistance to the back, the camera then cut to Todd Grisham who was standing by with the WWE Champion, John Cena. Grisham started to ask Cena about his title defense tonight but Cena asked to grab the mic. Cena says that tonight is going to be one of his toughest challenges yet but hypes up the Chicago crowd by telling them that they are going to see a fight. Cena finishes his promo with his classic “THE CHAMP IS HERE” and it appears Cena is pumped up for his title defense tonight. (87%)
MATCH 5: Batista & Ric Flair (c) vs. Deuce & Domino w/Cherry for the WWE Tag Team Championship (73%, 1.5*)
Deuce & Domino's music hits and the duo along with Cherry come out to try and reclaim their WWE Tag Team Titles. 'I Walk Alone' hits and 'The Animal' Batista enters. After setting off his pyro, the classic theme of 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair hits and the tag champs head down to the ring.
Batista starts the match while Deuce & Domino are at odds at who should start as it appears neither wants a part of 'The Animal.' Eventually, Deuce decides to start and after locking up with Batista, he is shoved into a corner. Batista starts with some shoulder thrusts and then tosses him out of the corner to the mat below. Deuce quickly crawls to his corner and tags Domino in, who is less than enthused.
Domino feigns a test of strength with Batista before booting him in the gut. Domino then clubs the back of Batista's neck and drops 'The Animal' to a knee. Domino rebounds off the ropes and hits a leg lariat putting Batista to the mat. A quick cover gets a one-count and Domino goes right into a sleeper hold.
After about 30 seconds, Batista powers his way to his feet and drops Domino with a back suplex. Both Flair and Deuce are tagged in and 'The Nature Boy' starts by knocking Deuce down with a trio of knife-edge chops. Flair goes off the ropes to hit a jumping knee drop and then starts working on Deuce's leg. Flair drops a knee to the inside of Deuce's leg and then wrenches it to potentially set up for the Figure Four.
Flair got Deuce up for a suplex attempt but Deuce blocked it and punched Flair in the midsection to break Flair's grip. Flair then tried to re-engage but Deuce flipped Flair over his head with a back body drop. From here the former tag champs started to isolate 'Naitch and continued to make quick tags.
After a couple more minutes of working on Flair together, Deuce tagged in Domino and set up a double-team move where Domino would jump off the middle rope but Flair punched Deuce and then Flair grabbed Domino and slammed him off the rope. Batista started to stomp the steel steps and the crowd willed Flair to make the hot tag to Batista.
Batista came into the ring and knocked both Deuce and Domino down with shoulder blocks. Batista then clotheslined Deuce out of the ring and caught a charging Domino with a massive spinebuster. Batista then shook the ropes and appeared to be set to hit a 'Batista Bomb' but he looked at Flair and tagged him in. Flair would apply the Figure-Four leglock and Domino would tap moments later allowing the tag champs to retain.
WINNERS – Batista & Ric Flair by submission in 10:32

Joey Styles and Tazz greet us after the promo and make a joke about a new table being set up for them. The focus then goes on the next contest as it is time for the Hardcore Championship match as CM Punk takes on Paul Burchill. Burchill made his mark a few weeks ago, attacking Punk, and has gotten the upper hand on a couple of different occasions. (85%)
MATCH 6: CM Punk (c) vs Paul Burchill for the Hardcore Championship (75%, 2*)
'This Fire Burns' hits and the hometown crowd goes crazy for their guy, the 'Second City Saint' CM Punk. Punk is standing in the ring doing his wrist roll intently awaiting Burchill but when Burchill's music hits, he doesn't come out right away. Punk is wondering what is going on and moments later, Burchill slides into the ring behind Punk. Punk senses it and turns around but he is dropped with a big boot.
The bell rings and Burchill starts raining down rights and lefts on Punk but Punk kicks it into another gear and reverses the mount and gets on top of Burchill and starts striking himself. Burchill quickly rolls out of the ring but as soon as he gets up, Punk goes off the ropes and hits a suicide dive.
Punk goes right under the ring to grab a kendo stick and now it is time he gets his revenge on Burchill. The crowd cheers as he welts Burchill's back with multiple swings. Burchill gets up using the metal ring post and Punk goes to swing at his head but Burchill ducks and Punk snaps the kendo stick when it hits the post. This allows Burchill to hit Punk with a strike to the throat and then Burchill shoves Punk face-first into the ring post.
Burchill goes under the ring to pull out a crowbar. Burchill smacks it over the head of Punk and CM is busted open! Burchill gets back on top of Punk and hits some more rights to open the wound more. Burchill then starts ripping up the mats on the outside and exposes some concrete before suplexing Punk on the concrete.
Burchill goes for a cover but gets a two-count, much to his chagrin. Burchill now pulls out a table and the crowd starts chanting “EC-Dub, EC-Dub.” Burchill sets Punk on the table and then rolls back in the ring and climbs the top rope. Burchill jumps off, attempting an elbow drop but Punk moves and Burchill crashes through the wood.
Both men are now down and the crowd starts a “CM Punk!” chant. Punk would get to his feet first and with blood dripping from his face, he picks up Burchill and drapes him on the apron. Punk hits a couple of elbows to Burchill's face and then he climbs up on the apron. Punk gets Burchill up inside the ring and from the apron, Punk suplexes Burchill over the top rope and both men crash on the concrete opening.
A “Holy Shit!” chant begins as both men are virtually motionless. Punk hates Burchill so much that he sacrificed his own body. Referee Scott Armstrong checks on both men and Punk is starting to stir. Punk flips Burchill on his stomach and to finish him off, Punk grabs both of Burchill's arms up and hits him with his own 'Curbstomp' right on the concrete.
Punk makes the cover and mercifully this one is over as Punk gets his payback and retains the Hardcore Championship.
WINNER – CM Punk by pinfall in 9:30
After Punk stumbles away, celebrating with the Hardcore title, Burchill is attended to at ringside. He gets sat up and then once he shakes off the cobwebs he has an outburst and kicks the steel stairs. The camera cuts to JR and King who make a brief mention of what we just saw and then gives us an update on Triple H's condition. JR says that Triple H had a lot of internal bleeding and a few bruised ribs. This leads us to the next match for the night. (85%)
MATCH 7: King Booker w/Queen Sharmell vs. Santino Marella w/Maria (71%, 1.5*)
King Booker vs. Santino Marella was next as both men looked to settle the score. Both were also accompanied by their ladies, Queen Sharmell and Maria, respectively. The match began with a lock-up and Santino got the best of Booker on a couple of different exchanges, using his shoot-fighting experience to “embarrass” Booker.
After a hip toss, Booker got out of the ring and consulted with Sharmell. Booker demanded that referee Chad Patton back Santino up before he got back in the ring and when he got back in, he caught Santino with a boot to the gut when Santino charged at him. Booker then twisted Santino's arm before hitting a hook kick to the face. A cover got a two-count and Booker picked up Santino and sent him off the ropes.
On the rebound, Booker nailed his '110th Street Slam' spinebuster. Booker then taunted the crowd by lifting his pinky in the air while Sharmell clapped on the outside. Booker went off the ropes to hit a running knee drop but Santino moved. Santino then hit a stunner-like jawbreaker on Booker and started to pump up the crowd.
Queen Sharmell felt the match slipping away for her King and decided to get on the apron to distract Santino. Maria would then come over and pull Sharmell off the apron and shove her on her rear. The chaos caused referee Patton's back to be turned and when Santino went to pick up Booker, Booker thumbed him in the eye.
With Santino bent over holding his eye, Booker hit his signature Scissors Kick. Booker then picked up Santino and planted him with the 'Book End' to get the victory. Queen Sharmell got up and celebrated with her King as both lifted their pinkies high in the air.
WINNER – King Booker by pinfall in 8:16
Michael Cole and Ernest 'The Cat' Miller took over from here and a graphic showed for the next match: Chris Jericho vs. Chavo Guerrero. After a brief intro by Cole, a video highlight reel was played, showing how this match came to be after Chavo Guerrero cost Y2J in his World Heavyweight Championship match. (87%)
MATCH 8: Chris Jericho vs. Chavo Guerrero (81%, 3*)
'Break The Walls Down' hits and 'Y2J' Chris Jericho makes his way down to a big reaction from the Chicago crowd. As soon as Chavo Guerrero's music hits, the crowd immediately changes pitch and boos him out of the building and it appeared to annoy him.
The bell rings and Jericho heads right towards Chavo but Chavo goes to the corner and ducks his head through the ropes, calling on referee Charles Robinson to back Y2J up. Jericho obliges but taunts Chavo to get in the middle of the ring and eventually the two lock up.
After a brief exchange of chain wrestling, Jericho leap-frogged Chavo, who rebounded off the ropes and Y2J was able to hit a nice dropkick to knock Chavo to the mat. Jericho went for the 'Walls of Jericho' right away but as soon as he grabbed Chavo's legs, Chavo squirmed to the ropes and once again called on referee Robinson to back Jericho up.
Jericho ignored the request but when he approached Chavo, Chavo grabbed Y2J's tights and caused Jericho to stun himself on the middle rope. Chavo then stood on Jericho's back and choked him until Robinson forced Chavo to break at a count of four. Chavo went off the ropes and then jumped on Jericho's back, doing more damage to his neck area.
Chavo then picked up Y2J and went for the 'Three Amigos.' The crowd started to boo as Chavo hit the first suplex. After hitting the first two, Chavo tried to finish off the trifecta but Jericho blocked it. After a second block, Jericho would reverse into his own suplex and now both men were down.
Jericho was up first and as Chavo got up, Y2J decided to go for a bulldog and he planted Chavo with it. In position for it, Jericho hit Chavo with his classic 'Lionsault' and got a near-fall. After recovering, Jericho then went for the 'Walls' again but this time Chavo twisted his hips and flipped Jericho away. Both men got up at the same time and when Jericho charged at Chavo, Chavo was able to hit Y2J with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.
Chavo then slowly climbed to the top rope and did his late Uncle Eddie Guerrero's taunt. Chavo jumped to hit a Frog Splash on Jericho but Y2J got the knees up. Jericho then turned it into a cradle pin but got a two-count and both men were down again as referee Robinson started to count. When the count got to about seven, Jericho was up and when Chavo got to his feet a second later, Jericho took Chavo down and flipped him over to lock in the 'Walls of Jericho.'
Chavo was struggling and the crowd popped hoping Chavo would tap. Chavo started to crawl a bit and was a little bit away from the ropes. After another lunge, Chavo was fingertips away but Jericho pulled him back towards the middle of the ring. However, Chavo was able to flip on his back and kick Jericho away. Chavo got up and charged at Jericho but Y2J hit him with a 'Codebreaker' out of nowhere!!! Jericho made the cover and would get the victory.
WINNER – Chris Jericho by pinfall in 12:26
The camera then cut to JR and King who would set us up for the RAW Main Event, the WWE Championship Match between John Cena and Bobby Lashley. A short video package would play showing Cena's title defenses and then Lashley powerslamming Cena. Will Lashley stop the long reign of Cena? (87%)
MATCH 9: John Cena (c) vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship (91%, 4*)
An updated theme for Bobby Lashley hits ('Hell Will Be Calling Your Name') and Lashley makes his entrance looking as confident and aggressive as ever. Once in the ring, he paces around until 'My Time Is Now' starts up and the WWE Champion, John Cena, makes his way down to the ring. After Cena's entrance, Lillian Garcia announces both men and referee Mike Chioda holds the WWE Title up before ringing the bell.
The match begins with both men standing face-to-face and chirping at each other before they slowly backed up and then charged at each other in a lock-up. After a stalemate like two bulls locking horns, Lashley wins the battle and backs Cena into the corner. Referee Chioda asks for a break and Lashley does so but gives Cena an arrogant look as Cena looks sternly.
The two then go back to the center of the ring and start a “test of strength” with each other, locking their hands. Lashley gets the upper hand and pushes Cena down to one knee and then seconds late to both. Cena then yells and gets back to a vertical basis and the two are in a stalemate until Lashley shoves Cena back into the corner again.
This time Cena explodes out of the corner and locks up with Lashley but Lashley turns it into a go-behind waistlock takedown before using some amateur wrestling skills to attempt a couple of pinfalls that Cena would quickly escape. Once he got up, Cena would then get a side headlock in on Lashley but Lashley would send Cena off the ropes and knock him down with a shoulder block. Lashley went off the ropes but Cena would get up and turn Lashley's momentum into a drop toehold and then an 'STFU' attempt.
Lashley would quickly use the ropes to crawl to the outside and avoid a disaster early on. Lashley would take his time getting back in the ring and once he did both men locked up again. This time, Cena would go off the ropes but Lashley showed freakish athleticism and leap-frogged Cena before catching him with a back elbow and knocking him down.
Lashley would whip Cena into the corner but he would charge right into the turnbuckle as Cena moved. Cena would hit a bulldog, followed by a scoop slam, and then an elbow drop before getting a near-fall. Cena would strike away at Lashley in the corner before whipping him into the opposite corner and hitting a Fisherman's Suplex on the rebound. Another cover led to a near-fall and Cena put two fingers up and confirmed with referee Chioda that it was a two-count.
Cena then tried to whip Lashley again but this time Lashley reversed it and then charged at Cena in the corner. Cena got a boot up that stunned Lashley but when Cena attempted to get some more offense in, Lashley caught him and threw him with an Exploder-like suplex. Lashley would get a near-fall and then pick up Cena and spear him into the corner. Lashley would continue to hit shoulder thrusts to the midsection until Cena fell to his knees holding his ribs.
Lashley would then send Cena off the ropes and hit a sidewalk slam. Lashley went for another cover and when he got another near-fall he started to get agitated and whipped Cena hard into the corner, causing him to fall down. Lashley would then pick Cena up and hit a delayed vertical suplex. He had Cena up in the air for about ten seconds and as the blood rushed to his head, Lashley finished the move.
Lashley booted Cena in the gut and then went off the ropes but Cena moved, hit a kick to the gut of his own, and then went off the ropes behind Lashley and jumped over to hit his 'Throwback' neck snap. Cena then went to the top rope and hit a diving leg drop to the back of the neck of a bent-over Lashley. Both men were down and Cena slowly crawled over and shoots a half but Lashley kicks out.
Cena gets Lashley up but Lashley hits a couple of shots to Cena's midsection. Cena's ribs are hurt from all the punishment so far and Lashley whips him into the corner. This time, however, Cena moves when Lashley charges and then Lashley tries to hit a right on the rebound but Cena ducks and hits his signature spin-out powerbomb.
Cena would get in position, play to the crowd, and hit a 'Five-Knuckle Shuffle' on Lashley. Cena would then get Lashley up for an 'F-U' but Lashley slid out the back door and shoved Cena away. Off the rebound of the ropes, Lashley powerslammed Cena but Cena kicked out at the last second! Cena used the corner to get up and Lashley charged and hit a running should thrust to Cena's midsection before picking Cena up in a Torture Rack position. Lashley would jump and fall to his knees, hitting a backbreaker out of that position.
Lashley started to taunt the crowd and now he was stalking Cena. When Cena got to his feet, he got him in position to hit the running powerslam but Cena slid out the back himself and when Lashley charged back, Cena hit an 'F-U' out of nowhere! Cena couldn't capitalize with a cover right away and referee Chioda began to count as Cena slowly crawled over. Cena just got a hand over Lashley but Lashley would kick out at 2.9!
Cena couldn't believe it and was really starting to doubt himself. He got up and charged at Lashley, who was in the corner but Lashley got an elbow up and sent Cena stumbling back. Lashley then hit a thunderous clothesline and now Lashley was camped in the corner waiting for Cena to get up so he could finish him off with a Spear.
Lashley charged at Cena but Cena countered with a drop toehold and locked in the 'STFU.' Cena was yelling as he cranked back on Lashley's neck and Lashley was slowly scratching and clawing his way to the bottom rope.
