So, if you've been following my Mania Wrestling mod, you may know that I had alluded to a very ambitious mod I was working on while waiting for the new stats update to hit PWS. After some work with it, it's become very clear that doing this mod is not really feasible, and I'll explain why: basically, I was hoping to take every real world promotion and put them into a single mod. Then, the debut date would start roughly around the start of the 1900s. However, this wouldn't been a deeply detailed mod with EVERY worker that's ever been in the wrestling ring from 1900; this mod would be about the game generating new workers, and living an alternate reality where you'd have every promotion debut over time, but with brand new names you'd never heard of before!
That was the plan. However, in execution, this simply would be impossible. The reason why is because of the game itself. You see, when you have a whole bunch of promotions all making moves at the same time, the simulation slows WAYYYY down. I had about 40 something promotions being simulated with the Level Playing Field mode on, and a single day takes about 10-15 seconds to simulate. On Cagematch--the site that I have been using to put every promotion into the mod--it lists over 4000 different promotions. I think the game would literally die if it was trying to load and simulate even 1000 different promotions at once. I was told by the dev himself that the game could hold "Theoretically hundreds, though next day load times would be impacted obviously. Probably about a quarter second per promotion, if I were to guess" So, what I'm going for is probably too grand.
Now, I know what you might be saying: what about companies that go out of business or get bought out by other promotions. As far as I know, these things are not currently implemented in the game. In simulations I've run, more often than not, companies can go into several millions of dollars worth of debt and still be running. Even if those features were added, I'd still have concerns about the game not being able to run. So, this is the solution I've come up with: with this sort of detailed "include as many promotions as possible" approach, is there a particular point in time that you'd like to see a mod like this happen? 50s, 60s, 70s, whatever. Do keep in mind that before 1960, there was only around 100-200 promotions running, and before 1920, it was maybe only 10 that we have recorded in history (oddly, most of them in Western Australia).
What does everyone think?
