The Second Group Stage Draw has been nice to you. Sure, Schalke 04 are not a team to trust, but you and Real Madrid should head into the Quarters. Were there any surprises in the first group stage?

The Second Group Stage Draw has been nice to you. Sure, Schalke 04 are not a team to trust, but you and Real Madrid should head into the Quarters. Were there any surprises in the first group stage? I'm very happy with the group. Real Madrid are undefeated in the Spanish league, but started Champions League with a loss against Schalke in Gelsenkirchen.
One surprise is that Feyenoord ended 4th in their group (I want Dutch teams to have strong season so that we keep and maybe get even more teams in the European competitions). Ending 4th behind Rosenborg is pretty bad (since Feyenoord have been really good in the Eredivisie).
Grasshopper ended 2nd after Schalke 04 (while Celtic and Nantes) missed qualification.
The big shock is that Juventus ended 3rd after Barcelona and FC Kobenhavn. Juventus lost both matches against the Danish team which is really bad. Sparta Prague ended 4th in the group. Juventus haven't had a great season in Serie A and are currently placing 7th. The same Danish team defeated Liverpool in the 3rd qualifying round, resulting in Liverpool not making it to the Group stage.
Lazio and Real Madrid had no problems winning their group ahead of Olympiakos and Tirol Innsbruck.
Roma and Lyon qualified in a tough group ahead of Mallorca and Rangers.
Deportivo and Panathinaikos qualified ahead of Spartak Moscow and Steaua Bucharest in a pretty weak group.
Porto never qualified for the Group stage, since they were destroyed by Dortmund.

Grasshopper, Schalke 04, Celtic and Nantes is also a pretty mid group. Kobenhavn are really the underdog overachievers, it seems. I hope they continue to make it.

A newspaper columnist said that he was lost for words trying to find superlatives to describe Ajax's winger Andy van der Meyde. A newspaper columnist indicated that while the PSV Eindhoven manager Guus Hiddink's patience with defender Andre Ooijer seems to be inexhaustible, there will come a time when he will have had enough of second rate performances and drop him from the side. 0-1 Mido Ajax are through to the Quarter Finals with a 1-0 win over Roda at Parkstad Limburg Stadion in Kerkrade. Ajax will RKC Waalwijk in the Dutch Cup Quarter Finals.
Celtic have signed Willem II Tilburg's defensive midfielder Denny Landzaat for 7,750,000. Moore too bad I'm currently short on cash, so that I couldn't compete for Landzaat. I really wanted him for a longterm replacement for veterans Richard Witschge and Aron Winter. I had hoped that he was unavailable until the end of the season, when I get a cash injection.

Oh yeah, during that time the winter breaks were huge... PSV looks to be making money, while you're not. But money doesn't necessarily build a dynasty and the League and CL form of Ajax proves it!
