March 26 2001, Vince McMahon comes onto WCW Monday Nitro and announces he's bought his competition before his son Shane McMahon shocks the wrestling world by announcing that he cut his dad out of the deal and bought WCW for himself. After their scheduled match at WrestleMania X-7 Shane announces that he's done with his dad and the WWF and is going to be making himself a new home in WCW. Shane walks out of his dad's company and joins WCW in its hiatus.
In reality Vince had agreed to let Shane run WCW as long as WCW programming doesn't run directly opposite WWF programming. No more Monday night war, no more fighting. Vince even agrees to help his son get started by securing a Pay Per View slot for WCW's first show back, The Big Bang. Shane hires Johnny Ace, Arn Anderson & Fit Finlay as his Road Agents and advisors and sets off to pave his own legacy away from his Father.
The First Meeting
Shane: OK guys, the Time Warner contracts are going to absolutely demolish our roster, so before we even think about the Big Bang card we've got to know who we're working with. So far I've secured the World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T to work with us but we need someone for him to work with.
Arn: I might have an idea for that. I've got a friend with a history in WCW who's working in Japan under a handshake deal. Let me talk to him and see if I can work something out.
Shane: I'll leave that with you Arn. The other problem is Tag Teams, we have next to nothing for that entire division. Long term we can make more but we need some established names to help us get there.
Johnny: I happen to know The Road Warriors are both available. They've got their problems. There's a reason they're available but they'll help us get started, they might even be able to help as Road Agents.
Shane: Great idea, no… an Ace idea
Johnny: Please never say that again
Shane: Sorry, it was too good not to.
Finlay: What about the cruiserweights? Shane Helms has talent but he's not popular enough to build a division around, at least not yet.
Shane: There's got to be a recognizable name available, but I might be able to kill two birds with one stone with my personal project.
Arn: And here I thought we were your personal project.
Shane: I can have 2 projects. I want to try and sign as much ECW talents as I can before my dad take them all.
Johnny: ECW? Guys like Rob Van Dam I can understand being a good addition to the roster but Dreamer? Sabu? The Sandman?
Shane: Rob Van Dam is the top priority but Dreamer could be a valuable mid carder and Sabu could help with both the Tag Team Division & The Cruiserweights.
Finlay: That gives me an idea… I might poke my head around Mexico and see if I can bring Juvi back to WCW.
Arn: See if Konnan is interested too. Konnan is a recognizable talent and he'll help us with the Latino market.
Johnny: If we're just interested in raw star power at the moment, there is one WCW name that wasn't in the company during the sale, so he doesn't have a Time Warner deal.
Finlay: No
Arn: Absolutely not
Shane: Who wasn't with the company? Did I miss something?
Arn: He's talking about Scott Hall. He's a liability at best. A ticking time bomb at worst.
Shane: He's still a big name. Let's give it a try at least. Give him a handshake deal and cut him once the pros stop outweighing the cons.
Finlay: It's your show boss, I'll just give you my opinion, it's a stupid idea.
Shane: Noted. Since we all have our assignments, let's leave it here. Meet again next week and see if we can start promoting The Big Bang.
Johnny: What about getting a TV deal?
Shane: Next week Johnny, we've got plenty of time. We'll make sure we have the talent for a weekly show first.
