So for the past while I've spent some time teaming up with ChatGPT and Excel to try and see if I can make a working sim of Formula One. It's still not perfect and has some work that still needs to be done to make run nicely, but I figured I'd post he of my current trial runs and see if anybody is interested in following along and has any suggestions. With the short intro out of the way, let's get the actually sim underway. Driver line-up has been inspired by the 1950s line-up (removing Indianapolis) but should hopefully over-time evolve into it's own thing.
Race 1: French GP - Côte d'Azur Circuit (Nice, France)
Difficulty Rating: 82% Weather Variability: 22%
Entries
Adolfo Finnochio Drivers: Adolfo Finnochio Entering under his own name, Italian driver Adolfo Finnochio has arguably the best looking car on the grid and clearly the best pit crew money can buy, the rich young Italian is hoping to become the first ever Formula One Champion with his self sponsored side. He'll be running a Ferrari engine with Pirelli tires.
Alfa Romeo Drivers: Fedele Lolli, Arthur Duval, Indro Buccheri Alfa Romeo look to financially be the best side consistently on the grid this season and are the only side fielding 3 cars on the grid. The team is fronted by two experienced, Italian veteran drivers in 38-year-old Fedele Lolli and 32-yo Indro Buccheri. Plans for the 3rd seat seem to be offering it out to local talent, with Frenchman Arthur Duval getting a chance in this race. Obviously the side is running an Alfa Romeo engine, with Pirelli supplying their tires.
Automobiles Talbot-Lago
Drivers: Elie Choquet, Alois Scholl
In my opinion, driving a car with a Talbot-Lago car this year feels like a death sentence with a completely unreliable engine. To drive for them, the side have picked up two veteran drivers in 41-yo French driver Elie Choquet, alongside 39-yo German Alois Scholl. Obviously the dangerous Talbot-Lago engine is in the car running on Dunlop tires.
Ecurie Belge
Drivers: Michael Herman
A side focused on developing Belgian racing talent, Ecurie Belge have offered to fund 23-yo driver Michael Herman for the season. It is an unsurprising choice with no other major Belgian talent on the circuit. The car has been designed around a Talbot-Lago engine, while running Dunlop tires.
Equipe Gordini
Driver: Leon Gaudreau Another constructor owned side, Equipe Gordini are running just the single car this season, with the 40-yo from Le Mans Leon Gaudreau, who has been one of the best drivers on the scene over the past few years. The Simca-Gordini engine looks to be the most powerful on the grid, with the side also running Englebert tires.
Officine Alfieri Maserati Drivers: Namazio Presta, Clarence McFarland
Another constructor bring in two veteran drivers, Maserati have signed 35-yo Italian driver Namazio Presta and 45-yo British driver Clarence McFarland to represent the side for the upcoming season. Obviously the side are running Maserati engines and have got Pirelli to supply tires
Rodney Hinton
Driver: Rodney Hinton At 18 years old, Rodney Hinton has decided to open his own racing team and fund his own way through Formula One. Whether this will work out for the young British driver remains to be seen as he has decided to back the classic Talbot-Lago & Dunlop combination.
Scuderia Ferrari
Drivers: Armel Droz, Daciano Del Carlo It seems clear Ferrari see young Italian driver Daciano Del Carlo as an important future prospect for the team and are hoping French veteran Armel Droz might be able to provide him with some tips to help build his talent. Rumour has it though the side have barely invested in the car this year at all, which will be running the Ferrari engine with Pirelli tires.
Teobaldo Santin
Driver: Teobaldo Santin The one representative for English Racing Automobiles is weirdly not English at all, instead being young Italian driver Teobaldo Santin who is another young driver who has made it clear their plans to run in all 6 championship races this year. Dunlop tires.
Vitus Romer
Drivers: Polifermo Scacco, Loan Itten
Swiss driver Vitus Romer ended his racing career a few years ago but has continued to follow his passion of constructing car, allowing Italian driver Polifermo Scacco and Swiss driver Loan Itten cars to race in for the championship. This season he has opted to use Maserati engines and Pirelli tires.
Privateers: Arsene Bonhomme (Alfa Romeo, Dunlop)
Bertrand Lebas (J. A. Prestwich, Englebert) Francis Aubert (Ferrari, Englebert) Gaetan Mallette (Ferrari, Pirelli) Gustave Maret (Maserati, Dunlop) Hippolyte Brassard (Speluzzi, Dunlop) Lilian Remy (Simca-Gordini, Dunlop) Ray Leon (J. NEWS:
Organisers of the Spanish GP have come under scrutiny for allowing 6 inexperienced young drivers to take part in the event. While 15-yo Ibai Pescador did give a good showing for himself, it was the incident involving Jose Antonio Cantero, in which the young driver caused a collision with Evremondo Roselli and Namazio Presta. The three drivers were all taken to hospital after the event but fortunately only suffered fairly minor injuries. All three will be forced to miss the next three races.
Maserati sign Arthur Duval to race for them on a short-term contract to replace the injured Namazio Presta. The team were reportedly impressed by his performances at Alfa Romeo so far and are hoping to he will be able to replicate those performances in their car. He will get two chances to perform in Championship races at the English GP and Andorran GP.
With Michael Hermann unavailable for the English GP, Ecurie Belge have decided to give 17-year-old Yannis Dereumaux a chance to drive for the team. Dereumaux will be making his Formula One debut at what is viewed by many as being the most difficult track on the 1950 calendar. Ecurie Belge are reportedly hoping that providing this opportunity to Dereumaux will help him develop into a future star of the sport.
Alfa Romeo have signed on 32-yo British driver Jason Allison to drive their third car during the 1950 English GP. This will be a big chance for the man from Westerham to show what he can do.

Irish GP - Emerald Isle Raceway (Galway, Ireland) Difficulty Rating: 58% Weather Variability: 72% Non-Championship Race
NEWS
Hippolyte Brassard has suffered a broken wrist after slipping off the track during the English GP, which will prevent him from being able to compete during the Irish GP next months. Following that however he should return to racing condition.
Following a bad accident Talbot-Lago driver Alois Scholl will be unavailable until after the Scottish GP. As such Talbot-Lago will be forced to run a different driver for the Andorran GP and will be looking at their options ahead of the third race of the Championship.
Tragically, Jason Allison's crash at the British GP has proven to be fatal. Allison went off the track after missed the corner at turn 6 and rescue teams were unable to save him. He was 32. Alfa Romeo have indicated they plan to continue running the third seat despite the tragedy. Tributes have been pouring in for the main who was the top driver in Britian.
Just some random thoughts here:
1. I think I need to look at getting some easier tracks, particularly for when I start adding junior series as I've noticed every track I currently have has over 50% difficulty. I've got 30 tracks currently so it feels a bit biased. Any suggestions for locations, names or anything would be awesome.
2. Having drivers getting injured every race isn't great and I might look into that. I have reduced the danger down after race 1, but the high number of DNFs and terrible weather kind of obscures this.
3. Currently going to have to think about what junior series, additional GPs and stuff I want to add. I'm bringing in drivers for GPs just as required to meant a 20-man minimum (hence the 6 rookies in Spain) but I need to come up with a better system that also allows for random additions and works when things stop being so open entry.
4. Need to work out a proper qualifying system that matters more. Currently I'm maxing races out and 20 and just using an adjusted version of the races, but I'll have to change it at some point.
5. Rest in Peace to the Man from Westerham

NEWS
Just the one injury this race, with Adolfo Finocchio's F1 dreams will be put on hold while he recovers from a fractured wrist. He has decided to fund Rick McGowan to replace him until his return.
With the return of Namazio Presta to Maserati, Arthur Duval's contract with the team would have come to an end. However, impressed by his results with the team, including their first points for the season, they have instead decided to hand the Frenchman the second seat, replacing Clarence McFarland who will now become a free agent.
Gaetan Mallette's contract with Talbot-Lago comes to an end as Alois Scholl will return in time for the American GP and so a replacement is no longer needed.

NEWS
Confusion around the entry of Rick McGowan not being as Adolfo Finocchio's driver in the Scottish Grand Prix has been answered. Apparently Rick McGowan had already entered before signing to join Finocchio. After some discussion, the two decided to offer the seat to a young driver and offered the opportunity to Francis Aubert.
Alfa Romeo confirm their 3rd driver for the American GP will be young American talent Dwight Mathis. Despite the races location, it has proven to be more popular with European talents, with Mathis being the only American on the grid. Argentina's Videl Sanchez and Thailand's Darin Khadpo will be the only other non-European drivers.
Alois Scholl has officially returned from injury in time to rejoin Talbot-Lago for the American GP. All going well it seems the plan is to keep him in the drive for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately for the driver he will be forced to miss the rest of this season due to injuries, however he is expected to make a full recover and should be able to return to racing in time for the 1951 season.
Just fair warning, I know I'm pretty consistent in updating this now but this will have far more variability in posting rate than my EFL Sim as this being done more just as I feel like it rather than at all times. Only 4 more races left in the season (Austria, Italy, West Germany, Belgium)

West German GP - Schwarzwald Strecke (Baden-Baden, Germany) Difficulty Rating: 70% Weather Harshness: 34% Non-Championship Race
NEWS
The Italian GP got off to a poor start after multiple cars collided during the race causing a massive pile-up and putting an end to the race of 7 drivers, with Indro Buccheri forced to retire later on due to engine troubles. Of the drivers involved in the crash, both Rodney Hinton & Evremondo Roselli have escaped completely unscathed. Minor injuries mean Adolfo Finocchio will be forced to miss the West German GP. With only 2 races left in the season, this will also be the final race of 1950 for Postumio Beffa, Armel Droz and Arthur Duval. Michael Herman unfortunately suffered far worse injuries than his competitors and it is expected the Belgian will be unable to make a return for a year.
With question marks over many important race seats heading into the final week, with Ferrari and Maserati in need of a driver for the final race of the season in Belgium. Ecurie Belge however have made it clear despite the incident they will still race at their home GP, bringing back Yannis Dereumaux to occupy the seat.
I'm hoping this is just some freak luck and not a flaw in my system because that is a lot of injuries for 1 race. There was a ~70% for each driver to be unscathed, so on average should've been closer to 2 injuries. Now I've got to work out who makes sense for the Ferrari & Maserati seats

NEWS
After getting injured after his engine exploded at the West German GP, Alois Scholl has confirmed that will be the end of his motor racing career as a number of injuries have stacked up and this is the second crash this year that has left him injured. The 39-yo plans to return to Fussen to spend more time with his family. Having not wanted to enter the German in the Grand Prix but being convinced to let him compete in his home country, Talbot-Lago are now left having to try and find a driver to carry them through the Belgian Grand Prix. Arlo Piccio has also been injured at the Grand Prix and will be forced to spend a year outside the racing scene, unfortunately looking set to miss his home Grand Prix in Italy next year. After a failed attempted to bring back Clarence McFarland to the team, Maserati have signed Christopher Bethune to drive for them at the Belgian Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver drove for the side at the West German GP to get a feel for the car to a mediocre result.
Ferrari have signed British driver Norman Gibson to race for them during the Belgian GP.
Having run into issues trying to find a driver to fill their second seat, reportedly failing to interested Gaetan Mallette, Lilian Remy or Clarence McFarland, Talbot-Lago have confirmed Thai driver Darin Khadpo will race their second car at the Belgian GP.
Alfa Romeo have brought Clarence McFarland in to race their third car after reportedly struggling to find any local talent to drive their third car.
