October 2001Dutch Premier DivisionAjax – Groningen 1-0 1-0 Mido
Ajax takes 3 points against Groningen after a goal from Egyptian wonderkid Mido. Groningen is a tricky opponent that often is overachieving.
Champions League Phase 1 Group DAjax – Lyon 3-0 1-0 Nikos Machlas 2-0 Victor Sikora 3-0 Aron Winter
Ajax takes 3 important points against French team Lyon. Manchester United still leads the group before a chasing Ajax.
AZ Alkmaar have a good team and several promising talents, but have been underachieving. AZ should be good enough to compete for a top 3-5 spot. Danko Lazovic is a very promising talent and could be seen as a potential future replacement for Arnold Bruggink or Arjen Robben that usually plays in PSV's shadow striker position behind the two strikers.

Hopefully this can reignite his form.Champions League Phase 1 Group DManchester United – Ajax 3- 01-0 Nicky Butt 2-0 Nicky Butt 3-0 John O'Shea
Another disappointing match versus Manchester United. I'm so disappointed in how the team performed.
A pure surplus player that never would have managed to get a spot in PSV Eindhoven.
Offensive key players Rafael van der Vaart and Andy van der Meyde have been underperforming, instead of being VIPs. Due to poor performences the tactic have been changed from a 433 tactic to a 343 tactic. This results in that fullbacks no longer have a spot, since all defenders will be central defenders.

So from now on Ajax will no longer use this tactic with 4 defenders.

From now on Ajax will play this 3-3-3-1 tactic. So the fullbacks are no longer needed.

Dutch Premier Division Vitesse – Ajax 1-2 1-0 Remco van der Schaaf 1-1 Steven Pienaar 1-2 Mido
Ajax takes 3 points in the difficult away game against Vitesse Arnhem. Vitesse is not a team to be underestimated and is challenging "The Big Three" for a top position. Vitesse have solid core in Yugoslavian international goalkeeper Dragoslav Jevric, Yugoslavian international defender Dejan Stefanovic, Belgian international striker Bob Peeters, Belgian international midfielder Gert Claessens and talented youths like Theo Janssen, Michel Vorm, Stijn Schaars, Matthew Amoah, Michael Dingsdag, Nicky Hofs and Jhon van Beukering. Despite limited transfer funds, the team have been active when it comes to pick up talented, but cheap players for the future.
