Hello, this is Jeronimoe, a professional writer from South Korea.
Again I will talk about the missed opportunity of pro wrestling and make it better, but this time it will not be WWF, but WCW.
You may know Stan Hansen. He was the best foreign wrestler in Japan along with Vader.
He had amazing work rate with unique stiff style, and he was huge and definitely had charisma.
He is not a wrestler who should have ended up as upper midcarder in WCW.
He was a valuable resource that could have made a turning point in WCW history, like he did in Japan.
As a professional creative, I have a fascinating idea about how to utilize Stan Hansen in WCW.
Are you curious about how? Before I go through the alternative booking, let's see the circumstance of WCW in 1990.
The year that Stan Hansen arrived in WCW was 1990. 1990, when Sting defeated Ric Flair for the world title for the first time.
But let's face it. Even though Sting was a great star material, he still didn't surpass Ric Flair in every way.
Ric Flair was still better in ring, he was better talker, he could draw more fans to arena, he could carry segment better.
Sting was still somehow green at this point. Other top leading babyface candidates had same problems too.
Lex Luger was even more green, Sid was even more green than grass itself, and he didn't have much passion on wrestling too.
Then who should have been the top leading babyface of WCW in 1990?
The answer is none other than Ric Flair.
Ric was pretty much done as a heel in WCW at this point. He was the best wrestler of 80s in USA,
and the top leading star of JCP/WCW for years. WCW fans loved him no matter what he did.
This happens when a wrestler becomes the legend. All the legend heels went through same process.
Fritz Von Erich, Dick The Brusier, all hated heels in their prime, but ended up being beloved by fans.
Flair became a legend, fans wanted to cheer him at the time. Flair, even though he faced his 40s,
He still had much in his tank. So turning him into an awesome babyface was best choice for WCW.
But there is one problem left. If WCW turns Flair into babyface, WCW lose their top heel.
That's the point when you utilize Stan Hansen. You can use Hansen as a top heel.
But even though how good Hansen is, replacing Flair is a very difficult work.
But I have a great idea to make things work. Do you want to see my ideas?
Here is how I would have booked Hansen in WCW.
In TV show, Jim Cornette comes out and start to talk that 'The real world champion' will comes to WCW.
Cornette hypes about 'this real world champion' about every weeks. He says this real champion dominated the world,
he won the world champion for 10 times in 3 continents. Cornette says this guy is a true executioner of pro wrestling,
and he will execute all of WCW wrestlers who stand against him, one by one.
One day, Cornette hypes about 'the real champion' again, and says Ric Flair is only the fake champion because he never defeated this wrestler.
after saying it, Four Horsemen music hits, Anderson and Windham grabs Cornette and Flair is ready to punch Cornette.
And that is when the new music hits, Hansen arrives in WCW with his bull rope. He runs down to the ring with swinging bull rope,
hits devastating lariat on Windham, -Windham flies away with flipping- Anderson and Flair retreats.
Hansen chokes Windham with his bull rope and laughs in evil way, Cornette grabs the mic.
"He is the real world champion! The true executioner of pro wrestling! He is! Stan! 'The Executioner!' Hansen!!"
So idea here is, Hansen would not be built as a cowbody gimmick. He will be a executioner, a Hangman.
(It makes sense, because Hansen always bring bull rope with him.)
Hansen will brings a title with him, it would be called as 'International heavyweight championship'.
Cornette will build this title as the real world championship and truly matters.
When Cornette hypes about Hansen, he says no WCW wrestlers can stand against Hansen.
Cornette says if anyone stood against Hansen, he will be executed.
Junk Yard Dog's music hits, JYD confronts Hansen and says he is not afraid of Hansen.
JYD demands a match with Hansen and says he will take the title away from Hansen.
Cornette says 'The challenge is accepted!', and leaves the ring with Hansen.... NOT!
Hansen hits the lariat on JYD all of sudden. Hansen smirks and Cornette laughs so loudly, leaves the ring.
At Clash of Champions, JYD VS Stan Hansen.
JYD attacks on Hansen with every maneuvers he has, Hansen no sells,
smirks and viciously attacks JYD with stiff slugs and lariat.
JYD gets knocked out and pinned, 1,2, 3, the match is over.
Hansen brings the bull rope out and chokes JYD and hangs him on the ring rope.
Fans gets frightened, Cornette grabs the mic and says "This is what happens when you stand against Hansen!"
Steiner brothers comes down to the ring and Rick checks the condition of JYD.
Scott Steiner stand tall against to Hansen and stares at him with enraged look.
Fans chant "Steiner!" and Hansen retreats with smirks on his face.
