WWE Smackdown
Jacksonville Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, FL
Segment One: The Main Event is set
The show tonight begins with Mark Henry already in the ring. He brags about taking Batista out before their title match and says that Teddy Long may as well bring him his belt now. Instead, Rey Mysterio comes out to defend the honor of his good friend, Batista. He challenges Mark to a one on one match tonight but Randy Orton crashes the party, tell Rey that he has more important things to worry about than his hurt friend but if he wants a match tonight, then it'll have to be a tag match against both Orton and Henry. Mark points out that Rey doesn't have a partner for the night but Bobby Lashley answers the call, joining up with Rey for our main event.

Segments Two/Three: Brian Kendrick vs Joey Mercury/Post-Match
Before their tag title bout at the Royal Rumble, Kendrick and Mercury faced off in a decent TV match. Kendrick ultimately got the win this evenly matched bout. After the match, the champions attempted to attack the challengers but were unsuccessful and forced to retreat.

Segment Four: The Mexicools vs the Gymini
This match barely had time to get off the ground but the same can't be said about the team of Psicosis and Super Crazy who used their high flying offense to score the quick win.
[Rating: 33]
Segments Five/Six: JBL Promo/JBL vs Orlando Jordan
Before the match, JBL cut a promo talking about how great he thinks he is and how he deserves to main event Wrestlemania again. Okay. He also beat Orlando Jordan in a match where Jordan got a little shine.

Segments Seven/Eight/Nine: Regal Promo/Benoit vs Regal/Post Match
William Regal was backstage with Josh Matthews. He promised everyone watching that he was going to beat Benoit tonight, go on to win the Royal Rumble, and then the title. He failed to live up to the first part of that promise, submitting to the Crippler Crossface to end a very good, technically focused match. After the match, Benoit's celebration was short lived as United States Champion Booker T made his return, attacking Benoit from behind and posing with the title!

Segment Ten: Chavo Guerrero vs Jamie Noble vs Gregory Helms vs Scotty 2 Hotty
WWE.com announced earlier in the day that Cruiserweight Champion Kid Kash went to GM Teddy Long to demand a challenger for the Royal Rumble. Long picked these four men to face off in an elimination match for the honor that saw everyone throw all of their offense out but in the end, Chavo Guerrero won the match by eliminating Gregory Helms.

Segment Eleven: Teddy Long Books a US Title Match
General Manager Theodore Long is backstage in his office for this short announcement. He says that since Booker T has returned and shown that he wants to get physical right away, he will have that chance when he defends his US Title against Chris Benoit at the Royal Rumble. Holla, Holla, Holla.
[Rating: 54]
Segments Twelve/Thirteen/Fourteen: The Main Event
Mark Henry and the Ortons are backstage. Randy and Bob are trying to pitch a gameplan but Mark doesn't care as he says the only gameplan is "You stay out of my way and we handle our own business." The plan worked as Henry focused on the powerful Lashley and Orton zeroed in on his top rival going into the Royal Rumble. Lashley and Mysterio put up a great fight but the combination of an RKO and the World's Strongest Splash spelled the end for Rey. The winners looked to continue the beating but were cut short when the World Heavyweight Champion Batista ran out to fight off Mark Henry as Lashley dispatched Orton to close out the show.

Segment Two: Chavo Guerrero vs Kid Kash
Cruiserweight Title
The first match of the evening was a title match as Kid Kash defended against Chavo Guerrero. Kash didn't have a match on this show until he demanded on from Teddy Long and, at the end of the night, maybe that was better for him. Chavo used a Frog Splash in honor of his late uncle Eddie to add another Cruiserweight Title reign to his resume.

Segment Three: Lashley and Carlito Pick Numbers
Vince McMahon and Teddy Long are backstage with the big Royal Rumble Number Tumbler when they're joined by Carlito and Lashley. Carlito tells Lashley that him losing on Smackdown wasn't cool. Lashley tells him that he agrees but that it's going to be very cool when he eliminates Carlito later tonight. They each pick a number and Carlito teases spitting apple on Lashley but thinks better of it after looking at the bigger man.
[Rating: 55]
Segment Four: Chris Benoit vs Booker T
United States Championship
Months of pent up aggression for Benoit were finally released tonight as he put a beating on the champion. These two went blow for blow for almost twenty minutes but Sharmell made the difference, tripping up Benoit and distracting him long enough for Booker to hit the Scissor Kick and retain his title.
[Rating: 59]
Segment Five/Six: Edge Promo/Edge vs Ric Flair
WWE Title
Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match
Edge was backstage to say some final words before defending the WWE Title against Ric Flair. It was a short, sweet promo where he told everyone that he refused to become another footnote in the bloated legacy of Flair. After nearly thirty minutes of brutal back and forth action that saw both men make use of the weapons around ringside, Edge was able to climb the ladder to secure his belt after Spearing Flair through a table in the corner.

Segment Seven: Rey, Angle, and HBK Draw Numbers
We once again get the Royal Rumble Number Tumbler as Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, and Shawn Michaels join Vince and Long to make their picks. Things are tense between Michaels, Angle, and McMahon with Michaels saying he's going to ruin Vince's plan to keep him away from Wrestlemania but Kurt says he plans to personally eliminate Shawn tonight. Rey is left alone to look at his number which he seems bemused by.
[Rating: 58]
Segment Eight/Nine: The Royal Rumble Match/Celebration
For 63 minutes, 30 men fought it out for a shot at the title match of their choice at Wrestlemania. Kurt Angle made good on his promise from earlier in the night, eliminating Shawn Michaels (thanks to a distraction from Vince McMahon), killing any hope Mr. Wrestlemania had of competing at the Granddaddy of Them All. Shawn wasn't the only victim of Angle as the Olympic Hero eliminated nine men in total but failed to make the Final Four. WWE Champion Edge, still banged up from his TLC title defense made his presence known, sneaking down to ringside to pull John Cena out of the ring. Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin, the recently returned Rob Van Dam, "the Legend Killer" Randy Orton, and underdog #1 entrant Rey Mysterio were the last four men in the ring but only one could be left standing. After Orton eliminated both Benjamin and Van Dam, hurricanrana from Mysterio almost sent both himself and Orton to the floor but Rey held on, earning his Wrestlemania title match. After the match, confetti and pyro put an exclamtion point on the night for Mysterio.

Segment Ten/Eleven/Twelve: Mark Henry vs Batista
No Disqualification
WWE World Heavyweight Title
Before the match, a video package aired showing the history between champ and challenger. The beat-downs, the insults, nu-metal, you know, a PPV hype package from 2006. As part of the ring introductions, Tony Chimmel informed the fans that this match was now No Disqualification. Probably a good ruling since there was no way these two men weren't going to try to tear each other apart. Both made liberal use of weapons and the ringside area to try and put the other down. Henry nearly became champion following a World's Strongest Slam on a pile of steel chair but the Animal was able to rally back and secure the win with a Batista Bomb through a table.
Batista was celebrating his win when the lights in the arena went out. Everything was dark for a few moments until the familiar gong of the Undertaker rang out, bringing lightning and fog with it. The Deadman himself made an appearance indicating to the champion that while he may have gotten past the World's Strongest Man, a much graver challenge awaits him.

I'm sure you're wondering where the Smackdown Tag Title match is. It couldn't happen because Joey Mercury wrestled high and got sent to rehab. As a result, MNM was stripped of the tag titles. The next Smackdown update will have the resolution for that.
