Just watched 'Hell In A Cell' ppv. I will talk about Roman Reigns little.
People hate Roman Reigns. Mostly because Vince built him wrongly as a face.
But it is hard to deny that Roman is a special resource for pro wrestling world.
He is very charismatic, has a tremendous look, and he has that special aura.
Which are all the good tools for a top leading guy.
But not only because of Vince's booking, Roman actually has some flaws too.
Modern day pro wrestling is all about fast pace. More faster, you can get more praised.
I am not talking about indy guys that are only fast without any connection with fans.
In modern day, wrestlers are making matches with extremely fast pace and they are still connected to the fans heavily, and make fans get in to the matches.
Most of NJPW wrestlers are like that. Experts consider New Japan wrestlers as standard of good wrestlers in modern day. That's not coincidence.
But Roman, his pace for matches are too slow for modern day.
If he is a traditional type wrestler like Ric Flair, Triple H, then it is fine. Traditional wrestling is all about slow build up.
But Roman is far from traditional wrestler. He is more like a brawler and counter type wrestler hybrid.
Both styles need fast pace to get over in modern era.
That is why it is hard for Roman to carry matches on his own. He needs a gimmick matches or fast paced opponent for making good matches.
People demand great work rate for top leading stars in this days. NJPW with Okada, the best wrestler in the world, AJPW with Miyahara, NOAH with Shiozaki and Kiyomiya.
Not only Japan. There was an obvious reason why people supported Daniel Bryan rather than Roman Reigns in WWE back in the day.
Roman has great entertainment value and aura, but he lacks work rate that people demand.
Which is very sad, because otherwise, he could have been the perfect choice for the 2020s top leading superstar of WWE.
I want to add some more about Roman, but I would stop here for now. There must be some chances to talk about him more for me.
