Main Event - Steel Cage - Bruno Sammartino vs Stan Hansen - WWWF World Title Match [89]
The war between Bruno Sammartino and Stan Hansen makes its way inside a Steel Cage. Stan Hansen takes an early advantage with a strong Lariat but a two count was all he was able to get - Bruno Sammartino won't give up the fight this early.
Stan Hansen begins a ground and pound attack which appears to never a end - Bruno Sammartino is seemingly in for a long night. Hansen continues his attack but a quick reversal from Sammartino leads to a shift in control. The ''Italian Superman'' manages to get a few strikes in before Hansen returns with a couple of his own. Both men begin to go back-and-forth, trading blows until Stan Hansen ducks a strike, hits the ropes and delivers his second Lariat. With Sammartino down and out, Stan Hansen begins a slow arrogant walk to the cage door, calling for it to be opened. However, as Hansen was set to secure the victory, Bruno Sammartino gets a weak hand on Stan Hansen, grabbing his attention. ''The Lariat'' reverts his decision to immediatley take then win, instead, getting back in to the ring to inflict more pain on the WWWF Champion.
Ready to cause more pain, Stan Hansen pushes Bruno Sammartino in the turnbuckle and delivers a leaping forearm. Hansen attempts to repeat the manoeuvre but is caught in mid-air by Sammartino, who locks in the bearhug. This wouldn't last long as an elbow to the head forces Bruno to release the hold. Hansen attempts his third Lariat but ends up seeing its reverse and instead being forced in to the steel. Sammartino capitalises and hits a running powerslam.
As both men were down, Bruno Sammartino was quicker back to his feet and sees an opportunity to climb out of the cage. As Sammartino ascends to the top of the cage, Stan Hansen regains his focus and chases him down. Bruno begins to battle with Hansen, aiming to keep the high ground but with Hansen not staying down, Sammartino drops ten foot down to the ground, winning the match after 14:04, but inflicting major damage on to himself.
