Main Event - Texas Deathmatch - Bruno Sammartino vs Stan Hansen - WWWF World Title Match [95]
In the first Texas Deathmatch in the WWWF, Stan ''The Lariat'' Hansen challenges Bruno Sammartino for the WWWF World Title in a match which will end the war between the two men. In his hometown of Texas, in a match very fitting to his Hardcore Style, Stan Hansen is seemingly very confident of capturing the WWWF World Title as he snatches it pre-match and raises it in the air, proclaiming himself the winner before the match has even started. Despite Hansen's actions, Bruno Sammartino remains very calm whilst face-to-face with his opponent. The war will only end after one man is able to pin his opponent and keep him down for a ten count.

Immediately after the bell rings, Bruno Sammartino pounces on top of Stan Hansen, beggining the final chapter of the war. After a series of strong blows, Sammartino sends Hansen over the top rope, to the outside. Bruno begins to drag his opponent around the outside of the ring, sending him crashing in to the steel barriers and accross the announce table. Sammartino goes to charge Hansen but a knee to the mid-section allows the momentum to be shifted in ''The Lariat's'' favour.

Now in control of the match, Stan Hansen pulls out his bull rope and wraps it around the neck of Bruno Sammartino and tosses him back inside the ring. Hansen tries to get back in to the ring but a kick from the Champion sends him back down to the outside. Bruno then attemps to go to the outside via the middle rope but Hansen, who had just grabbed a chair from under the ring, clocks the ''Italian Superman'' with it square in the head. Hansen finally gets in the ring, tossing Sammartino around like rag doll before hitting the Lariat and following up with a pinfall - One...Two...Kick Out! No start for the ten count just yet.

An irish whip sends Bruno Sammartino in to the corner of the ring and a series of knife edge chops pain the chest of the Champion. Stan Hansen goes to the outside and re-enters the ring with a leather strap, continuing attacking the chest of Sammartino. Hansen proceeds to hoist Sammartino in to the air and powerbombs him in to the turnbuckle. Bruno seems to still have plenty of fight left so Hansen returns to the bull rope, wrapping it round the neck of Sammartino whilst locking in a Sleeper Hold. A minute in an the Champion is in danger of losing the title very soon. The referee goes to check on Sammartino but he manages to raise an arm, using the noise of the crowd to work his momentum back to his feet, pushing Hansen against the ropes but a shoulder tackle from ''The Lariat'' takes Sammartino back down to the ground. Stan Hansen is in full control of the match, managing to stop every minor flurry of offence Bruno Sammartino manages to get in.

Stan Hansen takes a detour back to the outside and returns with a cow bell. He then shoves Bruno Sammartino in to the corner, getting on the top rope, and begins laying strikes in to the forehead with the weapon. ''The Lariat'' leaves the ''Italian Superman'' in the corner, busted open and oozing with blood, whilst he sets a table up in the centre of the ring. Hansen then resumes with the cow bell attack on the top rope. Bruno regains focus and clutches Hansen for a powerbomb sending him crashing through the table. Bruno manages to crawl over and cover his opponent - One...Two...Three! The referee begins the ten count - One...Two...Three...Four...But thats all was acheived. Hansen isn't staying down that easy.

With both men enjoying a well deserved minutes break from the action, they get straight back in to it, trading blows until Stan Hansen gains the upperhand with a knee. He then goes for a Lariat but Bruno Sammartino manages to duck and hit the ropes, only to take a sidewalk slam. Stan Hansen locks the Champion in a bearhug before deciding on an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Hansen continues to load on the offence until Bruno manages to grab ahold of the cow bell and create some seperation before Sammartino hits a Lariat of his own, which gets the three count but Stan Hansen manages to arise after a two count.

Bruno Sammartino keeps in control of the match using a chair to bust open the head of Stan Hansen. After a minute of further punishment with the chair, Hansen manages to hit a big boot to the face of the chair sending it in to the face of the Champion. The Challenger goes for the pinfall - One...Two...Three but begins to get back to his feet. Stan Hansen lines up and hits Bruno Sammartino with a Lariat sending Sammartino back down to the ground. Another pinfall attempt sees Hansen get the three count. The referee begins the ten count - One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight is all that is manageable as Bruno just won't stay down.

Stan Hansen immediately hoists Bruno Sammartino up for a powerbomb but Sammartino manages to slip out a hit a running powerslam, then deciding against the pinfall. Instead, he opts for the chair lining it up with the skull of his opponent and forces it down with all his might. Another three count allows the referee to begin his ten count - One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight...Nine... but its not to be as Stan Hansen needs the assistance of the rope get back to his feet. The fatigue, alongside the heavy loss of blood, is wearing out both men.

Both men begin to stagger in to the centre of the ring to resume their war and a simultaneous clothesline takes both men down. Each man stretches an arm across for the pinfall - One...Two...Three. The referee once again starts the ten count - One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight... and miraculously, both men are back to their feet again. Stan Hansen goes for the Lariat again but Bruno Sammartino display an insane showing of strength, reversing the move and hoisting Stan Hansen up and hitting a running powerslam. A pinfall is attempted - One...Two...Three which is once again followed by the ten count - One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight...Nine...Ten. Its over!

After a gruelling 32:33, both men lie in the blood soaked ring and even though Bruno Sammartino is declared the winner, he sure doesn't feel it as he needed to be helped back to his feet following this brutal encounter with Stan Hansen. Even in defeat, Stan Hansen's stock has definitley risen as he has taken the WWWF World Champion to the most exteme limits.
