As you can tell, the history of the WWF Women's Title in this timeline is VERY different in 2000 compared to the same year in OTL. Instead of holding the title until August, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley holds the title for bulk of 2000. Part of that is down to there....not really being a ton of people in the women's division. The way I see it playing out, in storyline, is that Stephanie uses here power as a member of the McMahon family to only have to defend the title once a month, thus fulfilling the requirement of defending it every thirty days. Where will the WWF Women's Title go in 2001? Stayed tuned....

As long as you don't accelerate the start of Santino Mareĺla's career to give us Santina vs Stephanie at Wrestlemania, it's likely whoever gets the Women's title next, will be an acceptable choice.

Getting this one out right before the end of the month....
Part XLVI: WWF Royal Rumble 2001WWF Royal Rumble 2001 January 21st, 2001 - New Orleans Arena - New Orleans, Louisiana
Sunday Night Heat
1.) Six-Man Tag - Balls Mahoney, Danny Doring, & Roadkill def. Hot Commodity (Chris Hamrick, EZ Money, & Julio Dinero)
PPV
1.) WWF World Tag Team Titles - Vince McMahon & Shane McMahon def. The New Age Outlaws (c) 2.) WWF Hardcore Title - Submissions Or Knockouts Only - The Undertaker def. Tank Abbott (c) 3.) WWF Intercontinental Title - Ladder Match - Shawn Michaels def. X-Pac (c) 4.) WWF Title - Jeff Jarrett (c) def. Chyna 5.) Royal Rumble Match - Winner: Steve Austin
So we've not officially entered 2001, and going into the Royal Rumble PPV, this edition of the famed match looks to feature the most star-studded lineup in history. Names like Steve Austin, The Rock, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Triple H, The Undertaker, Kane, and Psycho Sid would be involved, while a pair of celebrities (Drew Carey and Dennis Rodman) would also be involved in the match. Obviously, as you can see above, the winner of this Royal Rumble Match is the same as the winner in OTL. However, how did Austin get to his third Rumble win? That will be detailed in the next post, similar to how I've handled the Royal Rumble Match in the past.
There aren't a lot of other matches from this card to go over, so this post will probably be a shorter one. The top match outside of the Rumble itself sees Jeff Jarrett defending the WWF Title against an old rival that he's come into conflict with once again. After escaping the Six-Man Hell In A Cell at Armageddon with the WWF Title still in his grasp, the man referred to as "The Chosen One" by Vince Russo (among others) was certainly riding high, and felt he had turned back all potential challengers. However, one person who had something to say about that was Chyna. She declared that, after holding all of the other men's singles titles in the WWF over the past few years (Intercontinental, European, Hardcore, Light Heavyweight), it was now time for her to go after the ultimate prize....the WWF Title. She wanted to smash through the ultimate glass ceiling. While Jarrett protested, Chyna was quick to remind him that she defeated him in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match at the previous year's WrestleMania in Anaheim. With the reminder of this glaring defeat hanging over him, Jarrett ignored Russo's insistence to refuse, and accepted Chyna's challenge for the Royal Rumble (Chyna basically goaded him into defending the title against him by bring up that previous encounter). The match itself saw Chyna come close to winning the title on a few occasions, but in the end, Jarrett would once again escape with the WWF Title still in his grasp. Even though Chyna came up short that night, she proved that she was a forced to reckoned with, and was going to be a threat to Double J as long as he was champion.
The battle between Planet Jarrett and the contingent of WWF stars led by Vince McMahon continued into the new year, and a number of those clashes would be featured on this card. Austin, Texas was the sight of the first edition of RAW Is WAR of the new year on January 1st, and it was a mixed bag for the rabid Texans in attendance. The show kicked off with a match for the WWF Intercontinental Title between Shawn Michaels and X-Pac, in a rematch from the tournament final on the Armageddon PPV. X-Pac managed to steal the championship from the Heartbreak Kid thanks to a well-timed low blow after Albert and Justin Credible got involved. Meanwhile, the show's main event saw The Right To Censor go up against The APA in a Lumberjack Match with the WWF World Tag Team Titles on the line. With Planet Jarrett and most of the babyface WWF roster at ringside as lumberjacks, a big brawl broke out (unsurprisingly) and, through the chaos, The APA managed to capture the titles that they hadn't held since October of 1999. While there was a big celebration to close the night, their reign wouldn't last very long. Just two laters later on the January 3rd SmackDown, The New Age Outlaws stole the titles from Bradshaw and Faarooq thanks to Planet Jarrett involvement.
Vince McMahon had to find a way to swiftly respond to these title changes. As far as the WWF Intercontinental Title went, that issue was handled more swiftly, as he announced that X-Pac would defend the title in a Ladder Match against Shawn Michaels at the Royal Rumble, with all Planet Jarrett members banned from ringside. As for the WWF World Tag Team Titles, it wound up taking a family reunion to solve that problem. For the most part, the latter half of 2000 saw Shane McMahon off in his own corner of WWF programming, as he was having his feud with Dennis Rodman over the WWF Hardcore Title. While Shane ultimately won that feud, he soon came in the crosshairs of Planet Jarrett. On the January 8th RAW Is WAR, Shane was set to defend the WWF Hardcore Title against Tank Abbott (who had signed his name on an open contract put out by Shane on the previous edition of SmackDown). As Shane was making his entrance, The New Age Outlaws jumped him. This meant that he was pretty easy pickings for Tank Abbott, who won the WWF Hardcore Title in short order. On the following SmackDown on January 10th, Vince and Shane had a heart-to-heart in the ring, and agreed that, despite their differences, they needed to reunite as father and son, and do something that they never dreamed of being possible....becoming tag team champions together. So the match was set for the Royal Rumble, and when the dust settled, Vince and Shane emerged victorious, becoming (to my knowledge) the first father-and-son pairing to win the WWF World Tag Team Titles. Meanwhile, in what proved to be the Match Of The Night, Shawn Michaels regained the WWF Intercontinental Title from X-Pac in their aforementioned Ladder Match.
To round out the main card of the Royal Rumble, new WWF Hardcore Champion Tank Abbott would end up facing his biggest test yet in the form of The Undertaker, who would be pulling double duty on this card (as he was also entered into the Royal Rumble Match). Their bout would be contested under the traditional hardcore rules, but with no pins allowed. Victory could only be obtained by either submission or knockout. Ultimately, The Undertaker would emerge victorious, entering the Royal Rumble Match with some freshly won gold on his shoulder.
Finally, on Sunday Night Heat, there would be a Six-Man Tag with Balls Mahoney, Danny Doring, & Roadkill def. Chris Hamrick, EZ Money, and Julio Dinero from Hot Commodity. There were no other title changes to speak of, so that's pretty much it for this post. I'll try to get my post on the Royal Rumble Match itself done later tonight, so keep an eye out for that.

Alright, it's time to go over all of the happenings from the 2001 edition of the Royal Rumble Match! Of course, the 2001 Royal Rumble Match is considered to be one the best rumbles in history, and much like OTL, the winner is exactly the same. When the dust settled, Stone Cold Steve Austin won his third Royal Rumble in the span of five years, earning himself a shot at the WWF Title in the main event of WrestleMania X-Seven.
How does the match itself go? Well....I tried to keep it relatively close to how the actual 2001 Royal Rumble Match played out. Again, it's considered one of the best Rumble matches, so no need to mess with a formula that obviously worked. The only thing I really needed to do was swap in certain guys for wrestlers who are (in my EWR game) part of my version of WCW instead of WWF. The easiest example of that involves Too Cool. I basically put Scotty 2 Hotty and Grand Master Sexay in the role that The Hardy Boyz were in, and everything turned out the same way. Scotty 2 Hotty and Bull Buchanan were 1st and 2nd respectively. Grand Master Sexay was 3rd, and he teamed up with Scotty to eliminate Buchanan. The 4th Entrant was another Right To Censor member in Val Venis, and Too Cool made relatively quick work of him. The two then battled each other, which led to them eliminating each other. It was during this time that Drew Carey came out as the 5th Entrant, and this portion played out exactly as it did in OTL, with Kane coming out 6th, Carey offering him money, and Kane attempting to chokeslam him. The 7th Entrant attacking Kane frees Carey from the Big Red Machine's grasp, and Carey promptly eliminates himself. In this case, however, the 7th Entrant isn't Raven....it's the returning Vampiro, who hasn't been seen since losing a Buried Alive Match back at No Mercy a few months prior!
Now we get to the hardcore portion of the 2001 Royal Rumble, as the next several entrants would introduce weapons. Hayabusa was the 8th Entrant, Hardcore Holly was the 9th Entrant, Al Snow was the 10th Entrant, and Steve Blackman was the 11th Entrant. After Blackman's entrance, Kane would run wild, and eliminated all five wresters that were in the ring with him. We then get to the 12th Entrant, who was (of course) The Honkey Tonk Man! Of course, he does the same bit that he did in OTL, where he does his song before getting a guitar smashed over his head by Kane and sent over the top rope for the elimination. The Rock was the 13th Entrant and, as they say, business picked up. The two of them went at it, with the next two entrants (Right To Censor members The Goodfather and Steven Richards were 14th and 15th respectively) being eliminated pretty quickly. At this point, the ring starts to fill up a little bit. Bradshaw is 16th, Albert is 17th, Justin Credible is 18th, British Bulldog is 19th, and Faarooq is 20th. We don't get the next elimination until Dennis Rodman comes out as the 21st Entrant. He has some brief shine before getting tossed out by The Rock. Dustin Rhodes and Rikishi are the 22nd and 23rd Entrants respectively, and at this point, we get some guys getting spotlighted thanks to some eliminations. Albert manages to eliminated Faarooq, but then Rikishi is able to eliminate Albert a short time later.
Business REALLY starts to pick up as Triple H is out next as the 24th Entrant. The Undertaker comes out as the 25th Entrant, and at this point, bodies start to get tossed out. British Bulldog, Bradshaw, and Justin Credible are tossed out by The Undertaker, while Dustin Rhodes is tossed out by Kane. The 26th Entrant is Chris Candido, who basically played the role that Scotty 2 Hotty played in the 2001 Royal Rumble in OTL. The guy comes out mortified that he's entering the match just as The Brothers Of Destruction have gained control of the ring. Obviously, his tenure in the match doesn't last very long, as Kane and The Undertaker make quick work of him. Steve Austin was the 27th Entrant, but before he could enter the ring, Psycho Sid (who, of course, ran over Steve Austin with a car at the tail end of 1999) attacked him and busted him open. As the two disappeared backstage, Hollywood Hulk Hogan came out as the 28th Entrant, soon to be followed by WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Kid Kash in 29th. Psycho Sid was the 30th Entrant, and as he started to make his way out (having seemingly disposed of Austin), the Texas Rattlesnake returned and attached Sid from behind! The two brawled to ringside and eventually made their way into the ring. Austin would eliminate Kid Kash before tossing Sid over the top rope!
After Rikishi got tossed out by Triple H, that left us with a star-studded final six. Kane, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Triple H. Six of the WWF's biggest stars were going to battle it out to decide would be in the WrestleMania main event! Triple H would get tossed out by The Undertaker, but then in sort of a repeat of the 1992 Royal Rumble finish, The Undertaker (in the Sid role) would get tossed out by Hogan (in the Ric Flair role), with help from Triple H on the outside (in the Hogan role). Hogan then had a back-and-forth with The Rock before Kane intervened and eliminated the latter. A battle between Kane and Hogan would see Kane getting the better of Hogan (those two still have some unresolved issues), before we get to the same final two from OTL. It's Austin vs. Kane, and ultimately, it's Austin who emerges victorious.
Now it's time for the full list of entrants and eliminations.
1.) [4] Scotty 2 Hotty by Grand Master Sexay 2.) [1] Bull Buchanan by Too Cool 3.) [3] Grand Master Sexay by Scott 2 Hotty 4.) [2] Val Venis by Too Cool 5.) [5] Drew Carey by Himself 6.) [29] Kane by Steve Austin 7.) [10] Vampiro by Kane 8.) [9] Hayabusa by Kane 9.) [8] Hardcore Holly by Kane 10.) [7] Al Snow by Kane 11.) [6] Steve Blackman by Kane 12.) [11] The Honkey Tonk Man by Kane 13.) [27] The Rock by Kane 14.) [12] The Goodfather by The Rock 15.) [13] Steven Richards by Kane 16.) [18] Bradshaw by The Undertaker 17.) [16] Albert by Rikishi 18.) [20] Justin Credible by The Undertaker 19.) [17] The British Bulldog by The Undertaker 20.) [15] Faarooq by Albert 21.) [14] Dennis Rodman by The Rock 22.) [19] Dustin Rhodes by Kane 23.) [24] Rikishi by Triple H 24.) [25] Triple H by The Undertaker 25.) [26] The Undertaker by Hollywood Hulk Hogan 26.) [21] Chris Candido by Kane & The Undertaker 27.) [WINNER] Steve Austin 28.) [28] Hollywood Hulk Hogan by Kane 29.) [22] Kid Kash by Steve Austin 30.) [23] Psycho Sid by Steve Austin
So for the moment, the WrestleMania X-Seven main event is Jeff Jarrett vs. Steve Austin for the WWF Title. Will it stay that way? Well....tune in next time for No Way Out 2001 to find out!
