Happy Thanksgiving Eve, everyone! I might try to have my full breakdown post of WrestleMania X8 (with the results included) posted late Friday evening, but if it's not up by then, I'll definitely have it done sometime on Saturday.
In the meantime, I have below the entire card for the PPV which, much like in OTL, will be taking place from the SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on March 17th, 2002 (which is also St. Patrick's Day)! I should note that this likely isn't the final match order. I'll likely make some changes in terms of what match happens in which spot, but this is just how I have things on my rundown from top to bottom.
- WWF Championship - Scott Steiner (c) vs. Triple H
- Dream Match - "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock
- Anything Goes Match - Cactus Jack vs. The Undertaker
- Hell In A Cell Match - Shane McMahon vs. Vince McMahon
- WWF World Tag Team Titles - Totally Buffed (Buff Bagwell & Lex Luger) (c) vs. Steve Austin & The Sandman
- WWF Intercontinental Title - Triple Threat Match - Jeff Jarrett (c) vs. Psycho Sid vs. X-Pac
- Shawn Michaels vs. Vampiro
- Ten Person Tag - Al Snow, Maven, & The APA (Bradshaw, Faarooq, & Jacqueline) vs. WWF European Champion Big Bossman, Bull Buchanan, WWF Women's Champion Jazz, Justin Credible, & Steve Blackman
- Kane vs. Rikishi
- WWF Hardcore Title - Three-Ways-To-Win Triple Threat Match - Malice (c) vs. Ken Shamrock vs. Sabu
- WWF World Six-Man Tag Team Titles - Four-Way Trios Match - The Triple Threat (Bam Bam Bigelow, Chris Candido, & Shane Douglas) (c) vs. New Blood (Brian Christopher, Julio Dinero, & Kid Kash) vs. Rico Constantino & The Samoan Destruction Squad vs. The Bone Street Krew (KroniK & The Godfather)
Two matches will also be taking place on Sunday Night Heat:
- Goldust vs. Kid Romeo
- Six-Man Tag - Jason Jett, Scott 2 Hotty, & Super Dragon vs. The Texas Wrestling Academy (Lance Cade, Michael Shane, & Paul London)

Read this from the start, not entirely sure why we're getting a HHH V Scott Steiner match when that didn't work at all irl but Iunno maybe this'll be better. Still colour me surprised that we've got a Shane McMahon transitional run. The big difference in this case is that Scott Steiner is being brought in as the monster heel while Triple H is the clear babyface, so it is a different dynamic compared to their matches in 2003 in OTL. Will that make the matches any better? Eh....not sure about that, but the addition of Steiner (and a lot of other WCW guys whose contracts I let expire in my EWR game) really just serves to freshen up/add to the WWF roster, which has been relatively thin for (at least) a year-and-a-half.
A funny story: My original plan was to actually have Scott Steiner debut in the Royal Rumble Match and win the WWF Title, but then I realized that WCW Mayhem 2002 (which I had booked to be Steiner's final WCW appearance) was actually set to take place the week after the Royal Rumble PPV. Obviously that couldn't work, so I had to go to Plan B, which was Shane McMahon.

Oh yeah that makes more sense, have HHH fight from underneath, plus of course you don't have the boring predictability of HHH hits sledgehammer, HHH wins. Sorry for fantasy booking but this dynamic can have Scott be more methodical, have HHH have a few hope spots but then have Scott fight back and then I'm picturing Scott Steiner hits the Steiner Recliner, HHH's hand drops once, drops twice but in the third time, HHH gets up and hits an electric chair drop for like a double down, it then gives the crowd the chance to breathe it in, then at the count of 8 you have HHH drape his hand on Scott for the 1 or 2 count just to give them time to keep the audience invested but then have HHH get up, roar then I know he wouldn't but I'm picturing HHH eventually doing like his Daniel Bryan match where he works smart and he hits like a Tiger Suplex then eventually you have the John Cena/AJ Styles finish where John Cena hit his finisher, knew it wouldn't be enough so he hit it again to be sure, I'd do that, I'd have HHH hit Scott with a Pedigree, Scott is still somehow not fully down so HHH tells Scott to "Suck It" to the joy of the audience, hits a second one, if there's anyone helping Scott then I'd have HHH hit them with a Pedigree just to be proactive then come back in again, pick up Scott hit a 3rd one and then pin him for the 1-2-3. The reason why HHH hits the third one is because he knew because he took time to go after Scott's seconds then there's a sliver of a chance that Scott could take those precious seconds to kick out because he is "The Cerebral Assassin" so have him be Cerebral, have him be the smartest babyface ever.
As long as you don't go full Vince McMahon and have like a dream match years in the making be on 2 matches beforehand then it'd be better than his Chris Jericho match. But then again if you're going for a HHH victory then that's how I'd book it.

Scott Steiner (with Stephanie McMahon) (c)11.) Dream Match - Icon vs. Icon - The Rock def. "Hollywood" Hulk HoganWell....here we are! We're in the SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the 18th edition of WrestleMania, and I've got quite the card to go over.Since I'm going from bottom to top, I'll kick things off with Sunday Night Heat. The first match of the night sees a trio of Jason Jett, Scotty 2 Hotty, & Super Dragon defeating Lance Cade, Michael Shane, and Paul London from the Texas Wrestling Academy (which, of course, had Shawn Michaels as a head trainer). This was presented as a showcase match for some of Michaels' trainees, and while the result was never really in question, the main story was what happened after the match. After the match, The Disciples Of The New Church appeared and attacked all six men. Shawn Michaels would run out with a chair to chase Vampiro and company off, so this just served to build up the Shawn Michaels/Vampiro match later in the night (more on that later). After that, Goldust picked up a victory over Kid Romero, who had Gran Apolo with him in his corner (the beginnings of a new Puerto Rican stable).Kicking off the main card was a Four-Way Match for the WWF World Six-Man Tag Team Titles. New Blood had held the titles since December, but after Chris Candido split from them to get back together with Bam Bam Bigelow and Shane Douglas, The Triple Threat won the titles from New Blood on the February 19th, 2002 edition of Tuesday Night RAW. While those two sides were still engaged in their feud, The Bone Street Krew as well as Rico Constantino and The Samoan Destruction Squad entered the title picture, and a four-way trios match was signed for the PPV. This was basically a spot-filled multi-person match to get the show started. KroniK and The Godfather would pick up the victory to bring championship gold to BSK.Following that was a one-on-one encounter, as Bone Street Krew member Rikishi battled Kane. These two were part of the first Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out back in February, but Kane's been having problems with Bone Street Krew ever since the group emerged as a force on WWF television (The Undertaker had actually offered Kane at spot at one point, but he turned it down). This battle between big men would end with a Rikishi victory after a kick below the belt after the referee had been tossed aside. Another victory for the BSK, but this is just the first part of a larger feud between these two.Up next was the Three-Way-To-Win Triple Threat Match for the WWF Hardcore Title. What that essentially means is that each of the three competitors got to pick how they would need to win the match. Malice, representing The Disciples Of The New Church and the defending champion, selected pinfall, so that meant he could only win the match via pinfall. Ken Shamrock (who had returned to the WWF and was making more appearances as part of a stable he formed with Big Bossman, Bull Buchanan, Justin Credible, and Steve Blackman) elected submission, so he could only win the match via submission. Finally, Sabu decided to pick something that leaned into his strengths, and went with Ladders as his method of victory. So he could only win the title by climbing a ladder and retrieving it like a normal Ladder Match, and when the dust settled, that's exactly what happened. Sabu is the new WWF Hardcore Champion. This was partially inspired by a Ladder vs. Submission Match than Ken Shamrock and Sabu did in TNA in OTL. It's a little wacky, but for the Hardcore Division, I think it works. After that, we got another straight singles match, as Shawn Michaels battled Vampiro. The issues between these two go back to the Royal Rumble Match, when Michaels eliminated Vampiro. While the two stayed largely separate during the build to No Way Out, Vampiro was still annoyed by the fact that Michaels tossed him out. On the February 19th Tuesday Night RAW, after a victory over Super Dragon, Shawn Michaels was brutally assaulted by The Disciples Of The New Church. This would set up their match at WrestleMania, and which Michaels got the victory with a flash pin on Vampiro, The Disciples Of The New Church got the last laugh as they attacked Michaels afterwards (Lance Cade, Michael Shane, and Paul London tried to make the save, but to no avail). The fifth match on the card saw the WWF World Tag Team Titles on the line, as Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger, aka Totally Buffed (part of Steiner's Army) defend against fan-favorite tag team of Steve Austin and The Sandman. Austin has been feuding with Steiner's Army since their debut, and that led to a singles match with Buff Bagwell at No Way Out. The Sandman was part of the crew that came to Austin's aid after that match got thrown out due to interference from Lex Luger, Rick Steiner, and Mark Jindrak, so it was only natural that Austin and Sandman get their team back together. The WWF World Tag Team Titles got introduced into all of this after Totally Buffed defeated Al Snow and Maven (who was still weakened after his Biker Chain Match with The Undertaker a few days earlier) to win the titles on the February 20th SmackDown. Despite attempted interference from Mark Jindrak, Austin and The Sandman would emerge victorious to capture the WWF World Tag Team Titles, and the two celebrated as only they could....by drinking a lot of beers. Then we have the first of the "Big Four" on this PPV. Shane McMahon vs. Vince McMahon inside Hell In A Cell. These two have been at each other's throats for nearly a year (ever since Vince turned on Shane as part of the angle that closed WrestleMania X-Seven). Vince was successful in his efforts to get the WWF Title off of his son, but he didn't want to stop there. He wanted to utterly destroy him. Linda McMahon would try to get both of them to back out of it (for the sake of their own safety), but neither would be swayed. It was also decreed that any outside force that would try to get involved would be fired, so it's strictly a battle between father and son. The match proved to be a bloody affair that saw both men really go after each other. At one point, they ended up outside of the cage, and Shane set his father up on one of the announcer's desks before climbing to the top of the cage. He went for a big dive, but Vince got out of the way just in time (this was one of the big spots of the match). Once they got back in the ring, Vince tried to finish Shane off, but Shane managed to make a comeback, and finally put Vince away with the trash can assisted Coast-2-Coast Dropkick. So after a year long saga filled with twists and turns, Shane ends the feud standing tall over his father.Looking through the matches I had planned, I realized that had to put a buffer in between the Hell In A Cell Match and the Anything Goes Match, since both were going be similar. The Ten-Person Tag served as the buffer in this spot on the card. Originally I had something else booked, but I decided to change things around so I can include some women on the card. Basically just a group of mid-card/lower mid-card babyfaces teaming with Jacqueline teaming against Ken Shamrock's group with Jazz. Babyfaces get the win here, and a future match between Jaqueline and Jazz is teased. Not much else to say about that one!Up next, The Undertaker puts his WrestleMania Undefeated Streak on the line against an opponent who's familiar, but also fresh. The Bone Street Krew was not happy that Mick Foley had gotten involved in their business (punishing Maven for The Undertaker's elimination from the Royal Rumble Match), so they started going after him. On the February 26th Tuesday Night RAW, BSK (The Undertaker and Kronik in this case) defeated Al Snow, Maven....and a returning Mankind in a Six-Man Tag, but Mankind ended up getting the worst of things as BSK got the win. One night later on SmackDown, we essentially got the same angle that Mick Foley did with Triple H in 2000, where he takes off his Mankind outfit and transformed into....Cactus Jack. That all served to set up Cactus Jack vs. The Undertaker in an Anything Goes Match. The big thing here is that, to my knowledge, The Undertaker had never wrestled Mick Foley's Cactus Jack persona, so in the build up, Foley had been promising to bring a level of violence that The Undertaker had never seen before (saying that the Hell In A Cell at King Of The Ring 1998 would look like child's play by comparison), and when the match took place, the violence was definitely turned up. All sorts of different weapons were involved, including Thumbtacks and Barbed Wire in various different forms. Cactus Jack took a bunch of big bumps, and took The Deadman to his limit, but The Undertaker somehow survived to pick up the win. A major match to say the least, but this won't be the last time we'll see these two clash in 2002.
Two more title matches to cover. The WWF Intercontinental Title is on the line in a Triple Threat Match, as Jeff Jarrett puts the gold on the line against both Psycho Sid and X-Pac in a Triple Threat Match. Sid's issues with Jarrett continued after the former got screwed out of the title at No Way Out, but in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, X-Pac interjected himself into the title scene as a wildcard/third party. In the end, Sid would score the victory on X-Pac to capture the WWF Intercontinental Title. With Jarrett not being the one to take the fall, that pretty much guarantees that the feud between Jarrett and Sid would carry on beyond the PPV. In the top title match on the card, Triple H (after winning the inaugural Elimination Chamber Match at No Way Out) would challenge Scott Steiner for the WWF Title. The one twist here is that Stephanie McMahon is in Steiner's corner. To rewind a bit, the week before No Way Out, the same renewing of wedding vows segment that happened in OTL took place. On the following RAW, as Triple H was cutting a promo, he was attacked by Steiner's Army, and Vince McMahon revealed that Scott Steiner's new business manager was none other than Stephanie McMahon. So basically mirroring the Chris Jericho/Stephanie McMahon pairing from OTL (Steiner really doesn't care about Stephanie....as long as she takes care of his outside-the-ring business and stays out of his way). The match between the two would have a different dynamic from their real life encounters in 2003, as the babyface/heel roles are reversed. When the dust settled, Triple H would emerge the victor and the new WWF Champion. The main event of WrestleMania X8 is the match that should've been the main event in real life. It's "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock in a Dream Match. Icon vs. Icon. The one big difference here is that there's no nWo, and we don't really getting any of the wild antics that they did to try to build the match (like Hogan using a semi-truck to ram into The Rock's ambulance). It's a more straightforward build, as two of the biggest stars in the history of wrestling collide for the first time. A match that the WWF had held off for two whole years since Hogan made his return. The match plays out pretty much the exact same way it does in OTL, including the crowd turning on The Rock in favor of Hogan. The Rock would score the victory all the same. The post-match would see an attempted attack by the BSK, only for Kane and a still visibly injured Mick Foley to come out and help clean house. The four babyfaces stand tall to close out the night. That's all for WrestleMania X8! I hope you liked the card I put together and enjoyed my breakdown. Tune in next time for Backlash 2002!
