It's April 2001, the night after WWF's Backlash Pay-Per-View. With their victory over The Undertaker and Kane, Stone Cold and Triple H now hold The WWF, Intercontinental and Tag Team Championships and with the help of Vince and Stephanie McMahon, look all but unstoppable. However, the presence of WCW owner, Shane McMahon, has a become a distraction his father can no longer ignore. Meanwhile, the rivalry between the WWF Commissioner, William Regal and Chris Jericho continues to rumble on, with the Commissioner acquiring a mysterious new ally. Despite his loss to Chris Benoit at Backlash, Kurt Angle believes he should be considered a challenger to Austin's title but a returning superstar may have something to say about this.

What’s up guys? It’s your boy, Mark Garcia Reports, recapping your weekly WWF news. The World Wrestling Federation held their annual WWF Backlash PPV which did a buyrate of 375,000, which isn’t bad for the post Wrestlemania hangover show and served up some decent matches. It looks like a number of Wrestlemania storylines will be continuing as the weeks commence, despite the rumours of a complete overhaul of the booking team.
Go check out the match results here if you haven't seen the show.
Before Raw kicks off tonight in Detroit, I have it on good authority that the WWF are already pulling the trigger on some kind of WCW storyline. A number of contract signings have been officially announced for former WCW talent and could be showing up as early as tonight. Word is this week's storyline will be geared around Shane McMahon’s wrestlers being portrayed as the babyfaces but these things could change in the next few weeks. It does appear in shoot that these guys are being portrayed as outside invaders, with Vince McMahon and his goons fighting them off. If Backlash is anything to go by, Austin, Triple H and Big Show might be included. The most high profile WCW wrestlers are still on those huge AOL contracts which McMahon has decided are not worth picking up at this time. However, as each month goes by, these contracts demands will drop significantly.
Such an influx of new talent begs the question what will happen to an already bloated WWF roster. Steve Blackman, Haku, Tori and most notably Women’s Champion, Chyna have all been released. Chyna was demanding way too much money, a WWF Title run and her stock has fallen significantly in recent years. I guess the WWF Women’s title is now vacant? K-Kwik and Essa Rios have been sent to development after their current gimmicks were seemingly going nowhere. Even so, it seems clear that the WWF will have to trim the roster even further if they want to bring in more talent, especially with rumours that former ECW wrestler Yoshihiro Tajiri has apparently been signed, while Jerry Lynn has already made his presence known, winning the WWF Light Heavyweight Title on episode of Sunday Night Heat before Backlash. These former ECW wrestlers join recent hires Rhyno, Spike Dudley and Justin Credible and it just goes to show that the WWF really is the only show left in town these days.
Check out this roster of active wrestlers!
Big Bossman and Shawn Michaels are the only long term injuries, while The Rock is wrapping up production of the Scorpion King and may well be on his way back in the near future. Add in the prospective signing of Yoshihiro Tajiri, the potential WCW contracts as well as other on-air talent such as road agents, personalities, referees and the entire McMahon family plus Mick Foley, there will be a huge amount of competition to stand out. I guess we'll see what happens this week. I'll be back Monday morning, see you then!

Once again, your boy Mark Garcia Reports got it right. Shane McMahon did bring his WCW wrestlers onto WWF Raw on Monday and the arrival of Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Buff Bagwell and Kanyon are just the tip of the iceberg. A bunch of WCW talent has been signed to WWF contracts but immediately sent to development or given paid time off. Alex Wright, Bill Demott, Billy Kidman, Chavo Guerrero Jr, Juventud Guerrera, Lance Storm, Mark Jindrak, Mike Awesome, Shawn Stasiak are among the key personnel, along with WCW Cruiserweight and Tag Champions, Shane Helms, Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire. Bryan Clark and Brian Adams, known as Kronik have also been retained. A few others such as Torrie Wilson, Midajah and Stacy Keibler have been signed but told to stay at home for a few more weeks. Other staff, notably Johnny Ace and Arn Anderson have been given jobs as agents and will be mostly working with the new WCW wrestlers, while referee Charles Robinson has also been hired. No news on any of the commentary team yet. The WWF have also acquired a number of WCW Championship belts, most notably, The Big Gold Belt, currently held by Booker T.
Despite this, there is seemingly is still no end of demand for wrestling, shown already by the announcement that WWF Pay Per Views will now run for an additional half hour, while the weekly recap show, WWF Metal seems to have had an upgrade. While it is still mostly a catch up, filler show, the matches showcased were of a much higher quality than the normal jobber fare, headlined by Big Show against Chris Benoit. My personal opinion is if they do split WCW and WWF onto separate shows (as has been discussed) they will want a B Show to compliment Sunday Night Heat and be able to negotiate a better deal with the increased viewership.
The WCW guys made their presences known on Raw, beating up Shane McMahon's recent rival Big Show, while Vince seemingly has support from veteran employees like Bradshaw, Faarooq, Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly. I'd guessed that it might have been Austin and Triple H who would be helping out Vince but when you think about it, in both kayfabe and shoot, it's exactly these sorts guys who might be on the chopping block when it's time for contract renewals. The big takeaway from this of course was the reveal that The Rock would be returning on Smackdown (we'll get back to this) to help the WWF fight off WCW.
The rest of Raw was pretty entertaining. It seems that feuds between Austin, Triple, Undertaker and Kane has been dropped in favour of giving The Dudley Boyz given a huge main event push. They were booked strong in their match with Austin and Triple H and it’s good to see that the mid carders are getting their chance to shine before the inevitable rush of incoming talent. Austin and Triple H’s overconfident arrogance which saw them resort to an intentional DQ loss in their WWF Tag Team title match made sense from a booking point of view. The Dudleyz got some measure of revenge, almost putting Debra through a table. Despite being one for one in their pay per view matches, it seems Kurt Angle is going into a feud with the returning Rock, while Chris Benoit may be doing something with his former Radicalz buddies, possibly Eddie Guerrero? The other two Radicalz were squashed by The Undertaker and Kane after damaging his motorcycle. Yoshihiro Tajiri, now known simply as Tajiri has been paired with William Regal who’s feud with Chris Jericho seems to be continuing. He looked impressive in his debut match against Spike Dudley, in a match that only served to showcase his unique offence. Raven encouraged Crash Holly to challenge Rhyno for the WWF Hardcore Title which went about as well as you'd expect. Right to Censor, despite their recent internal friction seem to be back together and could be the only team dastardly enough to turn Edge and Christian babyface, with the Canadian’s playing several tricks on the white shirted puritans this past week. Later on Metal, there were wins for Rikishi, Test and the new team of Hardcore Holly and Billy Gunn seemingly geared around building momentum for these guys, while the previously mentioned Benoit v Big Show a great match for a C-Show.
On Smackdown, Chris Jericho beat Triple H to win the Intercontinental Title, thanks to The Dudley Boyz distraction. Jericho goaded Triple H into the match, joking that that the Dudley Boyz should have tried to attack Stephanie, not Debra on Raw. Commissioner Regal confirmed on Heat that a rematch already on the cards for Raw next week. We’ve seen the title flip flop recently so it may be that Triple H is the champion once again by the time you read this report. They also teased a split between Triple H and Austin, noting Triple H and Stephanie left Debra for The Dudleyz on Raw, but it was all a ruse to get heat from the crowd. The Rock beat Big Show in his return match without skipping a beat and had the inevitable confrontation with Austin. Kurt Angle tried to get himself involved which was pretty funny as he was seemingly oblivious to the tension between them. Watch this space. Meanwhile, history was made when Diamond Dallas Page faced Crash Holly in what has been billed as the first inter promotional match between WWF and WCW. Obviously, this is not true, as all ‘WCW’ wrestlers are under WWF contracts now. But hey, it’s still a bit of fun. After the match, the WWF goons beat the snot out of Shane and his guys. Let's hope this doesn't become a theme, with these mid level job guys dominating former WCW champions like Booker T and DDP. Hopefully Vince doesn't feel quite so vindictive that he has beat WCW again. Crash Holly has been paired with Raven recently, with Raven trying to push a new catchphrase. His WWF run so far has been really stop-start so it will be interesting to see if something finally sticks. Back to WCW, it looks like Test might be joining Shane’s side after he was seen helping Shane and DDP enter the building, despite Vince instructing security to keep him out. Eddie Guerrero picked up a win over Kane with help from the Radicalz. Chris Benoit could be involved with this storyline, possibly facing his old buddies? The return of Jerry Lawler has signalled the end of Tazz’s time on the commentary desk. He beat Funaki in a squash on Sunday Night Heat but whether he gets any more ring time remains to be seen and he could easily be another one of the guys on the chopping block if the roster continues to grow. X-Factor are seemingly on a good little run, beating The Hardy Boyz, Too Cool and Edge and Christian in quick succession while Right to Censor got the better of E&C in singles matches on both Raw and Smackdown.
Here’s my match recaps for the last week.

WWF Judgement Day is the next PPV on May 27, with tickets still remaining for the Savvis Center in St Louis and no matches are booked yet. You have to believe that The Rock will want to get his hands on Austin but this Dudley Boyz feud might run on until then.

Who could possibly hate Mondays? Not only do you get another Mark Garcia Reports, we’ve got WWF Raw tonight from Canada where there's always a hot crowd!
But first, let’s catch up what happened last week! The big takeaway from Raw was Chris Jericho retaining the WWF Intercontinental Title against Triple H despite Commissioner Regal stacking the deck against him. With Stephanie as the special guest referee, Debra as the timekeeper, Austin as the enforcer and Regal himself as the announcer, you’d have thought it would be a cakewalk for Triple H, especially when The Dudley Boyz were banned from ringside. However, sometimes your enemy’s enemy is your friend and an unlikely truce between The Dudleyz and Shane McMahon saw Jericho somehow retain with Earl Hebner counting the decisive after Vince had accidentally taken out Stephanie. Triple H had earlier demanded Hebner be fair in the match, after he’d blamed him for the loss last week on Smackdown. Before the match, Regal also suggested that Triple H challenge The Rock to a number one contender’s match on Smackdown.
Interestingly, Vince McMahon was quick to criticise Regal for this loss as well as his inability to stop WCW wrestlers entering the building, noting his feud with Jericho is taking up too much of his attention. The hilarious backstage segments between Jericho and Regal continued, with Jericho getting Tajiri (who Regal is treating more like a servant) to polish the Intercontinental title for him.
Shane had a measure of revenge himself when The Dudleyz led the A.P.A., Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly into a trap where WCW got their heat back after the beating they took last week on Smackdown. Booker T had already cost the A.P.A. in their match against X-Factor earlier in the night, which keeps their win streak going (for now). When they couldn’t find Booker T, Bradshaw and Faarooq took out their frustration on Test who had let Shane and WCW into the arena last week. The former crowd favourites are pretty much heel at this point.
The Radicalz are back together after Benoit turned on The Undertaker and Kane, declaring that their brotherhood was the strongest. This makes more sense than Benoit siding with the Brothers of Destruction against the Radicalz, on paper at least. Ivory reclaimed the vacant WWF Women’s Title after Steven Richards hit Lita with a Superkick setting up a match between The Hardy Boyz and Right to Censor on Smackdown, while The Rock continued to show why he should be the number one contender to Austin’s belt. The Rock battle to victory over both Kurt Angle and Big Show in a handicap match set up by Commissioner Regal.
Raven continued his ‘sage’ advice, this time trying to encourage Taka Michinoku to get some revenge on Tazz after he beat up him and Funaki on Heat. Jerry Lawler was back on commentary with J.R., with Heyman bumped over to Smackdown with Michael Cole and Tazz got all up in his face after the match.
Over on Smackdown, Austin was pissed that Triple H entertained Regal’s offer to face The Rock to become number one contender, which really put the belt over as being the most important title in the world. Vince took a Stunner with Austin coming across paranoid but there’s no sign of a face turn just yet. It was a night of bumps for Vince who also took a massive Big Boot from Test, who joined Shane in WCW. Shane had goaded Vince into allowing WCW into the arena which backfired when Booker T beat Big Show. Test is being put over as a real bad ass lately, and despite losing in his match with Rhyno earlier in the night, the new creative team are obviously high on him. Even though he’s still pretty green he has more name value than most of the other WCW wrestlers that have been signed already which is the main reason why he’s been paired with Shane.
Elsewhere, X-Factor lost in a Tables Match against The Dudley Boyz, despite Austin and Triple H’s help. Justin Credible jumped on Bubba’s back and was driven through a table stood up against the turnbuckle but both Stephanie and Regal tried to say Bubba’s elbow broke the table first. Austin and Triple H beat up X-Factor for their failure and put them in a match with Undertaker and Kane on Heat as punishment. As you can imagine, their win streak ended there. I guess the number one contenders for the tag belts is still wide open but sign point to a match at Judgement Day between the two teams.
The Hardyz beat Right to Censor and got some unlikely help from Edge and Christian who saved them from a post-match beatdown. It’s probably the only way to turn these guys, have them save one of the most popular teams from one of the most unpopular, although The Hardy Boyz were rightly cautious of their new allies. However, they couldn’t help Matt Hardy on Sunday Night Heat. Hardy lost the European Title to Albert, thanks to Ivory’s involvement. Also, Trish is now ‘dating’ Jeff Hardy in storyline thanks to Raven’s advice.
Eddie Guerrero got a DQ win over The Undertaker, pretending to the referee The Deadman had clocked him with a chair. Guerrero gloated that he had successive wins over both Brothers of Destruction. Kane and Undertaker destroyed all four The Radicalz after the match. Meanwhile, Tazz was back on the commentary desk on Smackdown but only after choking out Michael Cole, blaming him for his firing. It does look like they’re doing something with Tazz after all.
In the main event, Triple H and The Rock ended in a no contest when Kurt Angle got involved and all three men started brawling. Earlier, Stephanie had managed to stop Angle from interfering, much to Triple H’s annoyance. Austin came out and hit Angle with a Stunner, trying to get Triple H back onside. The show closed with Angle making The Rock tap out to the Ankle Lock as Austin and Triple H watched on.
They announced a few matches for their annual UK show, WWF Insurrexion, notably The Undertaker taking on Chris Benoit while Ivory will face Lita for the Women’s Title. More matches will be made next week. Other than that, I’m calling a Rock / Kurt Angle match at Judgement Day. I still can’t quite tell whether we’re going to see Austin and Triple H face each other or defend the tag belts against The Dudley Boyz.
Here's this week's match recaps!

It's Monday, we're here, let's get into it. That's right, It's time for another Mark Garcia Reports!
The main story on Raw was Shane trying to get some airtime to feature his WCW guys, but Vince was having none of that, sending out his normal troops, a team of security guards as well as Austin and Triple H. However, before things could go wild, Linda McMahon appeared and accepted Shane’s request, allowing a WCW Championship match to go ahead on WWF television. Linda barred Shane from poaching any more WWF talent but later introduced WCW referee Charles Robinson who will officiate WCW matches going forward. However, she wasn’t finished there, booking a WWF Title match between Austin and The Rock. Stephanie complained about favouritism towards Shane and after consideration, she put Triple H in the match too. Kurt Angle would later be added to the match, at The Rock’s request, making the main event a Fatal Fourway between Steve Austin, Triple H, The Rock and Kurt Angle. Austin wanted Triple H to help him retain but Triple H said it was every man for himself, once again putting the belt over strong.
Linda wasn’t finished there, wanting a decisive outcome for the WWF Tag contenders and set up The Dudley Boyz against the A.P.A as well as turning Vince’s security on him and kicking him out of the arena for the night.
Austin was paranoid all night and interfered in the Dudley Boyz match, costing them the win and would have been put through a table if it wasn’t for Triple H saving him. Triple H was pissed with Austin making more enemies before the match. Austin used it to try and get Triple H back onside but it failed. Linda later told Austin and Triple H that due to the interference the Dudleyz / A.P.A. match would be repeated at Insurrexion and any interference would result in firings. Linda was all over the place on the show, including reminding Commissioner Regal that due to Vince being thrown out, that Regal had a duty of care to the entire roster, not just Chris Jericho. Jericho somehow scored a win in an 8-on-1 handicap match against the entire Radicalz and Right to Censor. The Undertaker, Kane, Hardyz and Edge and Christian all appeared to help Jericho out.
The main event was a great, with some teamwork shown by the three heels, isolating The Rock before the inevitable happened and they all started to fight amongst themselves. When The Dudley Boyz obviously came down to ringside, it wasn’t Austin or Triple H they went after but Stephanie and Debra, thanks to Raven’s meddling advice. Triple H went after Stephanie but Austin stayed in the ring, bundling The Rock out of the ring after The People’s Elbow to pin Angle and retain the belt. However, by the time he got backstage the damage had been done and Debra had been put through a table. Austin had chose the WWF Title over his wife.
Elsewhere, the WCW Heavyweight championship was defended for the first time when Booker T faced Buff Bagwell in an average match. There were some who thought that the WWF crowd might turn against the WCW wrestlers. They had a good response but they will need to bring more than this in future if they want to get over with these fans. Bagwell got the nod after he had defeated Billy Gunn in a series of competitions, including push ups and a posedown in a funny segment. After the match, Shane really had to push Bagwell to shake hands with Booker T. Possibly a heel turn coming up?
Tazz continued his win streak with a squash match over Spike Dudley, while Rikishi defended Too Cool in an argument with X-Factor but lost in his match with Albert.
On Smackdown, both Vince and Linda McMahon laid much of the blame for Debra’a attack on Commissioner Regal, noting his feud with Jericho had become too personal. Linda revealed that she had hired a Co-Commissioner to share the workload with Regal, introducing Mick Foley. Foley’s contract would be finalised the following week. In a final act of malice, Regal requested Steve Austin face Jericho for the Intercontinental title in the main event but the WWF lawyers must have been working overtime because wouldn’t you know it, Foley's appointment was made official just in time for the main event. Foley scrapped the match and declared it would now be for the WWF Title. Jericho looked to have the match won but with Regal on commentary, Jericho became distracted and got hit with a Stunner. He was able to get revenge after the match to a degree, locking Regal in the Walls of Jericho but a Buzzsaw Kick from Tajiri meant it was Regal who had the last laugh.
Triple H and Austin put the past behind them, with Triple H saying he was no longer interested in the WWF Title and only wanted revenge on the Dudley Boyz, noting it could have been Stephanie instead of Debra. After accosting Raven for giving The Dudleyz the idea, Crash reminded them that there was another Dudley Boy in the building (Bubba and D-Von were told to stay away by the McMahon’s) and Austin and Triple H dismantled Spike Dudley, breaking his leg with a sledgehammer (in kayfabe, obviously) during his Hardcore Title match with Rhyno.
Raven and Crash were busy all night. Instead of facing each other, Shane’s WCW guys challenged the Big Show, Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly but Crash locked Big Show in the bathroom, (after Raven's advice) taking his place on the team but got pinned for his troubles with WCW getting the better of the WWF again. Vince lost his temper and went back on his promise to allow WCW in the building, kicking them all out. This cat and mouse game would spill into the ring just in time for The Rock and Kurt Angle to once again mix it up. Linda had challenged Kurt Angle, suggesting he and The Rock find a tag team partner with the winner facing Austin at Insurrexion for the WWF Title. Stephanie suggested Triple H partner with Angle, which looked to annoy Triple H. The Rock picked Booker T to partner with him, with both men unaware of Vince’s u-turn and Bradshaw and Faarooq interfered, but knocked out Angle accidentally, forcing a DQ win. Linda was annoyed so declared the match a draw, making the Insurrexion main event a Triple Threat (don't worry, it changes again!).
The Undertaker and Kane defeated Right to Censor in a handicap match but then The Radicalz stole Undertaker’s bike and set it on fire in the parking lot. This is leading up to the match between Undertaker and Benoit at Insurrexion. Later, The Hardy Boyz, Trish, Lita and Edge mocked Right to Censor, dressing up as them and cutting a funny promo in the ring. Right to Censor were disgusted by the provocative tone and attacked, seemingly having no trouble beating up women. Priorities, hey?
Jerry Lynn retained the WWF Light Heavyweight Title against X-Pac. X-Pac had been talking as though the match was a foregone conclusion and was embarrassed when Too Cool threw a victory party for him, despite his defeat.
Then it was a quick hop across the pond to Manchester for Insurrexion. These shows are really nothing more than glorified house shows but it was entertaining nonetheless. The show opened with Austin tearing into the UK crowd but was interrupted by William Regal. Regal wasn’t out to defend his countrymen, doubling down on Austin’s criticisms. This brought out Co-Commissioner Foley who decided to put Regal in the main event, which predictably led to a Stunner from Austin. The match was pretty similar to the Fatal Fourway on Raw, with Regal replacing Triple H, with Austin pinning Regal after Rock and Angle brawled into the crowd.
Elsewhere the UK crowd got to see all their favourite spots, The Hardy Boyz brought out ladders in a dreadful European Title match, where Albert retained against Matt Hardy and Bull Buchanan, with X-Factor and Right to Censor getting involved. Also, Linda McMahon made appearance, changing the tag match between the Dudleyz and A.P.A. into table match at the last moment. The Dudleyz won and now will officially challenge Austin and Triple H at Judgement Day. Huh, I guess there is some storyline progression after all.
Edge and Christian teamed with Kane against Guerrero, Saturn and Malenko in a winning effort, while Chris Benoit just came up short against The Undertaker in an extremely competitive match. Undertaker tried to shake hands with Benoit after the match but was locked in the Crossface for his troubles. Ivory beat Lita to retain the Women’s title with the usual Right to Censor shenanigans.
Mick Foley and William Regal are gold in their backstage segments together, with Tajiri adding an extra dimension. Regal made Jericho defend his belt in a battle royal, but this was mainly an excuse to get everyone on the card. Crash Holly eliminated Raven which pissed him off, while the final two guys were Jericho and Tajiri. Tajiri was eliminated when he went for the Tarantula, only to pushed over the ropes. Regal told him off for trying such a risky move.
Triple H beat Test in a cage match, with the match made by Vince as a punishment Test for joining WCW. Vince had already revealed that he had spiked Shane’s luggage, getting him held up at the airport, which is the reason he and WCW weren’t in attendance tonight. Shane did make an appearance after the bell, diving from the top of the cage onto Triple H and Vince as they looked set to attack Test with a Sledgehammer.
Overall, it was a pretty fun show. As the WWF were in Manchester, they were keen to do some cross promotion and had Manchester United soccer play, David Beckham show up in a backstage segment with The Rock. They discussed working together in Los Angeles in the future and Beckham said he liked Miami too. Who knows what this is all about?
Heat flew by with Tazz beating Crash, after Raven wanted to punish him for the elimination in the battle royal. Kurt Angle beat Bubba Ray in a singles match, thanks to interference from Stephanie which really put Triple H in a bad mood. He told Angle to stay away from Stephanie and it seems they might be leading to a payoff of this storyline from last year. The show finished with Regal facing Kane which went about as well as expected for the Englishman.

And that’s it for this week. We'll have a special write up on Friday, before WWF Judgement Day to get your thoughts. Thanks again for all your letters and emails, it means a whole lot. There’s no championship recap this week, as no titles changed hands. We’ve of course got the results of last week’s predictions, with Asaemon coming closest. He now leads the board!

Mark Garcia Reports coming early this week to recap Raw and Smackdown ahead of WWF Judgement Day on Sunday. While most of the matches have been announced, there are still a few on the card that I’ve been told will go ahead so predictions are down below!
On Raw, Vince and Shane came to an agreement, with both men naming a team for the main event. If Vince won, Shane was out of here, while if Shane won, he would be able to showcase more WCW matches. Vince chose Triple H and Austin, while Shane picked Booker T and DDP. Later in the evening, Triple H and Austin had a contract signing with The Dudley Boyz for Judgement Day which included a no touching agreement until Sunday. The Dudley Boyz were rightly sceptical, making Austin and Triple H sign first but they were outwitted when Triple H revealed he’d hired the A.P.A. who beat the crap out of the Dudleyz and put them through the contract table. When it came to the main event, The Dudleyz rightly noted that the contract did not extend to Stephanie and a returning Debra and once again chased them away from the ring, allowing Booker T and DDP to get the count out victory over Austin and Triple H. Stephanie had already interfered in a match when Kurt Angle and Tazz faced The Dudley Boyz, costing them the win. Triple H was even more angry, but when Triple H insisted that Stephanie stay backstage, she refused. Stephanie pointed out that as a McMahon, she can pretty much do whatever she wanted. Triple H assaulted Angle later in the night, kicking him out of the arena.
The Co-Commissioner’s had opened the show, and these two guys have great chemistry. Foley put a match together with Regal, Tajiri and Chris Benoit facing Jericho, Undertaker and Kane which delivered. Tajiri got the decisive pinfall over Jericho after Regal clocked him with the brass knux. After the match, Regal and The Radicalz put the boots to Undertaker and Kane until they were stopped by Foley who reminded Regal this kind of behaviour was the exact reason he’d been brought in. Foley went full gimmick mode and booked a cage match between the Benoit, Guerrero and Undertaker and Kane at Judgement Day as well as a Brass Knux on a Pole match between Jericho and Regal.
Right to Censor were furious that Foley had made a triple threat women’s title match between Ivory, Trish and Lita, suggesting that nothing would change with him in charge. Foley actually agreed and noted that the female wrestlers needed to be taken more seriously with no more sleazy gimmick matches ‘after tonight.’ Right to Censor were initially happy until Foley told them that tonight, for the final time, the WWF Women’s title would be defended in a Bra and Panties match. Trish won to become WWF Women’s Champion for the first time and I for one am glad that this match type is over and done with and look forward to more straight wrestling match types for the WWF women. After the match, Steven Richards challenged The Hardy Boyz to a match at Judgement Day, with the stipulation that they join RTC if they loose, while if the Hardyz win, RTC will disband.
The Rock faced Eddie Guerrero in an entertaining match, while Jerry Lynn defeated Justin Credible. On Metal, Big Show ended his losing streak, beating up Christian before his match against Funaki for an easy win. Big Show had gone 0-5 before this win.
On Smackdown, Vince was not having a count out victory be the decider and McMahon challenged Shane to a 5 on 5 match at Judgement Day. Shane was initially reluctant having already got what he wanted before Vince noted that Shane hadn’t signed anyone since Test, and suggested Shane was out of cash. He put up a million-dollar prize to Shane, so confident of victory. He also said that when WWF wins, Vince wanted Booker T (more specifically WCW’s title belts), which upset the rest of the WCW team, with Booker T having a job regardless of the outcome. Booker T offered to put up both the WCW Heavyweight and US titles in an effort to show he was a WCW guy. He chose to face The Rock, noting that anything other than a real challenger would appease the rest of the WCW guys. Vince challenged someone to a warmup match then and there and DDP faced Triple H in a losing effort, thanks to interference from Austin. Vince tried to pick Austin and Triple H for his team, but Foley reminded them of the contract signed on Raw and that they would vacate the belts to The Dudleyz if they failed to make the match.
Vince was back to square one and spent the rest of the night trying to pick a team, only to be undercut by Foley or the wrestlers refusing. After saving The Dudley Boyz from a McMahon organised beatdown (McMahon blamed the Dudleyz for the loss on Raw and told them they were on their last warning), Undertaker and Kane rejected Vince’s advances, while Angle initially accepted until Foley told him he had an opportunity to face The Rock in a number one contenders match, which he accepted when Foley informed him could well be for the WCW belts. Angle had been helping Triple H look for Stephanie who was missing, but spent the night trying to get himself into the match. Stephanie was actually with Jacqueline and accused Triple H of being overbearing.
Meanwhile, it was a bad night for WCW who lost every match. DDP in the aforementioned contest, while Test lost to Big Show after Crash Holly got under his feet (literally). Bradshaw and Faarooq were pissed at not being selected by Vince so beat up Kanyon and Buff Bagwell. In the main event, Booker T lost against The Rock by DQ when Kurt Angle got involved, actually trying to help The Rock, so their match at Judgment Day would be for the WCW belts. His help was rejected by The Rock and the show ended in a gigantic schmoz, with the entire roster emptying out to settle their scores before the event.
Elsewhere, Jericho teamed up again with The Undertaker and Kane to face Regal, Tajiri and Steve Austin. Austin was a reluctant partner and feigned an injury, not wanting to get involved in the match. Steven Richards tried to undermine the alliance between The Hardyz and Edge and Christian, showing all the violent acts they’ve done to each other over the years while Raven informed Crash that his recent tutelage meant he owed him a lot of money which Crash said he didn’t have.

This week’s Sunday Night Heat will be the Judgement Day Pre-Show but I’ve got the inside scoop. Let me know your predictions below! Most have been announced except for the Tazz and Michael Cole match. Tazz has mostly blamed Cole for his removal from the commentary position while Crash is clearly getting sick of Raven’s advice which normally results in him getting his butt kicked. Vince has little option to choose for his team after being rejected by everybody else so has stuck with his WWF lifers and Big Show.
Jerry Lynn v Dean Malenko (WWF Light Heavyweight) Trish v Jacqueline (WWF Women’s) Too Cool & Rikishi v X-Factor ------------------- Edge, Christian, The Hardy Boyz and Lita v Right to Censor Tazz v Michael Cole Chris Jericho v William Regal [Brass Knux on a Pole Match] (WWF Intercontinental) The Undertaker & Kane v Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit [Cage Match] Team WWF (Bradshaw, Faarooq, Big Show, Hardcore Holly & Billy Gunn) v Team WCW (Booker T, Test, Diamond Dallas Page, Buff Bagwell & Kanyon) Raven v Crash Kurt Angle v The Rock Triple H & Stone Cold v The Dudley Boyz (WWF Tag Team)

Mark Garcia Reports checking in with the recap of WWF’s Judgement Day. The event was a sell-out of the Savvis Center in St Louis, with a buy rate of 435,000. The WWF will hope the upward trend continues with 60,000 more buys than Backlash last month as there was real fear that Wrestlemania X7 was the crest of the wave for professional wrestling and there was nowhere to go but down.
This show was really quite good, with a few exceptional high spots. The biggest takeaway was Triple H knocking Stephanie off the apron through a table. He was immediately hit with a 3D as The Dudley Boyz won the WWF Tag Team Titles, clean as a whistle. Triple H had earlier locked Stephanie in their locker room so she would be safe during the match, but she escaped somehow. Austin was pissed and stormed off backstage as the EMT’s arrived to help an unresponsive Stephanie while Triple H got physical with Kurt Angle who came down to the ring to help out. I'm almost certain that these guys are going into a program together.
Angle himself was unable to get the job done against The Rock, who picked up the win to become the number one contender to the WWF Title in an excellent match. Angle looked strong, actually making The Rock tap to the Ankle Lock but there was no referee to see. It looks like The Rock and Austin will headline King of the Ring but it does beg the question where do The Dudley Boyz go next? As you’ll soon see, they won’t be short of challengers.
Shane’s WCW wrestlers beat Vince’s WWF team fairly convincingly, with Booker T and DDP overcoming Big Show who was the last WWF guy to be eliminated. Big Show looked strong despite the defeat but shockingly, Test was eliminated first which must be storyline reasoning. Test has been pushed pretty hard recently so to see him out first was a surprise. After the match, Bradshaw and Faarooq beat up Gunn and Holly but didn’t have the best luck when they tried the same on Big Show. Shane will receive $1,000,000 from Vince for the victory, as well as two matches per night to showcase WCW talent.
Right to Censor are no more after their loss to the Hardyz, Edge and Christian. RTC had a pretty good run, but it was definitely time for them to move on. Lita got the decisive pin on old white socks himself. After the match, Steven Richards got his ass kicked by his former colleagues, leaving his white shirt stained in blood. Chris Jericho retained his WWF Intercontinental title against Co-Commissioner William Regal in a Brass Knux on a Pole Match. Jericho got the knux first but got the win without using them. Regal got his heat back after the match, smashing him in the head. They teased Jericho and Tajiri which got a pretty good reaction from the crowd. Mick Foley had already frisked Regal to find he had been hiding brass knux on his person before the match in what are quickly becoming some of the standout segments of WWF programming.
Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero got an unexpected win over The Undertaker and Kane in their cage match. Wow, what a match. Five stars. Stop what you're doing and go watch it immediately. The Radicalz, who couldn’t rely on Saturn and Malenko for help after they had been destroyed on Sunday Night Heat by Undertaker and Kane, used their cunning and quickness to get the win. The brothers had allowed Benoit escape from the cage so they could beat up on Eddie Guerrero. When Undertaker hoisted Guerrero up for a Last Ride, Benoit (who was on the top of the cage) was able to grab him off his shoulders and they both escaped. Great finish and match of the night, just edging out Rock and Angle.
Elsewhere, Tazz beat Michael Cole in what was more of an angle than a match, tapping him out in seconds before beating up Jerry Lawler for good measure. It was probably the right thing to do after Lawler had beaten Tazz last year. Tazz told the rest of the WWF locker room he was back to business. King’s absence left Heyman and J.R. on commentary with the WWF experimenting a three man commentary team for pay per views.
Raven beat Crash in a quick match before Crash was accosted and sent away to work on an oil rig where he could repay his debt to Raven. I don’t think we’ll be seeing him for a while. Over on Heat, Trish made her first Women’s title defence against Jacqueline, while Too Cool and Rikishi beat X-Factor.
Check out my match scores below.
