Even though Taboo Hour seems to be your less important weekly, this one was really good. It started out with Shawn delivering a great babyface promo we could picture and had two matches to build the stars you need to build. Classic booking.
The Piper's Pit, however, was the best part of the show imo. It was a very nice touch to bring up a thing from the past (Sandman's injury from last year's Crockett Cup). Somehow, Bill Gagne comes out as a heelish authority figure that actually has some motivations to keep Sandman out of the tournament. And we love conflictive stories.

Definitely a lot of good content here, and I've come to realise that James Sandoval is Booker T. I think I've still got a lot of reading to do, but just to let you know I'll be following up!

Really looking forward to the Crockett Cup. The tag team match in particular gives me old school ECW vibes. Taz had faced Benoit and Malenko several times in tag matches. In my New York City Wrestling save I have Tazz teaming with Kevin Sullivan. They are feuding with The Funk Bros. Tazz is one of the top guys on my roster. Currently a heel. A Booker T vs. Shawn Michaels feud in the mid-90's could have been money! Roddy Piper in any segment on your shows should get a high rating. Good stuff. I'm looking forward to what's to come!

🎖️ CHAMPIONS 🎖️ AWA World Heavyweight Title: Shawn Michaels AWA International Television Title: Mr. Sandman AWA World Tag Team Titles: Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit AWA Texas Heavyweight Title: Red Hook Machine
SEGMENT - Ted DiBiase and Big Bossman are talking at the opening of the show. Tonight is Brian Pillman’s Crockett Cup elimination match and he hasn’t been seen yet. DiBiase talks about it. He says that Pillman won’t be able to make it to the match tonight because they threw Pillman and Eddie into the middle of nowhere and the Crockett Cup adventure will be over before it even starts. He finally lets out a million dollar laugh. (72)
2 on 1 Handicap Match | The Great Muta (w/Skandor Akbar) defeated “American Sweet” Stan Lane and Perry Saturn in 7:27 when Stan Lane was injured and could not continue Lane still has bandages on his knee and it is not fully healed. However, he still enters the match. During the match, he and Saturn establish a good advantage. However, Muta works on Lane's knee and at the end of the match, he makes Lane unable to continue the match. Thus, the referee ends the match and Muta wins the handicap match. (67)
SEGMENT - Michael Hayes is backstage excitedly preparing for tonight's concert. He is also extra excited because their album is coming out today. But suddenly Jeff Jarrett bursts into the room. He says he has received a very important phone call and takes Hayes away. We don't understand what happened. After a while, we get the news that the concert is cancelled. (76)
AWA World Tag Team Championship | Unorthodox Cirice (King Kong Bundy and Red Hook Machine) (w/Jesse Ventura) defeated Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit (c) in 10:29 We watch a magnificent in-ring scene. Malenko and Benoit work as a team to prevent Red Hook from tagging Bundy. Since Bundy has the potential to dominate the match with his large size, they try to get Red Hook as much as possible. However, Ventura distracts the referee from outside the ring and interferes in the match, which doesn't go according to plan, and Bundy gets tagged in. The match's fate changes from this point on, and UC takes the upper hand. They win the match and capture the tag team titles! Both teams' in-ring performances were impressive. (75)
SEGMENT - After the match, Bigelow comes backstage under Ventura’s direction and continues to beat up Malenko and Benoit, along with Bundy and Red Hook in the ring. Since Pillman is not in the arena, no one comes to save them. The new tag team champions pose with their belts. Ventura is happy. (85)
SEGMENT - Brian Pillman in the arena! Pillman, who has been missing for some time, enters the arena and heads to the ring for his Crockett Cup first round match. He has a slight limp and his face is covered in bruises. (79)
Crockett Cup First Round | Brian Pillman defeated Lionheart in 5:19 by pinfall with a Flying Cross Body Block Pillman starts the match very fast and makes a big impact on his opponent. We watch a good match when Lionheart resists from time to time. During the match, DiBiase comes to the entrance with his surprised eyes and Bossman by his side and watches the match from there. Pillman knows how to win the match and despite DiBiase, he advances to the quarter finals of the Crockett Cup! (66)
SEGMENT - We see Mick Foley in the locker room. He runs into Bob Backlund as he walks. There is an awkward silence. Backlund says he will help him in the Crockett Cup tournament and make him win all the matches. Foley thanks him. Then the two walk off in different directions. The conversation is so fast that the segment only lasts 2 minutes. (78)
AWA International Television Championship | Mr. Sandman (c) defeated Moadib in 11:05 by pinfall with a White Russian Legsweep There is no one outside the ring. Special precautions have been taken to ensure that no one interferes with the match. While Moadib is dominant from the beginning to the middle, Sandman gains the upper hand with the support of the crowd and retains his title for the second time. Let's see if he will continue to hold this belt without participating in the tournament. (74)
SEGMENT - Youngster Scott Hudson interviews Arn Anderson backstage: Everyone I met on the way here thought I was crazy for accepting a challenge to Davey Boy in this type of match. BUT THEY WERE WRONG! Who was it that beat him up in his own home weeks ago? Tell me Scott, come on! I have the "technique of beating" and that's not Davey's talent! (74)
Pure Wrestling Match | Davey Boy Smith defeated Arn Anderson in 12:02 by pinfall with a Running Powerslam To briefly mention the rules of the match: Both wrestlers have three rope break rights. When they use up these rope break rights, touching the ropes to escape submission moves will not be beneficial. Also, actions such as punching from close range are prohibited during the match. It will be a completely technical wrestling match. We are watching a magnificent in-ring and a beautiful technical match. As expected, Davey is very superior in the beginning of the match. When Anderson stealthily hits a low blow when the referee is distracted, we see him ahead for a while. However, Davey does not allow for surprises and knows how to win the match. (82)
SEGMENT - Gene Okerlund interviews AWA World champion Shawn Michaels before the next match. Okerlund says that he tried to talk to Sandoval tonight but he vehemently refused because he was focused on the match. Shawn also talks about this: I'm not surprised at all. He's not focused on the match. He's just scared right now. He's scared that his ass will get kicked again and he won't get another shot at the title. Because AWA management and the people he thinks he's talking to are tired of his excuses! (90)
AWA World Heavyweight Championship | Shawn Michaels (c) defeated James Sandoval in a No Holds Barred match in 16:43 by stoppage There is no disqualification or count out in the match. Everything is allowed. We watch a lot of chair shots throughout the match. A hardcore effect that the AWA audience is not used to (not too much) is also felt throughout the match. The referee also gets his share of this situation at the end of the match. When Sandoval accidentally hits the referee with a chair, the referee falls on the ground covered in blood. The match continues without a referee for a while. Shawn does Sweet Chin Music for the third time, but there is no referee to give the pin. After a while, a referee comes and counts the pin. However, Sandoval does not get the pin because too much time is wasted. This time, Shawn takes a short ladder from under the ring. He puts it in the ring and splashes Sandoval with the chair he has in his hand! He also suffers a very serious injury and cannot get the pin. Both men lie motionless on the ground. The referee starts counting. Shawn somehow gets to his feet, albeit with difficulty. However, Sandoval is in no condition to continue. The referee ends the match! Shawn retains his title for the eighth time. (77)

Only now could I read this and I'm sorry for being a bit late. How can Saturn possibly recover from the feud with Muta? He isn't at fault for his team's loss here, but still... I'm ok with the push to Muta, tho. Wondering what's the deal with Michael Hayes... his concert's cancellation is too abrupt. It seems you got a nice tag team match and a title chance happened. Red Hook is definitely the one to watch in the team, but their very different styles (although both dominating) should provide us an interesting reign. Pillman not in the arena to save Benoit and Malenko JUST BEFORE actually showing up in the arena is wild Will they confront him for being there and not saving them? Pillman vs. Jericho should be an interesting match in 3 or 4 years. I really thought Sandman could be losing the International Title here so he could then blame Bill Gagne for banning him of participating in the tournament, but it may be interesting that he kept it so he can at least shove that in Bill's face. I like a good old-fashioned (or ROH-fashioned) Pure Rules Match. Davey and Arn could definitely work the style, even though none of them was known for being a submission wrestler. Davey outsmart Arn is cool too, but if I know AA, he will do something about it. Shawn's reign is good and he seems unstoppable by now. His feud with Sandoval is likely over and I wonder who's the next challenger. Bam Bam Bigelow and Davey Boy Smith can be contenders - even if Davey is a babyface... Good show!

SEGMENT - At the opening of the show, AWA President Bill Gagne invites the entire Unorthodox Cirice to the ring to congratulate them. The faction arrives, led by Jesse Ventura. Gagne shakes their hands one by one to congratulate them. With Bundy and Red Hook winning the AWA World Tag titles on Saturday, the UC's momentum has increased considerably. Ventura makes it clear that their next goal is the AWA World Championship. Gagne makes his announcement at that very moment: Bam Bam Bigelow, the star of the Team Challenge Series, the man who won the series for his team, has been named the new number one contender for the AWA championship. Gagne adds: I would like to thank Mr. Ventura, the greatest ally of the AWA, the Gagne family and of course the United States, who never ceased to help me during the presidential election. Real champions should be like these men who have united around him. (87)
SEGMENT - Brian Pillman and Eddie Guerrero cut a promo backstage. They both survived the jungle where DiBiase and Bossman threw them. And they want to “finish” things tonight. They challenge them to a tag team match! (88)
Bob Backlund (w/Mick Foley) defeated Lance Storm in 6:06 by submission with a Cross Face Chicken Wing Backlund and Foley come to the match together. Backlund acts a little crazy during the match, just like in the past. He seems a little uncomfortable with Foley being at ringside for some reason. Foley supports him openly. (Pre-match: 86 / Match: 66)
SEGMENT - AWA International Television champion Sandman says he has an important announcement to make backstage. Gene Okerlund has the microphone to him: I've been thinking about it for the last week. I've only been thinking about it. I had to make a big decision for the future of my career in this company, in this industry. I believe I made the right decision. Let everyone hear and know: I AM ENTRYING into the Crockett Cup tournament! Bill Gagne, whatever you're going to do, do it now! Because I don't care about this title anymore or any punishment you can give me! (89)
SEGMENT - We see Jeff Jarrett and Michael Hayes, whose concerts were canceled at the Gauntlet 15, at the airport. They have a very serious and anxious conversation. After a while, we understand from the conversation that the two are rushing to Hollywood, LA for Diamond Dallas Page. Jarrett received a call from an acquaintance there about DDP. It was a call that DDP was in a bad situation and needed help. Jarrett and Hayes left everything they were doing and hit the road. As you may remember, DDP is an important name for both names in terms of their Hollywood careers. (78)
Crockett Cup First Round | Mr. Sandman defeated Tom Prichard in 8:24 by pinfall with a White Russian Legsweep Sandman officially joins the tournament by entering this match. He knows how to win after a great in-ring performance. The support from the crowd is extraordinary. (74)
SEGMENT - Lanny The Clever, who was not seen for a short while, gives a short statement to Gene Okerlund. He will introduce his new student in a short time. He has high hopes for him and has shared everything he knows with him. He has made him study well. He will be playing a match in a short time. This person is: MORTIS KANYON! When Lanny announces his name, Kanyon enters the frame. (67)
Mortis Kanyon (w/Lanny The Clever) defeated Tito Santana in 4:56 by pinfall with a Cutter Lanny's new student Kanyon gets an important victory by defeating his experienced opponent. However, the truth is that young Kanyon is not very good in the ring. His performance skills improve a little with this match. (47)
SEGMENT - Okerlund reports the latest developments from backstage: Bill Gagne has officially vacated the AWA International Television title!!! The fate of the title is unknown at this time. AWA World champion Shawn Michaels approaches Okerlund at this time. He reacts quite angrily to the decision: Really Bill? You've been nothing but trouble for me and Sandman since you came to this company! There will come a time when you'll get your ass kicked too! Believe me when I tell ya! (68)
Brian Pillman and Eddie Guerrero drew with Ted DiBiase and Big Bossman in 18:06 following a double count out The match is completely in a brawl. As DiBiase and Bossman enter the ring, Pillman and Eddie attack them from behind. The match cannot start for a long time because of this. When we return to the ring, we watch a very long match with long locks and mat wrestling on the ground. However, the inside of the ring is very successful. Only Pillman was not on his day. At the end of the match, just like at the beginning, a brawl occurs again and the four of them fight each other outside the ring in front of the announce table. They do not seem to care about the match. Both teams are eventually counted out. The show ends with these brawl scenes. (77)

Ah! I knew Bam Bam would be the new contender. He has lots of momentum and I'm sure HBK vs. BBB can be a good match. Personally, I think the words "I don't care about this title" are a little harsh, unless you're planning to ditch it away entirely. Still, it's Sandman, after all, and I had the small feeling he was going to enter the Crockett Cup anyway. I'm still wondering what's the whole Hayes/Jarrett/DDP situation really about. Can't wait to see Mortis Kanyon get tired of Lanny's bullshit already. What's his gimmick, btw? Mortis? Or Kanyon? Good main event, capitalizing on a big blood feud you have been running for some time now. It's still very inconclusive with the double count-out finish and I'm sure we're going to see some extreme things inside the ring between those four.

AWA Championship Wrestling Episode 128 Monday, Week 1, September 1993
🎙️ Announcers - Rod Trongard, Eric Bischoff and Larry Zbyszko 🏟️ Attendance - 6,710 📺 Rating - 4.81 (3,129,230 viewers on DSF, TBS, Telelatino, WGN) ✍️ Show Grade - B (81)
🎖️ CHAMPIONS 🎖️ AWA World Heavyweight Title: Shawn Michaels AWA International Television Title: - AWA World Tag Team Titles: Unorthodox Cirice (King Kong Bundy and Red Hook Machine) AWA Texas Heavyweight Title: Red Hook Machine
SEGMENT - AWA World champion Shawn Michaels opens the show in the ring. He talks about the new number one contender announced last week, Bam Bam Bigelow. “The insidious formation called Unorthodox Cirice is on the move again. Their self-confidence has increased since the Team Challenge Series and now I'm afraid they are using the president of this company for their own purposes. I defeated you guys at the beginning of the year, but I couldn’t destroy you. If I had destroyed you, last week’s nonsense wouldn’t have happened, Sandman would have kept the title. Sandman, I will get your revenge, my friend. I will do to Bigelow just like I did to his predecessors, I will kick him in the mouth, I will dance on his chin! BELIEVE ME WHEN I TELL YA!” Jesse Ventura and his Unorthodox Cirice appear at the entrance. Ventura walks with a microphone in his hand, talking: “There’s a little mistake in what you said, little friend. You didn’t defeat all of us. And you can’t destroy this mighty army unless you defeat all of us! I'm sure you weren't in the military, so let me explain it to you in terms you can understand. What you see behind me is the biggest ARMY in this company. I'm their general, they've done and will do whatever I tell them to do. They are live and die on my shadow! As you can see, the AWA World Tag Team champions and the AWA Texas Heavyweight champion are part of this army. Now we're coming for that big gold coin you have on your belt. Maybe we don't have to wait for the Crockett Cup, we can rip it off right now. What do you say?" As soon as he says this, the UC members try to attack Shawn. But at that moment, The Hart Battalion (Owen and Davey) come running to the rescue! The planned attack on Shawn is thus thwarted. UC leaves. It was a great segment. (96)
SEGMENT - Lanny The Clever continues to give speeches praising his new apprentice Mortis Kanyon before the next match. He says he is training the company's next champion. He has been studying very well. (66)
Mortis Kanyon (w/Lanny The Clever) defeated Ricky Morton in 5:29 by pinfall with a Cutter
Like last week, Kanyon crushes its opponent. (48)
SEGMENT - Images of Mick Foley and Bob Backlund from the asylum are shown on the screen. They are preparing for a Crockett Cup tournament in the asylum's small gym. Backlund is acting as a coach. They are shouting so loudly that the camera can't pick up the sound properly and the sound is distorted. Foley cuts a promo while lifting weights: One day I'm going to lift the Crockett trophy like this. In the air exactly like this! I'm going to throw it in the air and catch it! Then I'm going to bring it back here and we'll pour wine in it with our friends from the asylum and drink it! (85)
SEGMENT - The Great Muta and Skandor Akbar, who appeared on screen for the first time after Gauntlet 15, come to the ring with a US flag. There is a huge booing in the arena. Akbar says that they put the “two American idiots” in their place at the same time 2 weeks ago. Just like in the war, they captured the enemy’s flag with this victory. And now Muta will make a final “touch” on this flag. We understand that he will spit the red mist he is holding in his mouth onto the flag. The booing increases. However, at that very moment, Ricky Steamboat comes running from backstage and enters the ring and attacks both Muta and Akbar, throwing them out of the ring. He picks up the US flag from the ground, raises it in the air and waves it! (72)
Crockett Cup First Round | Mudslide Bradshaw (w/Paul Ellering) defeated Butch Reed in 8:21 by submission
With Ellering’s intervention outside the ring, young Bradshaw won the match and qualified for the quarter-finals. (56)
SEGMENT - Jeff Jarrett and Michael Hayes have come to Hollywood to look for Diamond Dallas Page. They are going to meet the person who they received the message that DDP is bad. The meeting place is a movie set. The duo arrives on the set and asks the workers around where DDP is. All the workers tell them that DDP is in a terrible state, that he acted very badly in the last movie and did not get the auditions, that he argued with the producers and then he was fired from the set. They later hear that DDP is homeless and penniless. Jarrett and Hayes are very worried after what they hear and continue to look for the person they are going to meet on the set. (67)
AWA International Television Championship | Eddie Guerrero won 10-Man Battle Royal in 14:21 (Participants: Arn Anderson, Big Bossman, Brian Pillman, Chris Candido, Eddie Guerrero, Jerry Lynn, Owen Hart, Perry Saturn, Rob Van Dam and Ted DiBiase) We are watching a great battle royal match. Although it is hard to follow at first, it also becomes enjoyable to watch as the eliminations start to slowly start in the middle. Pillman, DiBiase, Bossman and Eddie, who have been fighting each other since the beginning of the match, are left in the final four. Of course, they fight each other as a team. Shockingly, Pillman is the first of these four to be eliminated. Eddie is left alone in the ring and gets beaten up for a while. Pillman does not go backstage and distracts DiBiase from outside the ring. Thanks to this, Eddie gets a chance to recover and throws both men out of the ring one by one, becoming the new International Television champion! (80)
