WWE Royal Rumble January 28, 2007 AT&T Center San Antonio, TX
*Bobby Lashley d. Mr. Kennedy by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title In the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble, Bobby Lashley had regained the United States Championship from Mr. Kennedy, leading to this rematch at the Pay Per View. The Loudmouth tried to take advantage of an early mistake by Lashley which saw the champion injure his knee. Kennedy worked over this injured knee in an attempt to wear down Lashley, but the champion overcame the injury and hit broke out of the challenger's attempt to hit the Mic Check. Lashley then hit a Spear followed by a Dominator to pick up the win and retain the title.
*Garrison Cade & Trevor Murdoch d. Ric Flair & Carlito by Pinfall to Win the World Tag Team Titles The unlikely mentorship duo of Ric Flair and Carlito had managed to wrestle away the tag team titles from Rated-RKO (albeit with help from John Cena), setting up this title match against Cade and Murdoch. The former champions spent much of the match isolating Flair and using whatever tactics they could muster to keep Carlito out of the match. Flair eventually made the hot tag to Carlito, but with the Nature Boy worked over he couldn't provide backup to Carlito, making the match a glorified handicap match. Flair tried to get involved near the end, resulting in accidentally distracting the referee, allowing Cade to hit Carlito with the tag team title belt after Carlito had hit the Backstabber on Murdoch. Murdoch then rolled over for the pin as he and Cade regained the tag titles. After the match, a frustrated Carlito turned on Flair, hitting him with a boot to the midsection followed by a Backstabber.
*Jimmy Wang Yang d. Chavo Guerrero & Gregory Helms by Pinfall to Retain the Cruiserweight Title The would-be cowboy Jimmy Wang Yang had shocked a lot of people by beating Chavo Guerrero for the Cruiserweight Title, though this victory was with the help of former champion Gregory Helms. This led to a triple threat match for the title at the Royal Rumble, with the champion at a clear disadvantage at least on paper. Thankfully for him, though, Guerrero and Helms were far more concerned with taking each other out then dealing with the champion, allowing Yang to pick his spot, waiting till Helms hit a Vertebreaker on Guerrero and then diving in at the last minute with a senton splash to break up the pinfall and then steal the victory, keeping his title.
*Batista d. King Booker w/Queen Sharmell in a Steel Cage Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The feud between King Booker and Batista reached its potential final chapter, as Booker challenged The Animal for the World Heavyweight Championship. He had won the right courtesy of his victory at Armageddon, but in order to keep the King's Court out of the match, Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long ordered the match to take place in a Steel Cage. This did not stop Booker's Knight of the Round from trying to interfere in the match, as Henry came to ringside and broke through the door after a competitive match, attacking Batista. The Animal however bested Mark Henry, and before Booker could sneak through the open door, Batista speared the World's Strongest Man through the cage and to the outside, landing outside on the floor and beating Booker and retaining the title.
*John Cena d. Edge & Randy Orton by Submission to Retain the WWE Championship WWE Champion was set to defend his title in a triple threat match against both members of Rated RKO. Raw General Manager Shane McMahon had made this match in an attempt to stir up "healthy competition" on his show. Both Orton and Edge seemed to be on the same page when it came to defeating Cena, especially after the Champ cost them the tag titles on an episode of Raw. However during the triple threat match, cracks started to form in the marriage of convenience between the two men, and before long they were fighting amongst themselves against Cena. In the end, Edge saved Cena from an RKO by Spearing Orton, only for Cena to lock the Rated R Superstar in the STF to pick up the submission victory.
*Shawn Michaels Won the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match The annual Royal Rumble match started with Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy taking on the tough newcomer, MVP. Both men would last a long time in the match, hiding amongst the titans in the middle of the match like Kane and The Big Show. US Champion Bobby Lashley entered the match at #12 and had a good showing, including easily tossing The Big Show out of the match to the shock of the Giant. In the end, the match came down to the two veterans in the match, as Shawn Michaels took on the Undertaker. After a lengthy, 4 minute, battle, Undertaker tossed Michaels out of the ring, seemingly to eliminate him. However in a mirror of his Royal Rumble victory 11 years earlier, Michaels skinned the cat and made his way back into the ring, delivering Sweet Chin Music to the exhausted Undertaker and eliminating the Phenom, winning his 2nd Rumble in front of his hometown crowd.

WWE No Way Out February 18, 2007 Staples Center Los Angeles, CA SMACKDOWN Exclusive Event
*Chris Benoit d. Gregory Helms by Submission The self-professed greatest Cruiserweight Champion of all time had made it his mission to "move up in the world" and challenge tougher competition in the WWE. His open challenge for No Way Out was answered by the Rabid Wolverine, Chris Benoit, who was eager to give Helms a challenge. What followed was a hard-hitting match that Helms nearly won in an upset, hitting the Shining Wizard on Benoit, but only garnering a two count. Helms went for the Shining Wizard a second time, only to be caught by Benoit who stood up and hooked Helms' legs into a Sharpshooter to pick up the victory.
*Jamie Noble & The Miz d. Scotty 2 Hotty & Funaki by Pinfall In a standard tag match, the newly formed team of Jamie Noble and The Miz defeated the makeshift duo of Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki via pinfall, with The Miz hitting the Skull Crushing Finale for a victory.
*Nick Domino & The New Freebirds [Ray Jay Gordy & Doc Gallows] w/Cherry d. Rey Mysterio, Paul London & Brian Kendrick by Pinfall A new tag team based off the original Fabulous Freebirds (and led by Terry Gordy's son, Ray Jay Gordy) had debuted on Smackdown recently. Teaming with Greaser Nick Domino, the trio challenged the WWE Tag Team Champions of Paul London and Brian Kendrick to face them in a six man tag, even agreeing that London and Kendrick could pick a partner of their choice. The tag champs teamed with former World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio, which seemed to throw the trio of youngsters off balance in the end. The largest man in the match though, Doc Gallows, was able to take control though and power through much of the match, up until London made a hot tag to Rey, who proceeded to clean house. The end came though when Kendrick and Gordy were the legal men. A distraction by Cherry on the outside allowed Gordy to hit Kendrick with a loaded cowboy boot and pick up the victory over the tag team champions.
*Daivari d. Jimmy Wang Yang by Disqualification [Jimmy Retains the Cruiserweight Title] The former translator/associate of Muhammad Hassan, Daivari, had returned to Smackdown in recent weeks and had made it his goal to win the Cruiserweight Championship, challenging Jimmy Wang Yang for the title at No Way Out. Daivari went all out, even using a pair of brass knuckles when the referee was temporarily knocked out (and stuffing them in Yang's jeans to hide them), but this only garnered a two count. Yang eventually took control and hit the Yang Time for the win, but after the match Daivari complained of the brass knuckles shot, exposing the "evidence" on Yang's person, causing the referee to reverse the decision and award a DQ victory to the challenger.
*MVP d. Bobby Lashley by Pinfall to Win the United States Title Two of the hottest young stars on Smackdown did battle for the US Title, as Bobby Lashley defended against MVP. This match had some extra meaning, as just the Monday prior Lashley had been named as the representative of Donald Trump in the "Battle of the Billionaires" against Vince McMahon's representative, The Big Show. The brash MVP came in full of confidence, but that quickly fell by the wayside as he dealt with the overwhelming power of the US Champion, who looked to continue his run of dominance. However an errant clothesline from the champion caused the referee to go down. As Lashley set up for a Dominator on MVP, he was suddenly attacked by The Big Show, who came out of the crowd and laid out the US Champion with his knockout punch, the Right Hand of Doom. MVP then crawled over and made the cover as the referee came too, pinning Lashley and winning the United States Championship.
*Batista d. Mr. Kennedy by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The loudmouth Mr. Kennedy had earned a title shot against World Heavyweight Champion Batista courtesy of pinning the champion in a six man tag match on an episode of Smackdown, before following up that victory with another victory in a non-title match the following week (though this latter one was due to the interference of King Booker). Kennedy seemed to continue this trend in the early going of this match, taking advantage of an errant attempted shoulder tackle into the ringpost and working over Batista's arm in an effort to take out The Animal's power game. Batista battled back though and eventually got the win with a Batista Bomb to retain the title.
*The Undertaker d. King Booker w/Queen Sharmell by Pinfall in a No Disqualification Match With Royal Rumble winner Shawn Michaels having already made clear his intentions to challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 23, Smackdown GM Theodore Long made this match for No Way Out to determine who would challenge Batista for the World Heavyweight Title at the Showcase of the Immortals. Having successfully defended his title in the previous match, Batista remained at ringside to view this match up close and personal. Booker played a game of cat and mouse with the Phenom, only getting physical with him after Batista seemingly forced his hand and chased him back into the ring. This brought out the Knight of the Round, Mark Henry, who attacked Batista at ringside and who's distraction allowed Booker to take control over the Deadman. However Booker was unable to put away The Deadman and, towards the end of the match, Batista came back out (having been helped to the back earlier following the World's Strongest Man's attack.) The battle between Henry and Batista consumed Booker as collateral damage, leading to the King being caught by The Undertaker in a Chokeslam before the Phenom finished off King Booker with a Tombstone Piledriver, before helping Batista chase Henry and Booker away from ringside. As the show closed, the Phenom slashed his thumb across his throat as Batista held the World Heavyweight Title high in the air, the showdown between the two having been set in stone.
Off-Camera Title Changes: February 19: John Cena & Shawn Michaels d. Garrison Cade & Trevor Murdoch for the World Tag Team Titles March 5: Ashley Massaro d. Jillian Hall for the Divas Title March 9: Daivari d. Jimmy Wang Yang for the Cruiserweight Title March 12: The World's Greatest Tag Team d. John Cena & Shawn Michaels for the World Tag Team Titles

ECW Living Dangerously March 31, 2007 Cobo Arena Detroit, MI ECW Exclusive Event
*The Sandman d. Test w/Lou E. Dangerously in a Singapore Cane Match Anti-ECW crusader Test had continued his quest to undermine the extreme brand, targeting one of the icons of the promotion in The Sandman. Moreover, Test had taken to using The Sandman's signature Singapore Cane in beating down the ECW original, leading to ECW GM Paul Heyman making this a Singapore Cane on a Pole Match, where the object was to grab the cane at the top of the pole, where the winner could then Cane the opponent with impunity. Despite Test's athletic prowess, Sandman was able to grab the cane first, and proceeded to lay out Test (as well as Test's manager, Lou E. Damgerously, with the weapon.
*Cody Rhodes d. KC James by Pinfall In a standard match, second generation star Cody Rhodes continued his run of dominance, defeating KC James with the Cross Rhodes .
*The FBI [Little Guido, Tony Mamaluke & Big Guido] d. Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins & "Pirate" Paul Burchill by Pinfall Pirate Paul Burchill had made his debut into ECW after leaving the Raw brand in late 2006. He quickly went on a winning streak in his new brand, and began a feud with the Full Blooded Italians in the process, leading to this six man tag match, with Burchill teaming with the young tag team of Hawkins and Ryder. Burchill dominated the match, hitting Tony Mamaluke with the Walk the Plank finisher. But Big Guido was able to take out the would-be pirate, leaving Little Guido to hit the Sicilian Leg Drop on Ryder to pick up the win for the FBI.
*Rob Van Dam & Sabu d. Matt Striker & Marcus Cor Von by Pinfall to Win the ECW World Tag Team Titles Matt Striker and the Alpha Male Marcus Cor Von had dominated everyone put in front of them since winning the tag titles in January. Striker had started bad mouthing Van Dam for his particular "choice of lifestyle", eluding to the fact that the former ECW Champion had been suspended the previous year for marijuana possession. Sabu and RVD reformed their team from the heyday of ECW to challenge Striker and Cor Von for the Tag Team Titles. As with most of his matches, the Alpha Male controlled the contest when he was in the match. However Sabu and RVD were able to overcome Cor Von's power, isolating him and knocking him out of the match, leaving Striker susceptible to being pinned via a 5 Star Frogsplash.
*Tommy Dreamer d. Hardcore Holly by Pinfall In a standard match, Tommy Dreamer defeated Hardcore Holly after hitting him with a Dreamer DDT.
*CM Punk d. Umaga w/Tazz by Pinfall to Win the ECW World Championship The two biggest young stars of the new ECW were set to square off, with the undefeated Samoan Savage defending against CM Punk. Umaga had handed Punk a rare loss on an episode of ECW on SciFi in a non-title match, albeit with help from Tazz. This forced Punk to win a triple threat match to earn a title shot at Living Dangerously. Umaga controlled the match early on, forcing the Straight Edge Superstar to fight from underneath throughout the match. Punk however adopted a rope-a-dope strategy, leading to wearing out Umaga. Tazz attempted to get involved, but was KO'ed by a shot from Punk. Umaga attempted to use the Samoan Spike on the challenger, but Punk ducked underneath, hit another kick to the side of Umaga's head, before hitting a Go 2 Sleep on the Samoan Savage to pick up the win and capture the ECW title to close the show.

WWE Wrestlemania 23 April 1, 2007 Ford Field Detroit, MI
*Carlito d. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair by Pinfall Since turning on the Nature Boy following their loss of the tag titles earlier in the year, Carlito had been involved in a game of one upsmanship as the so-called "Dirtiest Player in the Game." As such, their match at Wrestlemania was a showcase in underhanded tactics. In the end, Flair worked over Carlito's knee and was seemingly setting up for the Figure-4 Leglock, when Carlito kicked Flair away, forcing him into the referee. Carlito then hit Flair with a low blow followed by a Backstabber to pick up the victory.
*Paul London & Brian Kendrick d. The New Freebirds [Ray Jay Gordy & Doc Gallows] w/Michael Hayes by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Tag Team Titles The New Freebirds had been formed at the start of the year, consisting of Luke "Doc" Gallows and the son of original Freebird Terry Gory, Ray Jay Gordy. Along with original Freebird Michael PS Hayes as their manager, the team had managed a winning streak on Smackdown, including non-title victories over the WWE Tag Team Champions of London and Kendrick. This earned them a Wrestlemania title shot. Early on the duo took advantage of Hayes being in their corner, but that quickly changed when the referee ejected their manager from the ringside area after catching him in the act of interference. London and Kendrick then took control, and despite the power advantage that Gallows afforded the challengers, Kendrick was able to pin Gordy following a Sliced Bread #2, followed by a running Shooting Star Press from London for the victory.
*Mr. Kennedy d. Jeff Hardy, Johnny Nitro, Kane, Matt Hardy, Gregory Helms, Rey Mysterio & Finlay in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match The annual Money in the Bank Ladder Match saw 4 superstars from Smackdown and 4 superstars from Raw compete for the golden ticket of a guaranteed championship match. This guarantee had propelled both Edge and Booker T to title wins in previous years. The match appeared to be Jeff Hardy's to lose, as the Intercontinental Champion used his experience in Ladder matches to his advantage. However Jeff couldn't resist the temptation for death-defying antics, hitting a Swanton off a Ladder onto a prone Gregory Helms (who was lying on another ladder that was bridged from the ring to the guardrail on the outside), taking both men out. In the end Kane appeared to be heading towards a victory, when Finlay whacked him in the back of the head with a Shellaileigh, taking him out of the equation. This distraction though opened the door for Mr. Kennedy to scurry up the ladder and grab the briefcase, becoming the new Mr. Money in the Bank.
*MVP d. Chris Benoit by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title Montel Vontavious Porter had become United States Champion the previous month (albeit with help from The Big Show), and the following week on Smackdown had a premier celebration for his title victory. However his celebration was interrupted by arguably the greatest US Champion in WWE history in the form of Chris Benoit. Benoit challenged MVP to a title match then and there, but MVP refused, instead granting Benoit a non-title contest the following week. Benoit won this match in less than a minute, thus leading Smackdown GM Theodore Long to grant him a title match at Wrestlemania. In contrast to the Smackdown match, MVP wasn't overconfident and actually managed to match the technically minded Benoit hold for hold for a brief while. Benoit eventually took control and hit the Hat Trick of German Suplexes before going for his Diving Headbutt. MVP however was able to move out of the way and then hit the Playmaker for the pinfall victory. After the match, Benoit shook MVP's hand and left the ring for the US Champ to celebrate.
*The World's Greatest Tag Team [Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas] d. The Highlanders [Robbie & Rory MacAllister] w/Roddy Piper, Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] and Garrison Cade & Trevor Murdoch by Pinfall to Retain the World Tag Team Titles Haas and Benjamin had reunited on Raw, reforming the World's Greatest Tag Team and immediately becoming World Tag Team Champions in the process. They issued an open challenge to any team on Raw, leading to first The Highlanders answering, before being interrupted by Cade & Murdoch. Things were also complicated with the addition of former ECW Tag Team Champions Cryme Tyme, who had made their debut on Raw in the middle of March, leading to a Fatal Fourway match being made for the tag belts. The Highlanders enteredthe ring with pomp and circumstance, including being escorted by WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper to ringside. However the teamwork of Benjamin and Haas was on full display, and the champions picked up the victory, intercepting Shad after he hit Cade with a Drive-By Lariat and throwing him out of the ring, allowing Haas to pick up the pinfall and retain the titles.
*Edge d. Randy Orton by Pinfall The Marriage of Convenience that was Rated-RKO had fractured at the Royal Rumble in the face of the WWE Title, leading to a prolonged feud between the Rated-R Superstar and the Legend Killer. Their Wrestlemania encounter was largely centered around the fact that one move from either man could end the match, in the case of the RKO for Randy Orton and the Spear for Edge. However as the match dragged on and neither man could put the other man away, the tables were turned when Orton hit a Spear on Edge for a 2 count, and Edge hit his version of an RKO on Orton for another near fall. In the end, Orton lined up for a Punt Kick against Edge, only for the Rated R Superstar to dodge out of the way. Orton had to stop himself from colliding with the referee, and in the confusion Edge hit a low blow and rolled up Orton from behind, using the tights for added leverage to pick up the cheap win to an otherwise highly competitive match.
*King Booker w/Queen Sharmell d. Mark Henry by Disqualification A series of miscues between King Booker and his former Knight of the Round Mark Henry had led to the Worlds Strongest Man's dismissal from the King's Court, and had also left Henry vowing revenge against Booker after the King had "humiliated him" over and over again. Booker did everything he could to try and avoid the angered monster, running from him at every turn and frustrating Henry. When Henry finally got his hands on Booker, he began laying in to him with reckless abandon, as the referee tried to restore order. In the end Henry shoved the official away and disqualified him, before Booker and Sharmell scurried away, content with the DQ victory as the World's Strongest Man delivered the World's Strongest Slam to the hapless official.
*Ashley Massaro, Candace Michelle & Mickie James d. Melina, Jillian Hall & Michelle McCool by Pinfall The Diva's Champion Ashley Massaro had teamed with Candace Michelle against Melina and Jillian Hall since defeating Hall to regain her championship a month or so earlier. Former Divas Champion Mickie James was courted by both camps to join their side, eventually allying herself with Massaro, while Melina and Hall recruited Michelle McCool to their team for this 6 Divas tag match. The addition of James proved critical, as she won the day for her team, hitting Hall with a Mick Kick followed by a big slam to pick up the victory.
*John Cena d. Shawn Michaels by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Shawn Michaels had won the Royal Rumble back in January in his hometown of San Antonio Texas, and almost immediately made clear that he wished to recapture the "boyhood dream" he had fulfilled 11 years earlier by challenging John Cena for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania. The two were forced to coexist for a time by Raw General Manager Shane McMahon, actually winning the World Tag Team titles for a bit before the team instantly dissolved when Michaels turned on Cena. The Wrestlemania match was a back and forth affair, with the Showstopper putting up the biggest fight of Cena's career as The Champ. Cena managed to lock in the STF, but Michaels was able to fight his way to the ropes, and when Cena went to reapply the hold, Michaels tripped him up, before hitting a Sweet Chin Music out of nowhere. The delay allowed Cena to kick out of the subsequent pinfall attempt at two and a half. Michaels set up for one final kick, but Cena was able to duck it, hitting the FU on Michaels and picking up the pinfall victory to retain the title.
*Bobby Lashley w/Donald Trump d. The Big Show w/Vince McMahon by Pinfall in the Battle of the Billionaires Hair vs. Hair Match In the months leading into Wrestlemania, media personalities Vince McMahon and Donald Trump had engaged in a war of words with each other. This culminated in a series of negotiations on screen, with each agreeing to a match in which their own hair would be on the line, with the loser getting shaved bald if their representative for the so-called "Battle of the Billionaires" lost the match. For his representative, McMahon chose The Big Show, while Trump chose then US Champion Bobby Lashley (with Big Show costing Lashley this title shortly after the announcement was made). In the build, McMahon did everything he could to wear down Bobby, but Lashley was able to persevere, even earning the right to name the Special Guest Referee in the match (which Trump chose as noted McMahon enemy, Stone Cold Steve Austin.) The match itself saw Big Show use his size and strength to try and dominate, but Lashley was able to match strength with the Giant. Shenanigans took place as Shane McMahon took out Austin with a steel chair and tried to make himself referee, only to eventually eat a Stunner from Austin. In the melee, Trump himself got involved, tackling Vince to the ground and delivering several right hands to him. In the ring, Big Show attempted to floor Austin with his Right Hand of Doom, only to eat a Stunner that staggered him. Lashley then slammed The Giant in the center of the ring before following up with a Spear to finish him off and get the win. After the match, Austin, Lashley and Trump did the honors of shaving Mr. McMahon bald.
*The Undertaker d. Batista by Pinfall to Win the World Heavyweight Championship After defeating King Booker at No Way Out, The Undertaker had earned a World Heavyweight Title match at Wrestlemania. Thus the main event was set as Title vs. Streak, as The Animal Batista provided possibly the biggest obstacle in the history of the Undertaker's vaunted Wrestlemania undefeated streak. Both Alpha Males battled to a stalemate in the early going, with both men evenly matched. A dive to the outside by The Undertaker was well scouted by the Champion, as he caught the Phenom and rammed him spine first into the ring post, gaining the upper hand briefly. However a Batista Bomb from The Animal couldn't put away The Undertaker. The Phenom fought back and hit a big Last Ride out of the corner on Batista, but this also garnered a two count. After several minutes of back and forth action, Batista tried a 2nd Batista Bomb, only for Undertaker to counter with a backdrop. Undertaker then hooked up Batista for a Tombstone, hitting the move and pinning the champion to extend his streak, and win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his storied career to close the show.

*Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] d. Garrison Cade & Trevor Murdoch by Pinfall After both teams failed to capture the World Tag Team Titles at Wrestlemania, both the teams of Cryme Tyme and Cade and Murdoch tried to become the new #1 contenders to the belts in the opening tag match, with the winners receiving a shot at the World's Greatest Tag Team later in the night. The former ECW standouts took advantage of miscommunication from the former champions, with Shad Gaspard hitting a Drive By Lariat on Cade to pick up the win after a decent match. After the match though, the challengers were attacked immediately by Haas and Benjamin, launching directly into the title match right after this one.
*Cryme Tyme [JTG & Shad Gaspard] d. The World's Greatest Tag Team [Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas] by Disqualification [Haas & Benjamin Retain the World Tag Team Titles] Haas and Benjamin jumped Cryme Tyme right at the opening, not giving the challengers a break after they had a long opening match against Garrison and Cade. The champions tried to take advantage and end the match early, but were unable to put the larger Gaspard away. Shad eventually made the hot tag to JTG, who was able to clean house of the champions. Just as Cryme Tyme started building up momentum though, Benjamin kicked Gaspard below the belt in full view of the referee, getting the World's Greatest Tag Team intentionally disqualified to ensure they kept their titles. After the match, Gaspard and JTG survived another beatdown attempt, chasing off Haas and Benjamin to the back.
*Matt Hardy d. Elijah Burke by Pinfall In a standard match, Matt Hardy defeated Elijah Burke via pinfall with a Twist of Fate. After the match it was revealed that as part of the trade to move Bobby Lashley onto Raw, Raw GM Shane McMahon had sent Matt Hardy and another unnamed superstar (along with Kane and The Highlanders) to Smackdown in exchange for Lashley and Finlay.
*Mickie James d. Ashley Massaro & Melina by Pinfall to Win the WWE Divas Title After Ashley Massaro's team had won the six Diva's Tag Match at Wrestlemania, her teammate Mickie James turned her attention to regaining the Divas Title, challenging Massaro to a title match at Backlash. However, Melina forced her way into the match by defeating the champion in a non-title match on Raw, due to inadvertent interference from James, making the title match a triple threat. Ashley seemingly had the match won, as she hit James with Starstruck, but Melina was able to break up the pinfall. She tossed the champion out of the ring and went to hit James with a move of her own, but was caught by surprise with a Mick Kick, giving the victory and title to Mickie James.
*Jeff Hardy d. Carlito by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title After defeating Ric Flair at Wrestlemania, Carlito had challenged Jeff Hardy for the Intercontinental Title, this despite the Nature Boy still clamoring for revenge against the Caribbean superstar. Raw GM Shane McMahon had forbidden Flair from being in the building during Carlito's match with Hardy, who was nursing a knee injury courtesy of an attack by Carlito on the IC Champion. Carlito attempted to take full advantage of the situation, taking out Hardy's knee and even locking him in a Figure-4 in a mockery of Flair. As the referee was taken out by an errant Whisper in the Wind from the injured Hardy, Carlito attempted to cheat, grabbing a camera from a nearby camera man on the ring apron. However the cameraman then revealed his identity as Ric Flair in disguise, delivering a low blow to Carlito and then walloping him with the television camera. Hardy took advantage and hit a Swanton Bomb on the challenger, pinning him after the referee came too.
*Kane d. Finlay by Pinfall in a Belfast Brawl A feud had broken out between Finlay and Kane, largely centered around the Irishman's actions in the Money in the Bank ladder match which had seemingly cost the Big Red Machine the briefcase. An interpromotional match between the two was set for Backlash, with both men set to change brands after the show. The match was also made into a No Disqualification Belfast Brawl at Finlay's request, giving the Irishman a greater chance against the Demon Incarnate. Finlay used every tactic he could to fight off the aggressive Kane, who was seemingly out for blood, but the end came when Kane caught Finlay with a Chokeslam, sending him hurtling through the Spanish Announce Table, before tossing him back in the ring and hitting him with a Tombstone to finish him off.
*Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon & Umaga d. Bobby Lashley in a Gauntlet Match Following the humiliation Mr. McMahon had suffered in the Battle of the Billionaires, he made sure that Raw GM Shane McMahon traded for Lashley to bring him to Raw, where both Shane and Vince could deal with him directly. After firing the Big Show for the role he had played in failing to stop the Dominant One, the McMahon's announced they would have a new partner for a Gauntlet match against Lashley. Bobby easily dealt with Shane McMahon first, only to be attacked by Vince with a steel chair afterwards. Vince then called out their trump card in the form of former ECW champion Umaga, who made his way to the main roster and laid waste to Lashley, before getting himself intentionally counted out to allow Mr. McMahon the pleasure of pinning Lashley himself for a measure of revenge.
*Shawn Michaels d. John Cena, Edge & Randy Orton in a Fatal Fourway to Win the WWE Championship The night after Wrestlemania, Shawn Michaels challenged John Cena to a Wrestlemania rematch, only for this challenge to be interrupted by the Rated R Superstar Edge, who claimed he should be the #1 contender for the title following his victory over Randy Orton. A #1 contenders match was set between Michaels and Edge, which ended in a No Contest when Orton came out and attacked everyone, leading to this Fatal Fourway at Backlash. All four men had moments within the match in which they could have won, with Cena seemingly having won the match by tapping out Orton with the STF, only for their to be no referee available. The end finally came when Edge hit a Spear on Cena out of nowhere, only to be hit in the side of the head with Sweet Chin Music shortly thereafter, allowing Michaels to pin Edge and regain the WWE Title for the first time in nearly a decade. Michaels celebrated to close the show.

WWE Judgment Day May 20, 2007 Scotttrade Center St. Louis, MO SMACKDOWN Exclusive Event
*The Highlanders [Robbie & Rory MacAllister] d. William Regal & Dave Taylor by Pinfall The Scottish born brothers of The Highlanders had been transferred over to Smackdown in the mega trade that also saw both Kane and Edge (after the Rated-R Superstar lost a match to Randy Orton to determine who the final participant in the trade) go to Smackdown in exchange for Bobby Lashley and Finlay. The team become natural rivals to the former King's Court of William Regal and Dave Taylor, leading to this tag match to open Judgment Day. The technically minded Regal and Taylor were unable to match the brawling style of the MacAllisters, who eventually hit Taylor with the Caber Toss (where Rory would launch Robbie off the top rope with a shoulder tackle to the waiting opponent) to pick up the win.
*Chavo Guerrero w/Vickie Guerrero d. Daivari by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Cruiserweight Title Vickie Guerrero had recently made her debut as the manager of her brother-in-law Chavo Guerrero, which had helped Chavo regain the Cruiserweight Title on an episode of Smackdown against Daivari. The rematch ended similarly, as Vickie distracted the referee when Daivari seemingly had the match won with a Northern Lights Suplex. Daivari answered the distraction and went after Vickie, which allowed Chavo to grab the Cruiserweight Title belt and hit Daivari with it behind the referee's back. Chavo then pinned the challenger to retain his championship.
*Kane d. King Booker w/Queen Sharmell by Pinfall With the Big Red Machine having been traded to Smackdown, the main event scene on the Blue Brand was sure to change complextion. Trying to remain relevant, King Booker immediately challenged the Demon Incarnate, intent on "protecting his spot" as it were. Kane however came in looking for a dominant victory, and he didn't disappoint. Despite Queen Sharmell using the King's Scepter to try and knock out Kane (which Kane shrugged off, instead breaking the scepter over his knee), Kane eventually hit a chokeslam on King Booker and picked up the convincing victory.
*Montel Vontavious Porter d. Mark Henry by Countout to Retain the United States Championship After finally winning a match against King Booker on Smackdown, the World's Strongest Man turned his attention to winning back the United States Championship, challenging MVP for the gold. The braggadocious champion did everything in his power to avoid a confrontation with Henry, going so far as to feigning a leg injury on the show in an effort to get out of facing the World's Strongest Man. After Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long made clear that MVP would forefit the title if he couldn't compete, MVP attacked Henry with his crutch in an effort to gain an advantage. The World's Strongest Man however shrugged off the attack and seemingly had the match well in hand. However Henry suffered a knee injury of his own after falling off the ring apron. This caused MVP to win the match via countout as referee's came out and attended to Henry and helped him to the back.
*Mr. Kennedy d. The Undertaker by Disqualification to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship Shortly after Backlash, Mr. Kennedy cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase on an injured Undertaker, who had been taken out by the Rated R superstar just mere minutes before with a Con-Chair-To. Kennedy's victory would appear to be short lived however, as the following week The Undertaker made it clear he was gunning for the Loud Mouth and trying to win his title back. Kennedy played a game of keep away with the Deadman, only attacking when he thought he had a clear advantage. However Kennedy's antics weren't enough to overcome The Undertaker's offense, and it appeared that the Phenom was closing in on regaining the World Title. However Edge came to ringside, in defiance of an order by Smackdown GM Theodore Long to keep The Undertaker and the Rated R Superstar separate from one another. Edge didn't attack the Undertaker, but instead attacked Kennedy, resulting in the Loudmouth winning the match via disqualification. Afterwords, Undertaker had to be restrained by security guards as he went after Edge, eventually being handcuffed and hauled away to the back.
*Matt Hardy d. Gregory Helms by Pinfall Another superstar included in the Lashley trade was Matt Hardy, who was greeted by an old friend/enemy on his first night back on Smackdown in Gregory Helms. Both men were gunning for a spot in the pecking order, particularly in contention for the US Title. Helms attempted to form an alliance to that end, but when Hardy turned him down, Helms attacked him, leading to this match at Judgment Day. The two had a highly competitive, cruiserweight style match with neither man able to gain an advantage early on. Eventually Helms went for the Shining Wizard, only for Hardy to duck the move. Hardy then hit a Twist of Fate out of nowhere to pick up the big win.
*Edge d. Batista by Pinfall On an episode of Smackdown after Backlash, it was revealed that Edge would be the final superstar to join the blue brand after losing a match to Randy Orton on Raw. The Rated R superstar wasted no time in making his presence felt, attacking The Animal Batista and The Undertaker on an episode of Smackdown when the two were preparing for a Wrestlemania rematch for the World Heavyweight Title. Edge's appearance not only facilitated what cost Undertaker the Championship (when Mr. Kennedy cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase on him), but also saw the Rated R superstar cost Batista his opportunity to regain the title as well, leading to The Animal challenging Edge to this one on one No Disqualification match at Judgment Day. Batista and Edge were surprisingly evenly matched, with Edge able to outsmart Batista and outwrestle him at times. Quickly though The Animal caught up to Edge and overpowered him, setting him up for a Batista Bomb. Edge was able to counter the move though and take control for a brief time, setting up Batista for a Spear, when sirens could be heard in the arena. A cop car came zooming down from the back, as The Undertaker made his way back from the police station, stalking Edge. Undertaker immediately went after Edge, but the Rated R Superstar pulled a firework from underneath the ring and shot it in Undertaker's face, blinding him. Through this, Undertaker grabbed Batista while blinded and hit him with a Chokeslam, before Edge hit the Phenom with a Spear, pinning The Animal afterwards and scurrying off having outsmarted the opposition again.
