WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs December 18, 2011 1st Mariner Arena Baltimore, MD
*Zack Ryder d. Dolph Ziggler by Pinfall in a Brass Kunckles on a Pole Match to Win the United States Title After Zack Ryder failed to win the United States title at Survivor Series, newly reinstalled WWE General Manager John Laurinitis attempted to "wish Ryder well in his future endeavors" and fire him from the company as a "cost-cutting measure." The fans revolted at this idea, however, leading to Triple H rehiring him later that same week on Smackdown. In addition, the COO gave Ryder a second chance at the US Title at TLC, with the additional stipulation of placing Brass Knuckles on a Pole in the corner of the ring, with the ability to use them if you could retrieve them from the pole. Ryder was able to obtain the brass knuckles from the pole and looked ready to use them, but a superkick from Dolph Ziggler caused him to drop the weapon. Ziggler then clocked Ryder with a straight right hand with the knucks, only for Ryder to get his foot on the bottom rope to break the pinfall. Ziggler attempted to hit Ryder with a Zig Zag, but Ryder dodged out of the way of the move. Zack then hit the Ruff Ryder out of nowhere to get the three count and when the US Title to the delight of the fans.
*The Colons [Primo & Epico] d. The Awesome Truth [The Miz & R-Truth] in a Tournament Final to Win the Vacant WWE World Tag Team Titles After winning the WWE World Tag Team Titles at Survivor Series, John Cena and the Rock immediately disbanded as a team, with Cena hitting The Great One with an Attitude Adjustment. The following night on Raw Triple H vacated the tag titles, setting up a tournament that had its conclusion at TLC. The Awesome Truth made it to the finals, looking to regain their championships, and faced Primo and Epico, The Colons, in the tournament final. While Miz and R-Truth had control of the match for the most part, a mistimed clothesline from The Miz led to a bit of an argument between the tag partners. This allowed Primo and Epico to make a comeback and each hit a Backstabber on the opposing team members, leading to a pinfall victory and gaining the titles.
*Randy Orton d. Wade Barrett in a Tables Match In the Team Johnny vs Team Triple H Survivor Series match, Randy Orton and Wade Barrett had crossed paths en route to John Laurinitis' team winning the match. This led to a mini feud between the Viper and the Bullhammer, culminating in a Tables Match. Barrett used his size and strength to ground the viper, overpowering him at times, and eventually setting up for the Bullhammer and then looking to put him through a table. Orton made a comeback though and, eventually, hit an RKO to Barrett through a table on the outside, picking up the victory.
*Big Show d. Mark Henry in a Chairs Match to Win the World Heavyweight Championship After their World Title match ended in a double countout, a rematch between The Big Show and Mark Henry was signed for TLC. This time the match was made a Chairs match, making the use of chairs legal. In the build, Henry used a chair on the Right Hand of Doom of The Big Show, nullifying the big man's Knockout Punch and seemingly taking away his strongest weapon. However this didn't stop Big Show from pulling out the victory, as after a grueling match he chokeslammed Henry through the ring, before pinning him and winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. However, the exhausted Big Show wouldn't have time to celebrate.
*Daniel Bryan d. The Big Show via Money in the Bank Cash In to Win the World Heavyweight Championship In contrast to his original promise of cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at Wrestlemania, Daniel Bryan ran down and made the decision to cash-in on the new World Champion right then and there. With Big Show virtually motionless following his match with the World's Strongest Man, the Giant was easy pickings for Daniel Bryan, who cashed in and captured his first World Heavyweight Title.
*Sheamus d. Rey Mysterio, Alberto del Rio & Christian in a TLC Match for the King of the Ring Crown The King of the Ring tournament was reinstated for 2011, with a twist for the finals. Instead of their being semi-finals and finals for the crown at the TLC event, a TLC match was held between the 4 semifinalists instead, leaving Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, Alberto del Rio and Christian each contending for the crown. After Mysterio took out his old rival del Rio, Christian made a play for the crown that hung from the center of the ring. However he took a Celtic Cross powerbomb from the top of a ladder, which cleared the way for Sheamus to climb the ladder and win the King of the Ring title.
*Cody Rhodes d. Santino Marella by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title Cody Rhodes was initially set to defend his Intercontinental Title against John Morrison in a Ladder match. However a kayfabe injury to Morrison (which was actually him leaving the WWE) put an end to that match, and WWE General Manager John Laurinitis allowed Rhodes to pick his own opponent for TLC in a normal match. Rhodes chose perennial enhancement talent Santino Marella, but the choice nearly backfired on the long running champion, as Marella came closer than anyone thought possible to actually winning the title. Santino even hit the Cobra and got a near fall on Rhodes, much to Cody's chagrin. Eventually though Cody came through and caught Santino with the Cross Rhodes to retain the title in a surprisingly hard fought match.
*CM Punk d. Kevin Nash by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship After CM Punk regained the WWE Championship at Survivor Series, WWE General Manager John Laurinitis held a Beat the Clock challenge to crown a new number 1 contender for the title. The challenge was won by Kevin Nash, due in large part to Nash's "handpicked" opponent being the "One Man Rock Band" and perpetual enhancement talent Heath Slater. Nash and Punk engaged in a war of words going into the title match, similar to their confrontations in the weeks leading up to Hell in a Cell. In the match itself, Punk tried to target Nash's knees to cut the big man down to size. Halfway during the match, though, John Laurinitis made his way to ringside in an effort to distract Punk. Nash took advantage of the distraction to hit a Jackknife Powerbomb on the champion and get a near fall on him. Frustrated, Nash went to the outside and grabbed a sledge hammer, while Laurinitis announced that the match was now a No Disqualification Match. This brought out Triple H, who pulled the sledge hammer out of Nash's hands and argued with him. Nash pie faced the COO, but when he turned around Punk used the sledge hammer to drill Nash in the gut. Punk then hit a Pedigree from the 2nd rope on the big man before following up with an elbow drop from the top to pick up the win and retain his title.

WWE Royal Rumble January 29, 2012 Scottrade Center St. Louis, MO
*Beth Phoenix d. Natalya by Pinfall to Retain the Divas Title The Glamazon and Natalya renewed their lengthy battle for the Divas Title in this standard match, featuring a lot of back and forth action between two of the more technically accomplished Divas in the company. Vickie Guerrero attempted to insert herself into the match, which seemingly nearly cost Phoenix, but Natalya chased Guerrero away. Eventually the distraction though cost the second generation star, as Phoenix hit the Glam Slam for the win. After the match, Phoenix and Guerrero stared at each other, before Beth turned on Natalya, hitting her with another Glam Slam while Vickie looked on approvingly, having apparently buried her issues with the Divas Champion and formed an unholy alliance.
*Brodus Clay w/Naomi & Cameron d. Ted DiBiase Jr. by Pinfall For several weeks WWE General Manager John Laurinitis had been advertising the impending return of Brodus Clay, the imposing enforcer formerly of the Nexus who hadn't been seen since shortly after Wrestlemania 27. His debut was pushed back several times until Laurinitis announced it would be at the Royal Rumble event. To the surprise of many, Clay debuted as the "Funkasaurus", and had the gimmick of a dancing fool. Clay still steamrolled over Ted DiBiase Jr, but the gimmick change was jarring to say the least.
*The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso] & Rikishi d. Intelligencia [Roman Reigns, Damien Sandow & Brad Maddox] by Pinfall A conflict had emerged amongst the Samoan Ana'oi family, as the Usos (sons of Rikishi) had engaged in a war of words with Roman Reigns of NXT, who was the head of the faction/corporation, Intelligencia. An attempted tribal mediation on NXT had led to a blow up and all out brawl, leading to this six man tag match. Intelligencia worked over the veteran Rikishi for much of the match, isolating him from his sons, but the big man eventually got a hot tag to Jimmy, as the Usos cleaned house. At one point Maddox found himself on the butt end of the joke, literally, taking a Stinkface from the future hall of famer. Despite Reigns getting a near fall on Jey with a Spear, the Usos won the day with a double Uso splash on Maddox, and then proceeded to dance with their father in the center of the ring.
*Daniel Bryan d. Mark Henry in a Steel Cage Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The previous month at TLC, Daniel Bryan had cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to become World Heavyweight Champion on The Big Show after The Giant had defeated Mark Henry for the same title. The World's Strongest Man won a #1 contenders rematch on Smackdown, leading to him challenging Bryan to a title contest inside a steel cage. Henry tried to end the match early, using his profound strength advantage to shut down any offense Bryan might muster. However the technically minded champion was able to work over Mark Henry's knee and take him down to the canvas, wearing him down with technical holds, but unable to put him away. In the end, Henry made a comeback and easily tossed Bryan around the ring. He did so too strongly, seemingly, as he tossed Bryan so hard into the cage wall that it swung open, giving Bryan a quick way to escape and retain his title.
*Zack Ryder d. David Otunga by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title After Zack Ryder won the United States title, he was quickly opposed by WWE General Manager John Laurinitis. To try and take the title off the Long Island Iced Z, Laurinitis ordered him to defend the belt against Johnny Ace's own personal legal counsel, David Otunga. However, Ryder was easily able to best the lawyer, hitting the Ruff Ryder to pick up the win and retain his title after a short match.
*The Big Show Won the Royal Rumble Match The Royal Rumble match was wide open this year, with several former winners competing as well as several would be contenders. The match started with the defending champion Randy Orton coming in at number 2, but wouldn't survive long, being eliminated in a shocker by NXT Champion Richie Steamboat. The Undertaker also returned, entering the Rumble match at number 18, before being uncermoniously dumped again by King Sheamus, who continued his run of dominance over the Deadman. Sheamus would last until the end, facing off against numerous time runner up, The Big Show. Sheamus lined up for a Brogue Kick on the Giant, but Big Show sidestepped it before hitting the Right Hand of Doom on the Irishman, sending him staggering into the ropes. Big Show then clotheslined Sheamus out of the ring to finally win his first Rumble match and punch his ticket to Wrestlemania.

*CM Punk d. Alberto del Rio by Pinfall in a No Disqualification Match to Retain the WWE Championship Shortly after TLC, CM Punk was challenged to a rematch for the WWE Title by former champion Alberto del Rio, with WWE GM John Laurinitis backing his challenge. The two met on an episode of Raw which ended in controversy with Punk "submitting" to del Rio's cross armbreaker courtesy of another Montreal-inspired screwjob, as Laurinitis called for the bell to desperately get the title off Punk. The decision was overturned by Triple H, who offered a compromise for the Rumble: a No Disqualification rematch with himself as Special Referee to ensure no Laurinitis inspired shenanigans. For his part, Punk didn't trust Triple H not to double cross him, but the Game was as good as his word and called the match down the middle. del Rio worked over Punk's injured arm in an attempt to soften him up for the Cross Armbreaker, while also exploiting the No DQ stipulations. Punk fought back however, countering an attempted spot where the Mexican Aristocrat tried to snap his arm in a Pillman-style attack with a steel chair and hitting a piledriver onto the same steel chair. Punk eventually caught del Rio coming off the top rope, hoisting him to his shoulders and nailing the GTS on the former champion to pick up the win and retain the WWE Title to close out the show.

WWE Elimination Chamber February 19, 2012 Bradley Center Milwaukee, WI
*Dolph Ziggler d. Kofi Kingston by Pinfall to Qualify for the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Following Dolph Ziggler's failure to both regain the United States Title from Zack Ryder and to win the Royal Rumble as one of John Laurinitis' handpicked contenders, the Show-Off suddenly found himself on the wrong end of the General Manager's wrath, so much so that he had to qualify for the WWE Elimination Chamber match against Kofi Kingston. The two old rivals were well versed with each other, and Kingston nearly won the match by catching Ziggler off the rebound with a Trouble in Paradise. Dolph was able to counter though and kick out, catching Kingston with a Fameasser and then following up with a Zig Zag for the win and placing himself in the running for the Elimination Chamber later that night.
*Daniel Bryan d. Wade Barrett, R-Truth, King Sheamus, Jack Swagger & Mark Henry in an Elimination Chamber Match to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The first Elimination Chamber match was for the World Heavyweight Title, and saw Daniel Bryan "inconveniently" be placed in the number one position by WWE General Manager John Laurinitis (who was stopped from doing the same thing to CM Punk in the subsequent WWE Championship Chamber match later in the night.) Bryan began against Jack Swagger, and to the surprise of many was able to survive to the very end through technical wizardry and some underhanded tactics. In the end it came down to Bryan and King Sheamus, with the King of the Ring looking to put an end to Bryan's run. As he set up for a Brogue Kick, the lights went dark, and a gong sounded through the arena. When the lights came back up, The Undertaker had appeared in the center of the ring. Sheamus charged at the Phenom, but the Undertaker caught him with a chokeslam, before vanishing just as quickly as he had appeared. Bryan followed up with a diving headbutt from the top rope to finish off the Irishman and pick up the win, retaining his title. - Daniel Bryan and Jack Swagger Entered at Numbers 1 and 2 Respectively - Wade Barrett Entered at Number 3 - R-Truth Enterted at Number 4 - Daniel Bryan d. Jack Swagger by Submission with the LeBell Lock - Mark Henry Entered at Number 5 - Wade Barrett d. R-Truth by Pinfall with the Bullhammer Elbow - King Sheamus Entered at Number 6 - Daniel Bryan d. Wade Barrett by Pinfall with a Baikatsu Knee - King Sheamus d. Mark Henry by Pinfall with the Brogue Kick - Daniel Bryan d. King Sheamus by Pinfall with a Diving Headbutt Winner: Daniel Bryan
*Zack Ryder d. Christian by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title The latest challenger to the "Broski's" US Title reign was former World Heavyweight Champion Christian, who clearly underestimated Ryder after defeating him in two non-title matches in the weeks leading up to Elimination Chamber. This arrogance would cost Christian, though, as Ryder was able to proverbially sneak under the radar and catch Christian with a roll up, picking up the unexpectedly quick victory.
*The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso] d. The Colons [Primo & Epico] by Disqualification [The Colons Retain the World Tag Team Titles] Two second generation tag teams competed for the WWE World Tag Team Titles in The Usos and the Colons, in a match that was as much about respect as it was for the belts. Both teams appeared to be evenly matched, and neither could gain a long term advantage over the other, but unfortunately the match would be thrown out after the duo of Hunico and Camacho interfered, attacking both teams and resulting in a Disqualification win for the Usos (while the Colons kept the titles).
*AJ Lee w/Kaitlyn d. Beth Phoenix w/Vickie Guerrero by Disqualification [Phoenix Retains the WWE Divas TItle] Beth Phoenix's alliance with Vickie Guerrero had shaken the Divas division, especially with the addition of NXT call ups AJ Lee and Kaitlyn. The two friendly rivals had formed a team together upon reaching the main roster, but it would only be Lee who would challenge the Glamazon. The rookie performed surprisingly well against Phoenix, and seemingly came close to winning the match, only for Guerrero's other hand picked protege, Tamina Snuka, to return and attack both Lee and Kaitlyn, resulting in the DQ. Both women were left lying on the ground after the match as Vickie and her girls celebrated.
*Kane d. John Cena by Pinfall The night after the Royal Rumble, John Cena renewed his call to face The Rock at Wrestlemania (a challenge which still hadn't been officially answered, despite the interactions between the two over the course of the previous year), but also said that if he couldn't get the Rock, he'd find someone else to fight. Cena's promo was interrupted and attacked by the returning Kane, who was seeking to renew a path of destruction through the WWE. The two met in a standard match which saw Cena surprisingly unable to handle Kane for the bulk of its runtime. Cena made a comeback after kicking out of a Chokeslam from Kane, but inadvertantly knocked out the referee with a shoulder tackle. Before Cena could finish off the Big Red Machine, The Rock came out of the crowd and attacked Cena, hitting him with the Rock Bottom. Kane then followed up with a Tombstone to pick up the win as the Rock pointed to the Wrestlemania sign, signifying that he accepted Cena's challenge.
*CM Punk d. The Miz, Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler, Alberto del Rio & Randy Orton by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Randy Orton and The Miz would begin the Elimination Chamber match, though they would quickly be joined by CM Punk who entered at the number 3 spot. The Chamber match was turned on its ear as Chris Jericho seemingly suffered a concussion after being speared through one of the Plexiglass pods, and was ruled unable to continue by the attending referees, being taken out before the match could conclude. In the end, the match came down to Orton and Punk, with Punk barely able to survive by hitting a GTS on Orton. It was at that moment that Jericho tried to reenter the match, only to be left arguing with Triple H at ringside (who was there to ensure John Laurinitis from interfering in the match with his usual shenanigans.) The distraction from the Game led to Punk scoring a rollup on Jericho and picking up the win to retain his title. - The Miz and Randy Orton entered at numbers 1 and 2 Respectively. - CM Punk entered at number 3 - Dolph Ziggler entered at number 4 - Chris Jericho entered at number 5 - Alberto del Rio entered at number 6 - Alberto del Rio d. Dolph Ziggler by Submission with the Cross Armbreaker - Randy Orton d. Alberto del Rio by Pinfall with an RKO - CM Punk d. The Miz by Submission with the Anaconda Vise - CM Punk d. Randy Orton by Pinfall with the Go to Sleep - CM Punk d. Chris Jericho by Pinfall with a Rollup Winner: CM Punk

Wrestlemania XXVIII April 1, 2012 Sun Like Stadium Miami, FL
*Zack Ryder w/"Daddy Ryder" d. Kane by Pinfall to Retain the United States Title The night after Elimination Chamber, Zack Ryder was defending his US Title against R-Truth, only for the match to be interrupted by the Big Red Machine Kane, who was once again on the warpath. After Kane destroyed both Ryder and Truth, he was insulted by a fan at ringside. Kane took this fan and chokeslamed him on the entryway, to the shock of many. The fan actually turned out to be Zack Ryder's father, leading to Ryder returning the favor by costing Kane a match against John Cena the following Friday on Smackdown. WWE General Manager John Laurinitis then set up this title match to open Wrestlemania. Ryder was easily overpowered by Kane in the early going of the match, and was also distracted when Kane went after Ryder's father again (who had accompanied his son to ringside). Ryder rallied his reserves though and took out Kane's knee, attempting to make a comeback. Kane looked to finish off Ryder with a Tombstone, but Zack Ryder's father climbed on the apron distracting him. With the ref distracted, Zack came from behind and hit a low blow on Kane before delivering two Ruff Ryder's in succession to pick up the unlikely win and retain his title.
*Dolph Ziggler d. Alberto del Rio w/Ricardo Rodriguez by Pinfall Dolph Ziggler's fall from grace with WWE Management had evolved into a feud with former WWE Champion Alberto del Rio, who had eliminated the Show Off from the Elimination Chamber the previous month. A match between the two on Raw ended in a double countout, leading to Triple H booking a rematch for Wrestlemania. Del Rio's personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, attempted to help his employer as the referee went down, but inadvertantly hit del Rio with the Timekeeper's bell instead of Ziggler. Ziggler then woke up the referee and pinned the Mexican Aritocrat to pick up the win.
*The Colons [Primo & Epico] d. The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso], The Aerial Aces [Evan Bourne & Justin Gabriel], The British Invasion [Wade Barrett & Drew McIntyre], Hunico & Camacho and The New Age Outlaws [Road Dogg & Bad Ass Billy Gunn] in a Five Team Elimination Match to Win the WWE World Tag Team Titles This match would see two teams start in the ring with the other four teams surrounding the ring outside, able to fight each other but only able to get in the ring when one of the teams in the ring was eliminated. The mystery team turned out to be newly minted Hall of Famers The New Age Outlaws, who would enter the match last. In the end the match would come down to the Colons (who started the match along with Hunico & Camacho) and the Outlaws. The former multiple time tag team champions looked like they hadn't lost a step, with Billy Gunn even getting a near fall after hitting a Fameasser on Primo. But the Colons scored a victory with twin Backstabbers on the Hall of Famers, picking up the win and regaining the titles. After the match, the Outlaws shook the hands of the new champions, giving them an endorsement.
*Randy Orton d. Richie Steamboat w/Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat by Pinfall In the Royal Rumble match, Randy Orton had been eliminated by the young upstart, then current NXT champion Richie Steamboat, in a huge upset. Orton didn't take this "disrespect" lying down, as he showed up on NXT the following week and cost Steamboat the NXT Championship against Roman Reigns. The feud continued when Orton interrupted Steamboat's official introduction to the main roster, attacking both him and his father Hall of Famer Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, only for Steamboat to defeat Orton in a match via rollup on Smackdown, leading to this Wrestlemania encounter. Despite being heavily outgunned, the younger Steamboat proved to be game competition for the Viper, including scoring a near fall with a cross body from the top rope that mimicked the one The Dragon used against the Macho Man 15 years earlier. In the end, a slight mistake from Steamboat gave the opening for Orton to hit an RKO and pick up the win, though after the match Orton shook the hand of Steamboat and joined the Wrestlemania crowd in giving him a standing ovation.
*Cody Rhodes d. Brodus Clay by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title Cody Rhodes was closing in on one calendar year as Intercontinental Champion, yet standing in his way was the undefeated (since his return, anyway) Funkasaurus Brodus Clay, who had gained a victory over the champion in a six man tag in the weeks leading up to Wrestlemania, and won a #1 contenders battle royal on Raw. Despite having the size advantage and throwing Rhodes around for a while, the formerly Dashing One was able to sneak a low blow against Clay at one point and eventually hit him with the Cross Rhodes twice to pick up the victory.
*AJ Lee, Kaitlyn & Natalya d. Beth Phoenix, Tamina Snuka & Alicia Fox w/Vickie Guerrero by Submission Vickie Guerrero' girls of Beth Phoenix and Tamina Snuka were joined by Alicia Fox, who formed a strong dominant group within the Divas division. The three faced the duo of AJ Lee and Kaitlyn, who were joined by former Divas Champion Natalya for this match. In a standard six Divas tag match, despite working well as a team, Tamina was eventually caught by AJ in the unique Black Widow submission hold and forced to tap out, giving the babyfaces the wn.
*The Big Show d. Daniel Bryan by Pinfall to Win the World Heavyweight Championship Shortly before Elimination Chamber, The Big Show had made clear his intentions to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania, per his right as the winner of the Royal Rumble match. The night after Elimination Chamber, Big Show confronted Daniel Bryan, leading to a scuffle between the two and Bryan being knocked out by Big Show's right hand of doom. Bryan (who had turned heel slowly over the course of the past few weeks) reached an understanding with WWE General Manager John Laurinitis, getting Johnny Ace to put a contractual stipulation in place that said if Big Show touched Bryan before Wrestlemania, he would lose his title shot. Bryan then taunted Big Show leading into Wrestlemania, leading to a scene where Big Show at the end of an episode of Smackdown literally broke the ring apart with his bare hands out of anger (with Bryan standing in the center of the ring). In their match, Bryan tried to chop the giant down to size, wearing him down with submission holds and trying to keep him on the ground. At one point on the outside Big Show went for his KO punch but wound up hitting the ring post, damaging his hand. Bryan tried to take advantage with one of the Giant's big weapons out of commission, but Big Show was able to counter and hit a Chokeslam instead to pick up the win and regain the World Heavyweight Championship.
*The Undertaker d. King Sheamus by Pinfall At Hell in a Cell, the world had been shocked when Sheamus cleanly beat the Undertaker in the latter's return to action for the first time since Wrestlemania 27. Sheamus followed this up with victories over the Deadman in a Survivor Series match and by eliminating him from the Royal Rumble. Undertaker got some measure of revenge by appearing inside the Elimination Chamber and costing King Sheamus the World Heavyweight Title, leading to a match for the Undertaker's vaunted Wrestlemania streak. Like their previous encounters, Sheamus took control early on, and looked like he had the match won after hitting White Noise on the Phenom. However Undertaker kicked out at two and slowly began to wear out and frustrate the Irishman, eventually dodging a second attempt at a Brogue Kick and hitting a Tombstone Piledriver to pick up the win and expand his streak to 20 and 0.
*Brock Lesnar d. The Miz by Pinfall Throughout the night, Wrestlemania special guest host The Miz had been appearing, demanding a match on the card. Just before the WWE title match, Miz made his way back out to ringside and issued an open challenge to anyone in the back, saying he wouldn't be leaving the ring until he got his Wrestlemania moment. The challenge, to the shock of everyone there, was answered by UFC champion and former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, who made his return to the company 8 years after leaving it. Lesnar wasted no time in destroying the Miz, hitting him with a single F-5 and pinning him in just a few seconds flat.
*CM Punk d. Chris Jericho by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Chris Jericho had tried to sneak his way into winning the WWE Title during the Elimination Chamber match, but had come up short. Jericho did however earn the #1 contendership after winning a Beat the Clock challenge the following night on Raw. Jericho conspired with WWE General Manager John Laurinitis, getting a stipulation put in place for the match that said if Punk was disqualified or counted out, he would lose the WWE Title. Jericho then spent the better part of several weeks attempting to get under Punk's skin, bringing up his family's past issues with substance abuse and the broken hom he had grown up in, causing Punk to lose his temper on more than one occasion. During the match, Punk had to restrain himself lest he lose the title he had worked hard to win. Jericho took advantage of these moments, gaining an edge and eventually locking Punk in the Walls of Jericho. Punk was barely able to escape to the ropes, causing Jericho to prematurely celebrate and nearly lose his cool when he complained to the referee. Punk used this distraction to mount his own comeback and, after dodging a Codebreaker from Jericho, hit a Go 2 Sleep on Y2J to pick up the win and retain his title after a hard fought match.
*The Rock d. John Cena by Pinfall The feud between the Rock and John Cena had started at the previous year's Wrestlemania, when The Rock (acting as the host of Wrestlemania 27) had cost Cena the WWE Championship. Cena then issued a challenge for the following year's event that went unanswered for several months, and the two men sniped at each other on social media. They put aside their differences at the Survivor Series, winning the WWE Tag Team Titles, only for Cena to attack The Rock, returning the receipt from Mania. Rock returned at Elimination Chamber, costing Cena a match with Kane and agreeing to the planned match between the two icons. Rock, in his hometown, was the clear fan favorite, but Cena was able to ignore the crowd's reaction and matched Rocky move for move, with both men getting near falls. In the end, Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment on The Rock and, rather than go for a pinfall, attempted to mock the Great One by hitting the People's Elbow. Rock then kipped up and caught Cena with a second Rock Bottom to pick up the victory. As The Rock celebrated, Cena looked despondent on the outside to close the show.

*The Big Show d. King Sheamus by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship Despite losing to The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, King Sheamus was named as the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship after defeating Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan in a triple threat match on Smackdown, setting up this match with newly crowned champion the Big Show. Sheamus' power moves were neutralized by going up against the seven footer, but the Irishman used what quickness he had to outrun the Giant for much of the match. However Sheamus couldn't avoid the Big Show's lethal right hand, as the Giant caught Sheamus in the air with a Right Hand of Doom before Sheamus could hit a Brogue Kick, picking up the victory and retaining the title.
*The Miz d. Zack Ryder by Disqualification [Ryder Retains the United States Title] After The Miz was humiliated by Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania, he began a feud with United States Champion Zack Ryder, calling the Long Island Iced Z an embarrasment to the company and that the US Title would be better suited on a "major star" such as himself. Like many before him he also underestimated the US Champion, expecting to easily beat him. Ryder however was more than a match for the self-professed A-Lister, to the point that Miz became overly frustrated with the Broski. After Ryder kicked out of a Skull Crushing Finale, Miz finally snapped and viciously assaulted Ryder, attacking his knee in particular. Miz grabbed a chair and smashed it across the knee of the champion before locking in a Figure-4 Leglock as the referee called for the bell. Ryder had won the match via DQ, but Miz left with a smile on his face.
*Curtis Axel d. R-Truth by Pinfall Former NXT Champion Curtis Axel had made his debut on the main roster at the Royal Rumble and had been on something of a winning streak since. In this standard match, Axel defeated R-Truth via using his father's own Perfect-Plex finisher to get the job done.
*Richie Steamboat d. Cody Rhodes by Disqualification [Rhodes Retains the Intercontinental Title] After his impressive showing against Randy Orton at Wrestlemania, 2nd generation star Richie Steamboat had seen his stock rise, as he won a mini-tournament to crown a new #1 contender to the Intercontinental Championship. For his part, the IC Champion Cody Rhodes was closing in on one calendar year as champion, the first person to do so since the afore mentioned Orton. Rhodes' coronation to a year long title reign was nearly derailed by the younger Steamboat, who got a near fall early on with a small package. Rhodes reestablished himself and took control, but Steamboat was resiliant and wouldn't give up. Eventually Rhodes grew desperate, and pulled the referee in the way of a Cross Body Block from the top rope. A second referee came down to continue the officiating, and as Cody attempted to hit the Cross Rhodes, Steamboat was able to reverse the move and execute a Northern Lights Suplex for the seeming 1-2-3. However, the original referee had come to and disqualified Cody, giving Steamboat the win via disqualification rather than pinfall, and ensuring Rhodes' title reign would continue past the one year mark.
*Randy Orton d. Daniel Bryan in a Tables Match Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan had competed against each other in a triple threat match for the #1 contendership to the World Heavyweight Championship on an episode of Smackdown, striking up a feud that quickly grew in intensity, so much so that WWE COO Triple H ordered the match be made a Tables Match. Bryan tried to work over the Viper's shoulders, given Orton's history of trouble with that joint. He seemed successful to, as eventually he wore out Orton and had him primed and set up on a table. Bryan climbed to the top rope to deliver a top rope headbutt, looking to drive Orton through the table, but Orton popped up just as Bryan leaped off, hitting an RKO out of nowhere in midair through the table to pick up the win.
*Beth Phoenix d. AJ Lee & Kaitlyn by Pinfall in a Handicap Match to Retain Following her team's loss at Wrestlemania, Divas GM Vickie Guerrero had lost patience with her stable of girls and decided to exercise some "tough love" on Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, ordering her to defend her title against both AJ Lee and Kaitlyn in a Handicap match. Despite the numbers advantage, the Glamazon was able to persevere and pin Kaitlyn following a Glam Slam. After the match, Vickie attempted to celebrate with Phoenix, only to eat a Glam Slam herself as the Divas Champion walked away from the manipulative Guerrero.
*John Cena d. Brock Lesnar by Disqualification The night after Wrestlemania XXVIII, John Cena had called out The Rock to congratulate him on his victory and to potentially challenge him to a rematch. However this call was answered instead by the returning Brock Lesnar, who proceeded to F5 Cena, continuing his run of destruction from the previous night. Through off-screen negotiations, COO Triple H announced that Lesnar would face Cena in his first official match back at Extreme Rules. The match had no special stipulations involved. Lesnar dominated the match, hitting several suplexes on Cena and generally tossing him around the ring with little difficulty. Cena tried to make a comeback, and even hit an Attitude Adjustment, but Lesnar kicked out at one. Eventually Lesnar locked Cena in a Kimura Lock, which might have forced Cena to tap out. Cena was able to get to the ropes, but Lesnar refused to break the hold, more focused on hurting Cena then winning the match. The referee counted to 5 and disqualified Lesnar, technically giving the victory to Cena. Lesnar continued to keep the hold on before eventually "breaking" Cena's arm. As Cena was attended to, Triple H came down and helped direct Lesnar to the back, yelling at him for going too far.
*CM Punk d. Chris Jericho in a Chicago Street Fight to Retain the WWE Championship Following their Wrestlemania encounter, CM Punk was still looking for a modicum of revenge against Chris Jericho after everything Y2J had said about his family. This led to Jericho challenging Punk to any type of match he wanted (much to the chagrin of WWE General Manager John Laurinitis), which gave Punk the idea to have a Chicago Street Fight, where anything goes. Both Jericho and Punk engaged in some ECW-esque actions, with each men actually busting the other open (a rare occurence at the time). In the end Jericho locked in the Walls of Jericho in the center of the ring, nearly causing Punk to tap out. The champion was able to reverse the hold though and catch Jericho in the Anaconda Vise, picking up the submission victory after some impressive chain wrestling. Punk then celebrated amongst the Chicago crowd to end the show.

*King Sheamus d. The Big Show, Randy Orton & Jack Swagger by Pinfall to Win the World Heavyweight Title Courtesy of his victory over Daniel Bryan the previous month at Extreme Rules, Randy Orton was named the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship against The Big Show. However this status was challenged both by King Sheamus and Jack Swagger, as the two men (albeit with help in the latter case) had gained victories over Show and Orton in the weeks following, leading to WWE General Manager John Laurinitis to make the match at Over the Limit a Fatal Fourway. Swagger was taken out early by The Big Show, who hit the Right Hand of Doom on the All-American and knocked him out cold. Orton then stood back mostly and watched Sheamus and Show take each other out, hoping to pick the bones. The end came after Big Show hit Orton with a Chokeslam, only to walk right into a Brogue Kick from Sheamus. The King then pinned Orton to win and become a two time World Heavyweight Champion.
*Chris Jericho d. Brodus Clay by Submission After two months of failing to capture the WWE Title from CM Punk, Chris Jericho found himself on the outs with John Laurinitis and unable to win another shot at the title. In order to get back in the good graces of the GM, Laurinitis told Jericho to take out the wayward Brodus Clay, who had refused to do Laurinitis' bidding despite Johnny being the one to bring him back to television. The Funkusaurus' bulk proved difficult to deal with at first, but Jericho was able to use his technical saavy to wrestle Clay to the mat and eventually lock him in the Walls of Jericho to pick up the win.
*Alberto del Rio d. Zack Ryder by Submission to Retain the United States Title The night after Extreme Rules saw Zack Ryder lose the United States title to Alberto del Rio, as Ryder was still hurting from his match with The Miz the previous night. Ryder did cash in his automatic rematch for Over the Limit, hoping that having healed himself he would be able to regain his title. The Mexican Aristocrat though was able to best Ryder, working over his arm and eventually locking him in the Cross Armbreaker to pick up the submission victory and retain his title.
*Dolph Ziggler d. Cody Rhodes by Pinfall to Win the Intercontinental Title After Cody Rhodes held a ceremony on Smackdown commemorating his year long reign as Intercontinental Champion, he was interrupted by Dolph Ziggler who was getting ready to have a match of his own. Rhodes took exception to this and attacked the Show Off, only to eat a Superkick for his trouble. Rhodes would then cost Ziggler a subsequent match against King Sheamus the following week on Raw, leading to this title defense. Both men were evenly matched, and it was clear that Rhodes was reverting to his usual attempts of trying to get himself disqualified to keep the Intercontinental Title. However the referee refused to play along, and gave lienency to the match, allowing Ziggler to stay in long enough to turn the tide. Rhodes tried to ram Ziggler's head into the turnbuckle, but Ziggler reversed and hit a slingshot into the corner, dazing Cody. The Show Off then hit the Zig Zag and got the pin on Cody Rhodes, ending the year plus reign of the Intercontinental Champion.
*Antonio Cesaro w/Aksana d. Kofi Kingston by Pinfall European athlete Antonio Cesaro had made his debut shortly before Extreme Rules and had been on a massive winning streak thus far in WWE. His first Pay Per View match pitted him against Kofi Kingston, and the former Intercontinental Champion was unable to gain headway against the former rugby star, as Cesaro hit the Neutralizer after a dominating performance to continue his undefeated streak.
*The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso] d. The Colons [Primo & Epico] by Pinfall to Win the WWE World Tag Team Titles The Usos returned to tag team action shortly after their loss at Wrestlemania, once again targeting the WWE World Tag Team Titles held by the Colons. Similar to the match they had at Elimination Chamber, both teams were evenly matched, but on this occasion, Hunico and Camacho had been barred from the arena by Triple H. This allowed the Usos to hit the Uso splash and pick up the win, becoming two time tag team champions.
*Layla Won the "Vickie Guerrero Invitational Battle Royal" for the WWE Divas Title The special assistant in charge of the Divas Division, Vickie Guerrero, had found herself without any allies after alienating not only Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, but the rest of her "girls" such as Tamina Snuka that she had championed over the past year or so. Guerrero attempted to save face with WWE COO Triple H by holding the "Vickie Guerrero Invitational Battle Royal" for all the Divas, with the Divas Championship being the ultimate prize for the whole division. The champion surprisingly was taken out early on, leaving the title open and up for grabs. The match came down to the Bella Twins teaming up to take out the field, only for both of them to be suddenly clotheslined out of the ring as they fought with each other by Layla of all people, giving Layla the shock win.
*Daniel Bryan w/A-Train d. CM Punk by Disqualification [Punk retains WWE Title] Per his dealings with John Laurinitis, Daniel Bryan was named the new #1 contender to the WWE Title, with Johnny Ace hoping he would finally be the one to take down the "hated" CM Punk. To help facilitate this, Laurinitis even granted Bryan a new bodyguard in the form of the returning A-Train to "watch his back" during matches. The two former ROH rivals had a highly athletic match between the, that nearly ended once Bryan had Punk in the LeBell Lock. Laurinitis looked to screw Punk out of the title as he had tried before, only for Triple H to come down and again intervene, with the Game growing tired of the GM's antics. Triple H however was confronted not only by A-Train, but surprisingly by Chris Jericho, who was also looking to get back in the good graces of the GM. The distraction at ringside caused Bryan to break the hold and go outside and grab the WWE Title belt, attempting to use it on Punk. Punk countered and hit Bryan with the belt instead, tossing it aside and then hitting the Go 2 Sleep seemingly to pick up the win, celebrating to officially end the show. Laurinitis would reverse the decision the following night on Raw due to Punk using the title, however.
