WWE No Way Out June 17, 2012 IZOD Center East Rutherford, NJ
*The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso] d. Richie Steamboat & Curtis Axel by Pinfall to Retain the WWE World Tag Team Titles Former NXT rivals Richie Steamboat and Curtis Axel had formed an unlikely pairing as a tag team, each one looking to gain further success on the main roster. After winning a tag team gauntlet match on Smackdown, the two took on the Usos for the World Tag Team Titles. To the surprise of many, it appeared that Steamboat and Axel would have a chance of defeating the brothers, but a mistimed flying forearm from Axel took out Steamboat and left the son of Mr. Perfect at the mercy of the champs, who hit dual superkicks on him before finishing him off with an Uso Splash.
*Damien Sandow d. Sin Cara by Pinfall The former member of Intelligencia, Damien Sandow had debuted on the main roster as the "Intellectual Savior of the Masses", consistently berating crowds and acting like a pompous windbag. He continued his early success with a standard victory over Sin Cara, pinning him after hitting an Armtrap Neckbreaker he called the "You're Welcome!"
*Dolph Ziggler d. Alberto del Rio by Disqualification in a Champion vs. Champion Match WWE General Manager John Laurinitis, in an attempt to save his job from "performance review" by Triple H, booked this special champion vs. champion Non-Title match between Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler and United States Champion Alberto del Rio. The crowd was clearly on the side of Ziggler, much to the annoyance of del Rio, and the crowd's antics more than once caused the Mexican Aristocrat to seemingly lose his cool and give the Show Off an advantage. Ziggler looked about ready to finish off del Rio when he was suddenly attacked from behind by Alberto's personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, resulting in the disqualification. After the match though, del Rio continued the assault on Ziggler, working over the Show Off's Arm and locking him in a Cross Arm Breaker without mercy.
*Layla d. Nikki & Brie Bella in a Triple Threat Match to Retain the WWE Divas Title Another match set by John Laurinitis, Layla defended the Divas Title against the seemingly reunited Bella Twins. However whatever harmony that existed between the Bellas fizzled out quickly in the face of this Triple Threat Match, as Nikki and Brie began fighting with each other over who would get the titles. This allowed Layla to sneak in a Small Package on Brie, rolling her up and getting the pinfall for a quick victory.
*Antonio Cesaro w/Aksana d. Randy Orton by Pinfall The red hot rookie Antonio Cesaro faced his toughest challenge in the multiple time former world champion Randy Orton. To the surprise of many, Cesaro was able to outwrestle Orton at times, but the Viper showed his in ring prowess as well, able to counter Cesaro's deceptive power at all times. Orton looked ready to hit an RKO to finish off the undefeated Swiss Superman, but was distracted on the ring apron by Cesaro's valet, Aksana. This momentary distraction gave Cesaro enough time to counter the RKO with a roll up and, while holding the tights, Cesaro was able to sneak a pinfall and score the huge upset win.
*King Sheamus d. The Big Show by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship After winning the World Heavyweight Championship from The Big Show the previous month, King Sheamus was slated to defend against the Giant as The Big Show used his guaranteed rematch clause for another shot at the belt. Outside of the Fatal Fourway environment, Big Show was more able to throw his weight around and push the Irish King to his limits. Sheamus however had the quickness on his side, and was able to dodge the Big Show's attempt at the Right Hand of Doom, before surprisingly bodyslamming the 500 pounder. Sheamus then set up and hit a Brogue Kick to knock down the Giant for the title retention.
*Triple H d. Chris Jericho by Pinfall Shortly after Over the Limit, Triple H (in his capacity as COO of WWE) gave a performance review of John Laurinitis as General Manager of WWE. Despite Laurinitis trying to book his way out of trouble (including several title matches on this show, including the main event), Triple H was prepared to fire Laurinitis, until he received a vote of confidence from Chris Jericho. This led Triple H to propose that Jericho face Triple H in a match at No Way Out, with Laurinitis' job on the line. Triple H's father in law, Chairman Mr. McMahon, also added the stipulation that Triple H's job as COO would be on the line as well, making this a high stakes match. Triple H and Jericho renewed their rivalry from years ago, and were easily well versed in each other's moves. Jericho attempted to lock Triple H in the Walls of Jericho, but Triple H reversed and set up Jericho for a Pedigree. Johnny Ace attempted to intervene, and his distraction allowed Jericho to hit a Codebreaker for a near 2 count. In the end though Triple H caught Jericho coming from the top rope and hit a Pedigree for the win. After the match, Johnny Ace came in the ring and took a swing at Triple H, only to be stopped. Mr. McMahon (who was at ringside) then came in and officially fired Laurinitis, allowing Triple H to hit him with a Pedigree for good measure.
*CM Punk d. Daniel Bryan w/A-Train in a 60-Minute Iron Man Match to Retain the WWE Championship The final match booked for No Way Out by then WWE General Manager John Laurinitis was a WWE Title rematch between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan, but this time as a 60-Minute Iron Man match to ensure that there would be a definitive winner. Bryan's personal bodyguard, A-Train, interjected himself into the match early on, attacking Punk seemingly behind the referee's back, but when the ref saw the action he ejected A-Train from ringside, leaving the match between Punk and Bryan. The two old rivals put on a clinic that saw each man get several near falls, and after 50 minutes neither man could get a pinfall or submission out of the other. As the clock wore down, Bryan finally got Punk in the LeBell Lock and got a tap out of the champion, going up 1-0 with just less than nine minutes to go. A couple of minutes later though, Punk caught Bryan with the Anaconda Vise and quickly evened the score. With less than thirty seconds left, Punk caught Bryan coming off the top rope and hit him with a GTS, scoring the pinfall with just six seconds remaining to get the decisive fall, winning 2-1 and retaining his title to close the show.

WWE Money in the Bank July 15, 2012 US Airways Center Phoenix, AZ
*Dolph Ziggler d. Kofi Kingston, Alberto del Rio, Richie Steamboat, Daniel Bryan & Kane in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship Contract The first Money in the Bank Ladder Match was for the contract that guaranteed a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. The match was a microcosm of several storylines and feuds coalescing, including a growing feud between Daniel Bryan and Kane (stemming from the two having feelings of anger and hostility towards one another), and the continuing storyline from Dolph Ziggler and Alberto del Rio from the previous month. It looked as if Del Rio would be the one to capture the briefcase, only for the Mexican Aristocrat to be taken out by a shot from Kofi Kingston, who lept from the top rope onto the ladder to stop del Rio from winning. At one point it looked like the rookie Richie Steamboat would also prevail, only to be done in by his rival/tag partner Curtis Axel, who turned on the 2nd generation star in the match. This left the door open for Ziggler to climb the ladder, beating Daniel Bryan to the top, and securing the briefcase for himself.
*Damien Sandow d. Brodus Clay by Disqualification The self-professed Intellectual Savior of the Masses, Damien Sandow, had decried the Funkasaurus as mindless entertainment without any sort of merit, and sought to shut down the would-be dancer. Sandow however underestimated Clay's natural agility, and was easily overwhelmed at the start of the match. Sandow took control after threatening the Funkadactyls (Naomi and Cameron) at ringside, but this only served to anger Clay. When the referee was down, Sandow used a pair of brass knuckles on Clay and then hid the evidence in Clay's singlet. This only got a two count though, and eventually Clay hit his cross body finisher right before the referee woke up, seemingly getting the three count. However Sandow complained to the ref of Clay using the knucks, and the referee's search turned up the hidden weapon, causing him to reverse the decision and award the match to the duplicitous Sandow.
*Natalya d. Layla by Submission to Win the Divas Title Natalya won a Divas Battle Royal on Smackdown in order to earn a shot at the Divas Championship, and she was easily able to outwrestle Layla in the standard match. Natalya eventually defeated the champion with the Sharpshooter to win her third Divas Title.
*Zack Ryder d. Jack Swagger by Pinfall for the #1 Contendership to the Intercontinental Title Zack Ryder's historic run had hit a snag after losing the United States Title to Alberto del Rio back in April (though this loss was due to The Miz's actions the night before in injuring Ryder). Ryder managed to regroup himself eventually and garnered a #1 contenders match for the Intercontinental Title against an equally struggling Jack Swagger. Despite the All-American making a good showing of himself, Ryder hit the Ruff Ryder off the top rope and picked up the win, earning a future shot at the IC Title.
*The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso] d. Hunico & Camacho by Pinfall to Retain the WWE World Tag Team Titles In a standard tag team match, The Usos continued their winning ways, gaining a relatively easy victory over the team of Hunico and Camacho by hitting twin Uso Splashes from opposite corners, celebrating afterwards.
*CM Punk d. Cody Rhodes by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship Cody Rhodes had earned a shot at the WWE Championship by winning a Fatal Fourway match on an episode of Raw, in which Punk was performing guest color commentary. After the match, Punk got in the ring to shake Rhodes' hand, which the formerly Dashing one accepted, only to kick Punk low and then hit a Cross Rhodes on his new opponent, setting the stage for this match. The former IC Champion availed himself well, and came close to unseating the lengthy reign of the Second City Saint, but CM Punk pulled out another victory in the end, hitting the G2S after fighting out of an attempted second Cross Rhodes to pick up the victory.
*Randy Orton d. Chris Jericho, Antonio Cesaro, The Miz, John Cena & The Big Show in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the WWE Championship Contract John Cena made his return to WWE after Brock Lesnar had broke his arm back at Extreme Rules, and was eager to get back into the WWE Title picture, immediately declaring himself for the Money in the Bank ladder match (as opposed to having to earn his way in like everyone else, though Cena appeared oblivious to this fact). The match would largely come down to longtime rivals Randy Orton and John Cena, as both men traded attempts to climb the ladder and win the briefcase. Miz briefly looked as if he would become a 2 time Mr. Money in the Bank, only to be intercepted by Zack Ryder who came from the back and attacked the Intercontinental Champion, retaliation from their feud earlier in the year. In the end, Cena and Orton traded punches atop two ladders with everyone else down, and Cena looked like he would hoist Orton into the air and deliver an Attitude Adjustment to Orton to win. However Orton fought back and eventually kicked Cena's ladder to the ground, causing Big Match John to crash to the mat below. Orton then grabbed the briefcase and won, leaving a frustrated John Cena to close the show.

WWE Summerslam August 19, 2012 Staples Center Los Angeles, CA
*The Prime Time Players [Titus O'Neil & Darren Young] d. The Usos [Jimmy & Jey Uso] by Pinfall Former NXT tag team champions The Prime Time Players made a full time leap to the main roster, taking on former WWE tag team champions in the Usos. The two former rival teams had an evenly paced match that saw Young and O'Neil surprisingly pull out the win, hitting a combination top rope legdrop and spinebuster on Jimmy Uso to pull out the big win.
*Dolph Ziggler & Chris Jericho d. Alberto del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez by Pinfall to Retain the WWE World Tag Team Titles Shortly after Money in the Bank, Chris Jericho formed a sort of "mentor-mentee" relationship with the winner of one of the briefcases in Dolph Ziggler. To the surprise of many, Ziggler and Jericho won the WWE World Tag Team Championships, and were set to defend them against the Show Off's longtime rival Alberto del Rio and his personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez. The ring announcer was surprisingly adept in the ring (even surprising del Rio himself). Even more surprising was that Jericho and Ziggler were genuinely on the same page, and Ziggler eventually pinned del Rio following a Zig Zag which Jericho followed up with a Lionsault.
*Richie Steamboat d. Curtis Axel by Pinfall The partnership between the former NXT champions had dissolved almost as quickly as it had come about, with Axel turning on Steamboat during the Money in the Bank ladder match the previous month out of jealousy and spite. This led the pair of 2nd generation stars having a match on Smackdown, which ended in disqualification when Axel hit a deliberate lowblow. The rematch saw Axel take control early on, working over Steamboat's knee. However the son of the Dragon rebounded and hit a top rope cross body to pick up the hard earned victory.
*Daniel Bryan d. Kane by Pinfall Since losing his series of matches against CM Punk, Daniel Bryan had been mired with dealing with "anger issues", something that also aflicted the Big Red Machine Kane. Despite appearing in several segments of Anger Management together, the two were advised to put all their issues with one another to the side in a match at Wrestlemania. Kane's power overwhelmed Bryan at first, but the submission specialist eventually outmanuvered Kane to lock him in the LeBell Lock, nearly getting the win. After Kane managed to get to the ropes, the two men slapped each other repeatedly, seemingly exhausted. Dr. Shelby, their therapist in the Anger Management skits, appeared at ringside, urging both men to "hug it out", which they seemingly did, only for Bryan to trip up Kane and then hook him in a Small Package, getting the sudden pinfall victory. After the match, Dr. Shelby tried to assuade Kane from further aggression, only to eat a Chokeslam for his troubles.
*Jack Swagger w/Zeb Colter d. Kofi Kingston by Submission to Win the United States Title After Money in the Bank, Jack Swagger appeared with a new manager in Zeb Colter. Taking the persona of a xenophobic anti-immigrant advocate, the All-American began referring to himself as "The Real American" and sought to become a champion the US could be proud of, taking on US Champion Kofi Kingston. Swagger attacked Kingston with a surprising amount of ferocity, and eventually won the US title via submission with the renamed ankle lock, dubbed "The Patriot Lock".
*Zack Ryder d. The Miz by Disqualification [Miz Retains the Intercontinental Title] The feud between Zack Ryder and The Miz extended back into the spring, when Miz had essentially cost Ryder the United States championship. Things had been on the back burner since then (largely due to Miz's absence while filming a movie), but had heated back up as Ryder became the #1 contender to the Miz's Intercontinental Title, scoring victories over the A-Lister in tag matches in the build to Summerslam. Ryder and Miz were evenly matched, but unlike their previous encounter in the spring, Miz didn't underestimate Ryder. He was also unable to put the Broski away, leading to Miz again resorting to intentional disqualification, pulling the referee in the way of a potential Ruff Ryder to save his own skin, resulting in the referee disqualifying Miz before Ryder could put him away.
*Natalya w/Beth Phoenix d. AJ Lee w/Kaitlyn & Nikki Bella w/Brie Bella in a Triple Threat Match to Retain the Divas Title The Divas Title was centered around a feud between three tag teams, namely the Bella Twins, the friendship of AJ Lee and Kaitlyn, and the so-called "Divas of Destruction" in Natalya and Beth Phoenix. A triple threat match was set for Summerslam with Natalya defending against a representative of the other two factions in AJ Lee and Nikki Bella. In spite of outsized interference from the other members of these teams, Natalya was able to sneak away with a win by rolling up Brie Bella (who had tried to perform Twin Magic with Nikki to steal a win). After the match, Beth Phoenix celebrated with Natalya briefly, before turning on her and hitting her with a Glam Slam, posing with the Divas Title afterwards.
*King Sheamus d. Antonio Cesaro w/Aksana by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The undefeated (in singles competition, anyway) Antonio Cesaro had won a battle royal on Smackdown to become the new #1 contender to King Sheamus' World Title. The two ostensible heels had shown a decent amount of respect for one another, only for Cesaro to turn on Sheamus and beat him down afterwards. Cesaro looked to continue this domination over Sheamus, focusing on the head and neck area that he had damaged in the build towards Summerslam and limiting the champion's power move set. Sheamus however was able to withstand the attacks of the Swiss Superman, and fought out of an attempted Neutralizer with a backdrop before hitting Brogue Kick out of nowhere for a near fall. Sheamus went for the Celtic Cross, but Cesaro fought out of the move. Cesaro tried a springboard uppercut, only for Sheamus to bat him out of the air. The champion then followed up with a 2nd Brogue Kick to get the pinfall and victory after a hard fought match. Afterwards, Cesaro shook Sheamus' hand (much to the chagrin of Aksana at ringside) as a sign of respect.
*Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman d. Triple H by Pinfall Following Lesnar's assault on John Cena at Extreme Rules (that resulted in Lesnar technically losing the match via disqualification), COO Triple H came out on Raw and demanded Lesnar explain his actions. This call was answered by, to the shock of many, Paul Heyman, who made his return as the "advocate and advisor" to Brock Lesnar. Heyman read a letter to Triple H, stating that Lesnar wouldn't explain his actions verbally. Triple H then told Heyman to have Lesnar show up at Over the Limit, which didn't happen. Triple H then suspended Lesnar indefinitely, while also delivering a Pedigree to Heyman after Heyman made disparaging remarks about Triple H's wife Stephanie. A month later, Heyman (wearing a neck brace) threatened to sue WWE unless Triple H reinstated Lesnar, which the COO was forced to do by the Board of Directors, only for The Game to then book a match between himself and Lesnar for Summerslam. Lesnar only showed up a few times in the build, interrupting Raw and Smackdown and laying waste to any in his path en route to his showdown with Triple H. While The Game fared marginally better than Cena had back in April, it was clear that Lesnar was still a dangerous opponent, and eventually Brock hit Triple H with an F5 for the victory. Lesnar then slapped Triple H into the Kimura Lock after the match, much like he had with Cena, snapping his arm and leaving the Game writhing in agony.
*CM Punk d. Randy Orton & John Cena in a Triple Threat Match to Retain the WWE Championship The night after Money in the Bank, John Cena confronted WWE Champion CM Punk and challenged him to a title match at the 1000th episode of Raw the following week in St. Louis. Before Punk could accept the challenge though, they were interrupted by Randy Orton, who announced his intention to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase the following week, and telling Cena to "get to the back of the line." This sentiment was echoed by Triple H, who told Cena Orton would get the title shot owed to him. During Raw 1000, Cena received several text messages from an unknown source (assumed to be Punk or Orton, though Punk denied it at the time and Orton didn't comment) taunting him with his recent string of losses. Cena was at ringside for color commentary and, when Orton and Punk both insulted Cena, Big Match John lost his cool and attacked both men, resulting in the cash-in match being thrown out. Cena would then go on to defeat Orton the following week on Raw (after Punk interfered) to earn his way into a rematch between Punk and Orton and Summerslam, making the match a triple threat. All three men had viable opportunities to win, and it looked as if Orton would pull out the victory when he hit an RKO on both Cena and Punk. Before Orton could get the pin though, Paul Heyman (who had been hiding under the ring) put Punk's foot on the ropes to break up the pinfall. Orton chased Heyman around the ring, cornering him inside of it, only to turn around and receive an Attitude Adjustment from Cena. Before Cena could make the cover though, Punk rolled him up and held his tights for the quick victory. Punk then high tailed it out of the ring, Heyman by his side, having turned heel and stolen a victory to close the show.

WWE Night of Champions September 16, 2012 TD Garden Boston, MA
*John Cena d. Randy Orton by Disqualification to Earn a WWE Championship Match Later in the Night CM Punk had turned heel and cheated his way to retaining the WWE Championship at Summerslam, stealing a victory from both Randy Orton and John Cena thanks to his association with Paul Heyman. Both Cena and Orton had complaints to be #1 contender, but newly appointed acting CEO Stephanie McMahon (filling in for her husband Triple H, after Brock Lesnar had sidelined him with a broken arm) ordered that a #1 contenders match happen at Night of Champions, with the winner between Cena and Orton going on to face CM Punk later in the night. Cena and Orton had their usual match, with the longtime rivals each able to counter the others moves without difficulty. The match would end in controversy though, as Paul Heyman made his way to ringside and distracted both Cena and Orton. Cena took the first swing at Heyman, causing Paul to drop off the apron and trip Cena. This led to the referee disqualifying Orton and giving Cena the win. Orton then chased Heyman up the ramp, only for the Viper to run right into Brock Lesnar at the entryway, who delivered an F5 to the Viper. Lesnar then tipped his imaginary hat towards Cena, before walking away with Heyman.
*Antonio Cesaro w/Aksana d. The Miz, Zack Ryder & Kofi Kingston by Pinfall to Win the Intercontinental Title The Miz was facing fire from all corners, continuing his rivalry with Zack Ryder, facing a new #1 contender in Antonio Cesaro, and having lost a non-title match to Kofi Kingston on Smackdown. This led to Stephanie McMahon's newly appointed assistant GM Mick Foley to make a Fatal Fourway Match for Night of Champions. The Miz was instantly targeted by all three challengers, and had to try and dodge all of them, laying low as the other three men took each other out and hoping to steal a victory. However this would fail him, as after Kingston hit a Trouble in Paradise on Ryder, Miz snuck in and hit a Skull Crushing Finale on Kofi. Miz was then faced with the dangerous Cesaro, who swung Miz around the ring with a Giant Swing before delivering a massive European uppercut that dropped Miz. Ryder tried to hit a Ruff Ryder on Cesaro, but the Swiss Superman dodged it and hit the Neutralizer instead on Ryder, pinning the Broski and becoming Intercontinental Champion for the first time.
*Team Hell No [Daniel Bryan & Kane] w/Dr. Shelby d. Dolph Ziggler & Chris Jericho by Pinfall to Win the WWE World Tag Team Titles Daniel Bryan had snuck a win from Kane at Summerslam, and the Big Red Machine had returned the favor the following week on Smackdown. This led to their therapist, Dr. Shelby, trying a different tactic by teaming them together. Surprisingly enough the team (colloquially known as Team Hell No) had lucked their way into winning the #1 contendership to the tag team titles. Surprisingly they had enough chemistry as a tandem to throw off the mentor tag team of Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho for a time. Jericho looked to finish off Kane towards the end of the match, locking him in the Walls of Jericho, but Daniel made a blind tag and saved his partner, causing a 4 man ruckus. Amidst the chaos, Jericho attempted to hit Bryan with a Codebreaker, only for him to catch a rake to the eyes from Kane. This blinded him, and when Ziggler tried to check on him, Jericho hit the Codebreaker on Ziggler instead. Dolph then stumbled into a Chokeslam from Kane, allowing the Big Red Machine to get the pinfall. As Bryan and Kane celebrated with Dr. Shelby (actually arguing with each other up the ramp as to who was responsible for their victory), Ziggler tried to figure out what happened from Jericho. Y2J apologized, which Ziggler seemed to accept, before Jericho snapped and hit a 2nd Codebreaker on his partner, leaving him lying.
*Natalya d. Beth Phoenix by Submission to Retain the Divas Title After Beth Phoenix had turned on Natalya at Summerslam, the two Divas were set for a collision course. Natalya won a match on Raw faster than Beth Phoenix did, allowing her to choose the stipulation for the Divas Title Match. She chose to make it a submission match. This did not limit the Glamazon's power game, as she easily tossed Natalya around and worked over her upper body, attempting to gain a submission with a Double Chickenwing hold. Natalya fought out of the hold though and eventually locked Phoenix in the Sharpshooter, earning the tapout victory. Backstage, Stephanie McMahon confronted Lesnar and Heyman, telling them both that they were being kicked out of the building for the duration of the event after what they had done earlier in the night. Stephanie also told Heyman to tell CM Punk that she had added a stipulation to his match, making it No Disqualifications.
*Jack Swagger w/Zeb Colter d. Sin Cara by Submission to Retain the United States Title Since winning the United States title, the Real American Jack Swagger had set about taking down every immigrant in the WWE, starting with the "illegals from south of the border" as Zeb Colter put it. His first target was Ricardo Rodriguez, the personal ring announcer of Alberto del Rio. When this true del Rio's ire, Swagger attacked him and locked him in the Patriot Lock, putting him out of action. The next target was luchadore Sin Cara, and Swagger challenged him to a title defense at Night of Champions. The high flyer put Swagger at a disadvantage at first, but a timely distraction from Zeb Colter put Sin Cara down, and Swagger eventually locked in the Patriot Lock to get the submission victory and retain his title.
*King Sheamus d. Cody Rhodes w/Damien Sandow by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship Cody Rhodes had aligned himself with the self-professed Intellectual Savior of the Masses in Damien Sandow over the past few recent weeks, as well as targeting World Heavyweight Champion King Sheamus. The King had been defending his title left and right, and was seemingly getting worn down from being a fighting champion. He still accepted Rhodes challenge, but was ambushed by Sandow as he made his entrance to the ring, giving the former IC Champion the advantage. Cody was unable to capitalize though, and Sheamus fought out of an attempted Cross Rhodes and hit a Brogue Kick to both Cody and Sandow (knocking the latter off the apron when he tried to interfere) before following up with a Celtic Cross to Cody to get the pinfall victory.
*CM Punk d. John Cena by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship With Paul Heyman banished and No Disqualifications to save him, the time seemed apt for John Cena to finally slay the CM Punk dragon and regain the WWE Title. The long-reigining champion proved his mettle though, having a counter for all of Cena's offense and not afraid to resort to dirty tactics himself, with the barrier of Disqualification having been lifted for him too. Near the end of the match, the referee went down, preventing any fall from being counted. Cena seemingly had the match won, however, after locking Punk in an STF in the center of the ring. Punk visibly tapped, but with no referee the fall couldn't be counted. Before he could revive the ref, Cena was attacked by three masked men in riot gear, who stormed the ring and attacked Cena. The three men then threw Cena to the outside and delivered a Triple Powerbomb to Big Match John, putting him through the announce table. The men then tossed Cena back in the ring, allowing Punk to get the pin attempt just as the ref came too and giving the Second City Saint the unlikely victory in Cena's hometown.

WWE Hell in a Cell October 28, 2012 Phillips Arena Atlanta, GA
*The Miz d. King Sheamus by Pinfall to Win the World Heavyweight Championship After months of defending the World Heavyweight Championship against all comers, King Sheamus found himself facing former WWE Champion The Miz, who had insulted the Irishman on an edition of Miz TV. Sheamus was clearly worn down from the myriad of title defenses he had over the course of the summer, but it looked as if he would prevail against the Miz again until the referee was accidentally knocked down by an errant clothesline from the Celtic Warrior. The Miz used the distraction to grab the World Heavyweight Title Belt and clock Sheamus in the back of the head with it, though this only garnered a two count. Miz finished the job with a Skull Crushing Finale to get the pin and win the World Heavyweight Championship.
*The Rhodes Scholars [Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow] d. The Prime Time Players [Titus O'Neill & Darren Young] by Pinfall Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow had formed a tag team in the latter half of summer, effectively calling themselves The Rhodes Scholars. While their partnership wasn't enough to earn Cody the World Heavyweight Championship the month before, it was enough for them to defeat the Prime Time Players here and earn a tag team title shot against Team Hell No the following night on Raw.
*Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman d. Randy Orton by Pinfall in a Hell in a Cell Match The previous month at Night of Champions, Brock Lesnar had attacked Randy Orton after Orton had been screwed out of a World Title shot by Paul Heyman. Orton had then cornered Heyman on Smackdown, threatening to end him unless he got a match with Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell, which Heyman was eager to grant (stating that he didn't know that Orton had a "death wish.") Orton utilized the environment of the Cell to his advantage, able to hold off the Beast for a period of time. Orton even hit an RKO out of nowhere for a near fall. However Lesnar eventually hit an F5 on Orton before tossing a pair of steel steps into the ring. Lesnar then delivered a 2nd F5 on the Viper onto the steel steps before pinning him, continuing his run of dominance.
*Jack Swagger w/Zeb Colter d. Scott Armstrong by Submission to Retain the United States Title Jack Swagger was originally supposed to defend the United States title against Rey Mysterio, but an injury to the luchadore had sidelined him for this event. Zeb Colter said that "like a Real American" Swagger would defend the US Title against a handpicked challenger, bringing out "Atlanta Wrestling Legend", referee Scott Armstrong for the title match. Swagger clotheslined Armstrong immediately as the match began and then hooked in the Patriot Lock to win in less than 30 seconds. However, before Swagger and Colter could celebrate, Stephanie McMahon came out and said that she had found a true challenge for Swagger, bringing back the recently returned Alberto del Rio.
*Alberto del Rio d. Jack Swagger w/Zeb Colter by Submission to Win the United States Title Swagger acted with dismay at the Mexican Aristocrat's sudden return from injury. Swagger attempted to fight back against del Rio, but the former WWE Champion had too much anger and emotion fueling him, eventually locking in the Cross Arm Breaker and picking up the victory and regaining the United States Title.
*Dolph Ziggler d. Chris Jericho by Pinfall in a No Disqualification Match to Retain the Money in the Bank Contract After Chris Jericho turned on Dolph Ziggler the previous month, Jericho made it his mission to remove the Money in the Bank briefcase from a "wet behind the ears brat" like Ziggler and put it on someone who could use it, namely himself. This set up a No Disqualification match for the Money in the Bank briefcase at Hell in a Cell. Both men were evenly matched, and it looked like Jericho would pull out the win when he locked Ziggler in the Walls of Jericho at the center of the ring. However Ziggler was able to turn out of the submission and, grabbing a kendo stick nearby, batter Jericho in the head to get him to break the hold. Ziggler then hit a Superkick followed by a Fameasser onto an open steel chair to pick up the win and retain his contract.
*CM Punk w/Paul Heyman d. John Cena by Pinfall in a Hell in a Cell Match to Retain the WWE Championship After John Cena had been screwed out of the WWE Title by three masked men the previous month, Assistant General Manager Mick Foley agreed to give Cena a return match for the title, this time inside Hell in a Cell with the certainty that no one could get involved. That optimism though was misplaced, as after a lengthy and grueling battle that saw both men busted open, the side of the cell was broken through by a spear from Cena. Punk climbed to the top of the cell in an attempt to try and escape, but Cena ran after him. With both men on top of the Cell fighting, suddenly the three masked men repelled from the ceiling and landed on top of the Cell, distracting Cena long enough for Punk to hit the GTS. Punk started to climb down the cell as the three men put the boots to Cena, before delivering a Triple Power Bomb that drove Cena through the roof of the cell onto a waiting table in the center of the ring. Punk then pinned the unconscious Cena for the win as medical personnel tended to the former champion to close the show.

*Antonio Cesaro d. Kofi Kingston by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title Since winning the Intercontinental Title, the Swiss Superman Antonio Cesaro had continued his winning ways. However the respect he had shown fallen opponents had rubbed his valet, Aksana, the wrong way, leading to an acrimonious split the previous month on Smackdown. The match against Kofi Kingston was a fairly standard title defense that saw Cesaro nearly lose when Aksana attempted to intervene on Kingston's behalf. Kofi however, refused her help and caused her to get ejected from ringside. After an athletic match, Kofi missed on a Trouble in Paradise, allowing Cesaro to set him up for the Neutralizer and pick up the victory.
*Alberto del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez d. Jack Swagger & Zeb Colter by Pinfall Alberto del Rio had returned to the WWE after a brief injury, dethroning the Real American Jack Swagger of the United States title in a surprise match. The rematch between the two also saw the return of Ricardo Rodriguez, who saved his employer from a beatdown from both Swagger and Swagger's manager Zeb Colter. This led Assistant General Manager Mick Foley to make a Mixed Tag Match for Survivor Series that saw Rodriguez team with del Rio against Swagger and Colter. Despite the rules of the match dictating that the manager's should only fight each other, the referee was unable to keep order, and Colter found himself locked in a Cross Arm Breaker from Del Rio briefly. At the end of the match, Rodriguez himself followed up with an armbar on Colter, causing him to tap out and giving Del Rio's team the win.
*The Miz d. King Sheamus by Disqualification to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship After The Miz defeated King Sheamus at Hell in a Cell for the World Title. A rematch was scheduled for Smackdown, which the Miz lost when he got himself intentionally counted out. Acting WWE CEO Stephanie McMahon wasn't going to stand for this, and so she ordered a rematch for Survivor Series, where if Miz was disqualified or counted out, he would lose the match. At first it looked as if the stipulation would benefit Sheamus, as every situation in which the Miz would normally cheat he stopped himself, giving the Irishman an opening. However the referee eventually went down, allowing Miz to try and cheat with impunity. Miz grabbed the World Heavyweight Title belt to KO Sheamus with it, only to miss and for Sheamus to hit the Brogue Kick for a visual pin. Sheamus then grabbed the title belt himself and waited for Miz to get to his feet, KO'ing him with the belt. Unfortunately, the referee saw this, disqualifying Sheamus and giving Miz the win. After the match, a frustrated Sheamus hit Miz with several Beats of the Bodhran against the ropes before knocking him out with another Brogue Kick. This left Miz staggering as Dolph Ziggler ran to ringside with a second referee, cashing in his briefcase.
*Dolph Ziggler d. The Miz via Money in the Bank Cash-In to Win the World Heavyweight Championship The Miz was barely conscious as Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot and hit him with a Zig Zag to win the title, much to the delight of the Indianapolis crowd.
*AJ Lee w/Kaitlyn d. Natalya by Submission to Win the Divas Title Natalya had managed to fend off every challenger to her Divas Title since winning it, largely down to her submission skills. Former NXT Women's Champion AJ Lee was also a submission specialist, leading to her challenging Natalya to a Submission Match at Survivor Series. Lee and Natalya had a highly competitive match that saw each one work over a limb to set up their own signature submission. In the end though, AJ was able to fight out of the Sharpshooter attempt and catch Natalya on an Irish Whip rebound to lock in the Black Widow, getting the tap out and winning the Divas Title.
*The Shield [Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns] d. John Cena & Team Hell No [Kane & Daniel Bryan] In a Six Man Elimination Match After Hell in a Cell, the three masked men in riot gear were revealed to be NXT stars Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns, who had formed a group called The Shield. This group was set to serve "justice" to the WWE, targeting John Cena because of Cena's perceived backstage pull "keeping guys like them down." They also targeted Team Hell No after that team insulted them backstage, costing them the WWE World Tag Team Titles against the Rhodes Scholars. This set up an Elimination Tag Match at Survivor Series, though Cena didn't return until the go home episode of Raw, due to the "injuries" he sustained in Hell in a Cell being powerbombed through the cell roof to the ring below. It was clear that Cena still wasn't 100%, coming to the ring with taped up ribs, and The Shield took advantage of this, eliminating Cena first after Reigns hit a Spear. This left Kane and Daniel Bryan in a Handicap position, made worse when Kane was hit with a low blow from behind by Ambrose and then drilled with a Curb Stomp by Rollins. Bryan nearly got an Elimination on Ambrose, locking him in the LeBell Lock, but Rollins made the save and eventually Bryan was hit with a Shield Triple Power Bomb with Ambrose getting the pin to pick up the clean sweep win.
*CM Punk w/Paul Heyman d. Randy Orton by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship With CM Punk having retained his title with help from the Shield in recent weeks, Acting CEO Stephanie McMahon and Assistant General Manager Mick Foley tried to come up with a way to ensure that Punk would have no help in his title match against Randy Orton at Survivor Series. Eventually Foley "made a call to an old tag partner of his" and got The Rock to return to act as the Special Guest Enforcer for the match, keeping the Shield at bay. Punk and Orton had a good match between them that eventually saw the referee taken out by an errant clothesline from Orton. Orton hit an RKO, but The Rock was distracted by Paul Heyman on the outside, delaying his entrance into the ring to make a three count. Rock took over as the referee at that point, and Orton seemed poised to hit his Punt Kick for the victory, but Punk ducked out of the way and hit Orton with the GTS, as Rock reluctantly made the count to give Punk the victory and guarantee that his WWE Title reign would last more than a year. As Punk celebrated, he mouthed off to The Rock, continuing the war of words they had had over the previous week, eventually leading to Rock hitting Punk with a Rock Bottom and leaving him lying. Rocky then held up the WWE Title to the delight of the crowd to close the show.
