Note: Due to the change in the match timeline, Finn Balor doesn't get injured in this world, giving him a bit longer reign at the top.
WWE SummerslamAugust 21, 2016 Barclays Center Brooklyn, NY
*Enzo Amore & Big Cass d. Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho by Disqualification to Retain the World Tag Team Titles The friendship duo of Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho had teamed together to take out the loudmouth world tag team champions of Enzo Amore and Big Cass, largely after the latter had "inadvertently" cost Owens a match against Big E of the New Day that kept Owens out of the Fatal Fourway to crown a new World Heavyweight Champion. Big Cass was seemingly injured early on in the match, tweaking his ankle and forcing Enzo to go it alone. Owens and Jericho dominated the Smacktalker Skywalker, but Enzo refused to be pinned long enough to make a tag to the injured, but still capable, Big Cass. The champions rallied and had Owens seemingly on the ropes, when a low blow from Jericho right in front of the referee saved Owens from being pinned in the match. This cost Owens and Jericho the match, but saved Owens from some degree of embarrasment. Moreso when Jericho wound up taking the How Ya Doin from the champions while Owens looked on in bewilderment.
*The Undertaker d. The Miz w/Maryse by Pinfall in a Non-Title Match Intercontinental Champion The Miz, spurred on by a confrontation with Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan, challenged the Undertaker in the latest of the Deadman's "retirement matches", as the edict from Vince McMahon back in February that the Undertaker's next loss would be his last match still stood in effect. The Miz tried to cheapshot the Undertaker early on, using his own wife Maryse as a distraction while he attacked the Phenom from behind. While The Miz did manage to get a near fall after hitting a Skull Crushing Finale onto a Steel Chair behind the referee's back, The Undertaker was able to kick out. He then hit a Chokeslam followed by a Tombstone to keep his career in tact.
*Paige d. Becky Lynch by Pinfall to Win the World Women's Championship With the WWE Women's Championship exclusive to Raw, Smackdown Show Runner Shane McMahon took the opportunity to create a second Women's Title in the form of the Women's World Championship. A battle royal featuring all the women on Smackdown (and a couple from NXT) resulted in Paige and Becky Lynch being eliminated simultaneously, leading to this match at Summerslam to crown the inaugural champion. Despite Paige supposedly nursing a neck injury, she was able to fight back against the Irish Lass Kicker, fighting out of an attempted Dis-Arm-Her to hit the Rampaige DDT and pickup the win via pinfall.
*Finn Balor d. Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn & Big E by Pinfall to Win the World Heavyweight Championship A similar situation was playing out on Raw, with the WWE Champion being exclusive to Smackdown. This led to Stephanie McMahon, acting on advice from her husband Triple H, to resurrect the World Heavyweight Championship that had been ostensibly folded into the WWE Title since 2013. Four men qualified for the inaugural title match, including newly called up former NXT champion Finn Balor. Interestingly, Seth Rollins was also in the match, having spurned the request of Triple H for helping him in his feud with Bray Wyatt in favor of chasing after this new title. It would be for not though, as Rollins was taken out early by Balor, who hit a diving splash through the announce table to take out the Architect. Big E nearly scored the upset after hitting Sami Zayn with the Big Ending, but Balor again interfered and stopped the pinfall. In the end, Rollins got back into the match just long enough to eat a Helluva Kick to the head from Zayn, who was then hit by a Sling Blade from Balor. Balor then hit the Coup de Grace on Rollins to pick up the win and become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
*Bray Wyatt w/Bo Wyatt d. Triple H w/Stephanie McMahon by Pinfall The previous month at Battleground it was revealed that Bray Wyatt was the man who had been harrasing both Stephanie McMahon and Triple H and their family for several months, leaving cryptic notes and sending disturbing images through the mail to play Mind Games with the Cerebral Asssassin. The obsession with Triple H for Wyatt stretched back to 2014, when Triple H had initially ordered Wyatt to take out Daniel Bryan, only for Wyatt to balk at the request and remind the Game that "there are worse Games to play." The two finally met in a match at Summerslam, with Bo Dallas (Bray Wyatt's real life brother) having fully been converted to his cause and now calling himself Bo Wyatt on the outside. Triple H's fury played against him, and the interference from both Wyatt's would cost him in the end, as Bray eventually hit Triple H with Sister Abigail's Kiss to pick up the pinfall. When Stephanie confronted Bray and attempted to slap him, Bray simply caught the hand and then delivered Sister Abigail to the Show Runner of Raw as well, as paramedics would tend to the fallen McMahon.
*Charlotte Flair w/Dana Brooke d. Sasha Banks w/Bayley by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Women's Championship The feud between Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks had continued after Banks and her new second Bayley had defeated Flair and her "#1 fan" Dana Brooke in a tag match at Battleground, leading to Banks getting another shot at Flair's Women's Championship. It appeared that Banks would get the job done too, as Bayley was able to keep Brooke's interference to a minimum. However their out of the ring shenanigans provided a timely distraction for the referee and allowed Charlotte to pull a pair of brass knuckles out and KO the Boss with them. After disposing of the evidence, Charlotte then pinned Sasha to retain her title.
*AJ Styles d. John Cena by Pinfall FOr the first time ever the Franchise of WWE John Cena met one of the biggest stars in the wrestling world in AJ Styles in a one on one setting. The hype was off the charts for the match and the match lived up to the hype, with both men running deep into their respective bag of tricks to try and pick up the victory. In the end, Styles was able to reverse out of an Attitude Adjustment attempt and hit a Pele Kick to stun Cena, before sliding to the outside and hitting a second Phenomenal Forearm to pick up the upset win and solidify himself as a force in WWE going forward.
*Dean Ambrose d. Randy Orton by Pinfall to Retain the WWE Championship The Viper Randy Orton had won a one night tournament on Smackdown to crown a new #1 contender for the WWE Championship, putting him on a direct path with WWE Champion Dean Ambrose. Orton was heavily favored, given his championship pedigree and the fact that Ambrose had yet to successfully defend the WWE Title in a one on one match. The match though was evenly paced, until AJ Styles and The Club decided to wander to ringside, ostensibly to "scout" the future champion. Their interference would not be permitted by John Cena, however, who came down to play knight in shining armor. This distraction seemingly cost Orton the match after he hit an RKO on Ambrose and the referee missed a visible pinfall. When Orton tried to get back into pinning position after the referee turned back around, he walked right into a King Kong sized Lariat from the champion, who then hit the Paradigm Shift for the pinfall and title retention.
*Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman d. Roman Reigns by Pinfall Brock Lesnar had returned at Battleground, targeting Roman Reigns with the sole objective of avenging his Wrestlemania loss. The build for the match grew more heated when Paul Heyman cut a promo on Reigns' family, and made reference to his recent 30-day wellness policy violation, earning him a Spear for his trouble and sending him to the hospital. This didn't stop Heyman from appearing with his client at Summerslam, wearing a neck brace to sell the injuries. The grudge match turned quickly into a brawl, with Brock dropping his gloves and actually busting Reigns open hard way. The Big Dog fought as best he could, but Lesnar survived a Spear and eventually hit Reigns with 2 consecutive F-5's to pick up the win and avenge his main event loss to close the show.

WWE Backlash September 11, 2016 Richmond Coliseum Richmond, VA
*Apollo Crews d. Kane by Pinfall Apollo Crews was a "hot young prospect" drafted by Smackdown to be the "future of the brand" in the eyes of Shane McMahon. He had continued his run of dominance from NXT, facing off against the veteran Kane in this opening match. Despite the Big Red Machine overpowering him in the early going, Crews eventually took control and hit Kane with the Crews Control to pick up the big win.
*Baron Corbin & The Ascension [Konnor & Viktor] d. Adrian Neville & The Hype Bros [Mojo Rawley & Zack Ryder] by Pinfall The feud between Baron Corbin and Adrian Neville stemming from their feud over the United States Title had continued even after both men had been drafted to Smackdown away from the championship. Corbin hired former Tag Team Champions The Ascension to aide him against Neville and The Hype Bros, a team consisting of Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder. In a fairly standard match, Corbin was able to get the final word against his rival, defeating Neville after hitting him with the End of Days.
*Tyler Breeze d. Fandango Fought to a No Contest The fashionista Tyler Breeze and the Dancing Fool Fandango had been at each other's throats off and on over a year, yet their match here was a result of their miscommunication in the WWE Tag Title Tournament that cost them their first round match against The Club. The two were evenly matched, but their match was interrupted by two other rivals in The Vaudevillains. However Breeze and Fandango set aside their differences long enough to fight back to back to stand tall against the heels.
*The Club [Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson] d. American Alpha [Chad Gable & Jason Jordan] by Pinfall to Win the WWE Tag Team Championships The finals of the WWE Tag Team Title tournament saw The Club take on former NXT Champions American Alpha, who had upset the Usos in the Semifinals. What followed was a long, highly technical match that saw both teams nearly get a fall, and also saw American Alpha mistakenly think they had won after hitting Anderson with the Grand Amplitude, only for Machine Gun to get his foot underneath the bottom rope to break up the pin. In the end, The Club hit Jordan with the Magic Killer after hitting Gable with a low blow behind the referee's back, picking up the pin and winning the titles.
*The Miz w/Maryse d. Dolph Ziggler by Pinfall to Retain the Intercontinental Title For several months former WWE Champion Dolph Ziggler had been in the midst of an ongoing losing streak. While he had been competitive in matches, he had not been able to pull out the victory. Chief among these was a match against Randy Orton prior to Summerslam that saw the Viper earn a WWE Title Shot. Ziggler entered into a feud with Intercontinental Champion the Miz when the longtime rival lampooned Ziggler as a loser unworthy of being in the WWE. Smackdown Show Runner Shane McMahon was willing to give Ziggler a shot to prove himself again, scheduling a title match for Backlash. In the match Ziggler fought with the same vigor that he had in all his matches, and appeared ready to end the losing streak he was on and win the IC Title in the process. Maryse interfered however, hitting Ziggler with a low blow behind the referee's back and allowing Miz to catch Dolph with a Skull Crushing Finale for the win. After the match, a despondent Ziggler walked off to the back, frustrated with yet another close loss.
*Becky Lynch d. Carmella, Nikki Bella, Naomi & Alexa Bliss by Submission to Win the Vacant Women's World Championship Shortly after winning the Women's World Championship at Summerslam, Paige was forced to vacate the title due to needing neck surgery. This meant that five women from the Smackdown roster competed for the vacant title at Backlash. In the end the match largely came down to Becky Lynch and former Divas Champion Naomi, as the two fought for the vacant title. Naomi hit a huge Samoan Drop for a near fall, but the count was interrupted by Nikki Bella, who tried to steal the victory. Lynch recovered though and locked Bella in a Disarm-Her to pick up the submission victory and win the title.
*AJ Styles d. Dean Ambrose, John Cena & Randy Orton by Pinfall in a Four Way Elimination Match to Win the WWE Championship Following Summerslam, Randy Orton took offense to both John Cena and AJ Styles, who's ongoing rivalry had largely cost him the WWE Championship in his match against the Lunatic Fringe Dean Ambrose. This led to GM Daniel Bryan making a Four Way Elimination Match for the title at Backlash as opposed to the standard Fatal Fourway, with the added stipulation that Styles' friends The Club would be barred from ringside. Orton was eliminated first, after being hit with a King Kong Lariat from Ambrose followed by an AA from Cena to pick up the pinfall. However Cena wouldn't last long after that, as he was immediately hit by a Phenomenal Forearm from Styles to facilitate his elimination. Ambrose and Styles then had a back and forth match that saw both men get near falls, and in the end Styles took advantage of a ref bump to hit Ambrose with a pair of brass knuckles before hitting a Styles Clash for the pinfall victory, giving him his first WWE Title. Gallows and Anderson came out afterwards with their own titles, celebrating together to end the show.

WWE Clash of Champions September 25, 2016 Bankers Life Fieldhouse Indianapolis, IN
*Kevin Owens w/Chris Jericho d. Big E w/The New Day by Pinfall to Earn a Shot at the World Heavyweight Championship The feud between Kevin Owens (with Chris Jericho in his corner) and the New Day had continued on an episode of Raw, when a 12 man battle royal to crown a new #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship saw both factions eliminated by the other. This led to Owens and Big E being granted a shot at each other to earn a shot at the title. The antics on the outside between The New Day and Chris Jericho led to all three men being tossed out by the referee. Big E and Owens then had a competitive match, that still would see outside interference when Chris Jericho came back down to ringside to distract the referee and prevent a fall from being counted after Big E hit the Big Ending. Surreptitiously, however, Jericho tossed the steel clipboard carrying "The List of Jericho" to his friend, which allowed Owens to use it on Big E behind the referee's back. Owens then pinned Big E to become #1 contender to the World Heavyweight Title.
*Nia Jax d. Sasha Banks by Pinfall The Boss Sasha Banks was looking for another shot at Charlotte Flair for the WWE Women's Championship, but ran afoul of the Raw debut of Nia Jax, who had become the muscle for Charlotte Flair (after Flair had dismissed her #1 fan Dana Brooke after Dana nearly cost her the championship at one point). Jax dominated the Legit Boss in her debut match on Raw, eventually pinning the former Women's Champion following a Sit Out Power Bomb.
*The Revival [Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder] d. Enzo Amore & Big Cass by Pinfall to Win the World Tag Team Championship Shortly after Summerslam, former NXT tag team champions The Revival had made their main roster debut, and immediately targeted Enzo Amore and Big Cass for the World Tag Team Championship. The two teams had done battle in NXT before, with the Revival always coming out on top, but a new attitude from Enzo Amore seemed to turn the tables as he actually managed to outwrestle Scott Dawson in the early going of the match. However The Revival eventually got a double team and turned the tide, hitting the Shatter Machine on Enzo and then double teaming Big Cass before hitting their finish on him as well to get the pinfall and win the titles in relative convincing fashion.
*Roman Reigns d. Rusev w/Lana by Disqualification [Rusev Retains the United States Title] After failing to gain the World Heavyweight Championship and falling to Brock Lesnar at Summerslam, Roman Reigns attempted to get back on the winning track by challenging Rusev for the United States Title. The two had a brutal match with several hard hitting moves, and in the end Lana had to interject herself to save Rusev from a Spear, taking a Spear herself. Rusev then choked out Roman out of anger, earning a disqualification, before locking Roman in the Accolade and forcing him to pass out.
*Triple H & Braun Strowman d. Bo & Bray Wyatt by Pinfall The feud between Triple H and the Wyatts had continued following Bray's victory at Summerslam, as the Eater of Worlds challenged The Game to find a tag team partner to face them at Clash of Champions. Triple H again turned to his former protege, Seth Rollins, but the Architect said he was more concerned with becoming the man who defeated the Undertaker and ended his career. So instead Triple H pulled out his ace in the hole in the form of former Wyatt Family member Braun Strowman. The Monster Amongst Men had broken free of Wyatt's control, and made for a dominant partner for the Cerebral Assassin. The Wyatt's attacked Strowman first and attempted to take him out by damaging his knee, forcing Triple H to face Bray and Bo by himself for a time. Once Strowman got involved in the match, though, he ran roughshod, causing Bray to abandon his own brother. Braun then pinned Bo following a Running Powerslam.
*Charlotte Flair d. Bayley by Submission to Retain the WWE Women's Championship Charlotte Flair attempted to defend her title without the benefit of her former #1 fan Dana Brooke at her side, taking on former NXT Women's Champion Bayley. Unlike other opponents, Flair didn't underestimate the hugger, and the two women put on a stellar match. In the end, Flair managed to lock Bayley in the Figure-8 to win cleanly, proving she could retain her title in a fair fight.
*Finn Balor d. Sheamus by Pinfall to Retain the World Heavyweight Championship The Celtic Warrior Sheamus had surprised a lot of people by winning a Battle Royal to crown a new #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, last eliminating Antonio Cesaro to do so. This gave Sheamus a match against the champion, Finn Balor, for which Cesaro would be at ringside providing guest commentary. Balor and Sheamus had a hard hitting match, with the two Irishmen matching each other move for move. Sheamus looked like he had the match in hand on the outside when he was briefly distracted by Cesaro on the outside, leading to the Swiss Superman to shove him briefly. When Sheamus got back in the ring, attempting to suplex Balor in, Cesaro tripped him up and nearly cost him the match. Sheamus then went after Cesaro but was cut off by Balor, who hit him with the Sling Blade then followed up with the Coup de Grace to retain his title.
*The Undertaker d. Seth Rollins by Pinfall Seth Rollins became the latest man to challenge The Undertaker in an effort to end the Dead Man's career. The Architect fared better than most people, attacking the Undertaker before the bell and hitting him with two Curb Stomps early on in an effort to put down the Phenom early. Undertaker fought from underneath, though, fighting back and hitting Rollins with a Chokeslam from the top rope through an announce table. Rollins got another near fall after hitting a Pedigree to the Undertaker, but the Phenom got a foot underneath the bottom rope. In the end, Undertaker caught Rollins on a Moonsault attempt and then drilled him with a Tombstone Piledriver to pick up the win and retain his career once again to end the night.

WWE No Mercy October 9, 2016 Golden 1 Center Sacramento, CA
*Dean Ambrose d. The Ascension [Konnor & Viktor] by Pinfall in a Handicap Match Following his defeat at the hands of AJ Styles for the WWE Championship the month before at Backlash, Dean Ambrose suddenly found himself the target of mercenaries The Ascension (who, it was revealed, were paid by Styles and the Club to try and take him out). Ambrose, not wanting to waste time, asked Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan for a Handicap Match against The Ascension. The match saw Konnor and Viktor control the early part through sheer numbers, but eventually Ambrose took out Konnor with a King Kong Lariat to the outside. The Lunatic Fringe then hit Viktor with a Paradigm Shift to pick up the win.
*The Club [Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson] d. The Fashion Police [Tyler Breeze & Fandango] by Pinfal to Retain the WWE Tag Team Titles Former rivals Tyler Breeze and Fandango had formed a duo known as The Fashion Police and had seen some degree of success, earning a tag title shot against Gallows and Anderson. The Club underestimated the comedic duo, almost to the point of costing them their titles. However they eventually retook control of the match and hit Fandango with the Magic Killer to pick up the win and retain their belts.
*Apollo Crews d. Baron Corbin by Pinfall An old NXT rivalry was renewed as Apollo Crews faced former North American Champion Baron Corbin. The two former champions had a match reminiscent of their encounters on the black and gold brand, with Crews managing to avoid Corbin's End of Days finisher and eventually hit the Crews Control for the victory.
*American Alpha [Chad Gable & Jason Jordan] & Adrian Neville d. The Family [Luke Harper & Erick Rowan] & Randy Orton by Pinfall The Viper Randy Orton had entered into a feud with the Man Gravity Forgot in Adrian Neville, largely stemming from a huge upset win that Neville had gained over Orton on an episode of Smackdown. Neville sought help from American Alpha while Orton teamed with the former Wyatt Family (now simply known as The Family) of Luke Harper and Erick Rowan in a six man tag match. Despite being outsized by Harper and Rowan, Gable, Jordan and Neville were able to outmuscle their opponents, hitting Rowan first with the Grand Amplitude and then Neville getting the pinfall with a Red Arrow. After the match, Orton snuck in and attempted to shake Neville's hand as a sign of respect, but suckered him into an RKO to continue their feud.
*Becky Lynch d. Carmella by Submission to Retain the Women's World Title Women's World Champion Becky Lynch had entered into a feud with Carmella over who the better submission specialist was, with Carmella locking Lynch in her own Code of Silence submission and injuring the champion's neck in the process. In this title defense, Carmella attempted to continue the punishment on Lynch's neck, but eventually Lynch was able to fight back and lock in her own Disarm-Her to pick up the tap out victory.
*AJ Styles d. John Cena by Disqualification to Retain the WWE Championship AJ Styles and John Cena had continued their long running feud, this time with the WWE Championship hanging in the balance as Cena attempted to become a 10 time WWE Champion. Like their Summerslam match, the two men were evenly matched and achieved several near falls. Unlike their Summerslam match, however, this one was interrupted by the arrival of Dean Ambrose, who was looking for revenge against Styles after AJ had hired The Ascension to try and end his career (and had cheated him out of the WWE title the previous month). This led to Ambrose attacking Styles just as Cena seemed close to finishing him off, giving the Phenomenal One the win by disqualification.
*Dolph Ziggler d. The Miz w/Maryse in a 2 Out of 3 Falls Match to Win the Intercontinental Title After The Miz got himself intentionally disqualified to save his title at Backlash, Smackdown General Manager granted a rematch to Dolph Ziggler for the title, which the Show Off lost due to outside interference. The Miz refused to grant Ziggler a final shot at the belt, and it was only after Dolph agreed to put his career on the line that the match was made, with Shane McMahon additionally making it a No Disqualification 2 out of 3 Falls match as well. Dolph actually won the first fall, taking advantage of a missed Moonsault attempt from The Miz and rolling him up to gain the early advantage. However The Miz took advantage of a belt shot from Maryse to pick up the second fall, evening the match. Miz then worked over Ziggler's knee, eventually locking in a Figure-4 Leglock in an attempt to gain a submission victory. Despite the pain, Ziggler was able to reverse the hold and get Miz to break it, before rallying a comeback and hitting a Zig Zag after a Superkick to score the third and final fall, ending his losing streak, preserving his career and winning the IC Title to close the show.

NXT Takeover: Zenith October 12, 2016 Full Sail University Winter Park, FL
*The Authors of Pain [Akam & Rezar] w/Paul Ellering d. DIY [Johnny Gargano & Tomasso Ciampa] by Pinfall for the NXT Tag Team Titles The team of DIY had somewhat divided attentions entering this Takeover special, as Johnny Gargano was not only defending the NXT Tag Titles with his partner, but also engaged in the finals of the Warrior Cup (as well as challenging Austin Aries for the North American Title in that same match). Against the undefeated Authors of Pain, DIY found themselves overwhelmed by Akam and Rezar's power, with Ciampa in particular taking a beating. Ciampa seemingly hurt his knee on the outside, leaving Gargano alone to face the challengers. Johnny Wrestling eventually was hit with the Final Chapter as AOP won the tag team titles and left Gargano's ability to compete later on in doubt.
*Sanity [Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain] w/Nikki Cross d. The Bollywood Boys [Samir & Sunil Singh] & Mustafa Ali by Pinfall The unique trio of Sanity had made their debut in recent weeks (along with Nikki Cross at their side) and faced the trio of the Singh brothers and Mustafa Ali in six man tag team action. Killian Dain ran roughshod through the trio of faces, as Young and Wolfe hit a move called the Stairway to Chaos to pick up the relatively easy victory.
*Asuka w/Ember Moon d. The Iiconics [Peyton Royce & Billie Kay] in a Handicap Match to Retain the NXT Women's Championship Asuka had continued her feud with the Aussie duo The Iiconics, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, with the two double teaming the undefeated Empress of Tomorrow. Asuka found an ally in Ember Moon, who stood in her corner as Asuka took on both of the Iiconics in a Handicap Match, even putting her Women's Title on the line in the process. Though it challenged Asuka moreso than before, she still managed to pick up the win by making Royce submit to the Rising Sun (while Moon kept Kay from interfering.)
*Bobby Roode & Andrade El Idolo d. The Britstonians [Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan] by Pinfall to Win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic The unlikely duo of rivals in Bobby Roode and Andrade El Idolo had made their way to the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, taking on the duo of Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. Despite being the more inexperienced team, Roode and El Idolo managed to pull off the upset, with Roode hitting Lorcan with a Glorious DDT to pick up the win.
*Johnny Gargano d. Austin Aries by Pinfall to Win the Warrior Cup AND the NXT North American Title After failing to retain the Tag Titles in the opening match, Johnny Gargano found himself at a distinct disadvantage in the finals of the 2016 Warrior Cup, as he took on (and challenged) North American Champion Austin Aries. The champion targeted Gargano's already injured neck and attempted to lock in the Last Chancery, but Gargano fought out of the attempted hold and eventually hit the One Final Beat out of nowhere for a near fall. Gargano then followed up with the One Final Beat a 2nd time to pick up the win and become the new North American Champion.
*Shinsuke Nakamura d. Samoa Joe in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match to Retain the NXT Championship NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura saw his "final" collision with his longtime rival Samoa Joe for the NXT Championship, this time in a 2 out of 3 Falls match. Joe actually managed to get a fall on the Japanese star, hitting a Muscle Buster to take the first fall. Nakamura was eventually locked in the Coquina Clutch, but was able to flip over into a pinning combination to get the second fall. After a lengthy back and forth, Nakamura finished off Joe with the Bomba Ye to score the third and decisive fall.

WWE Hell in a Cell October 30, 2016 TD Garden Boston, MA
*Sasha Banks d. Charlotte Flair by Pinfall in a Hell in a Cell Match to Win the WWE Women's Championship The ongoing feud between Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair for the WWE Women's Championship had achieved yet another first, as the two women competed in the first ever Women's Hell in a Cell match. Banks was coming into the match with a damaged leg, due to Flair's assault on the limb at the contract signing for the match in which she executed a Figure-4 Leglock around the ringpost. Flair continued the attack on the leg, attempting to set up the Figure-8 Leglock. However, Banks fought through the pain and eventually hit a massive Superplex through a table in the middle of the ring, KO'ing the champion and pinning her to pick up the win and regain the Women's Title.
*Braun Strowman d. The Big Show by Pinfall The Monster Amongst Men had reestablished himself as a dominant Giant in WWE through a series of squash matches throughout the summer, as well as helping Triple H against the Wyatts earlier in the year. However here he faced his equal in size in The Big Show, as the 500 pound behemoths fought in a match of Giant vs Giant. To the amazement of many Strowman was able to slam The Big Show and pick up a win via a huge elbow off the second rope afterwards.
*Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho d. The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston] w/Xavier Woods by Pinfall The Best friends duo of Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho had continued their feud with The New Day, with Jericho fanning the flames of hatred between the two teams by destroying the "beloved" trombone of Xavier Woods. Big E and Kofi Kingston attempted to gain revenge for Woods in this tag match, and seemingly had the match won after hitting Owens (who would be receiving a World Title Shot the following night on Raw) with a Midnight Hour. Jericho was able to break up the pinfall though, bringing in Woods and creating a pull apart brawl between the two. This allowed Owens to get up and kick Kingston low before hitting him with a Stunner to pick up the eventual win.
*Sheamus & Antonio Cesaro Wrestled to a 30 Minute Time Limit Draw The two longtime European rivals Sheamus and Antonio Cesaro had renewed their rivalry since the brand split in the summer, culminating in this match between the two. With a strict 30 minute time limit, the two men seemed determined to outdo the other, but neither could gain a full on advantage before the time limit expired, resulting in a draw. After the match, the two exhausted grapplers wound up embracing and shaking each other's hand as a sign of respect.
*Sami Zayn d. Rusev w/Lana by Pinfall to Win the United States Title Sami Zayn had entered a feud with the United States Champion Rusev when he ran afoul of Rusev's manager Lana, after Zayn turned down a seeming advance from the Ravishing Russian and Lana feigned that she had been "violated" by the former Intercontinental Champion. The larger Rusev tossed Zayn around the ring with ease, but was seemingly unable to put the underdog down. In the end this ease would lead to overconfidence on the part of Rusev, as Zayn made a comeback. Zayn eventually caught Rusev with two consecutive Helluva Kick's to cause him to collapse to the mat as Zayn pinned the Bulgarian Brute to win the US Title.
*Triple H d. Bray Wyatt in a Last Man Standing Match to Retain His Position in WWE Bray Wyatt had finally made clear that he wanted to "cleanse" the WWE of Triple H and the "Games He Plays With People's Lives", claiming that he was the only Gamesmaster in WWE. Thus a Last Man Standing Match was made between the two men, as Wyatt put his spot on the Raw roster on the line against Triple H's position within the company. The two men battered each other endlessly, resulting in both men bleeding profusely across their faces. In the end though, Triple H hit a Pedigree on the concrete floor and then threw Wyatt from the top of the elevated stage through a table with electrical equipment, causing several showers of sparks to fly up and KO'ing the Eater of Worlds for the ten count. However, shortly after the ten count was administered, the Wyatt video stinger played and the lights went out. When they came back up, Bray was seemingly gone from the entryway.
*Seth Rollins d. Finn Balor & Roman Reigns in a Triple Threat Hell in a Cell Match Match to Win the World Heavyweight Championship Both Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns challenged Finn Balor for the World Heavyweight Championship, after a #1 contenders match between the two of them ended in a double countout following an attack from Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens, leading Stephanie McMahon to make the match inside Hell in a Cell a Triple Threat match. The two former Shield mates tried to take out Balor first, forming an uneasy alliance in the early going, before facing each other. The match saw Reigns spear Rollins out of the cage and to the outside, with all three men continuing to brawl up the side of the Cell before falling off halfway down to an announce table below. After all three men slowly picked themselves up, with Reigns taking Balor into the ring, The Big Dog tried to Spear the World Champion to pick up the win. However Balor dodged out of the way and hit a Sling Blade followed by a Coup de Grace, seemingly winning the match, only for Rollins to save it right at the end. Rollins then hit a Pedigree on the champion to pick up the win and take the World Heavyweight Title to close the show.

NXT Takeover: Toronto November 19, 2016 Toronto, Ontario, Canada Air Canada Centre
*The Mighty Aussies [Nick Miller & Shane Thorne] d. Sanity [Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe] w/Nikki Cross & Killian Dane, The Britstonians [Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan] & Heavy Machinery [Otis & Tucker] in a Fatal Fourway Tag Match A Fatal Fourway match for the #1 contendership to the NXT Tag Team Titles kicked things off at Takeover Toronto, with the faction of Sanity dominating early on with their heavy, Killian Dane, running roughshod over the other teams. This stopped after Dane and Nikki Cross were finally ejected by security, allowing the match to continue. Eventually The Mighty Aussieshit Tucker with the Thunder Down Under to pick up the win and earn a future shot at the tag team titles.
*Austin Aries d. Johnny Gargano w/Tomasso Ciampa by Referee Stoppage to Win the NXT North American Title Johnny Gargano was set to defend the North American Title against former champion Austin Aries in a rematch from the finals of the Warrior Cup the previous month. Gargano was entering the match at a disadvantage with injured ribs due to an attack by Aries on an episode of NXT television leading into this match. While Gargano fought valiantly (encouraged by his tag team partner, Tomasso Ciampa, at his side), the rib injury proved the be fatal, especially after Aries locked in the Last Chancery on Johnny Wrestling. Gargano refused to submit, nearly passing out from the pain, when Ciampa threw in the towel for his partner, seeming to signal his surrender, causing the referee to stop the match and awarding the title back to Aries.
*Ho Ho Lun w/Tian Bing d. Cedric Alexander by Pinfall Ho Ho Lun, along with his partner Tian Bing, were the first two Chinese superstars in WWE or NXT history, with the former making his debut here against Cedric Alexander. The Chinese star was impressive in this maiden outing, hitting a top rope hurancanrana to pick up the victory.
*The Authors of Pain [Akam & Rezar] w/Paul Ellering d. Bobby Roode & Andrade El Idolo by Pinfall to Retain the NXT Tag Team Titles As a result of winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic, the unlikely pairing of Bobby Roode and Andrade El Idolo were granted a shot at the Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Titles. At first the pairing was seemingly up to the task, but quickly the two rivals had moments of miscommunication, causing Andrade to abandon Roode. Akam and Rezar then hit the Final Chapter to quickly dispose of the Glorious One and retain their belts.
*Asuka d. Ember Moon by Pinfall to Retain the NXT Women's Championship Two undefeated stars collided in Asuka and Ember Moon for the Women's Championship. For the first time since her arrival, it appeared that Asuka was faced with a true challenge for her title, as Ember Moon was able to match her move for move and nearly pulled off the upset. A ref bump near the end of the match caused some controversy, as Ember Moon hit the Eclipse and got a visible pinfall on the champion. As Moon checked on the referee, Asuka came too, and when the challenger went back to the champion, Asuka sprayed blue mist into her eyes and KO'ed her with a buzzsaw kick. Asuka then got the pinfall to retain her title in controversial fashion.
*Shinsuke Nakamura d. Tomasso Ciampa by Pinfall to Retain the NXT Championship With Johnny Gargano previously scheduled to defend the North American Title, his tag team partner Tomasso Ciampa was set to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the NXT Championship. Ciampa was surprisingly a match for Nakamura (who was still dealing with the after effects of a concussion dealt to him by his long time rival Samoa Joe). The King of Strong Style was able to fight out of an attempted Fairy Tale Ending, though, and eventually hit a Boma Ye for the victory and title retention to end the Takeover special.

*Dolph Ziggler d. Sami Zayn in a Champion vs. Champion Match Several matches were set up as "brand warfare" for the Survivor Series, including Survivor Series matches involving the women of each brand, tag teams from each brand, and a match featuring superstars from each brand. There was also champion vs champion matches, including this IC vs US Champion match. Dolph Ziggler continued his winning ways after a highly competitive bout with Sami Zayn, dodging an attempted Helluva Kick and hitting a Superkick of his own before finishing off the United States Champion with a Zig Zag to pick up the win.
*Raw Tag Teams [The New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston), The Shining Stars (Primo & Epico), The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro) & Enzo Amore & Big Cass] d. Smackdown Tag Teams [The Club [Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows], The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso), The Hype Bros [Mojo Rawley & Zack Ryder] & The Ascension [Konnor & Viktor]] in a Survivor Series Match In this match, when one member of a team was pinned, than the whole team was eliminated: - The Club d. *The Undertaker d. Dean Ambrose by Pinfall Dean Ambrose (along with The Miz, though the latter was removed for other reasons) was originally slated to be a part of Team Smackdown, though Shane McMahon removed the Lunatic Fringe due to his inability to coexist with WWE Champion AJ Styles. This led Ambrose to challenge The Undertaker out of frustration, wanting to make his mark and earn another shot at the WWE Title. The Phenom, still operating with his career on the line, took on the 2nd member of the Shield he had faced in as many months, and had as much difficulty with him as he had with Rollins. Ambrose hit a King Kong Lariat on a rebound from an attempted chokeslam, and then attempted to hit a Paradigm Shift, only for Undertaker to fight out. The Phenom eventually scooped up Ambrose and hit him with a Tombstone to pick up the hard earned victory.
*The Revival [Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder] d. American Alpha [Chad Gable & Jason Jordan] in a Champion vs. Champion Match Two old NXT rivals collided in this match, as World Tag Team Champions The Revival and WWE Tag Team Champions American Alpha renewed their rivalry for bragging rights. WWE fans unfamiliar with their NXT work were treated to a highly competitive match that saw both teams come close to winning, but eventually saw the Revival hit Gable with the Shatter Machine to pick up the win and tie the score for Raw going into the main Survivor Series match.
*Team Raw [Triple H, Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, Finn Balor & Rusev] w/Lana & Stephanie McMahon d. Team Smackdown [Shane McMahon, AJ Styles, John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Baron Corbin & Apollo Crews] in a Survivor Series Match Both Team Raw and Team Smackdown saw their lineups change drastically over the course of the build to Survivor Series. On Raw, Seth Rollins was immediately removed by Triple H, on account of the sudden feud he had with the former World Champion (as Triple H had cost Rollins the title the night after Hell in a Cell on account of Rollins refusing to help him in his feud with Bray Wyatt) and put the Architecht on the shelf temporarily. On Smackdown, Dean Ambrose was removed early on and replaced with Shane McMahon himself, while at the 11th hour Daniel Bryan removed The Miz and replaced him with a new signee to Smackdown, namely the afore mentioned Bray Wyatt himself. - Apollo Crews d. Rusev by Pinfall - Braun Strowman d. Baron Corbin by Pinfall - Braun Strwoman d. Apollo Crews by Pinfall - Bray Wyatt d. Braun Strowman by Pinfall - Finn Balor d. John Cena by Pinfall - Bray Wyatt d. Shane McMahon by Pinfall - Chris Jericho d. Bray Wyatt by Pinfall Sole Survivors: Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho
*Goldberg d. Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman by Pinfall As part of the marketing for the video game WWE 2K17, former World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg had been brought in. However, this appearance had triggered a war on Twitter with the advocate for Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman (as Heyman reminded everyone, Goldberg was responsible for Heyman being fired as Smackdown General Manager over a decade prior). This led to Heyman challenging the retired Goldberg to one last match against the Beast Incarnate. Goldberg promised that not only was Lesnar next, but that he might very well be last. The two titans met in a highly publicized big fight, but the match turned out unlike anything anyone expected, as Goldberg steamrolled Lesnar, hitting him with two Spears and then followed up with a Jackhammer to squash the Beast to the stunned amazement of the crowd. Goldberg then celebrated to close the show.
