I'm a bit late to the party but they say a broken clock is right twice a day so I guess if I keep playing, I'll get it right eventually. I wanted to read everything again one more time but it looks like everything will come up everytime I try so, if I don't finish at the bottom of the pile, know that it will only be nothing but dumb luck.

Backlash 2008April 27, 2008 1st Mariner Arena Baltimore, MD
Official Theme of Backlash 2008: "Down and Out" by Tantric BACKLASH OPENING (86%)
The WWE opening signature plays followed by a video package highlighting the various matches tonight. Set to Tantric's “Down and Out,” Backlash will conclude some personal feuds before the WWE is shaken up with the Draft. A shot goes into the 1st Mariner Arena as a pyro show goes off for the loud fans in attendance. Good ol' Jim Ross welcomes everyone in and Jerry 'The King' Lawler says he can feel the electricity.
MATCH 1: SHAWN MICHAELS vs. CODY RHODES (86%, 2*) “Sexy Boy” then hits as the opening contest will be 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels vs. Legacy's Cody Rhodes. Rhodes makes his entrance and the bell rings to start the match. Both men engaged in a chain-wrestling sequence to start the match before HBK almost hit a flash 'Sweet Chin Music.' The attempt caused Rhodes to scurry back and fall on his rear end before exiting the ring. HBK laughed and motioned that he was this close to ending it as Rhodes took his time getting back in the ring.
The two locked up and HBK drove Rhodes back into the corner but when Referee Jack Doan called for a break, Cody took advantage and got in a cheap shot to gain control of the match. Rhodes would hit a back suplex and follow it by stomping away on Michaels. Cody then rebounded off the ropes and hit a jumping knee drop to Shawn's face before wasting no time and locking in a sleeper hold.
After a couple of minutes, HBK fed off the crowd and fought to his feet. After a couple of elbows to Cody's midsection, HBK broke free. HBK went off the ropes, ducked under a Cody clothesline, and then came back off the ropes with a flying forearm. HBK then kipped-up and had the crowd roaring. HBK started to “tune the band” for 'Sweet Chin Music' but Rhodes escaped to the floor once again.
This time HBK didn't give Cody time to recover and went out after him. Michaels hit a big knife-edge chop that sent Rhodes stumbling to the ring steps. When Michaels tried to roll Rhodes back in the ring, Rhodes elbowed HBK in the gut and grabbed his head to slam it off the steel steps. Referee Doan admonished Cody as he was the one to roll HBK back into the ring.
Cody would nail Michaels with a DDT once back in the ring. Rhodes then went to the middle rope and looked to hit some sort of diving move but HBK put his foot up and Rhodes took a shot to the head. Both men got to their feet and Michaels hit an inverted atomic drop on Rhodes before chopping him again, sending Cody down to the mat. HBK then hit his signature diving elbow drop and got into the corner to “tune the band” again.
This time, HBK would deliver 'Sweet Chin Music' to Rhodes and make the cover to pick up the win in the opening contest of Backlash. HBK celebrated the win while Rhodes held his jaw as he grumbled walking back up the ramp. JR gave Rhodes credit for going at it alone but said the future Hall-of-Famer was too much on this night.
WINNER: SHAWN MICHAELS VIA PINFALL IN 11:37
EDGE READY TO GO (89%) JR and King send it backstage to Smackdown! correspondent Josh Mathews. Mathews welcomes in his guests, The Rated-R Entourage. Mathews mentions that the trio can capture a ton of gold tonight and asks Edge if he is confident. Edge, sensing some doubt from Mathews, tells him that the Entourage is going to take care of business tonight. Edge says in just moments, Hawkins & Ryder are going to go out there and regain their tag team titles and that later tonight, he's going to end Chris Jericho's reign. Edge continues by stating his annoyance with Y2J since he's come back and Edge says quite frankly he's sick of him and will put an end to him tonight.
MATCH 2: THE HART DYNASTY [DH SMITH & TJ WILSON] © w/NATALYA NEIDHART vs. THE RATED-R ENTOURAGE [CURT HAWKINS & ZACK RYDER] – WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (60%, 1*) The WWE Tag Team Champions, DH Smith and TJ Wilson, make their way out with Natalya Neidhart. The Hart Dynasty get focused in the ring as Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder enter. Referee Jimmy Korderas lifted the tag titles up as the match got underway.
Wilson and Hawkins started off the contest and after a quick flurry by TJ, Hawkins got the upper-hand after countering a rebounding Wilson with a scoop powerslam. Hawkins & Ryder controlled the next couple of minutes, keeping Wilson away from his corner until TJ hit an enziguri on Ryder. Wilson made the hot tag to his partner and Davey Jr. came in and wrecked house.
Smith then lifted Ryder up and hit a stalling vertical suplex. Smith had Ryder up for about 20 seconds and pumped up the crowd as he displayed his impressive strength. Smith then whipped Ryder into the corner before hitting a running splash. Smith tagged Wilson in and TJ hit a diving elbow drop. Hawkins broke up the ensuing cover and Smith was back in to fight Hawkins.
As Jimmy Korderas tried to restore order, Ryder low-blowed Wilson behind his back. Ryder hit an elevated lifting reverse DDT but Wilson just kicked out at 2.9, frustrating Ryder. Ryder tagged Hawkins back in and the two continued to isolate Wilson. DH Smith was stomping on the mat, while the crowd was cheering for TJ Wilson to fight out of the situation.
Hawkins was holding Wilson in position for Ryder to come off the top-rope to hit some sort of double-team move but TJ shoved Hawkins into his partner, causing Ryder to crash to the outside. TJ tagged in DH and Davey's son powered Hawkins up for a running powerslam. Before making the cover, Wilson made sure Ryder wouldn't break up the count and hit a vaulting body press to him on the outside. DH Smith made the cover and The Hart Dynasty successfully defended their titles.
WINNER: THE HART DYNASTY VIA PINFALL IN 10:13
MCINTYRE'S TOUGHEST TEST (84%) The camera cut backstage to RAW backstage correspondent, Todd Grisham. Grisham welcomed in Intercontinental Champion, Drew McIntyre and William Regal. Grisham asked McIntyre what his plan is since he loses his title if he gets counted out or disqualified. Drew gets upset with the question and yells at Grisham, prompting Regal to try and calm him down. McIntyre mentions that no one thinks he can do it and then turns to Regal and says that even he doubts him. Regal continues to try and deescalate but McIntyre tells Regal that he doesn't need him to come out with him tonight.
MATCH 3: DREW MCINTYRE © vs. BOBBY LASHLEY – INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP (71%, 2.5*) Bobby Lashley makes his entrance followed by Drew McIntyre. JR and King touch on the fact that Drew is out here alone and they both also wonder if McIntyre can get the job done. Referee Chad Patton grabs the Intercontinental Champion and lifts it up before ringing the bell to start the second of many title bouts.
After initially hesitating, McIntyre lunged at Lashley but Bobby got Drew off his feet and drove him into the corner. Lashley then hit some shoulder thrusts before whipping McIntyre hard into the opposite corner. Drew whiplashed and fell to the mat. Lashley had his way with McIntyre for a good bit, hitting an overhead belly-to-belly suplex as well as a Military Press drop.
McIntyre was woozy and went to the outside to recover. Drew went to grab his title and appeared to be walking out before he looked at Lashley in the ring, who was chirping at him. McIntyre then snapped out of it and realized he could not get counted out and ran back in the ring before Referee Patton got to 10.
Lashley dominated the Intercontinental Champion some more, hitting a fallaway slam and following it up with a dragon sleeper. Drew finally got some offense in after raking Lashley's eye. Referee Patton issued a warning but McIntyre laughed it off and began to inflict some damage on Lashley. McIntyre showed his power by hitting a Fireman's carry gutbuster, getting a near fall.
The ending came after McIntyre dropped Lashley with a reverse STO. McIntyre got set into the corner for his 'Claymore' kick. JR disliked Drew's approach, saying that he should stay on Lashley instead of hyping himself up in the corner. Lashley rose to his feet and JR's words become prophetic as Lashley would intercept the 'Claymore' with a massive Spear! Lashley would make the cover and get the 3-count to become new champ.
WINNER: BOBBY LASHLEY VIA PINFALL IN 9:26 ***NEW INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION***
THE BIG CLASH AT BACKLASH (80%) The attention then went to the Smackdown! announce table as Michael Cole and Ernest 'The Cat' Miller prepared everyone for the next match dubbed: 'The Big Clash at Backlash,” between The Big Show and Mark Henry. A video package then played before both men made their entrance for this United States Championship contest.
MATCH 4: BIG SHOW © vs. MARK HENRY – UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP (73%, 1.5*) When the bell rang for this match, the two big men went right at it. Both men traded sending each other back into the corner. Big Show adhered to the break from Referee Charles Robinson but Henry did not and hit a massive chop to the chest of Show. 'The World's Strongest Man' tried another chop but Show blocked it and switched position. Show then hit Henry with the a thunderous chop, causing Henry to clench as he moved out of the corner.
Show went off the ropes to hit a shoulder block but Henry remained standing. Show then challenged Henry to do the same and Henry rebounded off the ropes to no avail as Show remained standing. The two started trading punches before Show went off the ropes again, only to be knocked down by a full body check by Henry. Henry would then drop a leg on Show's head and neck area, scoring a near fall.
Henry applied a chinlock and after a minute or so, Show got to his feet and caused a break by grabbing the ropes. Henry kept the hold on until Charles Robinson counted to 4. Robinson admonished Henry, who broke so he avoided a disqualification. Henry then charged at Show but the U.S. Champ evaded the attack and then clotheslined Henry over the top rope.
Show went to retrieve Henry but 'The World's Strongest Man' drove Big Show back-first into the apron. Henry repeated this a couple times before rolling Show back into the ring. Henry then looked for a 'World's Strongest Splash' but Show moved out of the way and both men were down. Charles Robinson got to 7 on his count when both men got to their feet and began another round of trading blows.
Just when it looked like Show was winning the exchange, Henry was able to lock in a bearhug. Show used to have over 100 lbs. on Henry but now with them being pretty much even, Show was feeling the effects of the tight grasp of Henry. Show was about to fade but then started headbutting Henry. Show did it about 5 times before Henry relinquished the hold. Big Show then speared Henry and both men were down!
Show beat Henry to his feet and when 'The World's Strongest Man' turned around, Show grabbed him around the throat and delivered a massive chokeslam. Show made the cover and won the match to retain his United States Championship.
WINNER: BIG SHOW VIA PINFALL IN 7:55
DREAMER'S EMOTIONAL INTERVIEW (83%) The camera then went back to ECW correspondent, Rosa Mendez. Rosa was standing with ECW Champion, Tommy Dreamer. She asked Tommy his thoughts on the upcoming match vs. Chavo Guerrero. Dreamer looks at the ECW Championship and passionately tells Mendez that it's all about this. Dreamer said he scratched and clawed to become ECW Champion and with the brand shutting its doors soon, he's sure as hell not going to stand for the last memory being Chavo holding the belt. Dreamer says the belt represents everyone who helped put the small company from Philly on the map. Guys that are not in the WWE, and some guys no longer with us. Dreamer gets emotional in saying that Chavo will have to kill him and pry it from his cold, dead hands if he wants it back.
As Chavo Guerrero and Tommy Dreamer made their entrances, Joey Styles and Tazz offered their input on Dreamer's comments. Both got pretty emotional as they also plugged next month's One Night Stand, which is the final night for the ECW brand.
MATCH 5: TOMMY DREAMER © vs. CHAVO GUERRERO – EXTREME RULES MATCH FOR THE ECW CHAMPIONSHIP (82%, 3*) Senior Referee, Scott Armstrong allowed Dreamer to look at the ECW Championship one final time before displaying it in the air and kicking off the match.
For the first couple of minutes, both men kept the action in the ring, and without weapons until Dreamer nailed Chavo with a right hand that sent him through the middle rope. Dreamer went out after Chavo and lifted the ring apron to pull out a trash can filled with kendo sticks. Dreamer grabbed one and smacked Chavo across the back. Dreamer chased Chavo almost a whole orbit around the ring, delivering swings as Chavo tried to get away.
Dreamer then had Chavo lined up near a ring post but Chavo ducked the swing and Dreamer's hands rang. This allowed Chavo to assume control and Guerrero pushed Dreamer into the post. Chavo then grabbed a steel chair from the timekeeper's area and swung away on Tommy. Chavo also drove the top of the chair into Dreamer's ribs a couple of times.
The two started fighting around the ring and ended up near the entrance ramp. Dreamer had rolled down a shopping cart filled with weapons during his entrance and Chavo decided to run him over with the cart. Chavo then grabbed a giant stop sign and smacked it over Dreamer's head. Chavo pulled out a table and set it up on the outside but when he tried to suplex Dreamer from the apron, Dreamer blocked it and hit a suplex of his own on the edge of the apron.
Both men were in agony, holding their backs after that one. Chavo remained on the apron and rolled into the ring as Dreamer was on all fours outside. Chavo tried to grab Dreamer and pull him up but Dreamer found a fire extinguisher and sprayed it in Guerrero's face. Dreamer then hit his signature DDT but got a near-fall.
The ending came when Dreamer grabbed a chair and propped it up in the corner. Dreamer tried whipping Chavo into it but Chavo reversed and sent Tommy head-first into the chair. Dreamer's head ended up tangled in the chair before Chavo removed it. Chavo then had bad intentions as he placed the chair on Dreamer's midsection. Chavo slowly ascended to the top rope and was looking for a frog splash onto the chair on Dreamer.
When Chavo got to the top, he decided to play to the crowd and did his late Uncle Eddie's shoulder shimmy. This gave Dreamer the time he needed and he sprung to his feet and threw the chair right at Chavo's head. The impact knocked Chavo off the top rope and through the table he set up on the outside.
After a bunch of “Holy $#!*” chants, Dreamer rolled Chavo back into the ring and hit a 'Spicoli Driver' on the steel chair. Dreamer hooked the leg and got the 3-count to win the tough tussle and retain the ECW Title.
WINNER: TOMMY DREAMER VIA PINFALL IN 11:07
ORTON NOT WORRIED (84%) After Tommy Dreamer's celebration, Todd Grisham was shown backstage and welcomed Legacy in. Grisham said it is a big night for Legacy but it hasn't started off well so far with Cody Rhodes losing to Shawn Michaels. This gets Rhodes to walk up but Randy Orton puts his arm out to block him and calm him down. Orton tells Grisham that HBK may have won the small battle but his boys Ted DiBiase Jr. and Joe Hennig are about to take care of business against those punks, Cryme Tyme. Orton then says he's not worried because tonight he's going to show everyone that his legacy will be going down as the greatest WWE Champion in this business.
MATCH 6: LEGACY [TED DIBIASE JR. & JOE HENNIG] vs. CRYME TYME [SHAD & JTG] (63%, 0.5*) Cryme Tyme took on Legacy next and DiBiase Jr. and Hennig went at it alone with no help from Orton or Rhodes. JTG started off with a flurry, getting the better of Hennig, who quickly aborted and tagged in his partner. JTG would welcome DiBiase to the match with a jumping leg lariat before tagging in the big man, Shad.
Shad then controlled the match for a little, throwing his weight around by chucking DiBiase into the corner and hitting him with a nice uppercut. Shad sent Ted off the ropes and connected with a big boot, getting a near-fall as Hennig broke up the count. JTG and DiBiase would get tagged in shortly after and that is when Legacy assumed control of the match for the first time.
DiBiase was on the apron and JTG went for a suplex back into the ring when Ted hung him up on the top rope. DiBiase then hit a backbreaker before dropping a couple of fists in the style of his father, 'The Million Dollar Man.' DiBiase and Hennig then took turns wearing down JTG, keeping him away from his partner, who was pacing back-and-forth hoping for a tag.
Shad would get that tag after JTG landed behind Hennig as he attempted a suplex and knocked him down with a flying forearm. Shad came in and took both Hennig and DiBiase down, striking the latter off the apron. Shad lifted Hennig and dropped him over the top turnbuckle, hitting 'Snake Eyes,' and followed with a running shoulder block that turned Mr. Perfect's son inside out.
It appeared Cryme Tyme was about to put away Legacy and Shad tagged JTG in but all of a sudden Cody Rhodes made his way down to the ring. JR said he knew it was too good to be true in regards to Legacy not getting involved. Shad yelled at Rhodes and Referee Jack Doan was trying to handle the situation. With the attention away from JTG, DiBiase Jr. low-blowed JTG before hitting a Cobra Clutch slam, that was dubbed 'Dream Street.'
DiBiase went to the outside and Shad turned his attention to him but when he charged at him, DiBiase side-stepped and Shad bounced off the steel ring post. Hennig was back up in the ring and would hit a 'Perfect-Plex' on JTG to get the win for Legacy.
WINNERS: LEGACY VIA PINFALL IN 10:39
PROVING A POINT (86%) After an advertisement for next month's One Night Stand PPV, Josh Mathews is shown in the backstage interview area. Mathews welcomes MVP in and asks about his match with Rey Mysterio, which is next. MVP, flanked by Kristal says that he's going to prove a point to everyone and Mysterio tonight when he beats him in the ring. MVP is so confident that he tells Kristal to stay in the back, surprising her. MVP grabs his Money In The Bank briefcase and starts to head out.
MATCH 7: REY MYSTERIO vs. MVP (83%, 2*) MVP makes his entrance before Rey Mysterio ignites the crowd as P.O.D's “Booyaka 619” blasts through the arena. From the very beginning of the match, Mysterio was a step ahead of MVP, frustrating him with his fast-paced offense. Early on, Mysterio would get MVP in '619' position but MVP retreated to the outside.
Rey then grabbed the ropes and hit a double leg kick through the ropes to knock MVP down. Mysterio went off the ropes and hit his signature baseball slide splash onto MVP outside of the ring. After throwing MVP back in the ring, Mysterio tried a springboard move but MVP moved out of the way and then kicked Rey in the knee, in a bit of a dirty hit to the often problematic area for Mysterio.
MVP assumed control of the match after that, spiking Rey with a DDT before hitting his 'Ballin' Elbow.' MVP then kept Mysterio neutralized, applying a three-quarter facelock before hitting Rey in the head with some nasty side knee lifts. MVP then hit a German Suplex on Mysterio before getting a two-count.
Frustrated, MVP went to the top rope to hit a jumping double axe handle but Mysterio caught him in mid-air with a dropkick. The crowd went nuts for that and Mysterio followed it up by running at MVP and pulling off a wheelbarrow bulldog.
MVP would go to the outside and Mysterio would hit a slingshot hurricanrana to the outside, which got the crowd fired up some more. MVP ended up near the timekeeper's area while Referee Nick Patrick told Mysterio to bring the action back in the ring. Mysterio was going to hit another move to the outside, probably a suicide dive, but MVP collapsed to the ground, near the apron.
Mysterio poked his head through the middle rope to try and grab MVP and he was blasted in the head. At first, it didn't seem like anything but MVP covertly used his Money In The Bank briefcase to smash Rey in the head. Nick Patrick was none the wiser as MVP got back in the ring and awaited Mysterio to try and get to his feet. Mysterio was on his knees when MVP went into the corner and charged to hit a 'Drive-By' kick. MVP made the cover and picked up the upset win.
WINNER: MVP VIA PINFALL IN 12:52
CAN THE CHAMP CONTINUE HER RUN? (82%) JR and King are back on camera as they discuss the next match, the Women's Championship contest between Mickie James and Melina. A video package plays showing Mickie's triumph at WrestleMania and the feud between her and Melina over the last few weeks.
MATCH 8: MICKIE JAMES © vs. MELINA – WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP (64%, 1*) Referee Chad Patton held the Women's Title high as Mickie and Melina started the match by barking at each other in the middle of the ring. The two traded blows until Mickie hit a nice right that knocked Melina down. Melina scowled as she held her jaw and pulled herself up in the corner.
After circling each other, the ladies were gonna go for a lock up but Melina was dirty and booted Mickie in the gut. Melina then kicked Mickie in the head, bouncing her back up to a vertical basis, before knocking her down with a forearm. Melina grounded Mickie and transitioned a chinlock into a neckscissors choke. Melina would eventually roll over and pull off a bridging pin to force Melina to break to kick out at 2.
Melina sent Mickie off the ropes and ducked a rebound clothesline attempt by bending back. Melina then went for a roundhouse kick but Mickie also ducked and the Women's Champ went for a backslide to get a close near-fall. Melina got up in the corner and avoided Mickie's strike but when Melina tried to put Mickie on the top rope, Mickie kicked her and hit a hurricanrana out of the corner.
Mickie then hit a charging Melina with a flapjack before kipping up. Mickie got set for a kick but Melina dodged it and hit her spinning facebuster called the 'Extreme Makeover.' Melina made the cover but Mickie just got a shoulder up before the 3-count.
Melina was frustrated and let out her primal scream. Melina tried to hit the leg drop bulldog but Mickie countered with a double-leg takedown. Mickie then flipped over for a jackknife pin and this time it was Melina who just got the shoulder up. Both ladies got up at the same time and Melina went for a clothesline that Mickie dodged, and the champ booted Melina in the gut before hitting her 'Mickie-DT.' Mickie made the cover and retained her title in a competitive matchup.
WINNER: MICKIE JAMES VIA PINFALL IN 8:43 BATTLE FOR BIG GOLD (88%) Michael Cole and Ernest 'The Cat' Miller are shown at the commentary desk as they prepare the audience for the Smackdown! Main Event, the World Heavyweight Championship Match between Chris Jericho and Edge. A video package is then shown hyping up the match.
MATCH 9: CHRIS JERICHO © vs. EDGE – WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (92%, 3.5*) “Meatlingus” by Alter Bridge hits and Edge makes his way out to the ring with no sign of the rest of the Rated-R Entourage. “Break The Walls Down” hits and 'Y2J' Chris Jericho enters to a big roar. Referee Charles Robinson is the official for this one and showcases the World Title before signaling for the bell to start the match.
Edge and Jericho felt each other out for the first couple of minutes, trading lockups and chain wrestling. The two then exchanged chops with Y2J winning out, hitting a couple of chops to back Edge into the corner. Y2J stomped at Edge and then sent him off the ropes before hitting a rebounding Edge with a back elbow.
Jericho tried for a cover but barely got a 2-count. Y2J picked Edge up but 'The Rated-R Superstar' fought back and struck Jericho back into the corner. Edge knocked Y2J into a seated position and then began choking Jericho out with his foot. Charles Robinson forced a break but not before Edge used the 5-count to his advantage, letting go at 4.
Jericho crawled away from the corner and Edge went to the top rope to hit a missile dropkick on Y2J but got a near-fall on the pin attempt. Edge then started targeting Jericho's leg, culminating in dropping an elbow on the inside of the leg and cranking it for a bit. Edge softened Jericho up and attempted an 'Edgecator' but Y2J flipped his hips and the Sharpshooter attempt went awry as Edge hit the mat on his back.
Both men got up at the same time and Jericho caught Edge with a double-leg takedown. Jericho went for the 'Walls of Jericho' but Edge quickly slithered away and ended up on the outside. Y2J went out after Edge but a resourceful Edge sent Jericho back-first into the ringside barrier. Edge then picked Jericho up and dropped him over the barricade. Jericho held his sternum as Edge rolled him back into the ring.
Edge got in the corner and set up for a Spear but when he charged, Jericho countered right into a 'Codebreaker.' The crowd and Michael Cole thought that was it but Edge put his foot on the rope right before the 3-count. Y2J stayed on Edge and pulled him to the middle before hitting a 'Lionsault.' Jericho made the cover again but Edge was resilient and kicked out at 2.
Jericho showed some visible frustration and started to apply the 'Walls of Jericho' but Edge fought it and eventually punched Y2J in the head and got some separation. Edge got to his feet and nailed Jericho with a 'Downward Spiral.' Edge made the cover but also got a near-fall, and now the frustration was apparent on Edge's face. Edge then locked in the 'Edgecator,' and Jericho was in trouble.
Edge had Jericho in the sharpshooter for a couple of minutes but the World champ fought his way to the bottom rope and Edge started running his hands through his head, not knowing what he needed to do to get the win. Of course, Hawkins & Ryder then appeared on the ramp. However, before Hawkins & Ryder could even get to ringside, Charles Robinson had none of it and sent them to the back.
Edge was livid and Cole commended the referee's decision. Edge regrouped and set up for another Spear. Edge had bad intentions in his facial expression but when he charged, Y2J leapfrogged him and Edge bounced his head off the middle turnbuckle. Edge stumbled around to get taken down and Jericho locked in the 'Walls of Jericho.' After a little over a minute of fighting, Edge had nowhere to go. Jericho readjusted him to the middle of the ring and Jericho made good on his promise as Edge tapped out to give Jericho the win.
WINNER: CHRIS JERICHO VIA SUBMISSION IN 16:18 IT'S A NEW GAME (88%) After JR and King gave the crowd a preview, a video package hyping the Main Event was shown. Randy Orton feels it's his legacy to become the greatest WWE Champion of all-time, while Triple H just wants to shut Orton and Legacy up. The Main Event of Backlash is next!!!
***MAIN EVENT*** MATCH 10: RANDY ORTON © vs. TRIPLE H – WWE CHAMPIONSHIP (85%, 2.5*) “The Game” by Motorhead hits the 1st Mariner Arena and the crowd pops for Triple H's entrance. “Burn In My Light” then plays and the WWE Champion, Randy Orton struts his way out, with no Legacy in tow. Referee Mike Chioda presides over the match and lifts the WWE Championship high before ringing the bell.
The two start with a lockup and HHH ends up pushing Orton into the corner. Chioda calls for a break and Orton ducks his head outside of the ropes to get some space. Both men lock up for second time and Orton has the upper-hand, pushing Hunter into the corner. When Chioda asks for another break, Orton abides but then tries to get a cheap shot in. Triple H ducks the shot and reverses positions with Orton before chopping him in the corner.
After a couple more chops, Triple H sends Orton into the opposite corner hard, and Orton bounces off and falls to the mat, holding his back. Triple H then hit a jumping knee drop to Orton's face. Orton rolled to the ropes to pick himself up but Triple H was right there to inflict more damage. Triple H catapulted Orton, causing his head and neck to get hung up under the bottom rope. Orton rolled out of the ring and held his throat as he tried to recover.
Triple H went out after Orton and tossed him back in the ring but when Hunter tried to re-enter, Orton kicked the middle rope, causing HHH to feel it where the sun don't shine. Orton then took advantage by hitting a nasty rope-hung DDT on Triple H. Orton was now firmly in control as he methodically started picking apart Hunter with his stomps on every body part.
Orton then got HHH up and hit his signature inverted headlock backbreaker, getting the first near-fall of the contest. Orton then applied a chinlock and tried wearing Triple H down. Hunter eventually fought his way to a vertical basis and hit a back suplex to break Orton's grasp. Both men were down and Chioda started a count. At 6, both men got to their feet and Orton tried sending Hunter off the ropes. Orton made the mistake of keeping his head down and Triple H scored with his facebreaker knee smash.
Triple H then targeted Orton's legs and in a tribute to the recently retired 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair, Triple H locked in the 'Figure-Four.' Orton screamed in pain and tried to swing at Triple H's head to break the submission. Orton had his shoulders on the mat a couple of times, resulting in a count but got up before Chioda got to 3. Orton tried to push his way back to the ropes but when that didn't work, he finally was able flip on his stomach and reverse the pressure.
HHH broke the hold and when Orton got to his feet, Triple H kicked him in the gut and hooked his arms for a 'Pedigree' but Orton spun out and almost hit an 'RKO' before Triple H shoved him off. Orton then rebounded off the ropes and charged at Hunter, only to get hit with a 'Double-A Spinebuster.' Triple H laid on top for a cover but Orton kicked out at 2. Triple H got Orton to his feet and was going to whip him into the corner again but Orton blocked it and sent Triple H into the opposite corner.
Unfortunately, this is where Referee Mike Chioda was positioned and he got sandwiched in the corner by an oncoming Triple H. HHH came out of the corner and was hit with a scoop powerslam by Orton and then it was apparent that Mike Chioda was down and out. Orton then waved to the back and right on cue, Legacy made their way down. JR was infuriated and made it a point to say that he knew it was a matter of time before Legacy got involved.
Orton told Ted DiBiase Jr. and Joe Hennig to hold Triple H's arms back as Cody Rhodes was instructed to grab a steel chair. Orton started slapping Hunter in the face as Rhodes entered with a steel chair. Orton then had a change of heart and told Rhodes to do something else as he discarded the chair. Orton started raining down punches on a lifeless Triple H. Rhodes went outside and lifted the apron and searched until he pulled out a sledgehammer. JR exclaimed that Orton wants to maim Triple H with his signature weapon.
Orton had the sledgehammer in hand and was about to hit Triple H when...
“My Time Is Now” hits! It's JOHN CENA!
Orton instructs Rhodes to go out after him and Cena takes him out with a clothesline as he sprints down the ramp. Cena gets in the ring and Hennig runs right into an 'F-U.' DiBiase Jr. faces the same fate a moment later. It is now Cena staring down Orton. After Orton got over the shock of all of Legacy being taken out, he swung the sledgehammer at Cena but Cena ducked and had Orton up in 'F-U' position but Rhodes got up and pulled Orton's leg, allowing Randy to land on the apron and exit the ring unscathed.
Cena went out after both but he and Rhodes started fighting. Referee Chioda and Triple H both got back to their feet and wondered what was going on as they saw Cena and Rhodes fighting, and DiBiase Jr. and Hennig down. Orton, like the snake he is, re-entered the ring behind Triple H, and when Hunter turned around, he delivered an 'RKO.' Orton made the cover the get the win and retain the WWE Championship.
WINNER: RANDY ORTON VIA PINFALL IN 20:23 Cena fought off Orton but his disappointment was apparent as Orton's music hit and he was announced as still the champ. Rhodes got to his feet and met DiBiase Jr. and Hennig at the end of the ramp as they laughed at Cena. Orton then lifted his championship high and rubbed it in Cena's face. Replays of the Main Event were shown and the closing shot of Backlash was the duality between a frustrated Cena, and an overjoyed Legacy.
