Joaquín signing for Real is huge, as it would never happen irl (at least hasn't). I'm curious to see the CL groups for the next season.

Joaquín signing for Real is huge, as it would never happen irl (at least hasn't). I'm curious to see the CL groups for the next season. 1st qualifying round for the UEFA Cup just started. Not sure in which round Vitesse Arnhem enters. But hopefully they will make Holland proud and advance long into the cup. Champions League quals haven't started yet.

It's important for Holland that Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord and Vitesse Arnhem have a good European season (to keep the number 6 spot).

After a tough battle with Feyenoord; PSV Eindhoven managed to steal the number 2 spot behind Ajax. PSV Eindhoven have lots of top players and exciting prospects. 2002 might be the season where super talents Arjen Robben, Lindsay Wilson and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar gets their big breakthrough. PSV's squad is pretty much the backbone of Hollands national team. PSV should also try to slim their roster and get rid of some deadweight.

Feyenoord looked like they were going to finish 2nd after Ajax, but after a slump in april and may they lost their spot to PSV Eindhoven. Feyenoord have quality veterans like Pierre van Hooijdonk, Paul Bosvelt and Patrick Paauwe; and exciting prospects like Robin van Persie (loaned to Vitesse), Labinot Harbuzi and Glenn Loovens. Feyenoord have lots of deadweight and should really start cutting some players to make room for new signings.
Feyenoord's squad looks less impressive after they sold the Belgian midfield prospect Thomas Buffel (to Club Brugge) and released Brazilian winger Leonardo on free transfer (Vitesse). Leonardo will most likely get dual citizenships after this season.
Feyenoord have been pretty inactive on the market and haven't even tried to get Mario Melchiot (sold from Chelsea to Rennes); Winston Bogarde (sold from Chelsea to Ajax); Ruben Schaken (sold from AZ to Rangers); Ed de Goey (sold from Chelsea to Crewe); Fernando Ricksen (sold from Rangers to Vitesse); Henk Timmer (transfer listed by AZ); Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (active relegation release clause since Chelsea was relegated); or Sander Boschker (minimum release clause). A few of these would have improved Feyenoord's team.

Manager Gerald Vanenburg have been rebuilding Vitesse Arnhem and have also brought in former Holland international player Rob Witschge as the clubs new assistant manager.
Vitesse Arnhem will be playing the in UEFA Cup, and are most likely the biggest challenge for the Big Three (Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV) in the Eredivisie (since AZ isn't bringing in more good players). A good season might get wingback Fernando Ricksen a place in Hollands national team. Vitesse managed to loan exciting prospects in Djordje Pantic (Partizan Belgrade), Khalid Boulahrouz (RKC Waalwijk), Demy de Zeeuw (Ajax) and wonderkid Robin van Persie (Feyenoord). Vitesse have something big in the making if they can keep their Holland U21 core team Ruud Knol, Stijn Schaars, Theo Janssen, Nick Hofs and Jhon van Beukering. Vitesse did a bargain when finding Ghanian sensation Emmanuel Osei Kuffour and the unknown Croatian midfielder Danijel Sundalic. Vitesse also have interested prospects in Leonardo, Yonas Fessahaile Bihon and Romeo Castelen. A key factor for Vitesse is that the Romanian striker Radu Horia Niculescu starts delivering those important goals.

Champions League Third Qualifying Phase
Third placed Dutch team Feyenoord secured a spot in the Group phase after beating Swedish team IFK Göteborg.
Most favorites advanced, except German top team Leverkusen that lost to Sunderland; and Portuguese Vit. Guimaraes that lost against Torpedo Moscow. The biggest surprise was Atalanta that lost against Maribor; a Slovenian team that have been raided by Ajax and Monaco. Atalanta was the 3rd placed team in Italy after Milan and Juventus and have strengthen their squad with star defender Christian Chivu (Ajax) and goalkeeper Yuri Tsigalko (Dinamo Minsk).
